Our Barn is located in Hobart's CBD just mere minutes from city's major cultural and gastronomic attractions including the historic precincts of Salamanca + Battery Point. Wake up to city views, relax over a latte at Betsy, pick up a picnic lunch from Pigeon Hole Bakers and cap it all off with a perfectly plated dinner at Aloft! As designers our approach to the Barn has always been to keep as much of the (incredibly beautiful and richly textured) existing building fabric as possible. The original sandstone walls are exposed both internally and externally. The timber shingled roof and existing beams contrast with the new kitchen and bathroom insertion. The Barn is light and open, yet simultaneously cosy.

    The SpacePLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK, SO YOU KNOW WHAT WE OFFER: The flat is a small, older-style apartment, on a steep hill. There are beds for up to 5 single adults (share rooms), or three couples BUT it is a small flat, and 5 or 6 adults will find the living space very cramped unless you intend to be out for most of the day. The king size bed in the main bedroom can be split into twin beds (2.05m long) - please let me know in advance if you want twin beds for your stay. In the second bedroom there are two large king single bunks (2.05m long), and there is ample wardrobe space in both bedrooms. There is a comfortable, sprung, double sofa bed in the living room. The beds in the bedrooms have electric blankets and fluffy doonas (duvets), or cotton quilts for the summer months. For the winter months, there is a 3.6kW storage heater in the living room and oil-filled column heaters in the bedrooms. The bathroom has a dual shower/bath, and a 120L electric water heater. We have a cot available upon request, for a baby or toddler. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use all facilities in the flat, including the wireless internet, flat-screen TV, DVD player, washing machine and tumble drier. There is line drying space downstairs near the car park. The kitchenette is fully equipped for cooking (sink/stove/oven/fridge), and includes a microwave, toaster, blender, electric wok, rice cooker and espresso and plunger coffee pots. Interaction with GuestsI will be there to meet and greet guests - the flat is yours for the duration of your stay. The NeighborhoodHobart is a great little town, and the flat is within walking distance of museums and attractions such as the Salamanca markets and Sullivan's Cove (but note that the flat is situated on a steep hill.) Hot tip! If you are visiting the Museum of New and Old Art (MONA) take the ferry from Sullivan's Cove - in busy times, you go straight to the front of the entrance queue. On Sunday mornings there is a great farmers' market at the corner of Elizabeth and Brisbane Streets, just down the hill from the flat; excellent Tassie produce, but also hot food and good coffee. Tasmania is a small island, so much of it is accessible as day trips by car from Hobart. If you are going to hire a vehicle, I strongly recommend that you bring (or rent) a GPS (SatNav), not least because Hobart has a lot of one-way streets. If you are walking, the grid street layout makes navigation easy. I will provide a list of cafes and restaurants that we have eaten at, with a thumbnail reviews - guests are invited to add to the list for the benefit of future guests. Hobart weather is changeable, so bring a range of clothing. As we say down here, "If you don't like the Tasmanian weather, just wait ten minutes..." And be sure to bring sunscreen! Our air is so clear and clean that the UV level can be extreme. Getting AroundThe flat has a nice view because it is near the top of a hill. If you are young and fit, this won't be a problem - however if your legs have seen a few decades you may find it challenging! It is on the first floor, so we regret the flat is not suitable for people who are unable to manage a flight of stairs. There is off-street, carport parking for one vehicle. The central bus depot is a couple of blocks away (650m), down the hill. Airporter Hobart runs a taxi-bus shuttle service from the airport which is cost effective for one or two people; for three or more, a taxi is cheaper and more convenient. If you are making a flying visit, you can hire a small car for a day for about the same cost as taxi fares to and from the airport. Other Things to NoteWe provide coffee, tea and instant coffee (sufficient for a couple of days), and a complimentary 1L milk (please specify preference for full-fat/skim/soy/lactose-free etc.) If you will be arriving late in the evening, we'll provide some breakfast so you don't have to go foraging early next morning. For longer term guests, we will change your bed linen and towels weekly. Check-in / check-out times are very relaxed, we're happy to work around your needs UNLESS there is a clash with incoming or departing guests; in that case, we reserve the right to give you timely notice to check out by 10am and check in no earlier than 2pm.

