The Hoose is right on the Harbour at Helmsdale, in arguably the best location within the village, on a quiet no-through road within feet of the water's edge. Helmsdale is an easy drive up the A9 from Inverness (or you could get the train) has two pubs, shops, a bank, Library, Visitor Centre, the best fish and chips in the North and is well placed for Highland and Island exploration - though the view from the front door could keep you occupied for hours without moving an inch. The Hoose has 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting room and a newly refurbished stunning modern kitchen/dining room/living room with amazing views of the harbour. There is a staircase in the living area of the kitchen which leads up to a 30ft playroom/study area which is a fabulous space for children to play in. This is awaiting carpeting which will be done in May. The Hoose is home away from home. There is full gas central heating, open fire in the sitting room and a large enclosed garden. A deposit of ÂŁ100 is required within 7 days of our confirmation to secure the booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before the date of your arrival. Bookings made less than 6 weeks prior to arrival should be paid in full within 7 days of confirmation. We will do our very best to re-let should you have to cancel, but bookings are accepted on the basis that refunds are limited to making good the shortfall, if any, from a subsequent booking. Nestling below Creag Bunillidh the traditional Highland fishing village of Helmsdale is the ideal base from which to explore Sutherland. Situated at the mouth of the River Helmsdale (from which it takes its name) it has a lot to offer the visitor. Sit by the harbour and watch the boats come and go, explore the beaches for gemstones and fossils, play tennis or golf, go bird watching or hill walking. The River Helmsdale is regarded as one of Scotland's salmon fishing rivers. Visitors can fish the river inexpensively on the association water, tickets can be purchased in the village as can tickets to fish one of the many lochs in the area for trout.. Visit some of the many ancient brochs and cairns or spend an afternoon at nearby Dunrobin Castle. When night eventually falls, call into one of the hotels for a friendly chat, or have a good meal of local venison, salmon lobster or crab. Helmmsdale is the home of "La Mirage" , the famous fish and chip restaurant rated one of the best in the UK. For those who like to cook for themselves fresh lobsters and crabs can be purchased from local fishermen. Using Helmsdale as your base, John o'Groats and the Orkney Islands are within easy reach and the whole of Sutherland is at your doorstep. Walkers, you will be delighted with the choice of local beauty spots to investigate-why not try to catch a glimpse of deer on the nearby hillsides.
