"THE HOOSKOW" A TASTE OF THE OLD WEST Our Retreat is not for the light hearted If you want to step back in time and experience the way it used to be, the dusty trail, quiet prairie, buildings that look like time stands still, than this is the place for you. CAMERON AND PAM TAYLOR rent their cabins to visiting hunters and others who want to experience pioneer ambiance — and rustic it is. Bathroom facilities are located nearby — an old outhouse surrounded by sagebrush and a shower house with water from two gravity tanks warmed by the sun. You can choose to stay in the BUNKHOUSE one of four units (refer to other listings for more choices) AND ENJOY A NIGHT OR WEEK IN THE WILD WILD WEST Hippies and hunters and cowboys and climbers—these strange bedfellows mingle in relative harmony in north-central Wyoming’s Ten Sleep, “a little western town with a big western heart.” Rich in history, this ranching town was the halfway point—or ten “sleeps”—between two major Sioux Indian camps. Surrounded by working sheep and cattle ranches, today’s Ten Sleep, population 260, is a stop-off for travelers en route to Wyoming’s biggest tourist attraction, Yellowstone National Park, and to the nearby Bighorn National Forest. Ten Sleep sits so close to the Bighorn Mountains that you can’t see them from most places in town—the striking reddish-hued foothills block the view. But you can’t help noticing Ten Sleep Canyon, which rises into the mountains starting about six miles east of town and has grown in the past couple of decades into one of America’s top summer climbing destinations, with more than 800 bolted routes. If you’ve been considering a trip to Ten Sleep Canyon, or if you’ve never heard of this place (where have you been these past few years?), here’s everything you need to know before you go. The SpaceYou can see for miles in every direction from this cozy cabin. The cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths and a sleeping loft. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, range, dishwasher, disposal and pantry. The washer and dryer is conveniently located off the living room. The cabin has central AC and in-floor heat. All the beds are memory foam and very comfy. Towels, linens and cookware are included. The tap water is from an artesian well that is bottled in Worland and sold all over the country. So drink the purest water you can get right out of the tap! Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house plus, patio, deck and garden. Outside the fence line, on the south, is miles of BLM public land. The fields around the cabin are private land, but can be used for walking or cross country skiing, etc. The house has wifi, telephone, cellphone for Verizon customers, and satellite television. Interaction with GuestsI'll be away in my Airstream while you are staying in the house so you'll have complete privacy. The NeighborhoodHyattville is a tiny town of 75 souls at the foot of the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains. We have a post office, a cafe/bar, the Paintrock Inn restaurant, a church and a beauty shop. It's a friendly ranching community with lots of creek access for legendary fishing. This is a place to enjoy the wide open spaces, explore the Big Horn Mountains, or relax in this peaceful setting. The town of Ten Sleep is 20 miles to the south. Cody and Yellowstone National Park are 90 miles to the northwest. Worland is 50 miles to the south. When flying to Hyattville, I suggest using the Cody airport. Getting AroundYou'll need a vehicle. And stock up on your way because the nearest grocery store and shopping is 50 miles away. Other Things to NoteBe careful when hiking as we do have rattlesnakes although they are generally shy. Just don't disturb them if seen.