Visitors are encouraged to make themselves at home in the cottage and sunny rear courtyard. Written information is also provided about local attractions. A map outlines useful places to know about and visit locally. The NeighborhoodWest Hobart is an inner city neighbourhood and is made up mainly of old interesting houses. It has a lovely community feeling and is quite safe. There are parks, cafes and an excellent grocer/smallgoods shop. Knocklofty Terrace (a large expanse of beautiful bush land) is in walking distance on the hill behind and an excellent children's park just a few doors down. Please let me know if you will be needing the sofa bed so it can be prepared. If the booking is for 2 people but one is using the sofa bed, there will be a small additional charge to cover the cost of laundering the linen. Guest AccessGuests have a key code access to come and go as they please and are encouraged to make themselves at home in the cottage and sunny rear courtyard. If you're looking for a new ultra modern high-rise apartment, we are not for you. Inclusions: Your rate includes flexible early check in and late check out (when available), initial tea and fresh coffee supplies, your choice of milk (regular, skim, soy etc). Some breakfast items, seasonal fruit, a sweet treat and all linen. People who stay for 5 nights or more recieve a complimentary bottle of Tassie wine, cheese and crackers as well as the initial supplies. Facilities: Our building is listed as 'Significant Architecture of Tasmania' but behind the 40's art-deco facade is your modern Studio Apartment in a convenient ground floor garden location. Double glazing ensures maximum warmth and minimum noise. *Please be aware that the apartment building does not have onsite parking. There is 2 hr metered and non metered (weekdays) parking directly adjacent to the property. Weekend parking is free and un-timed. The separate kitchenette has facilities for light meal preparation; you have a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, electric frypan and steamer, crockery, cutlery and glassware. *Please note there are no hotplates. The bathroom has a toilet, shower, toiletries, a hairdryer and a heated towel rail. Usually only when the main bed room is booked for 2 guests then another separate bedroom with a double bed is available for another 1 guest. The exception -you will need to inform me of the need for an additional room if there is only 2 guests in total but want separate rooms. By doing this I am attempting to keep the cleaning costs and the overall rate down for guests. Hope this makes sense but please communicate if unclear. Car parking:As the house is on the edge of the CBD (which brings all sorts of benefits to guests of course) , there are parking meters outside house. (8:30AM-6:00PM). Free two hour zones are in adjacent streets. And all day free parking within walking distance. Free parking during weekend and after business hours. The owner whilst he has never found parking a problem, has negotiated with the HCC to obtain a temporary visitor parking permit for guests to park their car free all day in 2 hour zone.(only zone 11) please indicate if you need this permit. This is free service for guests if you are staying more than 1 day - a $20 deposit ( refundable on return of permit ) is required if your stay is only for one night. It is a very comfortable three bedroom one bathroom property that is located in a quiet area of central Hobart that has an interesting residential and commercial mix of properties. Directly opposite EightyThree, Templo, one of Hobart's best (and smallest) restaurants has just opened, booking in advance is usually recommended. EightyThree it is only a 10 minute walk to the city centre, 15 minute walk to the waterfront and 10 minutes to the North Hobart restaurant strip. Built in 1900, this Federation beauty is full of character and charm. The refit delivers a blend of contemporary and character furniture and fixtures, whilst retaining a sense of style and comfort. Most rooms retain original fireplaces and timber work. You enter the property into the nice wide entrance hall with Tasmanian Oak floors, off to the right is the formal dining room, the contemporary grey walls high-light the beautiful white painted skirting boards, architraves and mantle. This room also contains a king single day bed. Further down the hall on the right, the kitchen features a walk in pantry, microwave, full fridge, dishwasher, the electric oven has been inserted into the original fire place and has a gas cooktop. The large stainless steel work bench and breakfast bar is the perfect place to cook up a storm or relax with a drink. The bench faces the glass door which connects through to the sunny, private deck area. The deck then leads through to the undercover off street park, ensuring parking is never an issue. The parking space has a 185cm clearance. The Kitchen also connects with the comfortable lounge area which has a beautiful big picture