The SpaceYou'll be staying in 1 of 3 bedrooms that are available for rent. This listing is for bedroom "C" which is a private room with a twin size bed and carpet throughout.
If more than one person is staying, a second bed can be set up in the space. Guest AccessYou'll be staying in one of three bedrooms in the upstairs of a split-level home.
There's a front entrance or you can use the kitchen entrance to enter the primary level of the home. Because we rent rooms in the downstairs, other guests "may" hear you walking, talking, etc. when at home - please be considerate of them. We say "may" because the bedroom is on the opposite side of the main hallway.
You'll have access to a full bathroom that will be shared if there's another guest staying with us at the same time.
We ask you do not enter our bedroom, kitchen, or the main living room area as we would like to leave that area free to entertain our visitors.
Instead, you'll have access to the downstairs of our home:
A wide hallway contains a mini couch and two separate desks that are available for your use.
There's also a Den/Pool Room available for recreation.
In the Den, you will find an elliptical machine for your morning exercise. You will also have access to a flat screen TV, DirecTV with basic programming, a VHS player, and a DVD player. We have a wide variety of movies and shows available - from Disney to Seinfeld to Mars Attacks to Saving Private Ryan.
Downstairs we provide a microwave and a small refrigerator. We will keep an assortment of water, juice drinks, celestial seasonings teas, instant coffee, creamer, yogurt, danishes/muffins for your enjoyment. We will also provide plastic utensils, mugs, and paper towels. Please let us know if there's anything that needs replenishing while you stay with us. Interaction with GuestsWe can interact with you as little or as much as you would like. That is up to you.
We will stay out of your room and the downstairs section of the home except to replenish supplies, maintenance of furnace/water heater, or to perform cleaning after a guest leaves. The NeighborhoodOak Mountain is located 20 miles south of Birmingham just off of I-65. Oak Mountain State Park is within walking distance from our home and is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. With close to 10,000 acres of picturesque woodlands and several lakes, it is Alabama's largest state park and offers a wide range of activities. Popular restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations and more are all within a few miles of the park entrance.
The park has everything for a great outing. All of the lakes at Oak Mountain hold bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Double Oak Lake offers swimming at a man-made beach, rentals of pedal boats, kayaks and canoes, and fishing is allowed. There are 15 picnic pavilions and over 50 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The Peavine Trail leads to a 65 ft. tall spring-fed waterfall.
Bike lanes marked on the roads for those that don't want to trek through the woods. And for the extreme biker there is a BMX track to get your adrenaline going! If that's still not enough excitement you can gear-up and catch some air off of ramps at FlipSide cable wakeboard park at the eastern end of Beaver Lake. For those that want a more relaxed pace there's a golf course with a pro shop and a petting farm that kids always enjoy
Also within the park, The Oak Mountain Interpretive Center hosts a display of native species of animals, plants, and information on local geography while the Alabama Wildlife Rehabilitation Center provides care to injured wild animals as well as promoting public awareness of native wildlife. Getting AroundOur home is located in a suburban setting in rural North Shelby County. There is no public transportation available but we may have a vehicle available for rent when you arrive - please check with us if you require use of a vehicle. Other Things to NoteWe both leave for work before 8:00 a.m. and arrive after 5:30, so we won't be available during business hours, but are just a phone call away if you need anything.
If you arrive during these hours we have a key-box so you may let yourself into your room and common area.
We have a very friendly outside dog called Napoleon and an outside cat that never go in the house.
