I live in a leafy suburb in the west of Cairns. It is a typical queenslander style house. There are 4 bedrooms in total, 2 bathrooms, a spacious living room and a kitchen with dinig area beside it. My husband is from New Zealand and he loves outdoor (kayaking and fishing) I do pirates and zumba everyweek. I am also massagae and aromatherapist. Three of my children, age 11,9,and 4 all love Karate and other sports activities and love to meet people from all over the world. We also have a cat called luca. We have two spare bicycles, which our guests are weocome to borrow during their stay.

The SpaceClose to town, 25 minutes walk to lagoon. 700m to Cairns Central, cook a BBQ in the back yard which has a chilled out atmosphere. You can hook your laptop up to the projector and watch movies in the back yard, kick back and read a book surrounded by a beautiful garden, watch tv in the comfort of your own bed, Or just cook a nice dinner and relax after a hard day of being a tourist. This is a shared house with other guests and myself when I'm home. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house and yard except for my office. The Kitchen, bathroom, lounge room, BBQ area, yard space, outside kitchen are all common areas for all to use together. I have unlimited phone credit for Australian calls so please don't hesitate to ask if you need to make a call with in Australia. Interaction with GuestsI am frequently away from my house so may not always be available to show you in. Generally there is somebody to greet you and show you around the house. If I am there and host you generally we will have a bbq or 2 together. Feel free to come along on any trip we are doing. I have two children that come over on weekends. They are 16 and 14 and enjoy asking many many questions. When I am not home there is normally 3 people living in the house which range from local workers, to travellers, backpackers, or friends that are passing through or come up on a holiday. So you will never be bored or lonely. We have the greatest times in the house when all the people get together for dinner and enjoy good wine and good food. The NeighborhoodBest thing about our neighbourhood is that its fairly quiet, neighbours are nice and it's quite close to town and amenities. Getting AroundPublic transport is not really good in Cairns. I would hire a car or bicycle. Sometimes it can be too hot to walk long distances for some people. If you get a bicycle, helmets must be worn by law. It is $23 approx from my home to the airport and $14 to the lagoon. 700m to Cairns Central Shopping center. Approximately 25 minutes walk to the lagoon. 20 minute walk to center of town to where bars and clubs etc are. 30 min walk to pier where the boats leave for reef trips. God forbid you need it but 30min walk to the hospital. Sports world gym and other gyms and yoga studios within 15 min walk. Other Things to NoteThere is only one shower and one toilet for the 4 rooms. Please be patient and understanding. Another bathroom is coming in 2017. This is a home not a hotel.

