The SpaceThis cute 1927 heritage-listed cottage is in large established gardens in a heritage precinct. Corroborree Park opposite has electric bbqs, play equipment, basketball and tennis courts. It's a short walk to Mount Ainslie with its resident kangaroos and Canberra bush. The cottage is only a 15 minute walk to the city centre and the trendy Braddon district! Easy to find, plenty of parking, and great roads to all the iconic attractions, Magnolia Cottage is a fantastic and convenient place to call home while in Canberra. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house and gardens, including use of the gas bbq in the back garden (you find it as it was left - please be considerate of my next guests!). House keys are in a key safe on site so you can arrive at any time. I provide the code and access details 1-2 weeks prior to your stay. Interaction with GuestsHappy to make suggestions of places to eat or attractions to visit, I'm only a phone call away, but prefer to leave you in peace to enjoy your stay. I maintain the (organic) gardens most Saturday mornings, and guests - especially the kids, are welcome to join me planting, harvesting, weeding, pruning and mowing! The NeighborhoodI love Ainslie with its mixed heritage areas of 'historic' (1920-30s) old houses in large gardens and open spaces, alongside new renovated homes. Traffic is rarely a problem. Parking can be a pain though. From the airport - taxi, Uber or rental car. Public transport - Uber is probably the way to travel if you don't have a car. The bus interchange is 15-18 minutes walk away. Closest bus stop is one block over. ACTION bus timetables and routes are available on-line. Other Things to NoteMy rate is for up to 2 guests, additional guests are $15 per night. Price include sheets and towels for the number of guests agreed. It departs Bungendore Station (10 mins away) at 7.30am and reaches Sydney Central station at 11am. The train has first and economy seats and a dinning car. The train returns from Sydney Central Station at 6pm and arrives at Bungendore Station at 9.40pm. An adult return fare is $80 - $100. The SpaceWe live in an older Ainslie home. It's a loving share house with friendly vibes and pleasant spaces. There are four housemates, plus Billy the Schnoodle pup, who will make your stay enjoyable. We aren't millionaires, so the space is rustic, but it's ours and we love it. There are several communal spaces which you are welcome to utilise, including a living room, kitchen/dining area and pleasant backyard. The room itself comes equipped with a desk, sunny reading chair, double bed with down doona and bar heater for those cold Canberra nights. It is a sunny room during the day, so is a pleasant space if you need to get work done. Guest AccessYou are welcome to use the shared spaces while here, including living room with wood fire, kitchen space and our backyard, along with wifi. Cooking facilities are shared by negotiation (I.e. just let us know you want to cook for yourself while here and we'll make room for you!). Interaction with GuestsYou will be assigned a member of the house as a key contact on arrival to help ensure you have a smooth stay and we are always happy to help you with recommendations, suggestions etc. The NeighborhoodWe live in the gorgeous, leafy suburb of Ainslie. Super close to the centre of Canberra, with great access to Canberra's best institutions. We have the best of both worlds where we live. We are situated at the base of Mount Ainslie, a lovely place for an afternoon walk where you can enjoy Canberra's natural surrounds and wildlife. We are equally close to some of Canberra's best cafes and restaurants in Braddon and Civic, with good access to places like the ANU, the War Memorial and Canberra's recreational amenities around Lake Burley Griffin. Getting AroundThere are bus stops within 100 metres of the house which can take you to the City or to nearby shopping precincts in Dickson. It is also a 15 minute walk to the City, 10 minute walk to food precinct of Braddon and 10 minute walk to our local shops and cafes. Other Things to NoteThe room is next to a bathroom so there may be some noise at times. There is a dog living in this house. He is a friendly pup and a hypoallergenic breed but you would need to be prepared to potentially interact with a dog. The house is an older house and we are renting. There are some areas of disrepair which we are waiting on maintenance for, including some outdoor areas.

