The SpaceThe main house has 4 large bedrooms in total as well as a double sofa for your use, as the host family sleeps in an attached flat & annexe. The master bedroom at one end of the house has a beautiful Queen bed, air-conditioning, a small lounge area, a large private ensuite bathroom and space to use in the walk-in wardrobe.
At the other end of the house, two of the large double bedrooms each have a Queen bed, dresser and/or shelving & wardrobe space. The third bedroom is a twin room containing a King Single and a Single bed. The fifth sleeping area is the open plan smaller lounge which contains a comfortable double pull-out sofa-bed. At night, once everyone has settled, this is quite a private area as no one needs to pass through to access a bathroom etc. All areas of the house have reversible, quiet ceiling fans.
It is a very large open-plan home with multiple living areas both inside and out. It is our family home so we'll be around and about during the day. It is fully self-catering so you'll have your own pantry space & fridge/freezer space and will have full use of the kitchen, indoor and outdoor bars and barbecues.
We have a good automatic coffee machine & provide various teas, coffee, hot chocolate, milk & sugar etc. as well as any oils, herbs, spices, condiments and other basic cooking necessities. Bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, our lovely fresh free-range eggs, yoghurt, canned fruit & juice, are available for your first breakfast here. Bread, butter, jams & conserves, milk, and a selection of cereals is on hand for your entire stay. In season there are often starfruit, papayas, mangoes, peaches, citrus, bananas and other tropical fruit to share with you and always fresh herbs from the gardens.
For relaxing days at home you have full use of the pool & spa pool, games room with a ¾ size pool table, foosball table & dartboard. It is so beautiful here and is wonderfully relaxing, especially eating or relaxing out on the decks, surrounded by the lush gardens & bush and listening to the amazing bird life.
For the odd rainy day we have many books, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles, board & card games for most age groups. We have an old table tennis table that is undercover and can be used in most weather, though as it is outside it is affected by wind. The Sunshine Coast Council has a wonderful visitor service available at the local Library. All areas of the house have reversible, quiet ceiling fans, a fantastic Odyssey ventilation system and there is a wonderful log fire for winter time.
We have 3 separate listings for the whole house, called 'Mount Mellum Magic' which sleeps 10, Ozmahana which sleeps 6-8 and Butterfly Bliss which sleep 2. If you search 'Mount Mellum' or 'Beerwah' Queensland, and zoom in on Australia Zoo, we are very close, west of the Zoo. You'll see the 3 listings all together. Guest AccessYou'll be able to access the main house, indoor and outdoor entertainment areas, outdoor swimming & spa pools, games room, basic gym (weights machine, pull-up frame, bar weights, barbells, incline bench, ab bed, swiss balls), all gardens, paddock & orchard, freely. The downstairs flat, master bedroom annex, art studio & sheds will all require our permission to enter. There is plenty of undercover parking available - including for a boat/trailer/caravan if need be. Interaction with GuestsWe will be guided by the type of holiday you want, with as much or as little interaction as you care for. We would generally use the main house kitchen and lounges on and off during the day, but if you wish to have a family gathering only, or time on your own, we can also make ourselves scarce. You are paying for the experience you want, of staying in this wonderful place, as much as for a place to lay your head at night.
We are present hosts on our property, not absent hosts - this is our family home not a second home or holiday home. We absolutely love our home and the area we live in. It is an authentic working (very) small acreage, it won't be 5 star spotless 100% of the time like a hotel, but it is always clean and very comfortable. We have a calm, relaxed attitude to our first Airbnb adventure and can't wait to share what the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland has to offer. Just come on in and make yourselves at home :-)
The house and living areas are large enough that you can have several groups of people doing their own thing without impinging on the others. If you have a family reunion or a similar event, this would be an ideal all-weather venue. The NeighborhoodYou wouldn't know from staying here, just how close we are to the nearby towns, beaches and cities. We have two villages about 5 minutes away by car, north & south. Australia Zoo is 2km away as the crow flies - or 10 min by car through either village. Maleny & the Blackall Range with it's dairies, boutique towns and beautiful landscapes are 15 minutes drive away. Likewise the stunning Glasshouse Mountains, many beaches, Noosa, Seaworld, Eumundi Markets, Aussie World, the Big Kart track, Skippy Park recreation area (great kids' play area and fitness track for cycling, skating, rollerblading etc.) are all in easy driving distance. If you want to get away from it all we are surrounded by beautiful walks, hikes, secluded picnic spots and some truly magical cafes. There are many great restaurants to choose from both close by and further afield. Getting AroundOur two closest villages have train and bus facilities. We are an hour north of Brisbane Airport and 40 minutes southwest of Maroochydore Airport. Both airports have regular shuttle services and we may be able to collect you from public transport by arrangement. Having your own transport gives you many more options to explore the area, but our home would also suit you if you just wanted to stay here and relax for a time. Other Things to NoteAt this stage due to insurance issues we are not able to host weddings, though we hope to in the future. The house and inner grounds are safe and secure, fenced by over 500m of childproof pool fencing. As well as being able to accommodate several couples, we also hope to attract family groups. Speaking from experience, we know how difficult it can be to go on holiday if you have extended family with several children or a child with special needs - in particular those with ASD. Due to our life and work experiences around the world, we are very accepting of all people and are non-judgmental. There is a great deal of laughter in our lives, and we value honesty, acceptance and trust above all else.
