The SpaceRuishton Cottage is a Cottage full of surprises! In the summer Ruishton Cottage is full of birdsong from birds like the Tui, Thruses and many sparrows to name a few, at night you can sometimes hear a Morepork. If you are very lucky you may see birds like pheasants and wood peon. We have 9 small dogs housed in their own kennels which guests say you wouldn't know were there, Larraine wrote a few stories about the dogs a few years back-one has been published on amazon titled "Socket Where are you?" most of our dogs are old now but we still have a couple of young dogs that sometimes have puppies. There is a small shop on site that provides natural products for both people and pets, included are Home made natural soaps made by your hosts in the winter for summer sales, Larraine also grooms dogs, we have sheep and chickens and sometimes puppies and lambs to pat. We welcome any interested guest to come join in the activities. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the B & B and it's verandah and Gardens which includes a children's playground, there are two tables available on the deck to use for meals and hear the lovely birdsong as you eat (there are a number of different birds here) There is also a BBQ available for use .. The Spa pool is available to Guest and spa towels will be provided.Ruishton Cottage is a ideal cross between a motel an(URL HIDDEN)where guest have a complete wing of the house to themselves, however hosts Larraine and Ross may use the varandah and spa as usual but for the most part don't while guests are in residents. Interaction with GuestsAs hosts we like to mingle a little with our guests however we also like to retreat and provide privacy as well, depending what time a guest arrives we sometimes suggest we provide some afternoon tea. We then close the door between the B & B and our home to offer our guest complete privacy. If for any reason our guest needs or wants anything they need only to knock on our door. We always welcome a chat. The NeighborhoodWe live in a fairly quite neighborhood and not too far away from other homes with families with pets and livestock, we all know each other by name up and down our 5 km long road. Our nine small dogs do make a bit of noise when being feed and moved in and out of the kennels, however once they are put to bed they are quiet for the night and rarely bark without reason, when in such case is dwelt with as swiftly as possible. Recommendations for your stay would be to visit Shelly beach & the mac nut farm cafe on the way (Or any of the many cafes in Helensville), Experience the Parakai Hot pools, Muriwai Surf Beach, Fishing and Cruising the vast Kaipara Habour, Mountain Bike riding in Wood Hill Forest or Tree Adventures (Both adventure wonderlands), visit Historic Helensville or Gibbs Farm and more. Getting AroundAlthough we are only 5mins from Helensville we are classified as being rural and do not have public transport. There is parking available directly beside the B & B and/ or a paddock to park a boat or horse float in (Seasonal) Ruishton Cottage is very easy to get to from the international airport, once on the southern motorway heading north, take the northwestern motorway and follow the signs to Helensville up SH16, just before Helensville there is a round about pointing right to Helensville and left to hot pools, turn left towards hot pools then Fordyce Road is first left about 2km past the round about, we're at 279 Fordyce Road. Other Things to NoteExtra guests $35 after the first two full paying (singles $90each- $150 for a couple using one bed)

The SpaceWhat I love about our space is the scenic tranquility. It is always green and calm, and nothing disturbs the quiet except for the periodic mooing of the neighbour's cows! I've learnt all about NZ birds just by looking out my windows... wood pigeon, tui, finch, pukeko, thrush and rosella are common sights, especially in spring and summer. Some days, if you're very lucky, the wild red deer that live in the bush will pay a visit to the main paddock and impress you with their quiet dignity. Guest AccessPaddocks and gardens. Interaction with GuestsWhen you arrive, we will come out to say hello and help with any information or directions you may need. We are always happy to chat and provide local knowledge. We're keen travellers too, and love hearing about other people's travels, whether in NZ or elsewhere. However, the flat is self-contained, with a separate entrance, so you will certainly be able to have as much privacy as you'd like. The NeighborhoodWe are a short drive to the many lovely vineyards and wedding venues in the area, including Bridgewater Estate, Kumeu Winery, the Brigham and Allely Estate. If you're on a gourmet tour, you can't beat the artisan cafes and award-winning restaurants in the area, including Hallertau, Tasting Shed, Gingercrunch Cafe and the historic Riverhead Tavern. This is also a popular area for mountain bikers and hikers. Nearby golf clubs are Helensville Club, South Head and Huapai. An easy 20-minute drive will get you to the nearest beaches. Also close to Woodhill Forest and various paintballing venues. Getting AroundGetting around is easy if you have your own wheels as traffic is usually light. Taxis and airport shuttles will pick up and drop off door to door. Drive time to airport: 1 hour Drive time to Auckland city: 40 minutes. Free, uncovered parking for 2 cars. Other Things to NoteThere is no public transport. The nearest bus stop is only six minutes' drive away in Helensville Village, but it's a long walk! If we're home and available, we could drop you off, but if you mean to explore the area in a meaningful way, it's best to drive. There's no better way to take in the vineyards, cafes, restaurants and nearby Shelly Beach and Muriwai Beach.

It has a huge barn door that provides open living for sunny days and warmth on cooler times. The view with the door open is subtropical plants, ponds, a stream, alpacas and is ever changing. The barn has a coal range for cooking and heating, a warm fire in the evening. Traditional flush water toilet. The generous sized bath uses pure rainwater. .
