The SpaceThe house has 2 bedrooms: one downstairs on the ground floor with a deluxe queen-sized mattress, desk and iMac. The large, upstairs master loft also has a queen-sized mattress, a half-bathroom, and overlooks the living room (there's a 1/2 wall and no door at the top of the stairs, but it still feels private). Both rooms have abundant closet space. The living room area has a new couch, art books, board games, and a flatscreen TV with HDMI & mini display cords for connecting with a laptop. A large dining table seats 6 comfortably. The living/dining areas are connected in the main room of the home. The kitchen is stocked with essentials (spices, baking supplies, etc.), and pots and pans for cooking and baking, which we hope you’ll make good use of. There's a screened-in sunroom off of the main living/dining room that's great for warm weather days. There's a table and chairs out here for relaxing, eating, or working. Linens and towels are provided. The house also has: - wifi - dishwasher + microwave - washer + dryer - central air - beautifully restored floors - handmade ceramics + furniture We hope you’ll treat the home as if it were yours. The artwork in the home was made by family and friends, Jacob made most of the furniture, and Youngna made the dishware/ceramics. ACTIVITIES We’re sandwiched between Minnewaska State Park (20 minutes), the Shawangunks (10 minutes), and the Catskills (20-30 minutes), so there’s extensive trails for hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and endless other outdoor activity. There’s also tons of cycling, swimming holes, jogging trails, tubing (on the Esopus River), and yoga studios in the area. Golf is literally just out the back door at the Stone Dock Golf Course. For a little local putting you can go next door to the High Falls Cafe and get right on the green. Don’t worry, though, no golf balls will disturb (though you may see an occasional passerby on the green.) You can also check out the The woodstock Country Club, The Lazy Swan Golf & Country Club, or the golf course at Mohonk Mountain. The home is close to farm stands, apple orchards, markets, wine shops, swimming holes, great restaurants, thrift stores, and tons of outdoor activity. Nearby destinations: Nearby towns include New Paltz, Kingston, Stone Ridge, Phoenicia, Woodstock, and Saugerties on the west side of the Hudson, and Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Tivoli, and Hudson just across the river. Guest AccessWe’ll give you our guide book with everything you need to know about our favorite markets, restaurants, hikes, and activities once you’ve booked. This is an ideal getaway for a family, close friends, and couples. Interaction with GuestsWe’ll give you our guide book with everything you need to know about our favorite markets, shops, restaurants, antique markets, hikes, and activities once you’ve booked. This is an ideal getaway for a family, close friends, and couples. The NeighborhoodHigh Falls is a tiny, historic, and charming town first established in the 1690s. It’s old and quirky with a terrific local co-op, craft beer spot (Hopped Up Cafe), weekly flea market, a few funky thrift stores, and a handful of restaurants. You’re right next to Rosendale, where you can attend a yearly pickle festival, have the world’s best egg sandwiches at the Big Cheese, see a movie at Rosendale Theater, or walk the Rosendale Trestle. Stone Ridge is full of gorgeous 200+ year old stone buildings and offers grocery stores, more thrifitng, restaurants, and a wine shop. We love the area: it's beautiful and rural, but not remote. We have quiet neighbors both across the street and next door. Next door is a friendly cafe with live music (mostly jazz, cover tracks, and oldies). Note: Our backyard is partially the 9th hole of a small, local golf course, which keeps views open all year round. This also means you may see people out back during the day. Getting AroundDriving is easy (2 hrs. from NYC). There are also buses running 20 times a day from NY Port Authority to Rosendale, a 5-min. drive away.

The SpaceFor a relaxing time on the side of a gentle river 90 miles north of NYC, please come visit! Our rustic house at the end of a long winding dirt road is a delight. Arriving, you'll see an old red barn, a large white wooden house, and fruit trees. The sound of the river and the seclusion of the site quickly give the feeling that this is an unusual spot! On the first floor: kitchen (with a fancy commercial range), full bathroom, laundry, dining, living room with a large flat screen TV and one bedroom. Most of the furniture is simple mid-century modern, American and Danish, with a splash of Persian rugs. There are 2 A/C units in the living/dining area, and one fan. On the second floor: four bedrooms, and a full bathroom (no shower) with a claw foot tub. The rooms are simply decorated. Walls are white, the floors are blue. We have re-decorated Bedroom 4 recently: new windows and grey carpet. One bedroom has an A/C unit; the others have fans. The house is comfortable and has lots of character; but it is not a shiny new house and needs to be treated gently. We are working on it, so please be okay with that. Solar panels are on our to-do list. The South facing living room porch catches the morning sun and is a great place for a coffee. Looking down from the porch to the river's edge there an extensive lawn: including a wooden picnic table; a rough fire pit (composed of a few large stones) where you can grill; peach trees, an apple and a pear tree; and a large fallow garden. The lawn slopes down to the river, where you can swim or sun bathe on a marvelous boulder. On a good day, you could spend hours on that boulder, watching hawks, an eagle and a crane soar up and down the river. Or bring your canoe or kayak and go for a paddle. Or just lie in the hammock. After your afternoon walk--Mohonk Preserve (15 mins. drive away) is a favorite-- come back to the house. Light the fire (on the lawn in summer; the fireplace in winter), mix up your favorite concoction, and watch the light bounce off the water. Starry night skies and fireflies add to the location's magic on a summer's evening. We like to get a sense of who you are and that you'll like the house. PLEASE tell us about yourself in some detail; and those who will be traveling with you. Thank you! It helps us