The Spaceyou are in the heart of the Tasman Peninsula where the rural landscape meets the wilderness of the Tasman National Park. Nubeena with most amenities is the closest town only 10 minutes drive away. Port Arthur is 20 minutes drive away. Guest AccessGuests have access to a full Kitchen and Laundry. Guests may also use the nearby Authentic Sauna that is right next to the walking track start/finish. Interaction with GuestsGuests accommodation is almost 1km away from my house which can be seen. Its up to the guest how much they interact with me. I will always give guests their space but usually come check that all is good. The NeighborhoodThe thing I like about my neighborhood is that at times you can feel like its at the end of the world, while at the same time you have easy access to the modern world. I also like the wild and remote feeling of Stormlea. Sometimes the weather can really put on a show. The closest neighbor direct to the south are actually somewhere to the north (I think in Russia) as you go underneath Antarctica then head north to find a neighbor. Getting AroundThe nearest public transport goes to Nubeena. A car is almost a must but a bicycle is a bonus for those fit enough to tackle the hills. Other Things to Note(URL HIDDEN)DIRECTIONS Finding this place is usually straight forward. The most simple way is to follow a map and also arrive at a sensible time like daylight. Along with the scenery to see you also make life easier for the wildlife who suffer nightly from motorists. In the past some people have left it late driving around lost in the dark looking for us and following a dashboard navigator that gets them even more lost. We even had a carload of people booked in who could not find us at all and ended up sleeping in their car. So its important to start your quality time away with a good introduction and that will definitely start with a relaxed, scenic daytime drive to get here. From Hobart allow at least 2 hours drive. This allows time for a good break. allow more if you want to check other things on the way. From Hobart drive towards Sorrell. This is the last major town with big shops. Then on to Port Aurthur. From there head towards Nubeena. 2km before Nubeena on your left at a pear orchard you will find Stormlea rd. Its marked Stormlea 9, Highcroft 3. The walking tracks are also marked here!!! Now drive all the way to the end of Stormlea Rd. Its 9km long. At any major turn off there are walking track signs to follow. Drive past the walking track car park and here you will find some wooden gates and my driveway #925, Happy Navigating!!

The Three Capes walk, (Cape Hauy, Cape Rauol and Cape Pillar) which is being touted as the best short walk in the world by some of the international travel books is easily accessed from here. If we are able to arrange convenient drop-off / pick-up points we would be willing to help with guests staying staying for more than one day and wishing to do longer walks. We are within convenient reach of Port Arthur with its historical and ghost hunting facilities (30 minutes drive). The Coal Mines are also of historical and birding interest and Lime Bay is another birding and walking area worth visiting. All of these and many other places are a must to see - Devils Kitchen, Tasman Blowhole, Tasman Arch, Waterfall Bay and fairy penguins to mention just a few to wet your appetite - all just a 10 or 15 minute drive away. I have visited and walked around many of these areas and can give more information to guests if they require it. Getting AroundThere is a once-a-day bus from Hobart to Nubeena return which stops at Murdunna store and we would be happy to pick-up and drop-off guests if we are able to do so. However, preferably guests should have their own transport to get around and take full advantage of the area. Other Things to NoteWe can accommodate extra guests in fold-out beds if required. So can take more than two guests. Enquire about additional alternative accommodation. We keep chickens and have our own vegetable and fruit garden and we make our own jam and bottled produce and when available serve it for breakfast together with our delicious free range freshly laid chicken eggs The Forestier Peninsula where our home is located is a quiet, beautiful and peaceful area where guests can relax away from the noise and bustle of city life. However, please note that here there are limited shopping facilities south of Sorell and restaurants close early (sometimes 4pm) so it is better to buy provisions in Sorell if you want to prepare your own dinner or one can eat out at one of the two local hotels (approximately 10 - 15 minutes drive from our house). The hotel kitchens normally serve dinner between 6pm and 8pm but times should be checked.

