The SpaceOur apartment is a top floor, north-east facing apartment, with glimpses through the tree tops to the escarpment and the ocean. It's in a small complex in Woonona, 1km from the beach, and has all amenities (including Wi-Fi) provided. The complex is private, as the entry is off the street and down a lane. The apartment is filled with natural light, and is spacious and very cosy. It has recently been renovated and now includes bamboo flooring throughout and a rustic, open plan kitchen/dining/living area, a handcrafted recycled timber island bench with induction cooktop. The study is equipped with a small TV, a fold-out futon, and a custom-built desk constructed from recycled pallets and reclaimed rosewood timber: comfortably set up your laptop and use our broadband wifi. The bedroom has a green leafy outlook through a north-facing window. There's ample built-in cupboard space made available for your clothes (there is now also a toddler bed in the main bedroom). The bathroom is spacious and includes laundry amenities: a washing machine, dryer and laundry sink. Linen, towels and a hairdryer are supplied. In terms of food, we provide the basics, milk, butter, oil, salt pepper, vinegar, tea, sugar and some condiments. There is a north-facing balcony. * Please be aware that there is not lift and the apartment is on the second floor. Guest AccessThe external of the building is an 80s brick block. There are shared clothes lines and parking spaces for residents. At times the parking at the base of the building is busy, so you may need to park on the street and walk 30 meters down the lane to the complex. However, if upon arrival there is no parking available at the bottom of the building, you will be able to pull up near the steps around the back of the building to unload. There is no lift and the flat is on the second floor. It will therefore not suit people with mobility issues. Interaction with GuestsGuests will have the apartment to themselves. We will either meet the guests upon arrival or leave the key conveniently for the guest. The NeighborhoodWoonona shops is a 5 minute walk from the unit, where you’ll find an IGA, a veggie shop, an organic shop (Manic Organic), tasty fresh Sushi, Thai, and a few other dining out options as well as other basic services, including pharmacies and a post office. All and Sundry is a great cafe at Woonona shops, offering good coffee and a seasonal breakfast/lunch menu. Thirroul village is a 5 minute drive north, where you’ll find many more cafes, restaurants and some lovely retail shops. Our preference for food shopping is Flametree Community Food Co-op (fresh local produce and organic unpackaged food and groceries) and Thirroul Fruit Barn (good deli section). The closest beach is just under a kilometre away. Quick to drive, but you can walk over an overhead bridge that crosses Memorial drive (the main road that goes into Wollongong) before walking down a quiet street to the beach. There's a cafe and ocean baths right there on the point. You’ll find loads of good surf spots nearby, including the famous Sandon Point, and beautiful bush and coastal walks all within a short drive. There are a few good yoga studios nearby - in Bulli, Austinmer & Woonona - and a blissful day spa 10 minutes away in the escarpment in Austi. There are also 3 gyms in Woonona, a 5 minutes walk away. If you follow the Grand Pacific Drive north along the coast the scenery is stunning. There's a few great places to stop along the way. Many people like to explore the boutiques on Moore Street in Austinmer, where you can also grab a coffee or a meal at Fireworks Cafe. You could visit the Wombarra sculpture garden or one of the many beautiful northern beaches or ocean baths. Stop at the Scarborough Hotel for a pub meal in the cliff-top garden with a stunning view and then continue across the SeaCliff Bridge to the beautiful Coalcilff beach, backed by spectacular cliffs. Stanwell Park beach is also gorgeous; and the stunning Royal National Park (30 mins) begins just a little further north. Before hitting the national park, head inland a little to Helensburgh to explore the Sri Venkateswara Temple (and eat a delicious dhosa, served only weekends!) or check out the beautiful Govinda Valley Retreat and book in for a delicious vegetarian meal. Every Sunday there's a farmers market in Bulli, 5 minutes from the house (Foragers Market) and on Friday morning there is a farmers market in Wollongong, a 10 minute drive south from our flat. Another 10 minutes further south visit the Nan Tien Buddhist temple. We are also only a short drive from Kiama, Berry or inland to the Southern Highlands. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop a short walk from the flat, where you can get a bus north to Thirroul (and further) or south to Wollongong. We are a 10 minute walk from Bulli train station and a 5 minute drive to Thirroul station, which is the point of departure for the express trains to Sydney. The train trip is very pretty and from Thirroul train station Central Station in Sydney is only 1 hr 20mins. Traveling to Sydney by car takes 1 hr and Canberra is also a straightforward, 2.5 hour drive. Other Things to NoteThis apartment is used as our home when we are in the Illawarra. Please care for it as you would your own :) We do not have air conditioning. The building has many internal brick walls so stays pretty cool in the summer. Having said that, if you experience a prolonged heatwave (high 30s - low 40s for days) there is obviously the potential for the space to warm up. We provide fans and there is also good airflow to manage these conditions.

