The 'artist's studio' atmosphere is cheerfully colourful, yet comfortable, clean & homey. This environmentally-conscientious, active couple can help you discover bike, hike, trail run, ski, skate, paddle, arts & cultural activities in the National Capital area. Guest AccessWe want you to feel "at home", so guests are invited to SHARE (we both live here full time!) our entire home. Our art-full house is well-laid-out, cosy, well maintained and nicely updated. The only off-limit spaces are private bedrooms (we have an extra if needed), the office & some of the artist studio space. You are invited to use all the common spaces, just please tidy up after yourself. Laundry, meals, parking & extra cleaning are negotiable for extra fees. Accessibility: For anyone mobility challenged, there are 5 stairs between street level and our main level and then an additional 10+5 stairs to the bedroom level. (details available & we help with luggage ;-). Interaction with GuestsWe both work at home during the day, but tend to get out (doing something active) many evenings & weekends. You will be invited to join us if we're doing something that we can include you in. Although our kitchen and bathrooms are shared, YOU get priority because our schedules are flexible. The NeighborhoodWe LOVE Wellington West - it's lively and fun, but we're one block off the 'main drag', so our location is quiet at night. This is a friendly, up-scale, inner-city arts district where we know everybody. We walk to everything we need: grocers & delis, farmer's market, specialty shopping, parks, churches, theaters, galleries, studios, craft breweries and a HUGE variety of cafes, pubs, restaurants & eateries in all ethnicities and price-ranges... Our artsy 'hood is known as "Ottawa's Gastro Alley"! We are 1 block from Tunney's Pasture, a 20 minute walk to the Civic Hospital, and a 20 minute drive to Gatineau Park. Getting AroundWALKING: Everything you might need can be found within a few blocks of us. We can direct you or use the walking guide & map in your room. PUBLIC TRANSIT: We are 1 block from "Tunney's Pasture" Express OCTranspo Station - a central hub with direct buses to airport, downtown, O-Train, VIA Train station & both universities. BIKING: This is a bicycle-friendly city with bike rentals & routes right here that connect to networks throughout the National Capital region - biking is a great way to explore Ottawa! DRIVING: We are EASY to find: just 4 km west of Parliament Hill, 1 km north of the Trans-Canada Highway and 1 km South of the Ottawa River which is the border between Ontario & Quebec, giving us fast access to Gatineau Park with 200+ km's of nature/hike/bike and ski/snowshoe trails. We paddle right here in town, or drive to 100's of clean lakes & rivers close by also. PARKING available: There is free street parking right in front of the house(8am to 5pm is limited to 1 hour). If you need to use our laneway, we'll charge a small extra fee - mostly to compensate for the fact that it's in-line so we'll have to ask you to leave an extra key so we can get our own car out if needed. Other Things to NoteOnce you book, we will send you DIRECTIONS to our address (+ other travel info), our HOUSE MANUAL with tons of helpful information, and our FOOD GUIDE with eating out & food shopping locations listed by walking distance and direction from our home. In winter, woodstove-heated cabins in the Park are open to skiers or snow shoers for bring-your-own fondue or other meal during the day and night. The extensive network of groomed trails is one of the best-kept secrets of the National Capital Region. The rental property is close to the shoreline, where hare, herons, hawks and deer can be seen upon occasion. Beavers are found swimming in the pond along the bike path to the west. People, on the other hand, prefer swimming from Mousette Beach, only a few steps away.