Wildwood Retreat is a beautifully appointed fully self contained one bed luxury apartment that offers city comfort in a stunning rural setting! Wildwood retreat lies in its own private kingdom surrounded by 50 acres of pristine native Eucalypt forest (on 3 sides) in the bucolic idyll of Koonya that lies on the banks of cascade Bay on the spectacular Tasman Peninsula. The retreat enjoys stunning views over rolling pasture to Cascade Bay and Norfolk Inlet with mountain backdrop. A 'perfect picture box scene' where the light and mood changes constantly! The retreat adjoins Wildwood (our home) BUT is fully self contained and enjoys its own private driveway, garden area and entry so guests can relax and come and go at their leisure. NOTE: The retreat is designed as a couples retreat however does have a double sofa bed in the upper level living area for an occasional extra guest. Though we provide a mattress topper for the sofa bed it will not offer the same level of comfort as a proper bed. There is a beautiful modern stainless steel and timber spiral staircase in the retreat lobby/entry area that leads guests up to the spacious contemporary open plan living/kitchen/dining area on the second level. However a breakfast hamper may be available subject to availability at an extra cost (conditions apply). The retreat is not suitable for people with disabilities or serious physical challenges. The area around the immediate property is relatively flat, however beyond the garden area the land is steep, the ground uneven, there is an open dam, unfenced stone terraces and stone steps to negotiate. Special care needs to be taken in Tasmania's wild places! Guest AccessGuests have their own parking area, garden area and entry area and will exclusive use of the retreat. Our guests comfort, privacy and happiness however is of the utmost importance to us! If we are here we would of course love to greet you but we are often away or working and so this may not always be possible. If we miss your arrival we won't disturb you unnecessarily, but please send us a text (or we will text you) to ensure that you are happy and that you have everything you need! We want absolutely to promote a sense of peace and seclusion and privacy at Wildwood and appreciate some guests may not wish to interact! If guests do - that is fabulous too, but we leave that decision in our guests hands! The NeighborhoodWildwood Retreat is situated in a beautiful and private rural/wilderness location. Koonya lies on the Port Arthur Tourist route and is about a 15 minute drive to both Port Arthur and Eagle Hawk Neck and local facilities in Nubeena. Koonya is central to accessing ALL activities and facilities. Many tourists choose to just do a day tour to Port Arthur Historic Site and they miss out hugely for there are many wonderful things to do here on the Tasman Peninsula. Here are some of my suggestions: 1. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site (perhaps even a ghost tour!) 2. Visit the Coal Mines Historic Site at Saltwater River … its much smaller than Port Arthur but is also interesting and free and is in a beautiful location! 3. Take an award winning boat trip with Pennicott Wilderness Tours that explores the coast from Eaglehawk Neck to Tasman Island: see seal colonies, giant kelp forests, whales (in season), albatross, sea eagles, the famous Totem Pole and the highest cliffs in the southern hemisphere. 4. Visit Port Arthur Lavender: browse the gift shop, then have a spot of lunch whilst enjoying stunning views of the inlet 5. Take a class at or visit the award-winning Mchenry Distillery at Port Arthur 6.. Take lunch at Garbielle's on the Bay at Taylor, Port Arthur OR award-winning Dunalley Waterfront Cafe and Gallery a 30 min drive away! 7. Explore Pirates Bay and other sites at Eaglehawk Neck including the rare geological formation of the Tesselated pavements, the convict 'Dog Line' and Officers quarters museum. Drive through the quirky doo town on your way to see the Devils Arch, Waterfall look out and the Blow Hole or enjoy some of the best fish and chips in Tasmania at "Doolishus". 8. Explore Tasman National Park - including the beautiful Fortescue Bay a large section of the Three Capes Walking Track offering sensational walks and views (2 phases now complete). 9. Explore the many coves and beaches on the peninsula including Safety Cove, Remarkable Caves, Stewarts Bay, Lime Bay and Sloping Main. 10. Enjoy some deep sea fishing or diving amongst the giant sea kelp forests 11. Para glide from the aerie at EagleHawk Neck - where many visitors and locals have seen (subject to the right conditions) the southern lights 12. Visit the Tasmanian Devil Park, Fudge Factory and local museum in Taranna 13. Just sit back, relax and de-stress with a glass of wine whilst enjoying the stunning views from the property …bliss! Getting AroundGuests will need their own vehicle. Public Transport is virtually non existent. There is a taxi service - Brian based in Murdunna and he is a blossom. Other Things to NoteWe are battling the native fur balls with respects to our new landscaping and the extended area on the land and driveway in is still being landscaped, however this will NOT impact on your stay, private areas or enjoyment of the property.

