In the immediate vicinity you will find restaurants, bars and a very fine bakery/patisserie. A spectacular ten foot aquarium separates the lounge and media room.                 This comfortable, self-catering studio apartment is in one of three low-rise buildings set amid tropical gardens in a quiet location five minutes' walk from Holetown, west coast of Barbados. Inside we offer a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower, kingsize or twin beds with bedside tables, ceiling and stand-alone fans, dining area and other seating. This is a studio apartment, so there is no separate sleeping area. A cot/small fold-down bed is available for a child if necessary. There is wireless internet access. Games and books are there for your enjoyment, as well as a CD player and TV/DVD. Outside you can put your feet up and relax with a drink on the patio while enjoying the tropical breezes and watching the comings and goings in the gardens. We always eat our meals on the patio, but there is a dining table inside if you prefer. Holetown offers a mix of eclectic restaurants for those who don't want to do their own catering. The garden is equipped with loungers, and there is a central seating area where guests gather to talk about their day. After Audrey's retirement we were very fortunate to add Meschell to our staff as housekeeper; Meschell can make sure there are a few basic supplies available in the fridge for when you arrive. Harry has been around Art Studios for many years and is responsible for the gardens and any odd jobs that need doing. Daily maid service is included. Just a few seconds' walk away from Art Studios there is direct access to the lovely Sandpiper and Settlers beach to the north, and Discovery Bay beach to the south. Bus stops are located nearby, or for those who are renting a car there is free parking. The west coast has been recently renovated, so the new boardwalks make it easy to stroll further along the coast and choose where you will swim the next day. The apartment is about 5 minutes' walk north of Holetown, a small but lively town on the main north-south road along the 'platinum' west coast. Holetown offers banking facilities, taxis, car rental, Internet cafe, Post Office, excellent supermarket, shops (take your passport for duty-free shopping), bars and restaurants. Elegant dining, curry, pizza, Bajan cuisine and fast food are all available. Nearby Limegrove is a new, 10-acre 'lifestyle centre' with boutiques, restaurants, bars, gourmet foods, an art gallery, cinema and spa. If your cup of tea is sports, then you might join the fans gathered to watch football, rugby or cricket on satellite TV at Surfside, a Holetown beach bar. Buses are frequent, so if you decide not to rent a car there is no problem visiting Bridgetown, the bustling capital of the island, or getting to Oistins on the south coast for the Friday night fish fry. In fact, thanks to a pioneering guest who shared her information with us we can provide details of how to travel by bus to reach most of the Barbados attractions, e.g. Flower Forest, Harrison's Cave, Andromeda Gardens, Bathsheba, St. Nicholas Abbey. To the north of Art Studios and a short walk along the beach is Folkestone Marine Park, which features a museum/aquarium, tennis courts, picnic tables, children's playground and excellent snorkeling around the inshore reef. Your daily walk along the beach could take you past Folkestone and the resorts of Coral Reef, Colony Club and Glitter Bay, up to the Lone Star Cafe for a cooling drink and, perhaps, a sight of the turtles at feeding time. Mullin's Bay is a little further up. The swimming is completely safe on this coast, and a variety of watersports are available for those who want to be active. For the golf enthusiast, Sandy Lane and the Royal Westmoreland golf courses are located in the parish of St. James.

Just beyond this complex is WestMall with banks, department stores, gyms, pharmacies . . . . and a full size supermarket. The area is bounded on the north by a recreation ground - or commons- that is used by Maple Cricket Club and the formidable Trents Football Club so there is an abundance of excercise facilities as well - Lee practices his golf swings there almost every day when it's quiet.
