The Space***The 'street view' is of the highway - we are not on the highway! Boar's Head, a modest two story Greek Revival was built in 1850. We remodeled this cottage bringing it from somewhere between the stone age and the industrial revolution to a very comfortable modern abode. High quality salvaged materials were used; granite counter tops, tumbled limestone and Brazilian cherry flooring, just to name a few. The kitchen is fully equipped, an island with counter seating for two and a small table for breakfasts, card games or late night sessions of world problem solving. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination. A laundry room is also located off the kitchen with a washer and dryer, a line is strung outside. The next room doubles as a sitting room and the dining room. Lastly, the living room with a couch, love seat and recliner. Any one is suitable for an afternoon nap. The second floor has two proper bedrooms and an alcove with a single bed. The master bedroom has a queen size bed - very comfortable. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed. Plenty of space for 7 guests. We have a large yard with a deck, patio table and chairs. In the shed you will find 4 bikes, sports and outdoor equipment. My most favorite place on the planet is the front porch. Here you can greet the day at your own pace with a cup of coffee or tea. Each evening displays it's own unique sunset. The amusement continues at dusk while watching bats hunt for insects. Later you can make s'mores at the fire pit. Our neighbors are very friendly. The small village has a general store, mostly noted for its hand-dipped ice cream cones and casual banter. A couple of antique shops and a hotel/restaurant make up the remainder of our "business district." The township has a beautiful sandy public beach. Being the County Seat, Eagle River is the home to the Sheriff's Office and Court House. Now the Township Hall, the one-room school house is available for events on the first floor and has a Historical Museum on the second floor. A wide open field for flying kites, playing baseball or soccer has a beautiful view of Lake Superior. An old-school playground and a tennis/basketball court is off to the side. Yes, you will have flies and mosquitoes but such a small price to pay for all of the possibilities to experience a life that has become so rare. Lots of places to ride your bike, road or mountain, and several hiking trails are close by. I can tell you so much more information upon your request.

The SpaceThis spacious and pleasant room sleeps 1-3 people. It is in an historic home that was built in the 1860's. In the past, the home was a boarding house, "Grandview." The guest room has three large windows that face the lake, with enjoyable lake breezes during the summer months. A private bath is across the hall, just off the bedroom. The bedroom is set up with both a double and single bed (to sleep up to three, or for extra sleeping space for restless sleepers.) We are confident that our guests will find this a comfortable and enjoyable space to call their temporary home. We have accomplished much in the nearly 20 years that we've owned the home, and the restoration goes on....and on. A variety of recreational activities are available for all ages and skill levels. Explore the history of the area, or experience biking on beginner to world-class mountain bike trails. Hike, kayak, stroll the beaches, agate pick, or simply relax in the natural beauty of the area. We are an easy drive to the dock for the "Isle Royale Queen" in Copper Harbor, which transports visitors to and from the Isle Royale National Park. Winter provides abundant snow for downhill and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. We are ideally located just 16 miles from Mt. Bohemia and 30 miles north of Mt. Ripley/Michigan Tech. You will find "Grandview" a welcoming place to return to after a day of adventuring or an hour or so of relaxing on the beach. Guest AccessThe spacious guest room is on the second floor, with a private bath. There is a parlor on the first floor for your use as well. During the fall and winter months, we are happy to build a fire in the parlor woodstove for your warmth and enjoyment. During the summer and early Fall, feel free to kick back and relax on the front porch. It is a pleasant place to enjoy your morning coffee or just take a break during the day. Interaction with GuestsOur living quarters are separated from the guest areas. We enjoy hearing about the travels and adventures of our guests, but if it is a quiet get-away you are looking for, we are respectful of your privacy. We are happy to do what we can to assist you in making the most of your time in this beautiful area. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have questions. The NeighborhoodEagle River is a small lakeside town. Taking a walk to the beach with your morning coffee is a beautiful start to the day. Eagles can oftentimes be seen scouting for their next meal near the mouth of the river. The town has three bridges, the historic Pratt Pony Bridge, over 100 years old, is just out your front door, and provides a spectacular view up the river gorge and down to the mouth at Lake Superior. The Eagle River Falls is just a very short walk up the street, across from the Township Hall (which houses the Eagle River Museum on the 2nd Floor.) Lake Superior is magnificent, and forever changing--offering up everything from soft and serene sunsets, to wildly crashing waves. There is more than enough to see and do here in Keweenaw County to pack an itinerary full of adventure and sight-seeing. But, if you'd prefer, you can just kick back, relax...and simply enjoy being here. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation. Parking is available without charge. The nearest airport is the Houghton County Airport (CMX), located between Hancock and Calumet. Eagle River is located in the heart of Keweenaw County, approximately 30 miles north of Houghton (Michigan Tech and Mt. Ripley), and 20 miles south of Copper Harbor (the northernmost end of US 41.) Other Things to NoteOwners will be available for check-in and check-out. Lake Superior brings a wide range of temperatures to the peninsula, even in the summer. You will want to bring a variety of clothing. Summer temperatures can range from the 50's to the 90's. Checking the weather in advance will provide some guidance. Depending on your cellphone provider, when traveling north of Eagle River in the peninsula you may find that service near Copper Harbor is limited. We have wi fi at the house that you will be able to access.