You can enjoy this comfortable light and airy beach cottage offering one of the very best panoramic views you will see at White Beach on the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania. White Beach is a wonderful base for a busy holiday schedule. It is around 10km to Port Arthur, one of Australia's top tourist attractions. The Port Arthur site entry fee will let you explore over 2 days with its 24 hour ticket. Experience the ghost tour after dark. Several day walks are within a half hour drive from the cottage to the start of the walk. Spend a day walking out to Cape Raoul, or at low tide visit stunning Shipstern Bluff. If you haven't time for the whole walk, at least make it to the look-out for the most stunning views. Cape Hauy offers spectacular scenery and extensive track work has made this a very popular day walk. Fortescue Bay also offers creative opportunities for those who like to paint, draw or photograph. If you are up for it, surf at Roaring Beach or Shipstern Bluff. Take a picnic and visit other beaches on the Peninsula, including Slopen Main and Shelly Beach. The historic Coal Mines at Saltwater River is also an excellent convict piece of history to wander around for free. Once again the views there are truly amazing. Don't forget to leave time for visiting the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo park and the Federation Chocolate Factory at Taranna. When you are ready for some food or a coffee visit the Port Arthur Lavender Farm. While at the cottage, relax in the morning sun while enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the spacious deck. Take in the fantastic beach and water views of the bay here at White Beach. Observe boats bobbing on their moorings or out for a spot of southern flathead fishing. The calm waters of the bay are also enjoyed by water-skiers, jet skiers and numerous kayakers. If you are bringing a boat you will find room in the back yard for easy parking. White Beach itself is excellent for long walks to clear away the cobwebs. It is less than 500 metres to the little beach. Once on the little beach, at low tide it is an easy scramble past the boat sheds and rocks onto the main beach. Enjoy beach combing for shells and be sure to spend time exploring the rock pools for crabs, starfish and sea anenomes. White Beach has firm sand which also makes it really pleasant for a run or a bike ride. If the weather should turn wet or cool, relax on the couch and read, play board games, cards or watch dvds (plenty available, suited to all ages). There is plenty of lighting so if you bring your knitting, crocheting or stitching you will be able to see well enough to do these at night. Perhaps you have the urge to whip up a batch of scones or cinnamon scrolls because the fresh sea air activities have given you an appetite. The kitchen is well equipped with a mix-master, measuring utensils, bowls and tins for these spontaneous urges to bake. The kitchen has a dishwasher to aid a quick clean-up. The fridge is a large family sized one with a generous sized freezer on top. Other cooking appliances include an electric wok, electric rice cooker, electric grill for perfect toasted sandwiches and those other meals when you don't want to use the bbq (which is conveniently located on the deck). There is a coffee machine, coffee plunger, a (decent) teapot and a variety of teas for fellow tea lovers. There are three bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed and the other two bedrooms contain bunk beds, both with the bottom bed being a double bed and a single bed on top. We understand many pets are one of the family, but please do let us know if you are travelling with pets and will have them with you at Penguins. Why Penguins for a name? Once inside the cottage, the reason becomes clear. However, there are penguin colonies on the Tasman Peninsula, and information regarding where to view the Little (Fairy) Penguin is given in the information booklet at the cottage. The Tasman Peninsula is abundant in bird life. Often you will see black swans, especially in the water around Premaydena. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are frequent visitors in the banksia trees around the cottage. Honey-eater birds enjoy the nectar of the grevilea bushes. Brightly-coloured green parrots, galahs, wrens and finches are regularly sighted and swallows return in the Spring. Kookaburras frequently perch on the railing of the deck and eye you off with great curiosity. At dusk or early morning, small marsupials including the Eastern barred bandicoots burrow in the front yard, while Bennetts wallabies, paddy melons and other marsupials graze on the grass. Often echidnas and blue-tongue lizards wander through the yard and under the cottage. We hope you enjoy your stay in our fun and pleasant cottage here in our beautiful state of Tasmania. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to ask. The highest sea-cliffs in Australia are on the Tasman Peninsula. In June you September you may see whales in many of the waters surrounding the Tasman Peninsula. Penguins offers guests spectacular views of the beach and bay, less than 500 metres away. The cottage is quickly heated if the weather should be cold. Great hot showers in clean rain water. Spacious kitchen. Large deck & bbq. Surrounded by bird and bush life. Relax. A terrific cottage for a family group, to comfortably accommodate several adults and children.