The SpaceDouble bed room in family home (children have all left home). The 2 story house has a beautiful balcony to relax on, and take in the beautiful garden. But if you don't want to relax, it is only a minute to the lagoon at the end of the street, and a 3 minute walk to a pristine surfing beach, and across the lagoon is a bird sanctuary. The house is within walking distance of the train and bus, has free wifi and on-street parking. We are gay friendly. 5 km away is Wollongong, a busy University city, with theatres, cinemas, many sporting activities, spectacular lookouts and botanical gardens. You can choose from the many surfing beaches in the vicinity, or stroll along the bike path which follows the coast. We are an hour and a half south of Sydney, with its cosmopolitan vibe and iconic sights. Rie is a writer and Bob is retired. We have a small dog and 3 cats, so please don't expect a pet-free home!

The area is famed for it numerous gorgeous beaches, rock swimming pools, and the dramatic green escarpment bush backdrop that overlooks the area and coastline. A perfect place to relax and spend time with your friends or family. Thirroul and the local suburbs have a thriving café culture, great alfresco dining options, charming pubs and many boutique stores. The wonderful beach is the one of the compelling reason to visit Thirroul, a sweep of golden sand backed by a large grassy park with a huge modern children's playground area, bike track, and close to shops and cafes. The town also has a lively arts community. The English writer DH Lawrence lived in Thirroul in 1922 and wrote much of his Australian novel "Kangaroo" here. Wyewurk, the home he lived in, is now privately owned, However, a park at the end of Craig Street offers a glimpse of the views Lawrence enjoyed. The Wollongong Cycleway is a purpose-built walking and bike track that runs parallel to the ocean and passes through Thirroul. It's dotted with cafes and parks to take a break. Nearby suburbs such as Austinmer, Coledale , Scarborough, Wombarra and Stanwell Park all have stunning beaches and wonderful places to explore. The SpaceThis little cabin is in our back garden, quite close to our house but private enough with entry from a side gate into the garden. The cabin is fully self-contained with own bathroom and small kitchenette area with a fold-up table and chairs. There's a small fridge, small stove/oven appliance. (two hotplates on top), microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, pots and pans, utensils, crockery, cuttlery and glasses etc. There's enough there to self-cater to a basic standard for four people. Beds are made up and towels etc are provided. It's 7 minutes walk from Thirroul train station. An hour-and-a-quarter train ride to Sydney (Central) It's a 10 or 20 minute walk to beautiful beaches. 10 - 15 minutes walk to restaurants, bars, cafes and shops of Thirroul. The cabin is very small and open-plan. Suitable for a family with older children, or several adults for sleeping as there is a double bed in an alcove downstairs and two, three or four (maximum) single mattresses on the carpeted floor in the loft (mezzanine style.) Due to the nature of the loft stairs and windows, the cabin is unsuitable for children under six and close supervision would be required for children of any age. There is not a great deal of room downstairs, so it would be crowded as a place to stay during the day for more than a couple of people. The downstairs bed converts into a small lounge area, otherwise there is no sitting area, just the bed. The floorplan in the pictures gives an idea of size and layout. The stairs to the loft are narrow and, at this stage have a single railing making them unsuitable for small children and the elderly. The neighbourhood is quiet and leafy. Wifi is available and easy street parking. Guest AccessThe little cabin is accessed via gates from the street into the garden (we're on a corner block.) Interaction with GuestsThe cabin is close to our house but private and completely self-contained so it's entirely up to our guests how much interaction they have with us. We tend to hang out at the front of our place and enter and leave that way. The cabin's at the back and entry is via a side street. We are friendly and like meeting people so if you'd like more company we're open to it :) We're also available if you need local info etc or, if we're around, a lift anywhere. The NeighborhoodOur neighbourhood is quiet and leafy and very safe. It's an easy walk to shops and cafes, a slightly longer walk to the beach. Getting AroundThe train station is about seven minutes walk. There's also a bus. Being wedged between the escarpment and the sea as we are, there's only really one main road and one train line so it's all pretty easy :) The train ride to Sydney is scenic and pleasant and takes just over an hour to Central.

