The SpaceThe Noble Hutch is quiet, peaceful and surrounded by nature. We are the only cottage on our side of the river for miles. There are 4 cottages across the river from us with friendly people should you want to socialize. Otherwise plan on being more relaxed than you ever have! NOTE: Unfortunately there is "NO Fishing" in the river due to depleted stocks . You may canoe south 1 mile down to the lake to fish if you like. Guest AccessThere is a main cottage that sleeps 4 comfortably and a fully equipped separate Bunkie that sleeps 3 comfortably. The Bunkie has a little kitchen should a family want a bit of privacy from the main cottage. Interaction with GuestsWe would meet the Guests at the cottage at the beginning of their visit to show them around and answer any questions. They would be responsible for cleaning the cottage and Bunkie and locking up when they leave. The NeighborhoodThe Crowe River is fairly shallow so it is surprisingly warm water. It is clear and clean without weeds in the swimming areas. We pride ourselves in respecting nature with as little damage to the environment as possible. Plastic glasses are provided so please "NO Glass " in the river. Getting AroundYou really need a car to drive to town and see the local sites. A list of local things to see is in the cottage. Other Things to NoteThere is a small booklet with "Cottage Rules" in the cottage. It explains all you need to know and gives suggestions of what to do in the area. I find though, once I am at the cottage, I don't want to go any where else.

The SpaceWhat everyone loves about this place is the land so I will describe that first. Our century old farmhouse is located on 122 private acres of the Canadian shield. We have gentle hills, fields, ponds, bogs, mixed forests and all the magnificent creatures that call it home. The house is easily accessed by a well maintained country road. We have a volley ball net, campfire pit, basketball net on a gravel driveway, play set with swings and kid size log house, small toboggan hill - all within sight of the house, so your kids are free to roam and play safely. In the house we have a pool table, games, books, TV and wifi throughout. The house can sleep 6 (extra charges apply). The kitchen is well equipped but there is no dishwasher (yet) so bring paper plates, plastic cups if you hate washing dishes. The bathroom has recently been updated to include a soaker tub. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire property. For the canoe in the pond we ask that you use the provided life jackets always. Please note, the pond is a true pond and not fed by any springs etc.. so the water level does fluctuate and in fall, it may get quite low which will make canoeing impossible. In the winter, you are welcome to use your own private pond skating rink (hockey nets provided). We have trails to hike where you can spot deer, porcupine (gather his quills at the bottom of his tree), birds and much more. Slide down our toboggan hill or bring your skis and go cross-country skiing. Interaction with GuestsGrandma and Grampa live in the cottage next door. They can help with directions and they are the ones who look after the trails, maintaining the grounds etc... but mostly you will have your own space and they have theirs unless you request more guidance - with 122 acres there is more than enough room to share. They have lots of family and don't mind any of the sounds that go along with family fun so sing your heart out around the camp fire or enjoy that soccer game with all the laughter and heckling that goes along with it... The NeighborhoodOur house is located in Havelock, On. in the North Kawartha region. Havelock has a 24 hour Foodland, liquor store, hardware and Tim Hortons so getting supplies is no problem. We are a 10 minute drive to Quarry Bay beach, a sandy bottom beach. The Petroglyphs provincial park, a native cultural exhibition and hiking grounds is 15 minutes away. The Canoe Museum, an interactive museum explaining Canadian history is 30 minutes away. Warsaw Scenic caves, a connected system of caves, is 15 minutes away. The Reptile Zoo, seasonal hours only, is 20 minutes away. Peterborough lift lock cruises, largest in Canada are 30 minutes away. For fishing, 10 minutes away takes you to the Trent River and a pier from which you can catch pike, perch, etc...Please note a fishing license is required for ages 18 and over. There is also horseback riding available in the area. And if you like to ski, Devil's elbow ski resort is a 45 minute drive away or try Treetop Trekking, also 45 minutes away. Getting AroundA car is a must around here. The property is best hiked to be enjoyed so bring comfortable shoes. Other Things to NoteWe try to keep the pantry stocked. There's nothing worse than trying to cook with spices your forgot at home. Please use what you need and leave what you don't so that all guests may enjoy this feature.