The SpaceThe landscaping and pool area are as good as many, even most 4 and even 5 star hotels that I have been to. We still haven't been in every one of the pools. Doesnt matter how busy it is I can almost guarantee you you wont have to share a pool with anyone else. No kid soup!! Also has a tennis court, gym and shop downstairs. Our apartment itself is spacious enough, comfortable and cool. It could do with some art on the walls I think... Working on that. There is a reasonable sized balcony with outdoor furniture and place to hang out clothes, a sofa area inside that can seat 5, a dining table that I never use (but you're of course welcome to), a laundry room to wash clothes and of course your room and own bathroom. Guest AccessWe have left the (technically) Master bedroom free although both rooms are pretty much the same size. It has its own ensuite with double vanity, a big queen bed with a TV also in the room. The house also has a large living area with sofa, entertainment system and flatscreen etc and a 15sqm balcony that is often home to afternoon drinks. Please don't feel like you have to hide in your room while you're here, there is ample room to hang out regardless of if I'm in the house or not. Unlimited ADSL2+ internet and landline that has free calls to anywhere in Australia and a couple of overseas countries. There is a washing machine and place to hang out clothes. Interaction with GuestsXin and I both work so most days the house will often be yours until evening. I work at a travel agency and regularly book tours for my customers and am happy to give any suggestions and/or help you to book them... thats my job, its very easy to organise. Don't really go and party that much but same deal; am happy to give suggestions. I have a car and if i am going the same way as you or leaving at the same time am happy to give you a ride. You will have your own room and chill out space while at the apartment but guests (you!) are more than free to hang out throughout the house, stream a movie onto the living room TV, listen to music and of course lounge by the pools. **Please note.** I am recently getting many guests arriving into Cairns on the 0400am Cathay and jetstar flights and/or the Greyhound buses that are also arriving in at ungodly hours and/or departing at midnight. If you would like to arrive at that time I have no problem accommodating you likewise if you want to come back on the day you leave and hang out until your bus leaves that's no problem. I do however only have the one room so please let me know in advance and I'll block out the night before or the night after. The cost for this is $40AUD, which, to be honest, I think is absolutely worth it. Thank you The NeighborhoodWe're probably a 20-25 minute walk to the most central part of Cairns or 5-6 minutes in a car. That kind of distance is walkable but you may get sick of doing it twice a day. Its green outside and there are a couple of take-away places a very short walk away including a subway, a Japanese place and a pie shop, coffee shop and fish and chip place. This apartment is not right in the centre of town but it is easy to get there. It is 1.5klm to the water from our house and that is the beginning of the restaurants and shops etc along the esplanade. The airport is around 10-15 minutes ride or around $25-30 in a cab. Getting AroundWalking into town is possible, even I own a car i do it several times a week. It doesnt take that long (probably 20- 25 minutes to the water, slightly longer to the Casino and Reef Terminal) but I can imagine it will get old quickly if staying for a longer time. That's about a ten dollar cab, depending on where you're going. There is a bus outside that is one stop to town.... That should give you an idea of the distance, one stop. Please guys, you know yourselves better than i know you, if that is a far distance for you, maybe you would prefer staying somewhere that is closer than 1.5km to the water and beach and 2.4km to the Reef Fleet Terminal (less if you cut through the shopping centre). If that is a far distance for you you should consider that when choosing where to stay. I think the location is fine, I'm hardly a health-nut and i walk it, but location from CBD is the one thing that people mark down in the reviews. Other Things to NoteTo people that are new at using airbnb please note this is a "private room" listing. That means you are staying in the second room in my apartment, sharing the apartment with the owner, me. Also Our apartment is in a suburban street but is beside a walking path that sometimes has idiots walk past late at night that can make some noise. It doesnt wake my wife up but sometimes if I forget to close the window I occasionally hear them. They are not common but just giving you a heads up.

The NeighborhoodParramatta Park is one of the closest suburbs to Cairns City - within easy walking distance to the Esplanade, which is a scenic promenade that stretches for 2.5km and includes a swimming lagoon, waterfront boardwalks, BBQ areas and a children's water park. The Southern end of the 'Espy' comprises of cafes and restaurant's, clubs and bars, shopping plazas, entertainment centre, casino and reef terminal. Getting AroundMountainVues is located 5.8kms - 10 mins drive from Cairns International Airport and 1.5kms - 30 mins walk to Cairns Esplanade Cairns Central Shopping Centre is 1.4kms - 15 mins walk this is for grocery shopping (Coles supermarket) but convenience, liquor store and great Thai takeaway are closer. Bus service to city and Northern Beaches is an easy 10 min walk to Sheridan Street. MountainVues is centrally located to all tourist attractions in City Centre, Reef terminal, Tropical Tafe and Cairns Hospital. The SpaceI would like to share my home with you, a gorgeous tropical Queenslander (traditional wooden house) with a permaculture yard close to town. The house is located in Bungalow, which is only a 10 minute walk to town (Cairns Central). As public transport is not very good in Cairns you will enjoy this short walk, but you can also use one of my bikes to get around. The house has 2 bedrooms, one bathroom, a dining room, a living room and a beautiful front deck on which you will definitely enjoy hanging out! The available room has a huge inbuilt wardrobe. it also has a ceiling fan and aircon and all windows in the house have mosquito screens, which is a must in the tropics. the bed is a sofa bed that sleeps 2 people, but has a thick mattress on a slatted frame (see pics). My backyard is an established permaculture food yard. This means that there are always yummy tropical plants and fruit available (like paw paw, passion fruit, bananas, kasava, lemons, oranges and others depending on the season) and the variety of plants attracts loads of animals like birds, butterflies, stick insects, lizards and frogs. But they all remain in the yard so don't fear them! I have lived in Cairns for more than 7 years now, and the fact that I once came here as a tourist myself means that will be able to point you to the best tourist attractions but also the hidden treasures, that only locals know. Moreover I will be able to point you to the best bars, cafes and restaurants in town. The Esplanade, Cairns Central, The Marina are all within walking distance. The Apartment is located and overlooks Lilly Creek park bikeway that runs alongside the complex giving it a very tropical outlook from the living area located outside. This giving you a feeling of being in the tropics but still having the convenience of access to the areas of downtown. The bike path/ walkway that runs alongside Lilly Creek, you can use as a short cut walking into Cairns Central or The Esplanade. This is a link to Cairns Bicycle paths (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundBeing on the edge of the downtown precinct, you can walk/cycle or catch a bus to anywhere in the Cairns central area safely. As mentioned above I am located on one of many Cairns bicycle paths. You can catch a bus that is a 5 minute walk away and will take you several more blocks into downtown, please see maps in photo album. Otherwise the Esplanade is only a 6 block walk away,15-25 minutes depending on your fitness Have a look on G maps to get your bearings. Cairns Central Shopping Mall is 2 blocks away( train and buses for Kuranda leave from there) The reef fleet terminal for diving and snorkelling trips are 25-30 minute walk away pending on your fitness levels. Other Things to NoteAirport pick up and drop off are available if organised 2 days in advance of your stay. I will still definitely try pending on my work schedule and availability. Pickups that are before the check-in time are okay, I will drop you into the downtown area and bring your luggage back with me. Check-in is available after 10.30pm but I don't do airport pick ups after 10.30pm as I do have to usually work the next day. Drop offs are anytime up until your checkout time unless your on the 6.00am flights. Luggage can be stored here during certain periods and on further discussion until your ready to leave for the airport. There are shuttle buses and taxis as an alternative. Taxis are around $25 and shuttles vary from around $16 When booking tours, some companies will not pickup from residential addresses, please use The Citysider Holiday Apartments as your pick up location ( 5 minute walk on bike path) Cairns boosts beautiful warm winter days and slightly cool nights normally during the months of June through to September. The summer and what is known as the monsoon & Cyclone season starts to build up from October and goes through to April/May. Each season has it's own advantages and disadvantages pending on what you have come to Cairns to see and do. Do your research so you know what weather to expect generally, as the heat & humidity from November to March is quite high but a great time to go diving and the RainForrest is at its best during monsoon. Winters are very pleasant generally with no humidity and only cool to mild nights.