The SpaceThis iconic, absolute waterfront property combines history, a tranquil bay frontage, comfort, a yummy breakfast and personal service and is recommended by Lonely Planet, The Greenwood Guide and Trip Advisor. Built in 1838 as part of the Port Arthur penal settlement, this beautiful old house now provides comfortable heritage accommodation within an easy drive of Port Arthur and the many attractions of the Tasman Peninsula. Norfolk Bay Convict Station was Australia's first railway station. Ships bound for Port Arthur from Hobart faced a dangerous journey across Storm Bay and round Cape Raoul. It was much safer to stay in the sheltered waters of Norfolk Bay, unload at the Convict Station and then load goods and passengers into rail carts and transport them five miles (8kms) across land where they could be unloaded and rowed to Port Arthur. The Port Arthur Historic site is a 10 minute drive away from the Norfolk Bay Convict Station. It stands right on the waterfront of Little Norfolk Bay (look for the jetty as you travel into the township of Taranna and we are at the end of the jetty) and is ideally located for a visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site or any of the many other historic sites along the Convict Trail. We are also centrally located as a base for appreciating the natural attractions of the Tasman Peninsula. Walking in the Tasman National Park ('the best coastal walking in Australia'), take a guided bush walking tour, go kayaking, horse riding, fishing, deep sea diving. Or simply fish from the jetty or relax with a glass of wine in our lovely gardens and enjoy the views from the veranda of the house. All rooms are warm and comfortable, with an historic charm without compromising on comfort. Breakfasts are hearty and feature home grown produce. * Historic home, restored and refurbished * Hearty continental breakfast included in the tariff with home made breads and jams, fresh fruit (from our garden when in season), preserved fruit, yogurt, muesli and a range of cereals, juices and bottomless plunger coffee and pots of tea. We also offer a full country cooked breakfast * A cosy sitting room with games, reference books on the local area and a general interest library * Comfortable beds with electric blankets, extra blankets and heating in all rooms * Every room has its own private (not shared) bathroom, most with ensuite bathrooms * Every room has its own Flat Screen TV and DVD Player, clock radio, Tea & Coffee making facilities and refrigerator * Licensed for beers and wines for guests and we stock a good range of local wine, cider and beer * High chair and cot available *Free massage chair on site. NOTE: Cancellations must be made by no later than 6pm, seven days prior to the reserved date or the full tariff due for the booking will be charged. Guest AccessIn addition the their own bedrooms, guests can access the guest sitting room which has a large library, DVD collection, games, complementary Port and Sherry and a wood fireplace. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and access to our Massage chair is also free. Guests may use the dining room after breakfast and have access to our large commercial kitchen and outside gas BBQ. Enjoy a wonder on our acre block. We are licensed to serve alcohol to our guests so sip a drink on the veranda overlooking the Bay or stroll down to the jetty opposite the property and drown a few worms (we have fishing gear and bait available for guests). Interaction with GuestsWe are the owners of this property and we live onsite, retiring to our upstairs apartment at night. The NeighborhoodThe area is tranquil and serene and just 50 meters from our front door to the edge of the water and Jetty. Getting AroundYou really need a car to get around down here. There are bus services from Hobart to Port Arthur. However, without a car you would then not be able to see the many attractions in the area as there is no public transport on the Tasman Peninsula and it is a rural area.

The NeighborhoodThere are restaurants in Nubeena 10k away, or Pt Aurthur 20k away. Its usually a very quiet neighborhood where the wallaby's and other wildlife far outnumber the people. The SpaceThe cabin consists of one bedroom, fitted with a very comfortable king size bed and a well equipped kitchen/living room. The bathroom has a spacious shower, separate room for a toilet and includes a washing machine. The two main rooms are 16m2 each in size. Whilst the cabin is ideally suitable for a couple it can accommodate a young child/ baby. We have both a bassinet and port-a-cot available (plus highchair and baby bath). We also have two small mattresses that can go on the floor. The bathroom interconnects the two rooms but we've professionally designed a large privacy screen which can be drawn across bathroom to allow folk to shower in peace should others walk between the two rooms. Please chat to us beforehand if wanting to book with young children to see if suitable for your kids and the surrounds of a hobby farm. Very occasionally snakes are spotted. Water holes are fenced off but not to those who really want to get in (many many kids visit our place and it has never been an issue - we don't want to scare you off but we'd like to make sure parents are aware of these points). The cabin is timber but clad in rendered strawbale. It's at the back of our main house. From the garden you overlook Rushy Lagoon which fills with water in the wetter months and has great birdlife including black swans, swamp harriers, various ducks, native hens and loads of singing frogs. Down our driveway you cross the road and are directly onto Pipe Clay Lagoon. When the tide is out you can walk along the edge down to the village of Cremorne in minutes. You have the option of taking a swim either on the lagoon or beach side. We've bikes and boogie boards available to loan out for you to head to the beach. It's only a 5 minute cycle away. We love our small farm. When