The SpaceIn an idyllic location on the impressive and beautiful peninsula of The Eastern Shore and overlooking the Sea of Abaco and Sugar Loaf Cay. The closest thing to being on an island without the need for a boat! 'On the Rocks' is just two miles from the town of Marsh Harbour and the ferry to Guana Cay and within walking distance to the Hope Town and Man of War ferries. The town has a good selection of shops, supermarkets and medical facilities, all staffed by friendly and helpful people. Car and Boat Rentals are available locally and there is a good taxi service to and from the International Airport just 20 minutes away. Golf is available at Treasure Cay and Winding Bay and divers are serviced by two well established Dive Shops in the town. The cottage is a well equipped, cool and comfortable home. One can walk, run and swim in complete safety along Eastern Shore whilst those not so energetically inclined can read and lie in the sun and relax on the large deck. An ideal haven for painters or writers who feel like a change of workplace. Those interested in bird watching (the feathered variety that is) can attempt to see the Abaco Parrots on forays into the surrounding countryside. The view of sunrise and sunset from the deck is spectacular and the constant activity of the passing boats by day or sitting under the stars at night means there is always something to capture one's imagination. Guest AccessDirections from Marsh Harbour International Airport to “On the Rocks” Eastern Shores, Marsh Harbour, Abaco. If hiring a car from Seastar Rentals their office is nearby to the right. Turn right coming out of the terminal and exit the car park. Seastar is located the far side of the roundabout on the left hand side. You will see cars parked on grass and the office, a wooden building up on stilts. You will enter a dual carriageway and reach a roundabout with an Abaco parrot in the middle of it, in approximately a quarter of a mile. Take the second exit left heading towards town on Great Abaco Highway, passing Abaco Neem and Pine Woods Nursery on your right. Travel straight on for about 2 miles. The road name changes to Dan Mackey Boulevard at cross roads with a Texaco Gas Station on the left. Proceed straight on until you reach the one and only working traffic light in Marsh Harbour, less than a mile. Turn right onto Queen Elizabeth Highway. The road proceeds about half a mile and at Mermaid Plaza bears round to the left to a T Junction, looking out over the harbour. Turn right onto Bay Street. Proceed along Bay Street till in about a mile you will pass Albury’s Ferry Terminal on your right, after which you will enter The Eastern Shore, an unmade up road. “On the Rocks” is approximately three quarters of a mile down the road. It is the last house before a gate across the road on the left hand side, grey single story with green shutters. It is only the fifth home on your left hand side. It is preferable if you reverse into the parking space on the town side of the cottage, left hand side when looking at it. You might wish to stop off at Maxwells, an excellent supermarket on your way to the cottage. After you have turned right at the traffic light you will see a large blue sign on your right. Turn right up that road for a ¼ mile and you will come to it on your left. Interaction with GuestsBeaches & Ferries Abaco Eastern Shore, Marsh Harbour There is a small beach up the road from the cottage, you will pass it as you drive down and go over a concrete road on the right. Mermaid Reef, Pelican Shores, Marsh Harbour There is a nice area in Marsh Harbour called Mermaid Reef which is located on Pelican Shores. You turn right off the main road into town just before the Abaco Beach Resort, which is on the left, at Lignum Vitae and it goes up a hill. Follow the road round and you will come to it on your right. It is very good for snorkelling. There is a good fish shop on this road at the boat yard at the bottom of the hill. Treasure Cay Go North out of Marsh Harbour to Treasure Cay; it is one of the top 10 beaches in the world. It is about a 40 minute drive. There are most enjoyable beach bar/restaurants at both ends of the beach. Little Harbour – Pete’s Pub One that we really enjoy is Little Harbour about 30 minutes South of Marsh Harbour from the airport round-a-bout, with the large parrot in the middle. After about 10 minutes from the round-a-bout you take a left off the main road sign posted Pete’s Pub and then another left 5 minutes further on, again signposted and follow a rocky road for 2 miles. It is a beautiful horseshoe bay with Pete’s Pub right on the beach. The Atlantic Ocean is on the other side of the hill. Ferries You catch the ferry to Hope Town, Elbow Cay from half a mile up the road from the cottage. Hope Town is very quaint with painted cottages, nice harbour and again Atlantic Ocean over the hill and a number of bars and restaurants. There is also the ferry to Man of War Cay which Again is very quaint and with a different sort of interest. The ferry to Guana Cay goes from the Conch Inn in town. This Cay has nice beaches and amongst others a fun bar called Nippers. Walk, Jog, Run If you are looking for some exercise while staying at the cottage there is a very pleasant 5 mile walk, jog, run from the cottage to the Port. It takes you up to the beginning of town where the restaurants are and along the harbour front to the Port and back. You just keep going straight along the harbour road which takes you past some quaint cottages. Other Things to NoteHousehold garbage is collected very early on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