Everything included: Electricity, water, High speed optic fibre unlimited internet, bikes with helmet, lock and light, pay TV, linen, towels for the shower and also towels for the pool or for you to take to the Lagoon or Reef, free phone to local and Australia wide numbers, washing machine and powder, dryer, toilet paper, dishwashing products and a professional daily cleaner to all common areas. It is situated well away from the house behind a screen so are very safe. The Esplanade, Cairns Central, The Marina are all within walking distance. The Apartment is located and overlooks Lilly Creek park bikeway that runs alongside the complex giving it a very tropical outlook from the living area located outside. This giving you a feeling of being in the tropics but still having the convenience of access to the areas of downtown. The bike path/ walkway that runs alongside Lilly Creek can be used as a short cut walking into Cairns Central or The Esplanade and takes 5-10 minutes of(URL HIDDEN)maps times. This is a link to Cairns Bicycle paths (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundBeing on the edge of the downtown precinct, you can walk/cycle or catch a bus to anywhere in the Cairns central area safely,as mentioned above I am located on one of many Cairns bicycle paths. You can catch a bus that is a 5 minute walk away and will take you several more blocks into downtown, please see maps in photo album. Otherwise the Esplanade is only a 6 block walk away,15-25 minutes depending on your fitness Have a look on G maps to get your bearings. Cairns Central Shopping Mall is 2 blocks away( train and buses for Kuranda leave from there) The reef fleet terminal for diving and snorkelling trips are 25-35 minute walk away pending on your fitness levels. Other Things to NoteAirport pick up and drop off are available if organised 2 days in advance of your stay. I will still definitely try pending on my work schedule and availability. Pickups that are before the check-in time are okay, I will drop you into the downtown area and bring your luggage back with me. Check-in is available after 10.30pm but I do not do airport pick ups after 10.30pm, as I do usually work the next day. Drop offs are anytime up until your checkout time unless your on the 6.00am flights or earlier. Luggage can be stored here after checkout during certain periods and on further discussion until your ready to leave for the airport. There are shuttle buses and taxis as an alternative. Taxis are around $25 and shuttles vary from around $16 When booking tours, some companies will not pickup from residential addresses, please use The CitySider Holiday Apartments as your pick up location ( 5 minute walk on bike path)

