The SpaceOur getaway cabin is a few miles from White Salmon, which is just across the river from Hood River, OR. It feels remote, but it's really not that far out into the wilderness. The house sits on 5 acres and is adjacent to 190 acres of Paper Company wooded space. Walk around the grounds in the summer and you'll see that it was once a vineyard. The cabin is newer, clean, and cozy, with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath upstairs, and a half bath and open kitchen/living area downstairs. There's a small hot tub on the patio that also has the amazing view of Mt. Hood you see in the photos. 1 Bedroom has a King bed and set of twins (sleeps 4), plus TV/DVD player. 2nd Bedroom has 2 Queen beds (sleeps 2-4). There are heated concrete floors downstairs, and bedroom heating units upstairs. Stays warm and comfy in the winter. Sorry, no central air conditioning, although we do have a window unit in each bedroom and a portable AC in the living room. It helps, but isn't perfect on really hot days. Luckily it usually cools off in the evenings. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, wine glasses, pots and pans. There is a coffee maker, coffee grinder, a blender, a griddle, a food processor (in garage), toaster, and a gas grill. You're welcome to use any spices and condiments you find, just let us know if we're running low on something. No guarantees on any specific items, though salt and pepper is a given. Although the house could officially sleep up to 8, that number is best with a couple of families. If you would like to have more than the max of 7 as listed, just ask! Note that we use this cabin often and have personal items there. It's very clean and there's plenty of space for you and your things, but it's not totally empty. Inside we have board games, and lawn games for outside. Many guests never leave the property all weekend! Guest AccessThe whole house is yours and it is very private, no other houses are close. We will send you an email with the key code prior to your arrival. Interaction with GuestsWe will communicate with you via email and give you directions, key code, etc. before your arrival. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is just a few miles from White Salmon, which is across the river from Hood River, OR. It takes about 8-10 minutes to get to the house from "downtown" White Salmon, or about 15 minutes from Hood River. Things to do in the area: Hiking in the gorge--there are books and maps at the house that you are welcome to use. We love Catherine Creek, the longer trails are on the far side of the river and are beautiful...this area is on the way to Lyle. Wine tasting--our favorites in WA are Syncline (25 minutes away), Domaine Pouillon, and Aniche, but there are a number of great ones near Lyle, WA, or across in Hood River (Marchesi is wonderful). The town of White Salmon has a small but nice "Harvest Market" grocery store, a nice new brewpub called "Everybody's Brewing", Pioneer Pizza, and a coffee shop. Henni's is a great restaurant in downtown White Salmon that is a bit more upscale than the brewpub and they have excellent happy hour. The small Deli/market called "Feast" has organic food and excellent sandwiches to go. Check out the local consignment jewelry/craft store in town. It's surprisingly cool, though it doesn't look like it from the outside. The jewelrymaker designed the pendants for the movie "Twilight" and can show them to you. Getting AroundThe driveway is gravel and up a hill. Any car can make it up in the summer, but in winter, all-wheel-drive recommended. Other Things to NoteThere is a nice BBQ grill, and TV (but no cable...only movies via Amazon, Pandora, etc. or bring your own.) It's not the fastest internet connection, so if you're planning a movie night, you might want to bring some DVD's. Please bring your own towels for hot tub. We charge a very low cleaning fee and don't want to do a ton of laundry. Bringing your own towels for showers would be even better! Note that the hot tub is smallish, great for a few people, but not a large group.

