The SpaceThis timber cabin is built on an old sheep station right at the southern tip of the Blue Mountains. It's fully insulated with a wood stove for cosy evenings when it's cold outside. The kitchen is set up with plenty of storage and gas stove/ oven. Electricity is from solar and wind and there are big storage batteries to keep you going. There's a 100 litre bar fridge (with icebox), electric lights and a good stereo all running off the batteries, and the inverter gives enough 240v to run a toaster, electric blankets and other devices up to 1000w. Normal flushing indoor toilet and hot shower. Rain water is collected in tanks and goes though a filter for drinking. Pure as it gets! There's 1 queen bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge plus hammocks on the deck. Extra people are welcome but you'll need mattresses etc. With a huge fire pit, wood fired bbq and outdoor speakers you'll have a night to remember under a huge starry sky. Guest AccessFull run of the 220 acre property, not shared, just you. So bring your bikes, kites, dogs, frisbee, balls, yoga mats, saxophones, drum kits and anything else you need for an adventurous weekend. A strong pair of shoes or boots are an essential. Sorry, the tractor and storage shed are not included. Interaction with GuestsWe won't be there at the same time as you, so will email details on access codes etc prior to your stay. Check in and out times are based on whether there's someone there before/ after you - let me know if you're going to be in early and I'll confirm if OK. The NeighborhoodTaralga is the friendly village 15 minutes away with good pubs, cafes, and a couple of shops. Great people who love a yarn and give you an insight into country life. Wombeyan Caves are 10 minutes the other way and well worth a visit. Check out the tour times before you leave so you don't miss out. They have some fantastic walks and cool swim for the hottest days. Other than that it's the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park right on our northern boundary. Check out Yerranderie, the ghost village from the gold rush era. An hour away is the spectacular Mayfield Gardens, the water gardens are open every weekend and the whole place is open for 4 weekends a year. Getting AroundEasy 2wd access for just about all cars. If you're bringing the Porsche you may have to park on the driveway and walk the last few 100 metres. Other Things to NoteThis is an off grid cabin so it's not as plush as a hotel. It's a simple space built by us to get away to, so while not toddler friendly, older kids will have a great time! There is no mobile reception on the property, but reasonable signal 2 minutes from the front gate (under the power lines). There's no TV or Internet either, but plenty of books to relax with. We've left details of things to do in the area and instructions for the cabin. The cupboards are pretty well stocked with essentials for tea, coffee etc. Check the weather for the area before you leave and bring appropriate clothes- it can get really cold in winter! Please bring your own sheets, there's pillows and doonas for both beds.

Located in the Southern Highlands, this Joadja masterpiece is the most iconic, private home by Australias architectural master the late Harry Seidler. Famously known as Seidler House, this is arguably Seidlers most striking residential masterpiece built into the natural rock formation, this award-winning design was completed in 2000 and positioned on the edge of a rugged sandstone escarpment so as to ensure panoramic bush views overlooking the deep picturesque gorge of the Wingecarribee River, Joadja, Mittagong and Bowral in the Southern Highlands. The home features spacious open plan interiors with floor to ceiling glass walls that invite in an abundance of natural light and warmth, as well as opening up the home to the breathtaking views and scenery that await you. Opposing curved roofs, local stone, Alta quartzite floors, Verde marina granite and Norwegian stone are all artfully blended together to create a breathtaking indoor atmosphere. White walls complement the stone and generous living spaces with open fireplaces crafted together to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor. Expansive viewing decks, vast outdoor gardens and entertaining areas, sculptures and stone gardens that lead to a central swimming pool are truly spectacular additions to the home. Lochani Vineyard is located near Wombeyan Caves, at the head of the pristine Wiarborough Valley, around 20kms north of the historic village of Taralga. Our vineyard adjoins the southern boundary of the Blue Mountains World Heritage area. Lochani was designed as a vineyard and a winery, but more importantly as a retreat to escape the ever more stressful demands of city living. Over the years the feeling of