The SpaceThe Pear Orchard Lodge sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its wineries, fruit orchards and local artisans. Our little farmlet includes the Lodge, the Summer Studio, a small pear orchard, a pond, some paddocks for grazing animals and our farmhouse. At the moment we have some cows, sheep and lots of different poultry. The Summer Studio is just opposite the entrance to the farmhouse and close to the Lodge. It is a converted shed with original barn-style door, exposed rafters and recycled rimu detailing. The studio overlooks the potager garden, the home orchard and the hen house in the distance. The room has a built-in double bed and rustic ensuite with toilet and basin. It offers an authentic farm experience: listen to the farm animals and enjoy the rooster's wake up call. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use the bathroom in the Lodge for showers or a relaxing bath and are also encouraged to use the spacious living area and large covered verandah at the Lodge. Unfortunately the WiFi signal does not reach to the Summer Cabin, so you will have to use WiFi in the lodge, where it is free and unlimited. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the studio. Guests are welcome to self-cater and use the modern kitchen in the Lodge and the outdoor barbeque. Alternatively we can offer breakfast if requested for a small additional charge. Our breakfast options generally include some of our own produce, such as pear juice, eggs, jams and honey as well as our freshly baked bread. Having two small children ourselves, we are family-friendly and can provide a portacot if you are travelling with a baby. Meet our friendly chickens, ducks (perhaps even sample some of their eggs for breakfast!) and geese, enjoy having fantail follow you amongst the pear trees, spot our local kingfisher, wood pigeons and birds of prey! There are lots of quail about, the odd pheasant and of course our resident paradise ducks on the pond. Interaction with GuestsWe are very happy to assist with recommending tourism operators and helping with bookings. Please let us know what your interests are! The NeighborhoodA perfect base to explore the Top of the South and the Nelson region! Just outside Richmond, close to stunning beaches, great walking tracks and the famous Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail. Head out to enjoy the amazing views from the top of the Barnicoat Range - the track literally starts at our doorstep. Or head to the near Aniseed Valley for some great walks (day hikes as well as overnight options). Enjoy a day's cycling along the new Tasman Great Taste Trail - from our place, the trails lead through orchards towards the wineries of Brightwater and further out to Wakefield, or along Rabbit Island and the Moutere coast to Mapua, or even right into Nelson. If you're feeling lazy, have a relaxing day at the beach or stop at a local winery, restaurant or cafe at Mapua Wharf, Upper Moutere or in the Waimea Plains. Richmond, our local town, is just 5min away and offers all the daily conveniences: supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and shops. Within a radius of 20 minutes drive you can reach lovely Nelson with its famous Farmers Market, art galleries, cafes and restaurants, and heritage buildings, the stunning beaches of Rabbit Island, amazing walking tracks starting from the Aniseed Valley, arty Mapua, Ruby Bay and Tasman, as well as historic Wakefield and Brightwater, the German village of Sarau (Upper Moutere) and Motueka. Another 20 minutes take you to Kaiteriteri, the Abel Tasman National Park or to St. Arnaud and the pristine Nelson Lakes. Even the Marlborough Sounds are just about 1 hour's drive from our house. Other Things to NoteNot for very tall people! The bed is a built-in double bed, so you won't be able to hang you feet out over the end of the bed. If you are very tall, we recommend booking one of our lodge beds instead. Please note this is a converted shed so it is quite small and rustic. This means that the sounds of farm life (e.g. roosters) are louder than in the lodge (where there is double glazing etc). Most of our guests in the studio love its rustic nature, but please consider before booking - if you are more of a 'hotel' person then this may not be the room for you!