The Space"Berta" is a classic coastal house. High ceilings, light filled rooms, plenty of places to sit and dine. An ideal day would be to wake up, walk to the beach, return for breakfast and have a nap on the deck. Then a dip in the pool, a walk through town to visit the cafes and vintage shops, or a bush walk in the beautiful escarpment behind the house, and finally dinner at the pub, with dessert in front of the fire at home. It's a place to enjoy all that Thirroul has to offer, which is plenty if you like beaches, bush, cafes and shopping. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house, all to themselves. That includes 3 bedrooms, two living areas, a big deck, the bbq, the back yard and the pool area. We will either be away, or staying in a studio to the side of the property if you need anything. The place is all yours! Interaction with GuestsWe probably won't be there when you arrive, but we will give you instructions on how to let yourself in. The NeighborhoodWeatherboard houses and palm-lined streets make this hidden seaside suburb the perfect trip out of town. Tucked away in Sydney's south, Thirroul is just 1hr from the City. It has always boasted a brilliant coastline and beaches, but has recently sprung to life with a set of great new eateries and boutique stores. EAT Flanagans Dining Room Flanagans has been around for more than a year and specialises in seafood caught locally. Sitting right by the ocean in a 1940s Art Deco-style building, the atmosphere is peaceful and elegant. Thirroul Beach Promenade, The Esplanade, Thirroul The Shack The Shack (which used to be called The Tin Shed) cafe is the place to go as soon as you arrive for an all-day breakfast in the lush garden out back. It prides itself on its coffee, using organic, fair-trade beans from Sydney's Galleria. Pair it with something sweet from its extensive bakery inside and you'll come back in the afternoon for another one. 364 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul SHOP Plume At Plume you'll find a well-organised array of goods from top international and Australian designers including Kate Sylvester, Camilla & Marc, Alice McCall and Maison Balzac candles. Keep an eye out for this boutique's frequent sales; it often has excellent ones that are worth the trip down in itself. Shop 3271 Lawrence Hargrave Drive Thirroul Retro Wombat Antiques and Restorations This place is a haven of hard-to-find antiques and relics. Finding the good stuff requires a committed search – the building is packed floor to ceiling with antique fittings and vintage homewares. The treasures extends out the back where you can find old timber boats and miscellaneous parts of Volkswagen combies. 228 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul Finbox Starting out primarily as a small surfboard store, Finbox has expanded with a vinyl store upstairs run by Spunk Records, and a cafe. Its aim is to “supply you with everything you need to express and enjoy yourself in and out of the water", so come here to browse the boards and grab your post-paddle coffee. 269 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul DO Hop on the train The train trip down to Thirroul is one of the best ways to visit. The route is scattered with water and bush views and from Central it's only an hour and a half. Visit the pool Thirroul Olympic Pool was built in the 1930s, is parallel to the ocean and the water is pumped in from the sea. The car park and pool are free so swim at your leisure between the pool and the ocean as you please. Getting AroundEverything is within walking distance of the house. Thirroul town and the train station is 8 mins walk away, and the beach 12 mins walk. You can get here very easily by train. If you want to explore more beaches along the "coal coast", or the gorgeous surrounding areas, a car is handy (and a bike is even better). Other Things to NoteWe are right next to the train line, which makes transport to the house easy, but it does mean that we also see the train going past from the back yard. Luckily the train only comes every hour or so on weekends, and every half hour during peak hours on weekdays. There are also infrequent coal trains which do make a racket, and can last for almost a minute, but they only pass a few times each day. If you're inside with the screen shut it's not disturbing, but if you're on the deck it can be quite loud.