we first came it was just a very big paddock sub-divided from the original farm of the township of Cremorne; now we've built it up with many trees, vegetable garden and orchard. Space is a luxury we have so if you are touring with a caravan or tent and would like to have a little more comfort of our cabin just get in touch and we can work this out with you for a reasonable fee. Guest AccessThe cabin has its own allocated garden area and own entrance separate from the main house. We kindly ask guests to park vehicles near our parking area and not on the grass. Interaction with GuestsThe cabin is self-contained and if there is anything missing, please just ask and we’ll see if we can help out. We're always keen to improve the experience. More often than not we'll also be at home (after work) to help you with any of your queries. During some of the holiday periods we may not be here but have someone close by for you to call on. When you are in the cabin we'll leave you to your own space and to maintain it during your stay. We really enjoy meeting people and so too our children - how much interaction you would like is up to you! Whilst the cabin is in view of the main house with its own separate entry it offers a good deal of privacy. If you have a long stay there is adequate linen/ towels etc for a fresh change. Just change the old ones and we'll give them a wash. The NeighborhoodCremorne varies from beautiful still autumn days to wild spring weather, scorching summers and nippy clear night sky winters (and sometimes all of those things in any one day!) The trifecta appeal is that: 1) It is located in the semi-rural area of the South Arm Peninsula which includes other small coastal villages, great walks and artists 2) Has the beach at its doorstep, and 3) Has convenience of Hobart only 25 minutes drive away and airport about 20 minutes. As part of this trifecta the farm is located in some great landscape - it is nestled between salt water Pipe Clay Lagoon which opens onto the Cremorne main beach and the wetland of Rushy Lagoon with Mt Wellington in the background. From the cabin the main beach is about 1.5km away, which can be reached by walking along the lagoon edge (when tide is out or via road) which is right at the end of the drive way to the farm. It's a quick cycle on one of our bikes you can loan or a short walk. The village can seem sleepy but has a wonderful sense of community which is why we love living here. With only 260 households there is much opportunity to get to know many people. The local Bowls Club offers a place to have a bowl, drink or meal on dedicated nights. Monday mornings also offers playgroup and there is also a playground. Pipe Clay Lagoon is popular for kayaking and its shallow waters are great for kids. It opens onto the beach which generally has gentle surf. There are a number of beaches in close proximity for those who like to catch bigger waves. About 5 minutes drive away is the larger township of Lauderdale. It includes the great Hill St Grocer for your food needs; the Shoreline Tavern for a pub meal or to browse its great range of wines which includes many local varieties; and Eating on the Edge Italian restaurant. It’s a great spot to be based to visit the many attractions within and around Hobart and Southern Tasmania or to just stay put and relax in the immediate local area or in the garden. Check out the local page maintained by the Cremorne Community Group to find out more about Cremorne. The South Arm SAPRA page provides more info about the South Arm Peninsula. The Clarence City Council website gives you information about the wider area including the Tangara Trail * which is popular for walking, cycling and horse riding. * Tanagara Trail (info taken from local Council website): Tangara' is an Aboriginal word meaning, "Let's get away together" and is the name given to the main recreational trail network in Clarence from Five Mile Beach, near Hobart Airport, to South Arm. The Tangara Trail comprises a main corridor intersected by many other trails and offers over 80 connected kilometres of enjoyable riding through scenic coastal reserves, undulating semi-rural country and small seaside villages. The Tangara Trail is growing, with new sections being added every year. It is becoming recognised as one of the best multi-use trail systems in Australia. It is available for use by horse riders, walkers and mountain bike riders Getting AroundPublic transport is available - you can wave the bus down at our driveway. Ask the driver and they'll also let you off there. The bus comes only to Cremorne a few times a day (but has more services from nearby Lauderdale) and does take longer to get into Hobart but if you want to be out all day (maybe enjoy a beer or wine) and you make sure you keep your eye on the time - it's a great service. (Pre-kids we used to catch it daily to work). Go to the Metro Tasmania page to find details. A taxi trip is about $70 one way from Hobart. Similar from the airport. There is ample space for parking - see the Extra Details section below if you have a caravan or campervan you wish to use. To and from the airport - it's an easy 20 minute drive away. You leave the airport, take Tasman Hwy leading into Hobart, take the first exit about 2km along, follow signs to Seven Mile Beach/ Lauderdale along Acton Rd (you need to go to Lauderdale), once at cross road at South Arm Hwy turn left down to Lauderdale, drive about 5 minutes and take left turn into Cremorne onto Cremorne Ave. Follow directions to our house (we will provide upon booking). Other Things to NoteWe apologise that the cabin is not suitable for wheel chair access. We realise many people wish to travel with their pets, however, because of our own farm animals and much of our property has a conservation covenant pets are not allowed - Guide-dogs of course most welcome. We can be flexible regarding check-in and check-out depending on previous and up-coming bookings. Just ask us!