We both live busy lifestyles. I live between Melbourne and Cairns, I am home most weekends, when i am not here, Joe manages Airbnb for me. We share the pool :) The NeighborhoodBungalow is a very unassuming neighbourhood. Its not much to look at but just so convenient to town. At one end of my street there is a quaint little community garden and at the other end there is a very reputable good coffee house that supplies coffee to the local region, my second favourite coffee in Cairns. Food available too. The CBD is only 5 mins by car ( $10-$12 in a taxi ) My favourite Thai restaurant is a 4 min walk and there is great cafe for breakfast/ lunch just a short drive or bike ride away. During the day there can be some noise from nearby business, however not often and at random times albeit respectable times. The evenings are peaceful ( expect for the neighbourhood dogs that sometimes have a bark off ) Please note is planning a day trip, Cairns is approximately 3 hours from the Daintree, 1.15 hour to Port Douglas, 40 mins to Palm Cove. 50 to Kuranda Getting AroundPublic transport leaves a lot to be desired in Cairns. There is a bus that will take you into the City however I highly recommend car rental for your stay in Cairns as there is just so many beautiful places to explore. If your here for a short stay, then i recommend you ride the bikes into town or catch a taxi.. its a bit too far to walk unless you really want the exercise ;) At the end of the street there is a bike path straight into town. Walking to shopping centre 20mins , esplanade 40 mins. I have 3 bikes with helmets and locks. Taxi from the airport is about $30. If you really want to take the bus, there is a bus stop a few mins walk away. Buses come once an hour and drop you into the centre of town. Other Things to NoteMy home is a very open plan unique space and exposed to the elements If you dont mind sweeping leaves off the deck, spiders in webs in the distant trees, the occasional bush cockroach, gecko poo or mind there sometimes leaves in the pool then you'll feel right at home and will love staying here. Also depending on the weather and season sometimes the mango trees can be super messy. We try our best to keep the deck and pool free of leaves or mess from the trees but the house is really high maintenance and surrounded my nature! sometimes its impossible to keep on top of making it super tidy and presentable! We scoop leaves out daily but within hours there are leaves in the pool AGAIN! Toilet is behind a wall, with a privacy screen. It is private however not completely enclosed. The wall is 2 metres high. I don't think an issue just letting you know as i have had a few enquiries ;)

Don't go buying food staples such as spices, use mine. The laundry is under the house, in less-than-princess conditions, but there is a washing machine and dryer for your use. The main computer in the house is available for your use and wireless wi-fi is limited but generally ample for travellers. We can all hear each other sneeze, particularly because the windows are always open. It is high density living and sometimes it can get a bit noisy and stay a bit noisy even after 10.30pm. So if it's a problem, close your windows, put the air conditioner on and it will fade into a city-hum. Getting AroundIf you don't arrive with a car, then perhaps you won't need one. A shuttle bus from the airport can drop you off or pick you up at the door. Only a stone's throw from the railway station, a skip to the shops, a bounce to the buses, a jog to the Esplanade and the Reef Terminal is only 6 blocks away. A short early morning walk if you are going to catch a ferry. However if you do have wheels then you can park under the house or on the street. Other Things to NoteThe house is high-set with 10 steps to the top. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned. My renovations are not going to happen quickly enough for your visit so I have to prepare you for less than perfect conditions. The front louvres are not water proof and rain can spray in a little, the plumbing in the bathroom complains about being used and the kitchen has limited bench space. My guests usually find it very relaxing a great refuge after a day out sightseeing. Please read the reviews to get a clearer picture of how comfortable it is.