Interaction with GuestsWe live on the first floor of the house and have separate access via outdoor stairs. We will be available via mobile and email throughout your stay. We do both work so are often in and out. We are happy to take phone calls or respond to SMS for any queries or concerns that you have during your stay. We are very friendly and more than happy to offer some local knowledge and advice or directions, however we also respect your privacy. If you dont want/need to see us you probably won't. The NeighborhoodThe house/unit is set up against the escarpment so we have great views of the ocean. It is very peaceful with lots of beautiful native scenery and wildlife. There is a lot of birdlife around, particularly in the trees in the front garden including King Parrots, Galahs, Kookaburras, Rainbow Lorikeets, Cockatoos and plenty more. The beaches are lovely with white sand and plenty of beaches to choose from. There are beach pools at Woonona and Bulli beaches if you don't like swimming in the waves. Surfing and kitesurfing is quite popular and in the right season we often see whales from the beach. There are also lots of parks and playgrounds in the area and footpaths/bike tracks as well as a range of restaurants and cafes in the main street of Woonona alone, as well as the surrounding suburbs. In Woonona CBD, Pai Tong is a favourite Thai restaurant or for pizza lovers, try Woonona Pizza Kitchen! There is also Hogs Breath, Indian, Lebanese, Chinese, dominos and various cafes. Recommended cafes are Four Little Beans in Woonona main street or Northbreak cafe by the beach. We are happy to make recommendations when you are here! Woonona has an IGA and 2 kms from Woonona main street is a big Woolworths in Bulli. There are several pharmacies in Woonona and surrounding suburbs. There is a laundromat in Woonona just off the main street so just a couple minutes drive or 10/15 minute walk from the unit. There is another laundromat in Corrimal - a short drive from the unit. Getting AroundThe unit is a 10-15 min downhill walk from unit to the bus stop in the main street of Woonona. However, getting home there are 2 steep hills to walk up to get back to the house. The bus will take you North to Thirroul, Stanwell Park to Helensburgh or South to Wollongong CBD and further south. It is approx 35 mins walk to the train station or the beach. There are a couple of steep hills near the unit though so it is ideal to have a car to get around the area. There is a taxi stand in the centre of Woonona so if you need one they typically pick you up from the unit within a few minutes. Or you can easily catch one on your way home from the beach or shops. Other Things to NoteThe unit is at the top of a short, steep driveway (see photo of front of house) and there are 4 steps at the top of the driveway to the front door. It is not ideal for anyone with limited mobility. Plenty of street parking or guests may even park in driveway. We do have a dog - a friendly blue cattle dog, Rookie, who lives in the backyard which is fenced off and separate from the unit.

The SpaceThe house is 2 storeys - 2 bedrooms and main bathroom upstairs. The 2nd bedroom is currently used as a study with a comfy sofa bed. There is another very comfy sofa bed in the lounge room that sleeps 2 adults. All up the house will sleep 4 very comfortably - 2 in the main bedroom (Queen size bed), 2 on the large sofa bed down stairs and 1 in the study - although this can sleep 2 but is only a double sofa bed. Great for kids. The kitchen, laundry, dinning and lounge room are down stairs. The floor is slate and keeps the house cool in summer (carpet upstairs!). The kitchen is equipped with all essentials and the TV, DVD and stereo are in the lounge room. I love the light that streams through particularly in the mornings and on a warm day I love sitting on the deck reading and watching the occasional bird and lizard hanging out together. Guest AccessYou'll have access to all rooms except the garage. The NeighborhoodNeighbours are friendly, trustworthy and there are a few gorgeous young kids that are always happily playing. There is a pub and bottle shop across the road - can recommend the $10 Chicken Schnitzel salad lunch. There is a beer garden and occasionally some live instrumental music on a Sunday afternoon (its not loud and has never given me any trouble). Getting AroundIt's a 2minute walk to Bellambi train station. From there it's 5-10mins to either Thirroul, Wollongong city or University. There is a great bike path along the beach (5 mins away).

The SpaceDesigned and built in 1999, this townhouse is one of two properties on the block, both of which were dreamt up and brought to life by my parents who now reside in this second property. However, now that they're empty nesters, they've taken to trotting the globe a little more, which is why we've decided to let someone else enjoy this little gem of a house these summer holidays! Although we have no reviews as of yet, we are all frequent airbnb travellers so be assured that we know how to make your stay easy and memorable for all the right reasons :) Downstairs: There are two bedrooms, one has a king size bed and the other has a king single trundle that transforms into a double bed or two singles. The bed pictured in the second room (blue stripy cover) is an air mattress and not the one that will be there, though the trundle is a similar size to this when made up as a double. Both rooms have built in wardrobes that you can store your clothes in. The first bedroom also has a cool vintage clothes horse that you can see in the pictures, and a couple of wall hooks to hang your bathrobe. The bathroom has a toilet, sink and a good, hot shower. You are of course welcome to use the bathroom cupboards as well as any shampoo that may be in there. There are a couple of marks on the vanity surface from people generally living in the place, but the bathroom is in good condition and has pretty coloured tiles. What more could you need? Towels, you say? That's fine, we have a whole linen cupboard for you to make use of right next door to the bathroom. The laundry is yours to make use of as you wish. The washer is easy to use and I can show you how when you arrive. We have no dryer, but you can use some good old fashioned fresh air to get the job done by hanging things on the clothes line at the back of the house. Upstairs: The living space is pretty open plan, with a three seater lounge, two cool armchairs that my mum found and got reupholstered and a dining room table that can be folded out to double its size of need be. It's a light and comfortable space with lovely views of the escarpment and although you can't quite see the ocean from the balcony, you can definitely hear it and smell it, which is really wonderful. The kitchen is fully functional - stove, oven, microwave, toaster, sink, crockery. You are welcome to use the dry stores that are in the pantry cupboard. If you're lucky there may even be some biscuits! We have no dishwasher, so my advice is to wait until one of your traveling companions asks where the dishwasher is and then point at them. I look forward to welcoming you to Thirroul! