The Space

This small single room includes a top quality single bed with cotton linens and towels, bedside cabinet and lamp, towel rail and a wardrobe. The room overlooks the rear garden and gets the afternoon and evening sun in summer. Breakfast is not included because sometimes guests just want a place to lay their heads and be off promptly the next day with no extra costs. Guest Access

The shared bathroom which is just a quick step across the landing has a deep bath and an over head power shower. There is a shaving point and mirror. The second toilet and wash hand basin is situated downstairs. The kitchen is available for preparing a simple meal, there is also a microwave. The garden terrace has seating and is a lovely place to sit out and relax in the evening, weather permitting. There is usually room for one guest car on the driveway or parking on the road nearby.

Interaction with Guests

I can help with local arrangements if required and my guests are welcome to be as sociable as much or as little as they wish to be. Please note I have a dog. He is a young English Springer Spaniel who is good natured, full of fun and likes to interact with guests.

The Neighborhood

My house is situated in a small, quiet residential development, built in the 1980s, and within a short walk of Odiham's picturesque Georgian high street. The local area is surrounded by rolling green hills and farm land to the south. The high street is a place to drink and eat and shop for groceries, flowers, gifts as well as browse for vintage items for the home. On Friday mornings there is a street market where you can buy fresh bread, cheeses, olives, fruit and vegetables. The local Co-op also sells delicious fresh croissants every morning but you need to get there early before the locals hoover them all up! There are plenty of interesting places to explore nearby and lots of good walking especially along the Basingstoke canal and the surrounding countryside. If you prefer to explore the canal by boat, John Pinkerton and Galleon Marine hire out different kinds of vessels including narrow boats, row boats, canoes and kayaks. Odiham has a very pro-active community with a number of social and cultural events taking place on certain evenings including screening current films, live theatre and opera. Several local gardens are open to the public at different times of the year. RAF Odiham is home to the Chinook helicopter and pilot training. There is a 25 metre, rectangular swimming pool on the air base which is open to civilians at certain times. I have a timetable and contact information for my guests. The pool use is free for ex-service personnel or £4 for adults. Getting there by car takes about 10 minutes, alternatively it's a 20 minute walk across the fields. The walk is worth the effort as you get to see a lovely south view from Odiham across the Hampshire downs. In 2015 Odiham hosted the Magna Carta 800th celebrations. Read on if you're interested in the local history and why Odiham featured in the 800th Magna Carta celebrations. "King John rode from Odiham to meet baronial leaders at Runnymede on 10th June 1215, agreeing the Articles of Barons that day and Magna Carta five days later. Eleanor, his youngest daughter, came to live here and was one of the key players in events leading to the first Parliament with elected representatives called by her husband Simon de Montfort in 1265. This was the forerunner of today’s House of Commons."

Getting Around

There is a local but infrequent bus service during the day operating between Basingstoke and Alton as well as several taxi companies. There are two rail stations (Hook and Winchfield) within a couple of miles for access to Basingstoke, London or Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton airports. London is about an hour by car or train. Access to the M3 and other major roads is close by.

Other Things to Note

I follow airbnb protocols and do not accept third party bookings for insurance (host as well as guest protection) and security reasons. Every booking must have his/her own profile and approved airbnb verification. The space is not suited for someone who needs a base to work from during the day or for someone who works night shifts. The accommodation is offered on a night time stopover only.

Place's rules
Please do not take meals or store food in the guest bedroom. Remove outdoor shoes before going upstairs. Please do not request a booking for a third party as I will have to decline.

About Linda
Visit Profile
Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.