splendid isolation here has restored many a jaded soul, particularly when blended with the traditional Australian farmhouse setting inclusive of all the modern comforts. Driving up the last few kilometres of dirt road and watching the mobile telephone signal melt away, along with the worries of city life, sets the stage for your stay in this exquisite country homestead. As you open the door to a warm fire in winter or cool breeze in summer you see that all the bedrooms open onto the extensive verandah perfectly positioned to welcome the morning sun. Some mornings sparkle with dew or frost or sometimes snow and others greet you with an otherworldly mist crawling down the valley. As the day gets underway, your choices are endless, relax and do nothing, explore the property and locality, meander through the vines, roam the caves and that's to name just a few. There is plenty of wildlife to see during the day, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, an abundant native bird population and on the odd occasion listen for the lyre bird calling, however wombats are night time wanderers. After your day’s activities, adjourn to the verandah and enjoy the peaceful tranquillity as the sun sets and the muted colours of a typical Australian sunset spread across the blue gums covering the Great Divide. Just after dark, try a bit of satellite spotting in the night sky and, if luck is on your side, watching the moon rise over the Great Divide is a magical moment and never to be forgotten. Over the years the superbly equipped kitchen has been home to the creation of many a great feast, especially when there was all hands on deck for a busy vineyard task such as netting or picking. The opportunity is now for our guests to continue this theme and show off their Master Chef credentials. As with all great traditions an after dinner glass of something special to wash down a tall story by the open fire is a must. Before you retire, if the weather is clear, turn down the lights and go outside to experience the Milky Way in all its spectacular glory across the sky, identify the planets, the Southern Cross and Orion. Stars and planets that seem so close that you could reach out and touch them in the cool, crystal clear mountain air. If conditions are right, to the north you can see the glow of the Sydney’s lights just above the hills.

Koorakai is an Aboriginal word meaning "gum tree." Come and relax in this spacious three bedroom house brimming with unique character overlooking a beautiful bushland valley. The interior has a rustic elegance made possible by using as many materials from our local natural environment as possible. Koorakai house has been sustainably crafted from basalt rocks removed from the hill into which it is built and from hundred year old recycled sand stock bricks. Its adobe floors are made from local granite soil; mosaics are designed from themes inspired by the Abercrombie river which borders the property; and the slate used in the bathroom is hand-hewn from the local quarry. The main living area is a generous space, perfect for a family group of up to ten people. The open plan design has a large open fireplace made from local basalt stone as its central focal point, and is the perfect way to bring people together. The king-sized master bedroom is large and spacious, with room enough for a sofa and a baby cot, and direct access to the verandah and spectacular views of the valley and bush beyond. The second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, while the third bedroom has bunk beds that can sleep four kids or two more adults. Relax in a bath in front of a picture window with amazing views. Enjoy the feeling of showering in a river rock setting, surrounded by mosaics made from pebbles sourced from the local Abercrombie riverbed. The house has a large wraparound verandah which has such depth that a completely extra living space and dining area has been created. Enjoy spectacular sunsets while dining on the verandah, or relax on verandah sofas while watching birds and wildlife drink at the dam in the gully. If you are feeling more energetic, our 2500 acre property features four well-marked bush walks, totalling 15 kilometres. The closest town, Taralga, known for its historical heritage stone buildings and traditional wooden slab huts, lies about 25kms south of the farm, a scenic country drive of 15-20 minutes, and has a couple of pubs, a small takeaway store, a lovely General Store, Post Office, Gift Shop, a Heritage Museum that can be viewed by appointment, and many other little surprises. The farm has patchy Telstra Mobile reception, however for those of you who may suffer from techno-withdrawkl, a phone and WiFi is available, at any time, up at the main farmhouse at the Tin Shed Art Gallery. We look forward to seeing you at Koorakai.