          The SpaceClose to town, big apartment with heaps of space, good furniture, cable TV, good Internet (NBN), big sofas and big beds, two ensuites, just a cool place to stay, you might not want to leave! This unit is in one of the bigger (better) complexes in Cairns with a whole bunch of swimming pools (9 separate swimming pools!) and a manicured outdoor area you can get lost in. It also has a gym you can use and security guards on shift in the complex. I really don't think there's a better complex in Cairns, and certainly not this close to town. It takes just over 20 minutes walk to the water from the entrance to the complex or just over 30 minutes to walk to the Reef Terminal where the boats go to the reef. If you don't want to walk cabs are easy and cheap (you're so close) You have a full kitchen as well as a living and dining area and balcony to hang out and the two bedrooms two bathrooms. It's a full size 125m² apartment. Guest AccessThe whole place is yours so feel free to spread out amongst the two rooms, kitchen, living/dining area and balcony. There is a full kitchen which we have stocked with some normal kitchen things so feel free to cook up a storm. There is a balcony facing the mountains that gets the sunset every afternoon and of course all of the pools downstairs and are yours to laze by to your hearts content. There is also a full gym free to use. You will have a fob to get into the complex and your keys to get into your apartment. The apartment also has an underground garage spot if you are renting a car or have driven up. Interaction with GuestsXin and I live in the same complex, just across so unless I am at work if you call I can literally be around at the apartment in two minutes, one if i run. Ideally I like to be around to let you in and show you around etc however sometimes schedules and your flight times may not allow. We will discuss this via email when you book. I think the interaction thing is probably the best you can with airbnb.... you are going to have your own private place but if you want to have a chat, ask questions (or borrow something) I am just next door. The NeighborhoodI think it's fair to say our complex is very close to town. It is not in the most central area but that makes it quieter also. It is possible to walk to anywhere but I can understand walking into town twice a day might get old if you are doing it every day. From the apartment your looking at 20-25 minutes walk to the water and the Esplanade, the start of the restaurants etc. To get to the Reef Terminal (walking) is just over 30 minutes. Of course you can take a cab (around $10) that will come minutes after you call it or the bus (one stop). Our apartment complex as measured in my car and by internet maps is 1.5km from the entrance of the complex to the water and the start of all the restaurants that are there. There are several takeaway food places just across the main road including a bakery, a fish and chip place and a Subway. Cairns Central Shopping Centre, the biggest shopping centre in town with a Supermarket, K-mart, and heaps of other stuff is around one km away, very walkable. It is around 2.5km from your apartment to the reef terminal, where all the boats go to the Great Barrier Reef. That's around $10-12 in a cab. I can't believe I almost forgot to mention there is also a shop inside the complex that has chips, snacks, cleaning stuff and beers wine etc. They're not even that expensive and don't close until nine pm. They're pretty good and friendly too. Getting AroundAs I mentioned in the overview, it is possible to walk to town but you might tire of it if you have to do it twice everyday. There are buses coming from town but in my opinion (especially if their are several of you) you're better off in a taxi. They are quick, come straight away and usually cost under $10. If you are going to rent a car your apartment has your own car space under the building just next to the elevator to whisk you upstairs. I have a pushbike with helmet and lock you can use if you like, but only one, and not a very good one. Just ask... it's just sitting there. Other Things to NoteI have written this in the house rules but I will mention here also.... Cairns is basically still the jungle. We have built a small town here but really, its built on top of a rainforest. That means there are all sorts of things just waiting to get inside at your food. Thats not our apartment that is the entire of North Queensland. I strongly suggest putting all food away in containers (provided) or the fridge lest ants come and investigate. Same goes with cleaning up after dinner; ants will want to know what smelled so good if you dont clean up reasonably quick after dinner. I suggest wiping down all benches after a meal with the wipes and sprays i have provided. If you do this you are almost certain to not have any visitors.

I love to share my knowledge and tips for visiting far north Queensland. Included is a light tropical breakfast of (mostly) local produce. The NeighborhoodParramatta Park is very close to Cairns CBD (3klms - 30 min walk), and central to everything! Wharves, bus stations, shopping, bars and pubs. It is also leafy and quiet, with bike and walking tracks close by. Getting AroundOff street parking is available if you have a hire car. Buses are close by. Other Things to NoteThe house is high set with stairs front and back.

Cairns Central Shopping Centre is 15 min walk Cairns Esplanade is 15 min walk and lagoon about 25 min walk Please note that between December and March Cairns is very hot and humid and potentially wet so during this time walking more than 100 meters may not always be an option :) Plenty free parking on street outside the house and some visitor parking in gated complex If you want to get around Cairns and see all its beauty I suggest that the best way is to hire a car

Internet is available using a pre-paid USB LTE surf stick which can be picked up together with the keys from the rental agency. At the end of the Esplanade is Cairns harbour with many tourist trip offers for diving enthusiasts to the Great Barrier Reef and the surrounding Islands. For those who like nature, Cairns Botanic Gardens is just 10 minutes drive away for a fantastic display of tropical plants. Cairns Tropical Zoo and Aquarium are also sights well worth seeing. Outside of Cairns there are many other attractions you can visit during your stay such as visits to the Daintree Rainforest, Port Douglas - a beautiful harbour town which is about 30 minutes drive and the Kuranda Skyrail which goes over the Rainforest and is an adventure for the whole family.

We are 4km away from of the city and busy tourist hub, however, we are in one of the closest residential suburbs, so we have it good both ways. Quietness, yet not too far away from the action.