window and Tasmanian Oak window seat. The laundry is tucked under the stairs in the hallway and contains a sink, washing machine and clothes dryer. Upstairs off the first landing is the main bedroom with queen bed. Again, this room features a fireplace with a beautiful white timber mantle, skirting boards and architraves, it is a quiet relaxing space. At the foot of the bed is a flat screen television mounted on the wall that separates the bed area from the large walk in wardrobe. Out to the second landing and you find the second and third bedrooms, the first with a comfortable double bed and walk in robe, the second has a double bed and a king single bed as well as a freestanding wardrobe. The landing has a study desk and storage. Also off this landing is a separate toilet with hand basin and the contemporary main bathroom that contains the vanity and shower over the bath. The house has electric panel heaters throughout and a new heat pump (reverse cycle air conditioner for those from the Northern States) in the living/kitchen area which enables you to keep warm and comfortable through out the colder months and cool on the warmer days. Please remember that you are staying in a home and not a hotel, a lot of care and consideration has gone into making it a pleasant place for you and for future guests to enjoy. Guests are expected to respect the property and its contents and to leave it similar to how they found it - clean and tidy. Please do your dishes or put them in the dishwasher and start it before you head off, if you have made a mess, please make an effort to tidy a little, as you would if you were staying with friends or family. I have tried my best to create a warm homely environment for you to enjoy, I sincerely hope you enjoy the space and it helps make your Hobart experience enjoyable. Altamont House was constructed around 1854 and is heritage listed. The accommodation is on the ground level. The property comfortably accommodates 4 people although there is an additional foldaway bed available for a 5th guest (no additional charge for a child under the age of 3). The Luxury room is a spacious room and includes a writing desk and hans wegner designer chair. along with a french style reading chair with ottoman. The Classic room is furnished with antique items. Please advise if this room is required. Both rooms have comfortable queen size beds with electric blankets fitted. For those travelling with young children we also offer a portacot and highchair along with a selection of toys and puzzles at no additional cost. There is a wood heater located in the living room which warms the whole space. This area also has a heat pump. The lounge area has a 40 inch television and DVD player, there are a selection of DVD's for you to choose from. The accommodation does not have a fully equipped kitchen but you will find a toaster, microwave, kettle and small fridge, along with a Nespresso coffee machine for that caffeine hit before a day of sight seeing. There are many cafe and restaurants close by. Continental breakfast provisions are supplied. This includes fresh sour dough bread, local spreads, yoghurt, seasonal fruit, cereal and juice, along with tea and coffee. We are available to assist guests as and when required. We understand that some guests will prefer to have their privacy and we respect that. The NeighborhoodWhilst enjoying your stay with us you will appreciate being close to all that the city of Hobart has to offer. The North Hobart restaurant strip is approximately a 10-15 minute walk and here you will find a variety of dining options to choose from. Alternatively you can make your way in the other direction to experience Salamanca and the dock area, 15-20 minutes walking time. If travelling with young children there are some fantastic parks to explore. A favourite is the 'train park". Located on the corner of Hill and Warwick Streets. On Sunday mornings it is only a short stroll to the Farmgate market in Bathurst Street where you will find loads of sweet and savoury treats and other local produce The guide book highlights some of the many cafes and restaurants close by Getting AroundShould you have a car, there is off street parking available. Public transport is also near by. The airport shuttle has a drop off/pick up point at the bottom of the hill on Harrington St. Other Things to NoteFor those who stay with us for 3 or more nights you will receive a complimentary bottle of premium Tasmanian wine Altamont House is positioned on a steep part of Patrick Street. If intending on walking most places please be aware that the last section (50 metres) of footpath is quite an incline. This steepness can effect access to the driveway for some, but not all drivers. There is no issue if you choose to park on the street. As the accommodation is on the lower level of our home (and it is a lovely old home) there is the possibility that you may at times hear us moving around. We are concious of keeping this noise to a minimum.