Interaction with GuestsThe main residence is adjacent to the cottage so we are happy with as much or as little interaction as you like. Or if you need anything just come over and ask. The NeighborhoodPeace and quiet, kangaroos graze close by. Getting AroundThere is no public transport close by, so you will need a car. Other Things to NoteFor sleeping arrangements, there is a double bed in the bedroom and there is a sofa-bed in the lounge area that can sleep two. Easy to find, easy to park, Magnolia Cottage is in a very central yet very quiet location, only 1km from the Australian War Memorial, and a short drive to the Capital's tourist attractions. Fully equipped and family and pet friendly, Magnolia Cottage is a heritage-listed weatherboard two-bedroom home set in established gardens, on a quiet residential street. Built in in the late 1920s, with wide Baltic pine floor boards, high ceilings, cedar picture rails, and original sash windows throughout, this cottage is an original alternative accommodation for your Canberra short or long stay. Magnolia Cottage has two bedrooms - queen bed in one, 2 singles (electric blankets) and large convertible cot in the other, with an additional single bed in the enclosed front verandah. The house can sleep 4 comfortably, and up to 6-7 if you like it cozy. Linen is provided for each booked person. The fully equipped kitchen has oven, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, tea and coffee facilities, quality crockery and cutlery. I provide some cooking basics, plus simple selection of Australian tea, coffee, biscuits, cereal and milk. The laundry has a front loader washing machine, tumble dryer and drying racks, ironing board and steam iron. I provide washing powder. There's an original 'Hills Hoist' clothes line and pegs out back too. The cottage's fully sound-insulated internal and external walls reduce sound transmission between rooms making for a quiet night's sleep, reduced heat gain in summer and heat loss or drafts in winter. Heating is by programable gas convection heater in the sitting room, oil-filled column radiators for the bedrooms, Tastic and heated towel rail in the bathroom. Cooling by free-standing fans for bedrooms, portable air conditioner for sitting room with the cooling effect flowing throughout. External passive cooling by natural hessian drop shading in summer and keeping curtains closed during the day to reduce heat gain. Outside: The front garden is a riot of colour in spring, with its feature magnolia tree, azaleas, camellias, and borders chock full of herbs and flowering bulbs. It gets a bit shabby as the bulbs dry off, and the privat and pyracantha hedge grows out and bursts into flower, followed by summer colour and scent from the roses, honeysuckle and sweet williams. Later in summer we have a few cherries, apricots, pears and apples to pick (remember to leave some for the next guests), as well as herbs and rhubarb. Winter - tends to be rather drab - but still great for pets and kids. The securely fenced pet friendly back yard has space for kids and pets to run around with shady spots for chilling out, plus fledgling espalier fruit trees - peaches, cherry plums, plums, greengage, blackberries, raspberries, all starting to yield herb and vegetable gardens with tomatoes, silver beet, lettuce, depending on the season and weather. The back yard also has its iconic Hills Hoist. See my facebook page for what's ready for picking, plucking, browsing and when! A bitumen drive links front to back giving sufficient hard standing behind the gate for off road parking for several cars, trailer, caravan for those on the move. Corroboree Park, with its tennis & basketball courts, climbing frames, swings, slides and free barbecue is just over the quiet road. Out and about Nearby you'll find a great range of restaurants, pubs and clubs located minutes away in Ainslie, Braddon, Civic and Dickson. The new and vibrant Braddon precinct is only a 10-15 minute walk away. However, if you prefer to cater for yourselves, the wonderful award-winning local Ainslie IGA can supply all your shopping needs from fresh veg, goat chops to free range cooked chook, artisan cheeses and chocolate, local made breads and dips. Magnolia Cottage is fantastically placed for exploring Canberra and surrounds. Take an orientation trip up Mount Ainslie for the iconic view over the war memorial and Anzac Parade to Parliament House and the Brindabellas. Ainslie is a great base for visiting Canberra's fabulous National institutions - Parliament House, National Art Gallery, Questacon, National Library, Australian War Memorial, the Mint, National Archives, Australian National Botanic Gardens, the AIS and Canberra Zoo and Aquarium. Tour the embassies, visit Canberra's local museums, galleries, theatre, restaurants and cafes. Cycle, segway or walk around Lake Burley Griffin. Slightly further afield, a short and easy drive away: wine tasting drives for Canberra cool climate wineries, spend time at the dinosaur museum, Cockington Green, the Arboretum, Tidbinbilla space tracking centre, Tidbinbilla nature park, and lots of nature reserves and hilltops for bush walking and kangaroo spotting. In the warmer months there is cooling air-conditioning. Of course ironing equipment is also provided. We live upstairs and also have 3 dogs that are separated from the apartment so you can appreciate why we ask that no parties or large gatherings occur in the apartment. Our house and the apartment back onto Mt Ainslie directly and there are many trails and tracks to explore from this area. The biggest attraction is the Australian War memorial within walking distance through the bush. Pets are welcome in the property but not on the furniture. It would be appreciated if all pet products are picked up after your stay. Please do not leave your dog inside when you go out, there is a sheltered courtyard and a shady kennel provided. The area itself is a suburban area and transport will be required to access the local shops. The other main attractions of Canberra are within a very short drive from here or a short bike ride . Off street parking is available for your car but nothing undercover. We think the apartment is lovely but let us know if we have missed anything useful and we look forward to meeting you.

Magnolia Cottage has two bedrooms - queen bed in one, 2 singles (electric blankets) and large convertible cot in the other, with a day bed in the enclosed front verandah. A bitumen drive links front to back giving sufficient hard standing for off road parking for several cars, trailer, caravan for those on the move. However, if you prefer to cater for yourselves, the wonderful local Ainslie IGA can supply all your shopping needs from fresh veg, goat chops to free range cooked chook, local made breads and dips. Please feed pets outside or in the sun room - from previous guests feedback - NOT in the kitchen or elsewhere in the house please. Dog water bowls are located under taps for use outside. The large back garden is securely fenced (fences are 1.2-1.8m) with lots of running around space and some dog toys (earlier guests dependent). I have provided a clam paddling pool for dogs to cool off in (please empty it on departure). I have installed a dog poo composter - to make disposal of droppings easy for you- to pick up after your pet, as all of us responsible pet owners try to do! Do not bag the droppings- it's easy to just use a little compost or grass clippings and the spade (which should be next to the composter). Smoking: Smoking is allowed outside in the garden if you wish. Smoking is not allowed inside. You will need to pick up, bag, and bin all butts and associated waste. Contacting Deborah: If you have any questions please feel welcome to contact me any time for further information on Magnolia Cottage.