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions before booking :) Guest AccessWe encourage you to make our house your home, so you will have full access to all parts of the townhouse, including wardrobe space to store your things. Interaction with GuestsYou will have the entire place to yourself, though I will be on hand to answer any questions or address any problems you might have! I am more than happy to suggest things to do, places to eat, etc. The NeighborhoodThirroul is an increasingly trendy coastal town, full of coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, pubs and coffee shops. We also have two supermarkets, Bi-Lo and IGA, as well as a gourmet organic butcher, several bakeries and and essential outlets such as pharmacies, newsagents, hairdressing/beauty salons and banks (ANZ, Commonwealth, Horizon). The main street of Thirroul is lively, but not overcrowded with plenty of spots to sit (coffee in hand) and watch the world go by. Thirroul Beach is vast and unspoiled, with a salt water pool and an impressively large play park for the kids, complete with flying fox. Getting AroundThirroul train station is a 10-15 minute walk away and is a major stop on the south coast line. Buses can be caught from along the main road (Lawrence hargrave drive) going south to Wollongong or north towards Stanwell Park. The village is an easy walk away, with a taxi rank in the centre of north Thirroul (next to The Beaches Hotel, King Street) if you feel the need to be chauffeured.

Interaction with GuestsWe plan to be available to welcome you and offer advice on beaches, shops and the best coffee in town! The NeighborhoodEast Corrimal is a quiet, friendly and family oriented neighbourhood enjoyed by surfers and bike riders. The local cafe, Franks 'n Beans (walking distance to Murray Road), is very popular. There is a good Foodworks in the same location. We have listed our favourite restaurants in the manual. For more details on shops etc in Corrimal, see our guidebook below. Getting AroundThe lagoon and bicycle path are at the bottom of the street. Left towards Thirroull, to the right is the playground and beach. It's a short walk to Murray Street for shops and cafes. The SpaceOur property is set back from a quiet road so peace and quiet surroundings are part of the charm. The flat is part of our house and we present it this way - it is not a hotel and does not offer the same facilities. We go for the "homely" approach which means you will hear us as we live above and if we all try to shower at the same time the water temperature will be affected - the difference between a water boiler in a house against a industrial style at a hotel. We add this not to put you off but to be transparent as possible to avoid disappointment. Guest AccessPrivate apartment Independent access Furnished apartment Fridge Dishwasher Modern kitchen Modern bathroom (shower only) Large private balcony area accessed from apartment Interaction with GuestsWe are friendly but also respect people's right to privacy. We would expect the same from guests The NeighborhoodBeautiful beaches Central location in the south Quiet, private location Getting AroundTrain to the city (about 1 1/2 hours) Hire car would be best Local buses Other Things to NoteThis is more of a bed only option rather then bed and breakfast. Whilst you will find tea, coffee, cooking oil and some other bits and pieces we do not offer breakfast. The SpaceThe bedroom I have listed has a double bed, a TV, heating and cooling. The bed is extra comfortable with good quality bed linen. Guest AccessThere is guest access to the front living area and kitchen dining area. I encourage guests to use the kitchen to make breakfast and use the coffee machine provided. The bottom shelf of the fridge is reserved for guests and there are some basics to make breakfast or for your own supplies. Interaction with GuestsI understand the importance of privacy and space but at the same time I am available for any assistance I can give. The NeighborhoodThe neighbourhood in which I live is between the mountains and the sea. The ocean is within walking distance but best to have a car if you plan on a picnic or a swim. I hope to have two bikes available for guests soon to take advantage of the fabulous bike track that winds around the beaches taking you right into the heart of Wollongong. There is really something for everyone in Wollongong as a relatively small regional area with lots of history and a melting pot of cultures. And as more people make the migration south to Wollongong to take advantage of space mixed with modern urban living there is more to see, people to meet and things to do. Getting AroundFrom my home public transport is accessible with Bellambi station about a 10minute walk or take the bus which runs along the highway at the top of the road, a 5minute walk. The free shuttle bus is also an option to do the city circuit starting at Fairy Meadow. Also the local cab service Wollongong Radio Cabs has an app [WRC Taxis] that will provide almost instant (URL HIDDEN) opposed to call and book. Uber is also coming to Wollongong and I will keep you posted. Other Things to NoteI am flexible around arrival times and if you are running late for example we can work out a solution so no one is unnecessarily impacted.
