"Springfield" is part of the Hilltops region renowned for wine, cherries and stone fruit. "Springfield" is a large working farm established in the 1850's and is still in the same family. It runs merino sheep and cattle om its gentle rolling hills. At "Springfield Guest Cottages" there are four unique cottages to choose from. "Gabby's" is our open plan one bedroom fully self contained cottage. originally it was the gardener's cottage built around 1911 of sandstock bricks. It has a full kitchen with dining table and chairs, a comfy sofa and television with DVD and a queen size bed. There is a laundry, private bathroom, air conditioning and heating. Here modern comfort is combined with antique furnishings. The large garden surrounding "Gabby's" has a swimming pool and tennis court for guest use. "Gabby's" is $150 per couple per night. "The Stables" is a two bedroom cottage incorporated in the original horse stables built in 1901 by the present owners great grandfather. Here the horse grooms used to live. Enjoy a restful night in the elegant four poster bed. There is a separate twin bedroom. "The Stables" has a separate living and dining room with original huge posts supporting the ceiling and large glass doors onto the garden. There is a television and dvd player, air conditioning, heating and a private outdoor entertaining area. "The Stables" is $150 per night for a couple and $30 per extra guest per night. "Bill's Cottage" is a romantic stone cottage built in 1850. It is surrounded by a lush private garden with large shady trees. Enjoy cosy nights by romantic firelight in the comfortable living room. Sleep peacefully in your queen bedroom ; there is a separate bedroom with twin beds for your children. "Bill's Cottage" has a separate dining room, full kitchen and laundry facilities. In summer enjoy air conditioning and sitting on the grape vine entwined verandah. "Bill's Cottage" is $150 per night for a couple and $30 per extra guest per night. "The Manager's Cottage" is our newest guest house. It sit's high on a hill overlooking the Lachlan Valley with spectacular views to the north. Originally built in the 1960's it boasts a large open living room with huge glass windows with window seats ideal to relax on while reading. Enjoy a romantic evening by the huge open fire. It has three separate bedrooms with two queens and two single beds. It has a full kitchen and laundry and is the ideal private escape home. "The Manager's Cottage" is $160 per night for a couple and $30 for each extra guest. Things to do Enjoy peaceful walks on the farm. Laze under large shady trees on green lawns. Play tennis and swim in the pool in summer. Children enjoy seeing all the farm animals. There are sheep, cattle, horses, miniature Shetland ponies, chickens, alpacas, a cat and a scruffy puppy called Arthur. There is Stella the sheep dog who is always eager for a game of soccer. Young is a vibrant, bustling town. There are many great restaurants, bakeries, cafe's, wineries and pick-your-own orchards to enjoy. There is an interesting museum full of information about Lambing Flat and the goldrush and the chinese riots that has made Young famous. There are chinese gardens, a distillery and a movie theatre to see. Young also has a heated olympic size pool operating in the summer months, with two smaller pools for the little ones.. The shopping is great and there are beautiful parks and interesting old historic buildings. The cherry season and the Cherry Festival, in December, is always a popular time in Young. History "Springfield" has been in the same family for seven generations. It is still a working farm only 8 short kilometres to the busy town of Young. It is unique in that it has retained so many of its original houses and outbuildings. The Guest Cottages form part of the farming enterprise and work is underway to restore the original shearers' quarters from 1890. Two of the cottages, "Gabby's" and "The Stables" are set around the large old stone homestead dating from 1870. Large established trees are a feature of the property with expanses of thick green lawn and flower beds. "Bill's Cottage" and "The Manager's Cottage" have their own private, fenced gardens, but all the cottages are within walking distance of each other linked by a meandering driveway of pepper trees. The property is full of birds including the rare Superb Parrot, cockatoos, galahs, wrens, topknot pigeons and many more.