A 10' x 12' deck just outside the dining room also overlooks the Abaco Sea, Lubbers Quarters (island), and in the far distance about 2-1/2 miles away, the main Abaco Island -- this deck faces west for catching the setting sun. There is also a back deck that has a small octagon-shaped table and chairs, and here is located the BBQ grill (charcoal -- available is available in the Hope Town grocery stores). A 4-person golf cart is provided at no charge for travel while staying at the Storrhaven house, subject to availability. Down at Tahiti Beach, we have a private boat slip that can be exclusively used for your rental boat during your stay -- no slip charge. Tahiti Beach is considered one of the 10 best beaches in all of the 700 islands of the Bahamas, so picturesque that weddings are sometimes held on this beach. The owner/caretaker stays just 300' from the house, far enough away to provide you privacy (shielded by trees and shrubs between the two houses), but close enough for you to call for any questions about your stay. He has 45 years experience in this part of Abaco, and is available 24/7 to help you. He can provide you with information about the area for such things as where to eat out, where to snorkel, where to find "private" beaches, where to fish, hazardous boating areas, where to get food supplies, church services (2+), boat rentals, bike rentals, kayak rentals, island hopping, etc. Two fishing rods/reels/lines are provided (bring your own hooks/leaders/lures), and a wide assortment of adult and children swim fins, masks, snorkels, and if renting a boat, life preservers (check for availability prior to your stay). The Storrhaven house is 7 minutes by boat from the quaint little town of Hope Town, its beautiful circular harbor, and its famous candy-striped lighthouse (details in next section). The town, harbor, and lighthouse of Hope Town are so picturesque that they are pictured on the back of the Bahamian $10 bill. There is a paved road going from the Storrhaven house to Hope Town. The house is in a private area (no businesses allowed), so it is very quiet, peaceful, and in an area where the surrounding home owners take pride in their flowers, trees, and gardens. To get to Tahiti Beach, it is a 10 second golf cart ride (60 second walk) down a paved road (almost no traffic on road). Most people opt to just walk to the beach. Nearest restaurant is about a 5 minute golf cart drive away, and a second restaurant 7 minutes away. Nearest grocery store is 10 minutes by golf cart, or 7 minutes by boat. Bahamian money exchange? No problem. Just use USA dollars. Same with USA (coin) change. Bahamian dollar is at par with the USA dollar, so there is no exchange rate complexity (where, unlike other foreign countries, you lose money when you buy foreign dollars, then lose money again when you have to convert them back into USA dollars -- you get "killed" twice, and what a hassle). So, if you buy a $3 item in the store, pay with a USA $20 bill, you might get back a $10 Bahamian bill, a $5 USA bill, and one $1 Bahamian and one $1 USA bill in change. Ask a store if they have any Bahamian 1 cent pieces -- they are a little smaller than the USA penny, and have a beautiful starfish on one side -- nice to give to kids (or keep yourself) as a souvenir. Their dimes are also neat -- scalloped on the edge. Upon your arrival to (and departure from) Hope Town, we provide a complimentary pickup service from Hope Town via a 8 passenger SUV. In addition, we will provide two round trips to Hope Town (or any place south of Hope Town on Elbow Cay) at no charge. Additional trips are available at a reasonable rate. Note that you have unlimited free use of the 4 person golf cart during your stay with us. We charge NO FlipKey booking fee, no processing fee, no fee for use of your credit card. The breakage deposit is refunded in full 10 days after the end of your stay, sent to you directly by FlipKey, assuming no damage/breakage/loss. Children under 2 years of age at time of booking are free, i.e., they are not included as a "guest" when calculating your rental rate. Base rental rate is for 1-3 guests; additional guests staying with you for your total length of your stay are $10/guest/night for each person above the 3 initial guests. FlipKey provides this calculation automatically when you enter the number of guests staying at the Storrhaven house. We review FlipKey's invoice that they send us, and we (the owners of Storrhaven) will review FlipKey's invoice before it is sent to you and make the appropriate, i.e., lower cost, adjustment to that invoice to give you the best advantage of discounts available for multiple weeks and/or fractional weeks of your stay. If you have guests who are coming after the start of your stay and/or are leaving before the end of your