Lothlorien Woods Tree House is more than 40 years old (built originally by a couple who raised their family in the tree house), predating the current tree house rage. Children: All ages welcome with some cautions - Please advise ages of children. Dogs: Most dogs welcome. Some restrictions and cautions apply. Our Big, Loving Farm Dog Bruiser lives on the farm and welcomes guests, happily providing hiking companionship if desired. Bruiser can be a bit of a beggar, but goes home when told. Pets: There is a $25.00 + 7% tax Pet Fee due at check in. Or, we can modify your reservation to pay in advance. We allow well-behaved dogs only and require that dogs not be allowed on the furniture or beds. We do have a big, loving farm dog (Bruiser). But if guests are unsure whether their dog plays nice with strange dogs, let us know in advance so arrangements can be made for Bruiser. Communications and Technology: There is only sporadic cell-phone access on the property and internet is not provided. The stereo accommodates cassettes (for which we have an eclectic supply) and CDs, but does not have Blue-Tooth, USB ports, or a dock for iPhones or iPads.Rustic Lived-In Feeling: This peaceful, rustic cabin is definitely not the Taj Mahal in the trees or a tony resort. However, if you are looking for a place with that comfy, lived-in feeling where you can unplug, relax and enjoy nature, this is the place for you. Lothlorien Woods Tree House is more than 40 years old (built originally by a couple who raised their family in the tree house), predating the current tree house rage. The Tree House complements (rather than dominating) the surrounding forest and landscape. Entering our Tree House is a step back in time to a simpler time and place. Only a short drive (80 miles) from Portland, Oregon, Lothlorien Woods Tree House Hide-A-Way is nestled in the towering firs in the foothills of majestic, glaciered, and snow-covered Mt. Adams -- the only snow-covered, volcanic peak in the northern Cascade Range which is entirely within a Native American wilderness area and on which no commercial ski-resorts have been or will be constructed. On clear days filtered views of Mt. Adams can be had from the kitchen and from the barbecue deck of the treehouse. The Native American Yakamas, for whom Mt. Adams holds great spiritual significance, graciously make Tract D of the their land available to non-natives to experience the awe and wonder of the natural world. Bird Creek Meadows (accessible from May to October) is one of the most spectacularly beautiful high-mountain wild-flower meadows in the world -- At the top of Bird Creek meadows is one of the world's few double (side-by-side) waterfalls gushing off Mazama (formerly Hells Roaring) Glacier into the depths of Hells-Roaring Canyon hundreds of feet below. A hike up Hells Roaring Creek from below along game trails takes you past miniature wild-flower meadows and small tarns. During mid-week hikes, hikers often encounter few, if any, other hikers and often have the meadows or the Canyon to themselves... Lothlorien Woods is only a short drive west to the rippling white water of the White Salmon river and the white-water rafting, kayaking, and swimming of this glacier fed wild and scenic river. A trip to the White Salmon may not be complete without venturing to the quaint village of Trout Lake and the treat of a wild-crafted mountain huckleberry slice of pie with ice-cream or a delicious huckleberry milk shake. Just a little further away, to the east of Lothlorien Woods, is the Klickitat River which is one of America's most beautiful Wild and Scenic Rivers. As with the White Salmon River, river sport activities abound. In addition to rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming the Klickitat is renowned for it's fishing and fishery resources. Local drift boating and fishing guides are available for hire -- however, we do request that fist be cleaned "before" returning to Lothlorien Woods Tree House Hide-A-Way -- we do not allow fish or game to be cleaned or butchered on premises. Waterfalls permeate the landscape. In addition to the glacially fed waterfalls and the waterfalls on both the White Salmon and Klickitat Rivers, the Columbia River Gorge is a Waterfall Lover's Nirvana. You can book-end your days with essence of water - spending days hiking, boating, fishing while returning to the quiet of your very own hot-tub to relax and recover from a day's adventure. Whichever direction you go from Lothlorien Woods, or whether you choose to bask and relax in the serenity of the Tree House and its environment, your days will be full and your spirit invigorated with the wonder of one of Planet Earth's truly special natural splendors.