The SpaceThis is our home on the weekends and as a result, our cottage is pretty well appointed. The main floor has a fully stocked kitchen, bathroom with shower & tub, a generous dining room, kitchen, living room with a gas fireplace, a laundry room, and a large master bedroom with queen sized bed. On the second level there is another master bedroom with another queen sized bed and a sitting area with a futon. You can see our massive three level deck outside with net-enclosed sitting area. The barbecue is on the second level of the deck. Two kayaks and a canoe are provided. There is also a fire pit and fire wood provided. This waterfront cottage is situated on the waters edge on a weed-free shoreline that is perfect for swimming, especially off the dock or kayaking / canoeing down the long lake. The swimming is the highlight for us, and the small lake in our area about 6 to 15 feet deep. If you search on the internet for Callaghan's Rapids Marmora, ON, those rapids are a 5 min kayak trip from our dock, and an amazing place to hang-out. Beyond swimming and kayaking, there is excellent hiking and biking trails nearby to take advantage of. We are situated next to a large conservation area and there are a large number of bird species for bird watchers and great fishing for muskie, bass, pickerel, and pike. There is outdoor parking for 3 cars on the property. Guest AccessYou will have access to the whole property except the garage and bunky attached to the garage. Interaction with GuestsWe are a couple of hours away in Toronto but accessible by phone. We also have a friend in the neighborhood who is available if an emergency arises. The NeighborhoodVery isolated, very quiet. There can be spotty internet and cellular service. Cambellford is the closest city, but Marmora and Havelock both have groceries stores, beer and liquor stores. Nearby attractions include Petroglyphs Provincial Park (Indian rock carvings called petroglyphs & hiking trails 5 km, 7 km & 16 km treks for exploring the area's natural environment), Golf Courses (Marvel Rapids,Oakland Greens Golf, Bellmere Winds Golf Course and more), Historical Cordova Lake Falls, Reptile Zoo, Warsaw Caves, Marmora Mines, and Antique Shops along highway #7. Chocolate factory in Campbellford. While we don't provide bikes or ATVs, there are great trails nearby. Also nearby horseback riding, in the winter, dog sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Check out the Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance website for more information and maps. Visit the conservation area and watch out for birds and animals such as Turtle, Grouse, Wild Turkey, Blue Heron, Barred Owl, Flying Squirrel and Deer. We hear and see loons very very frequently! Other Things to NoteThis is our cottage that we live in on the weekends so it is lived in fully set up space. There is one indoor bathroom and a very clean fresh outhouse behind the house with a toilet only. We aren't on a large lake. We aren't a good spot for a large group get away. If you are looking for some place busy, please search for Muskoka or Rice Lake, that is probably more appropriate. What our place is, is quite, beautiful and lazy! There are some things that you should know about the place. The power does go out occasionally and if it does, you just have to wait until Hydro has is back on - which is usually in a few hours. There is no back-up generator. There is no air conditioning. Although we can leave the kayaks and canoe out for you, if you sink them, it is your responsibility to get them back to shore. It is also up to you to check that there are no fire bans in the area before having a fire, and to douse the fire extensively when you are done. The is a chance that the propane might go out on the BBQ, so you might have to make a trip in to town to refill it if that happens. In general we would like to rent to someone who is pretty easy and self sufficient. If you are that, then you are welcome to come back year after year if you want! For us, we just love making our place available when we aren't using it, because we think it is pretty spectacular, and we like sharing with others. This isn't really a business for us, and as a result we aren’t the best owners if you need a lot of care. We lock the door & leave the place to you; you lock the door and leave the place back to us. As a result, we keep our rents a little lower than average and we are willing to do a short term stay when most places will make you book a whole week during the summer. If you are booking in the off season, then our place is still quaint and we love going for hikes and enjoying the quiet. But you should know that we keep the temperature low during the winter and it takes a day for the house to heat up in the winter. The trails are great for snow showing, but can be muddy in the spring. If you have an ATV, then the trails are great but it’s a pretty sleepy place in the winter! If you want a couple of nights out in nature with pretty good swimming, a BBQ, a fire at night and a glass of wine, with lots of stars at night, then this is a pretty good spot!