stay, the additional guest(s) rate(s) are: $10/guest/night. The additional guest charge can be settled by cash or check on the last day of your stay. Our additional guest rate is one of the lowest in the Abaco region. Discounts from the one week rate for multiple weeks of your stay: 2 weeks: $100/week discount for EACH of the two weeks; 3 weeks: $150/week discount for EACH of the three weeks; 4 or more weeks: $250/week discount for EACH week of your stay. After the first week, partial weeks are prorated at 1/7th of the weekly rate per additional day (see below example). Note: multiple week discounts are not displayed in FlipKey's pricing, so just submit your booking request, and before receiving your final booking payment information, that is, before you've submitted you credit card information for the booking, we will automatically discount the appropriate multiple week discount and inform you of the final discounted rate on the invoice we send you. The term "weeks" means 7 nights. Examples of discounts: For example, if you book 3 guests for 2 weeks and 2 additional nights (16 nights), your rate would be: $1725 - $100/week discount = $1625 per week, then $1625 / 7 = $232 per extra night beyond the 2 weeks, so for 16 nights, the weekly discounted rate of $1625 x 2 weeks = $3250 + (2 nights x $232) = $3714 for 16 nights. To this example, if a 4th guest arrives and stays for 8 nights during the 16 night rental, that 4th guest rate would be $10/night x 8 nights = $80 for that 4th guest for their 8 nights stay with you -- $80 + $3714 = $3794 total. Storrhaven house is located in the private Dorros Cove area of Elbow Cay. This area is the southern most tip of Elbow Cay, about 3 miles from Hope Town. Tahiti Beach (10 second golf cart away from Storrhaven house) is a crescent shaped beach located here, considered one of the 10 best beaches of all of the 700 islands of the Bahamas. The area is quiet, very residential (no businesses), and most houses are on one+ acres of land. There is a private dock located at the northern end of Tahiti Beach for mooring your rental boat with capacity of 32' length, 10' beam, and an approximate 8' draft. Hope Town is a quaint village (2 main roads and several short-connecting cross roads; size: about 500' x 2000'), and here you'll find small shops, 6+ restaurants (most on or over the harbor waters), grocery stores (2), marina (for boat gas), lighthouse (you can climb up the spiral 101 steps to the top and "pop" out the small door to the walkway around the top of the lighthouse; great view + fun to see the mechanisms of how the lighthouse works; free admission), diving expeditions (1/2 and 1 day SCUBA and snorkeling trips), private fishing guides, etc. Using a small rental boat, you can travel relatively safely in the mostly calm inner waterway called the Abaco Sea. This Sea is about 2-5 miles wide (varies depending on what part of Abaco Island's eastern shore you are on) and about 30 miles long, with lots of little keys (called Cays in the Bahamas -- but pronounced "key") to visit and explore. There are two Bahamanian National Preserves (underwater preserves) located within 15 minute travel (by boat) from Tahiti Beach where snorkeling/diving is great. Snorkeling is also good around the Mermaid Islands (about 2 minutes from Tahiti Beach) and some beautiful coral heads (in about 6'-8' of water) in the northern part of Tilloo Cay (about 5 minutes from Tahiti Beach). This latter area is great for the inexperienced snorkeler as it is in shallow water (6'-8'), about 20' from shore, in the almost always glass-calm western side of Tilloo Cay. Down at the southern part of Tilloo Cay (the key directly south of Elbow Cay) is Tangerina Beach, a 2700' long beautiful white sand beach, extremely calm 99% of the time, shallow sandy bottom (2' - 4' deep -- great for younger children), and is almost always deserted (no homes here). 1 minute south of this beach is an area we call "Stingray Bay", where you'll usually see several stingrays in the shallow waters, then 3 minutes south of Tangerina Beach/Stingray Bay are the Pelican Cays. In the Pelican Cays, there is a beautiful 4' high flat-on-top white sand peninsula that is about 280' x 350' in size, has nice moderate waves on two sides (quite safe), and great beach combing especially for little sponges and shells. Nice place to "lounge" in the water for several hours, and young kids (5-10 years old) have great fun in the waves at the confluence of these waves coming in from the north & south ends of the Pelican Cay. We personally often spend several hours there at the Pelicans and several hours at the Tangerina Beach area on our own trips with our children and grandchildren (5-9 years old) -- a real favorite of ours. There are several marinas in the Marsh Harbour and Hope Town area where all types of boat rentals are available (15', 17', 22', 25', etc), and most will deliver to either of Hope Town's 2 Public Docks for your pickup. Please call for additional boat information. Any other questions, please ask. Information point: there is a large shell throughout this area called a CONCH which is both beautiful and is one of the foods you can eat (my favorite) as either Conch Fritters, Conch