a lot. Also, we prefer longer bookings -- but if you really just want a couple days let us know. Feel free to ask about anything else! Please note: swimming is at your own risk, and bring your own water gear. Guest AccessEntire property (but not the barn, basement or attic). Use of the river is at your own risk. Interaction with GuestsLimited-- we will either greet you or provide a coded key access. We are available if you should you have any questions or problems. In addition to information about local attractions in the area, we will leave some Guest Notes on using the house and grounds. The NeighborhoodHigh Falls (1.3 miles) is an outrageously cute town down the hill from the spectacular Mohonk Mountain House. There's plenty to see and do in High Falls and environs : a Sunday flea market (April through October) as well as local museums and restaurants. We are near excellent hiking, kayaking (off the front lawn if you bring your own), cross-country skiing, jogging, cycling and rock climbing. We are very close to Mohonk Preserve (15 mins to Spring Farm entrance), the Shawangunks, and Minnewaska State Park. We are walking distance to the High Falls Food Co-op (15 minutes) and several restaurants in High Falls (although you'll probably drive if you are like Mateo because we are at the bottom of a hill). And there is great running along the rail trail. As you approach the house along the dirt road you can see the massive canal walls built by the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company. From the 1850s barges carried cargo to the Midwest. Funky and cool, nearby Rosendale (4.5 miles) boasts a summer festival and has many little shops and restaurants, a good bakery and cheese shop and one of the few remaining single screen movie houses. Two great art institutions between us and NYC are the DIA: Beacon( less than an hour) and Storm King Art Center and Sculpture Park (about an hour). If staying a few days you might plan side trips or, alternatively visit on your way to or from the city. The Mohonk Mountain House (6 miles) is an old style palace of a resort atop the nearest mountain-- you'll pay up for an expensive lunch or dinner (in order to just get into the place). Or book a spa-- Anna vouches for it. The main attraction, however, is the natural beauty and peace and quiet of the Hudson Valley. Or even more pointedly: the main attraction is the house and grounds. The neighborhood is great, but the highlight truly is our spot. It has a quiet and seclusion you probably haven't experienced for some time. Getting AroundIt can be a lovely drive from NYC to High Falls (seriously) (traffic permitting!) Take the Palisades Parkway off the George Washington Bridge (upper deck only); and then to Interstate 87 North, exiting at New Paltz. Then follow signs to Mohonk Mountain House. 1 hour 30 or so from the GW bridge to the house. By bus: 1:hr 40 mins from Port Authority (8th Ave and 42nd St in Manhattan) to New Paltz on Adirondack Trailways ( $23 or so one way). A car is definitely preferable if you want to explore, but it is not essential. You can get a cab from the bus at New Paltz to the house (11 miles, approximately $23 --just ask at the bus stop, there are cabs there). As mentioned, you can walk to the High Falls food coop (10mins) and several restaurants in High Falls (20 mins). The Marbletown rail trail is within walking distance. You can bring a bike on the bus and then bike 5 miles to the house. In that case go one stop further, to Rosendale, which is a little closer than New Paltz. Check in advance with the bus-- they have some weird rules. Or just ride from the city-- hey, only 90 miles :). Emmanuel's Market and the Stoneridge wine shop are 2 miles away. If you are coming from a NYC area airport and don't want to rent a car, make your way to Port Authority (by taxi $45 or so from JFK; or train to Penn Station $12 or so) at 42nd and 8th ave in midtown Manhattan and jump on the bus. You can also get Metro North to Poughkeepsie or Rhinebeck from Grand Central on 5th and 42nd in Manhattan and get a taxi from there (but this pricey since about 45 mins to house and less efficient than bus) (but if you are coming from the North country like Mateo -- e.g. Buffalo or Montreal it may make sense). Winter - and snow As a public road, it is ploughed but being the countryside you may have to wait until they come. Please note that the sloping drive to the house is not cleared, so you may have to shovel snow. There are 2 shovels in the barn. Cars can be left in the ploughed turning circle area. However, we suggest you check the weather and, if there is snow, that you arrive while it is still light. Other Things to NoteDaily rates are for 1-6 guests. Extra guests can be accommodated @ $50 /person/night. The maximum number of guests for week or month-long stays is 6. Up to 8 guests can be accommodated for 3-6 days. Lower rates are available during fall and winter. We are keen to share our house at affordable prices for families, students, artists, teachers, etc. We are open to requests for regular or extended bookings at favourable rates (ask for a Special Offer) throughout the fall and winter (e.g. for academics, artists, etc., in the New Paltz area for a few months). AT&T is usually the only service with cell reception (up at the top of the hill you can get most carriers). There is wifi and internet service. You can receive but not make calls on our landline. Note that stairs between first and second floor are steep (see pic). Our family owns the adjacent property as well (the lock master's cottage for the guy who opened and closed the locks of the canal). Please feel at home at our place, and yet also be considerate. Guests are expected to treat the house and grounds with care. Our water comes from a well. Please use it sparingly. We have a septic system so be *very careful* not to dispose of any foreign matter down the toilet. We love swimming in the river- which abuts our property. But swim at your own risk. Please use common sense-- don't dive etc, the river bottom is uneven. The swimming is beautiful and sublime but potentially a lethal activity! At times, after snowmelt or a rain, the river can be dangerous. Other outdoor activities, such as grilling, are at your own risk. And watch out for ticks and poison ivy (we will leave some more info in our Guest Notes).
