The SpaceWelcome to my lovely, serene home. A 3 bedroom haven for your Canberra stay, plus a fabulous outdoor kitchen and deck area for BBQs in the evenings. I'm a travel writer so always able to give lots of tips to my guests about all the best things to see and do, eat and drink while you're in town. Trust me, with the right information, you'll have a wonderful time in Canberra. The house would be great for a couple, single or family and is kid friendly. Sorry, absolutely no smokers - I'm totally allergic so even smoke from clothes etc a bit too much for me. I also don't love smoking outside - really do prefer non smoking guests fullstop. Guest Access3 bedrooms - 1 x queen sized bed. 1 x spare room setup with either king size bed or single bed (NOT a sofa bed - proper mattresses, uber comfortable). 3rd bedroom has a cot in it and room to put your own travel cot if you prefer (or use my cot). Interaction with GuestsI'm mostly only renting the place out when I'm not here - but I'll leave you a list of tips for things to do in Canberra. There's LOADS to do if you know the right people to pass on tips! (And have a car, in my opinion.) The NeighborhoodOnly 10-15 mins to the city. I love the trees! Quiet, serene suburb VERY convenient to local shops (small shop down the road, massive mall just a few minute drive and "in between" sized shops 20 min walk or 2 min drive). Getting AroundCanberra isn't fabulous on public transport. I recommend a car. However if you ARE on the bus there are bus stops within a few minutes walk (but be warned: many Canberra buses only come once an hour...grrr!) Other Things to NoteYou'll love the BBQ on my back deck - perfect for chilling out at the end of the day. The front porch also a lovely sunny spot in winter for lunch or a morning cup of tea.

The SpaceWelcome to my home! I have available a cosy room with a double bed with a lovely northern aspect, overlooking the paved pergola area. It is private and sunny and in fact has the nicest aspect of all the bedrooms in the house. Your room has a double bed, bedside drawers, a chair, powerpoints, and space in the wardrobe to hang some clothes and stash a suitcase. You share the room with my fabric stash, but I promise it doesn't bite! I can lend you international power plug converters for most country plugs. There is a small beside set of drawers - the top two drawers are empty for you to use, and the bottom drawer contains a hot water bottle and information about local sights. You will be provided with a fresh towel. If you forget your toothbrush or have any other toiletry needs, please just ask. I have a three bedroom house which is in a quiet street, superbly located, in particular for Belconnen - Belconnen is one of the central satellites in Canberra, and is about 15-20 minutes drive to the parliamentary triangle (where most tourist attractions are located). It is two minutes walk from my house to a direct bus route to the city and parliamentary triangle (via Belconnen), making it very convenient for either area. It is also two minutes walk from a park where some Kangaroos come down each evening to feed, so you can take an evening walk and maybe see them! You can also walk easily to the local lake where there are free BBQ's and a range of restaurants along the edge. My house is solar passive so cool in summer and warm in winter, with instantaneous gas hot water - perfect for enjoying a luxurious candle-lit soak in the deep deep bath, or enjoying the various settings of the multifunction shower. The backyard is enormous and includes a shaded and paved pergola area for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine after a long day of exploring Canberra. Canberra has an incredibly large amount to offer visitors, far more than most people realise. I know a lot of the secret gems of the city which I am happy to share with you, and I usually know the most interesting gigs and exhibitions to visit. I am musically inclined myself so if you have an instrument, feel free to pull it out, maybe we can play together! I also speak some French, and would be happy to practice with any French speaking guests. My house is not a perfectly tidy (I own far too many books and have far too many hobbies for that), but it is a happy home where guests can relax and feel like they belong. I list myself as having no pets, which is true in the sense that there are no pets in or near the house. But I do have four lovely chickens that live in a house at the end of the garden, and who get to wander around the backyard. These provide delicious eggs, which you are welcome to try! Guest AccessWhile I don't own a TV as such, I have a projector and a large collection of DVDs that guests are welcome to watch on their own computer or on the projector, and books in a number of languages. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals, and depending on the season, I am happy to share any veggies from my garden with you. My four chooks (Emelda Marcos, Alice, Tweedledee and Tweedledum) produce the most delicious eggs around, and you will have the opportunity to meet them if you like - Emelda is very tame and will let you feed her and pet her. I recently renovated the kitchen, which now boasts two ovens, a microwave, dishwasher and a 5 plate induction stove where you can truly cook up a storm! I provide tea and coffee for guests at no extra cost - just make your own anytime from the large range of options provided. If you don't feel like cooking within walking distance is a pizza place, a classic takeaway and a Chinese restaurant. This small local shopping centre also has a butcher, a bakery, a supermarket, pharmacy and medical centre. You will be able to come and go as you wish, at whatever hour you wish. Interaction with GuestsI guess am a pretty friendly host, and it seems that more often than not I end up feeding my guests - I just can't help myself! I would describe myself as pretty sociable, but if my guests don't feel like chatting, I won't be upset or offended, and will happily leave you in peace. I am often out and about in the evenings, so guests will quite often have the house to themselves. The NeighborhoodMy home is in a quite special spot. It is tucked away in a small suburb with only a few streets in this part of the suburb, so is very peaceful and safe. There is a creek and park only metres away, kangaroos that feed in the park across the way, and Ginninderra lake with barbecues and other amenities within short walking distance. Many guests are amazed at how this area manages to be so central and yet so quiet. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop 2 minutes walk away, with buses that go into Belconnen and then continue directly on to Civic, so public transport is a breeze. There is plenty of space to park your car at the front of the house. Other Things to NoteCheck in during weekdays is usually after 6pm; earlier check in may be able to be arranged if necessary. Checkout is generally whenever is convenient to you; as long as I don't have another guest arriving, you can sleep in all day. I am also happy for you to leave your bags in the house while you explore for the day. To keep costs down I don't include breakfast in my room price. However, as some guests would rather not have to bring their own: For $3 per person I will provide you with a choice of cereals, milk and juice to make your own continental breakfast each morning. For $5 per person you will get the above breakfast option plus a loaf of home cooked bread timed to be ready at the time of your choosing, with a range of home made jams and other spreads. Just let me know your breakfast preferences when you book.