Burger, Conch Salad, or Conch Platter. Virtually every restaurant in the region offers Conch "something" on their menu. If you haven't had it before, it tastes very mild, very pleasant, so try it. Great fried, in a fritter batter, or even raw in a salad. Final note on CONCH: it is pronounced "KON-K" -- same pronunciation as "I just got a conk in the head by a falling coconut" (the "CH" is pronounced as a "K" when you say it). Collecting live conch shells is not allowed, but there are frequently large numbers of conch shells (no live animals inside) on the beaches and in the shallow waters in the local area, and these are allowed to be taken back to the USA in checked luggage (not in carry-on luggage). Besides being illegal to take live conch shells, its a HUGE process to get the live conch out of the shell, and is VERY stinky to do, so just take the empty dead ones, please. We provide a 4-person golf cart free to our guests, but if you need greater capacity, there are three+ golf cart rental places on Elbow Cay. Use of two free bicycles are allowed. Daily/weekly additional bicycle rentals as well as Kayak rentals (daily/weekly, delivered for you free to Tahiti Beach) are available in Hope Town. We will pick you up in Hope Town either by boat or by an 8-passenger SUV (either at no charge) at the beginning of your trip, and deliver you back to Hope Town at the end of your trip. The SUV is also available for 2 additional round trips per week during your stay at no charge on a 24/7 basis, with a small charge if you wish to utilize more than 2 round trips. We provide a driver for the SUV for these trips as it is restricted to be driven by the SUV owner, and no tipping please. The 4-person electric golf cart is available for you to drive.

Please scroll the photos up and down to see our beautiful cathedral ceilings! As a 26 year homeowner on nearby Elbow Cay, I always had a special feeling about Man O War Cay and wished I could become a 'MOW boy'. After selling my Elbow Cay home in 2009, I decided, despite advancing age, that I wanted to buy a cottage in the village, on MOW. We found one for sale called 'Low Overhead' and it had recently been renovated down to the studs. We figured it had been named 'Low Overhead' to emphasize that it would be inexpensive to maintain. It's pale yellow siding, blue metal roof, and white picket fence captivated us. When we arrived to see it we were very surprised to find that the ceiling height was 6'2' hence the real 'Low Overhead'. We bought it anyway and re-named it 'Lost and Found' and started renovations again with our caretaker Glenn Albury doing the work. We took out the second floor, put in beams to stiffen the cottage, and added a tongue and groove ceiling thus creating a wide open cathedral ceiling. We enlarged a storage room and made it into the master bedroom, a laundry room, and a bathroom with a large tiled shower (shower together and save water). We bought all new furniture, mattresses, bedding, linens and flat screen TVs for both bedrooms and the living room. We tiled all rooms and added a new central air conditioning unit. We have cable TV with the sports channels and internet service. The kitchen is very well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee maker and a new refrigerator. All this was new in 2013. The house has its own standby generator which runs everything when occasionally there is a power outage. Our golf cart is included and you may use our dock for your rental boat. ALL ABOUT MOW A clean and industrious island, we don't even let the garbage spend the night. Historically the boat building capital of the Bahamas and boat building and boat maintenance still play an important role. The harbourfront street is very interesting with marine businesses and workshops open to the street. The local people are religious, hard working, straight forward, and friendly. The whole atmosphere reminds one of life 50 years ago. After a day or two of exploring, you'll be wishing you lived here. Naturally the biggest attractions are the beaches and the clearest water you will ever see. These beaches run almost the whole length of the island and with their white sand are drop dead gorgeous. Once out of the village, the roads are sand as you wind your way past beautiful estates always with a view of the water. This is the Queen's Highway, barely wide enough for 2 golf carts to pass. Mid island you come to the 'Low Spot' where the island is about 15' wide. There is a beautiful beach on the calm side (Sea of Abaco) and the locals have built a gazebo there so that you can get out of the sun or have a picnic. It is highly recommended that you rent a boat and explore the Sea of Abaco which is protected and very interesting. STORES AND SHOPS There are 2 grocery stores. MOW Grocery on the upper street is the largest and has a complete stock of groceries and sundries. In addition the store usually has some baked snacks made by the local ladies. Albury's Grocery on the harbor is smaller but very complete and may just be the neatest store you ever see with not a can or bottle out of place. Shop at Joe's Studio for hats, T shirts, clothing, Books (many Bahamian), household furnishings and gifts. The Seaside Boutique