The SpaceOur farmlet sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, just outside Richmond, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its orchards, wineries and incredible produce. It includes paddocks where we graze a few cows and a number of lambs, the home orchard, with a small variety of fruit trees and home to our free range chickens, a gully and wetland area with native bush and bird life, a big pond, loved by our ducks and geese and of course the pear orchard. The lodge can accommodate up to 18 people in 7 bedrooms, as follows: 3 luxurious bedrooms with king sized beds with ensuite bathrooms and balconies 3 bedrooms with king sized beds which share a family bathroom (including massive bath) 1 bunk room with 2 sets of 3 bunks. The king beds can all be switched to 2 single beds, according to preference. There is also a separate guest toilet downstairs. The lodge has a unique modern kitchen made from recycled timber, which opens onto a large dining area with huge farmhouse table and a woodburner for the cooler nights. The kitchen/dining opens onto a large sunny verandah and a great garden area. There is a large 6 burner barbeque on the verandah, and the verandah is the perfect spot to laze in the sun on a beanbag. The lodge has Wifi throughout and a stereo in the kitchen/dining area. There is a converted hay barn behind the lodge which has a table football, for keen fans. For kids, we have an outdoor play area with trampoline, playhouse, slide, sand pit and rope swing. Lots of indoor and outdoor toys are available. There are plenty of bicycles (including 2 with child seats) and we are very close to the cycle trail which extends throughout the region. While purposely rough and rustic on the outside, the lodge building follows clean lines and is designed to a high spec inside. The design is inspired by the local vernacular and refined to blend in with other outbuildings around the farm. The building's proportions and exterior interpret the typical old barns seen in the Tasman area with their ramshackle patchwork of old corrugated iron, hand-made carpentry detailing and overhanging roof lines. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to self-cater and use the shared spacious lodge kitchen, dining area (with a log burner) and outdoor barbeque. The SpaceThe Pear Orchard sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, just outside Richmond, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its orchards, wineries and incredible produce. The farmlet comprises an orchard of approximately 1,200 pear trees, paddocks housing a few cows and lambs and a large pond. The newly built Pear Orchard Lodge has seven bedrooms, a large open plan kitchen and dining area for shared use, a large covered verandah and a number of bathrooms. The Lodge is double-glazed and insulated to a high standard, utilises solar water heating technology and an efficient log burner, heating the building with renewable resources grown on the farm. Energy-wise appliances and light bulbs reduce the power consumption even further. This bedroom is situated on the ground floor of the lodge. The warm and sunny room is larger than our standard rooms with shared bathroom and has a private balcony with idyllic views across regenerating bush, our pond and the Waimea Plains. In the backdrop you can see the mountain ranges of the Kahurangi National Park. The room is accessible to wheelchair users and an accessible bathroom is right down the hallway. Also see our listing for other rooms, including rooms with private balcony, ensuite bathroom, a bunkroom and the separate sleep out/cabin. Guest AccessWe offer fresh farm produce at the lodge, such as free range eggs, organic vegetable from our garden, home baked bread and pear juice. Guests are welcome to self-cater and use the shared spacious lodge kitchen, dining area (with a log burner) and outdoor barbeque. Alternatively we can offer breakfast if requested for a small additional charge. Our breakfast options generally include some of our own produce, such as pear juice, jams and honey as well as our freshly baked bread. One of the shared lodge bathrooms has a luxurious bath, blissful after a busy day out exploring! Our hay barn, next to the lodge building doubles as a covered play area with a football table. Laundry services are available. WiFi access is free. Our guests are welcome to explore the farm. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the farmhouse across the driveway, so we are always available if you need any assistance. We can issue tickets for Wilsons Abel Tasman and Sea Shuttle and can advise on lots of things to do in the area. The NeighborhoodA perfect base to explore the Top of the South and the Nelson region! Just outside Richmond, close to stunning beaches, great walking tracks and the famous Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail. Getting AroundHead out to enjoy the amazing views from the top of the Barnicoat Range - the track literally starts at our doorstep. We can organise airport pick ups, collect you from the Richmond bus depot if you are travelling without a car or arrange pick ups/drop offs to Hackett Picnic Area if you are hiking the Te Araroa Trail. We offer free bikes to guests, for exploring the local area. Other Things to NotePlease note that you will share The Pear Orchard Lodge with other guests. This includes the kitchen, BBQ and dining area where guests often get together the big farm table in the evening. Most of our guests love this about the lodge, however if you are more of a 'hotel' person, this may not be the option for you. Please ask prior to your booking if you would like to stay with children.
