The SpaceLei O Kohala guest suite is located in historic North Kohala, in the ancient ahupua'a division of Puuepa. Surrounded by several na pu'u (volcanic cinder cones), the hillside setting has unobstructed views of Haleakala, Maui across the Alenuihaha Channel. Bordering Parker Ranch on the west, the south and east sides are also undeveloped, giving the vacation rental seclusion and privacy. Puuepa is the site of the ancient Mo'okini Heiau (temple) whose origins date back 1,500 years ago to the first human migration from the Marquesas. Puuepa is also the birthplace of King Kamehameha the Great who conquered and unified the Hawaiian Islands. Decades later, St. Damien became the pastor of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church before taking on his destined work of charity at the Kalaupapa Leper Colony on Molokai. Lei O Kohala is located near the old sugar plantation town of Hawi with its many shops, galleries and restaurants. 2 miles further, quaint Kapaau town is the site of the original statue of King Kamehameha. Continuing on the Akoni Pule Highway, you will end at the outlook overlooking breathtakingly beautiful and inspiring Pololu Valley. To the south of Lei O Kohala Vacation Rental, world class white and black sand beaches are as near as a short 20 minute drive. Up country Kamuela is located 30 minutes away. Kona International Airport is located 50 minutes away. Enjoy your morning complimentary Kona blend coffee on the veranda while as many as 20 species of birds greet you with their songs. Sip your favorite wine on the terrace under the venerable whispering ironwood trees. Don’t be surprised if the curious Parker Ranch cattle come right up to the fence and stare at you! Or if the wild tom turkey leads his flock across the open pasture. Lei O Kohala is located where the rainy part of North Kohala ends, and the arid landscape begins. This climate transition frequently gives birth to incredibly gorgeous rainbows! And blessed are those late afternoons as the setting sun paints the sky with hues of gold, pink, orange and red. On a clear new moon night, step outside, look up and marvel at nature’s incomparable grand display of the Milky Way spreading across the star lit sky. Lei O Kohala is a place of beauty, peace and inspiration. The guest suite is accessed via a private entrance. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a bay window dining area. Step through the double French doors and relax on the 34 feet veranda with views of the ocean and Maui. Kohala Guest Suite is located in historic North Kohala, in the ancient ahupua'a division of Puuepa. The guest suite is a spacious 816 sf, one bedroom, one bath, living room, study with full kitchen. It is a totally separate unit with its own private entrance. It is so self-contained that you wouldn't think the guest suite was part of the main house. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a bay window dining area. Step through the double French doors and relax on the 34 feet veranda with views of the ocean and Maui. The living room is furnished with heirloom heritage koa furniture and a pune’e (day bed) for lounging. The SpaceMost of my guests come through word-of-mouth. A young woman and her mother just stayed with me and she wrote to me "It was an incredible experience. Your healing power is unparalleled". My intention in sharing my space is to welcome you into my life, while still allowing all to have their own space and time. To connect, to share and to exchange. Breakfast is included and I will make us some fresh local fruits, or perhaps a super food smoothie or a hearty buckwheat porridge. A couple who stayed in my home said the energy in the house was very healing and restorative. If you are looking for a unique experience in Hawaii with someone who is happy to share and point you to the magic of the island, I warmly welcome you!! Step out onto the deck to take in views of the ocean and Maui. Feel the earth beneath your feet on the soft grass in the backyard. The house is hugged all around by tropical plants and the sounds of nature. You are welcome to enjoy fresh tropical fruits straight from the land when they are blossoming. I practice yoga, meditation, healing music and cultivate a lot of positive thoughts here. Keeping the space very clean and organized promotes clear and nurturing energy. While there are many vacation rentals available, what I am offering is a chance to soak in the positive vibes I have cultivated in my home. I love to host and connect with people, however how much we interact depends on what you prefer and my time availability. If you would like to house to yourself, that option is available too, for an additional $25 a night and minimum 3 night stays. My vision is to warmly receive folks visiting the Big Island that want a connection to the Hawaii only locals get to experience and to provide a glimpse of holistic living. I will share with you the best places to go, local events and gatherings, and connect you to a network of people doing amazing things in Hawaii from massage, to acupuncture, yoga, dance, music, bee keeping, permaculture, you name it, someone on the island is rocking at it. Want to know when and where the farmer’s markets are, the best place to get the freshest Macadamia nuts, raw local honey…just ask. The guest bedroom is large and full of great natural light. It has a queen-size super comfy bed, a closet and wicker drawers for storage. There is cushioned chair and side table for working on a laptop or reading (wifi throughout the house). The room has two windows made private by beautiful landscaping that keep the atmosphere fresh and well circulated. The living is open and also receives lots of natural light with the coziest couch in the world and a papasan chair for cuddling up with a book (feel free to read the ones in my library). The kitchen is equipped with all the items needed for cooking, including a gas stove and oven, blender, crock pot, toaster oven and small food processor. I would prefer if meat is not cooked in the house, however this is not a deal breaker, just a preference. The bathroom has a shower/bathtub combo - the bathtub is being refinished within the next two weeks so bathing will be available than. I am opening my home to you and welcoming those who feel this would be a unique and enriching way to experience the sacred island of Hawaii. My most memorable experiences while traveling have been in homestays, which provide an inside view of another culture and way of living. The culture of Hawaii is one of enjoying the gift of life, going with the flow and treating everyone with love and kindness. The vibration of Aloha is a blessing filled with healing and happiness. I warmly welcome you in the true spirit of Aloha. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house except one bedroom. If guests choose the home-stay option than we will share the living room, kitchen and bathroom. If guests choose to have the space to themselves, there is an additional $25 per night fee. Guests also have access to a beautiful deck with lawn chairs and backyard overlooking the ocean and Maui. Interaction with GuestsRegardless if you choose the home stay or the private space, I am more than happy to answer questions about Hawaii, recommend the best places to go to and let you know about great local events. I will meet you for check-in to help you get acquainted with the house and give you pointers about settling into Hawaii. If you choose the have the space to yourself, I will be available to answer questions via phone or email throughout your stay. If you choose the home stay option I am happy to interact as both of our time and energy permits. I am also happy to give you space and quiet. I want you to feel at home and at ease, feel free to communicate what you need and I will do my best to provide it. The NeighborhoodThe cottage is located just 2 miles from Hawi town, a quaint little town with restaurants, art galleries, a Cava Bar (a cava is a traditional Hawaiian beverage made from the root of a tree, used in ceremony). Many nights restaurants feature local artists. There is a grocery store, bank and gas station near by. Every Saturday there is a fun farmer's market featuring organic locally grown fruits and veggies, artisan prepared foods and live music. Hawi is a small town, about 2,000 people. It is a tight knit community where everyone knows each other. The house is located on a 5 acres of beautiful land overlooking the ocean and Maui. There are 3 other people who live on this land in separate houses. They are all very good friends of mine and very sweet people. You probably won't see them but the outside deck is a shared space with one other person who is rarely home. Getting AroundA rental car is a must for vacationing on the Big Island. Other Things to NoteThere are no pets inside the house but the neighbor owns two dogs and a cat. They don't come inside the house but they are on the premise in case you need to know for allergies, all very friendly.