The SpaceOur 850 square foot cabin in the woods is cozy but very open. The main floor has one bedroom (queen bed), full bath (+ washer/dryer), kitchen, wood stove and couch (pulls out to a full size bed). The loft (access by ladder) is furnished with a full size bed and a big comfy chair that is perfect for curling up with a good book. You pass through the main bedroom to get to the bathroom so our cabin is probably best for families or close friends :-). Our kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to make delicious meals or enjoy the gas grill on the front deck. We love our vintage 1950s stove (she's old so please treat her nicely). We have a full size fridge and farmhouse sink. We do not have WiFi but the cabin receives most cell service. The cabin comes stocked with plenty of firewood. The cabin does not have A/C (most of the cabins in the area do not) and it can get warm in the summer months. We have several fans that cool the place down and the breeze from the river is pleasant in the evening. Guest AccessOur cabin sits in a private setting but is among five other small cabins. It's a special spot and we love our neighbors. It's important that guests respect the peace and quiet that we all love in our cabin community. Our cabin is best suited for folks who want to relax, unplug, and listen to the river. If you are looking for a party cabin this is not the place. Interaction with GuestsWe are a phone call away but will not be nearby during your stay. The NeighborhoodIf you enjoy the rushing sounds of a Wild & Scenic River then our cabin will be heaven. Our cabin was once on the banks of Northwestern Lake which was drained after the removal of Condit Dam in 2011. The former lakebed, outside our front windows, has been transformed into a meadow and is gradually returning with native grasses and plants. Out the front door are also riverside hiking trails as well as the kayak/raft take out at Northwestern Park. In the spring/summer there's nothing more thrilling than a raft trip with one of the outfitters in Husum or BZ Corner just a few miles up the road (we are partial to Wet Planet but they are all great). Trout Lake is 25 minutes away and is the gateway to Mt. Adams and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest (much less crowded than Mt. Hood). We are within easy driving distance to so much that makes the Columbia River Gorge a stunning vacation destination: wineries, breweries, cideries, waterfall and wildflower hikes, bald eagle watching, winter sports, windsurfing, and meandering on some of the countries most beautiful back roads. Getting AroundWe are about 12 minutes from downtown White Salmon which is a lovely little mountain town with drop dead views of Mt. Hood and some great dining options (Everybody's Brewing, White Salmon Baking Co., Pioneer Pizza, and Feast). In the Summer, stop by Ringleman's Orchards just down the road for incredible berries, peaches, nectarines, apples, and pears. We have a very good grocery store--Harvest Market-- which is well stocked (plenty of local ingredients and everything else too). Downtown Hood River is about 15 minutes away. Other Things to NoteOur cabin comes with one parking spot. Please park directly in front of the cabin and no where else. We have two hound dogs but we try our very best to limit the amount of fur in our lives. Let us know if you plan to bring your dog. Also, please use the sheets we provide to cover the couch if dogs are sitting with you. We have two dogs beds that can be used on the floors.

The SpaceThis beautiful slice of the Columbia Gorge is in a secluded and rustic setting. Currently, there is a camp shower and a honey pot for a toilet. The only lighting at night is from the moon and stars (i.e. there is no electricity). We do, however, provide a full grill for cooking, drinking water, and comfortable beds and lounge areas. Our beds are made from natural materials that won't off-gas (made of cotton and wool), and bedding is either a 100% wool comforter with organic cotton shell, or a lighter down comforter. We use edible ingredients for cleaning (vinegar, TG essential oils, etc). We will provide you with biodegradable soaps for washing. Well behaved pets are welcome, though bear in mind we are located in a remote area surrounded by nature with wild beasts about - so small pets should be watched carefully. Also, even though we are in the Pacific Northwest, it is very dry here in the summer, and campfires are banned by law. Although our location is wild and remote, we are only a 15 minute drive to downtown White Salmon, where you can find restaurants, grocery stores, and supplies. We ask that you keep food in a cooler in your vehicle to reduce bear traffic and for your safety. We also recommend bringing flashlights and headlamps. There are two tipis located on our farm, but they are secluded from one another so you will feel as if you have the place to yourself. The road here is bumpy and not suitable for vehicles with low suspension. We look forward to meeting you! Guest AccessBring your mountain bikes or your hiking shoes. Or book a horseback riding trip with Northwestern Riding Stables, or a rafting trip with any of our amazing outfitters on the White Salmon River. There are so many trails and waterfalls to explore! We also have wonderful wineries, breweries and cideries throughout the gorge. The wild flower hikes on Mt Adams in the summer time are unbeatable. Or you may just choose to stay on the farm and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It's a true paradise. Interaction with GuestsI love showing off the Columbia River Gorge, and am happy to make recommendations for things to do and see in the area. The Neighborhood15 minute drive to White Salmon, WA. Or cross the bridge (another 5 minutes drive) to Hood River, OR. We are approximately 1.25 hours from Portland. Other Things to NoteThe biggest things to note are the following: 1. Fire danger is always a concern in our neck of the woods, so please be responsible. Do not park vehicles in the grass, and absolutely no campfires. 2. We have bears, mountain lions, mountain goats, etc grace our farm. Please be cautious and respectful to all of nature's creatures. We provide bear proof trash cans. Food should be kept in vehicles. 3. Again, this is rustic. There are no smooth walking paths or lighting. Please be capable of walking on uneven terrain.