sells Androsia fabric and clothes made from it. A must see is the Sailshop on the harbor at the edge of the village. The friendly ladies who work in this breeze swept building must have the best work environment in the world. Their canvas luggage, bags, and purses with the MOW logo are fabulous and guaranteed for life. RESTAURANTS AND FOOD MOW is a dry island and spirits cannot be purchased here. You can, however, purchase them in Marsh Harbour or on other islands and bring them here. You can bring them to the restaurants and they'll ice down your wine or provide mixers. The DOCK AND DINE restaurant is on the dock at Man O War Marina. Fresh fish, conch, and crawfish (lobster) is available and wonderful along with different meats. The same is available and also very good at the ISLANDER restaurant. Local ladies advertise take away lunches and dinners they cook at home with signs on the telephone poles- delicious! Last but not least is Miss Lola, a MOW institution who bakes wonderful Bahamian bread and cinnamon buns. She goes around selling from her golf cart. Try to resist her- I can't. TWO OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO ON MOW 1. Take your rental boat in the late afternoon or evening, with drinks and snacks of course, and slowly cruise the whole harbor and even the rest of the island. 2. After dinner have ice cream at the snack shop (milk shakes, malts, banana splits, and sundaes and very good ice cream). Interesting because many local families come down with kids in tow and its fun to listen and talk. WHAT TO DO NEARBY Explore the Sea of Abaco in your rental boat. It is about 10 to 15' deep with very few dangers. The clarity of the water will quickly help you pick out shallow areas. From MOW you can head north or south. Heading north there are many small islands at the edge of the ocean. The last one before Scotland Cay has a natural hot tub. Anchor off the beach at low to mid tide and you will find the pool at the rocks at the edge of the ocean. At high tide seawater comes into the sand bottom pool and as the tide lowers is captured and heated by the sun. What a wonderful place!!! Next north is Scotland Cay, a private island. At the north end is a lagoon which looks like the South Seas. Wonderful to anchor and swim. Just trim your motor and glide over the shallow bar. Next is Guana Cay with an interesting village and several restaurants. Guana is home to Nipper's, a very popular oceanfront bar and restaurant with 2 swimming pools. Their Sunday brunch featuring wild boar is well attended. Near the north end is Baker's Bay a new resort for the rich and famous and you. It has a golf course and marina. Feel free to tie up and have lunch or a drink at their dockside Tiki Hut. Go around the north end of the island and you will experience the most beautiful beach in the world. Stay between the beach and the reef. On a calm day you can venture to Green Turtle Cay, a most interesting island. Explore the village and then motor around to White Sound and have lunch at the G.T. Club or the Bluff house. There is much to see here and I've just skimmed the surface. A reef runs the whole Oceanside of these islands for those who like to snorkel or dive. One can also visit Treasure Cay with its fabulous beach and marina with restaurant and swimming pool. Going south from MOW, the next island is Elbow Cay and its village of Hope Town, famous for its red and white striped lighthouse. Interesting village with restaurants, shops, art galleries, etc. Take your boat right up to your table at the Harbour's Edge restaurant and do the same at Capn Jacks. About 1 mile south of Hope Town is Firefly Resort. Beautiful open air dining. Try their lobster fritters. Down in White Sound is the Abaco Inn with swimming pool on the ocean and good food. Also in White Sound is Sea Spray Resort also with pool and good food. South end of island is Tahiti Beach a great spot for a swim. Further south is Lubbers Quarters Cay with 2 popular restaurants. Continuing south is Tilloo Cay banks, a shallow area for swimming. Next are the Pelican Cays. Anchor off and you'll think you are in the South Seas. To the west is Sandy Cay, a national underwater park, with an extensive reef in the Sea of Abaco. Further south past Lynyard Cay (nice beaches) is Little Harbour, the southern end of the Sea of Abaco. Home of the Johnson family- artists and famous for sculptures. Proceeded by his father Randy, Pete carries on the family tradition. Have lunch at his wreck of a bar and grill and visit the gallery. These are just the highlights of the Sea of Abaco. There is much more to see and do. A word about the local hotels. You are welcome to visit and feel free to use their pools. They just hope you will buy a drink or have a meal. In my opinion there is no other place like this. Beds: 1 Queen Bed, 2 Twin Beds Lodging tax: 10% Deposits: Property Damage Protection $89 Payment Options: Money Order, Personal Check Other Fees: No pets are allowed Cancellations for one week's rental with 30 days notice- deposit will be refunded For every additional week rented, add 14 days to the above for deposit refunding Cancellations less than 30 days before arrival will result in loss of deposit.
