The SpaceBlue Gum Lodge is set within 100 acres of its own private forest and is completely surrounded by native bush. With a beautiful creek full of giant tree ferns, plenty of tracks through the forest and even a waterfall, there's plenty to explore right from the back door. The native trees on the property are predominately Eucalyptus with the most common species being Blue Gum and Stringy Bark. Turn on the outside lights at night, sit back on the deck and smile at the antics of the nocturnal Pademelons (a type of small Kanagaroo), Bennett's Wallabys & Brush-tailed Possums, Echidna, Owls, Wedge tailed Eagles, Bandicoot, amazingly all these animals are living around us every day. The wildlife around the Lodge is relatively tame and come out and around the house most often at dusk and dawn. Many of our guests have been truly enchanted by the Australian native wildlife seen at such close range, a unique Australian bush experience. Guest AccessBlue Gum Lodge has been designed with peace and relaxation in mind. There is a DVD/ TV for watching, or instead you could read a book while curled-up in front of the fire or listen to your favourite CD’s. There is a large modern bathroom with an electric hot water heater, bathtub and a shower with majestic sea views. The open plan kitchen has all amenities from an old wood burning Aga to a modern electric oven and is fully equipped for self-catering. All linen is of a high quality and includes feather down doonah’s, blankets, pillows and towels. Interaction with GuestsWe have a caretaker who will be available if you call or need any help, but we do not interact with guests and offer complete privacy. Other Things to NotePrevious Reviews Night-time animal visits and day-time bird song, were an unforgettable part of this wonderful week. Thank you for the opportunity to discover this wonderful part of Tasmania. Jacquiline & Phillip. We both feel so relaxed, thank you for providing the perfect place to relax amongst the forest. Depending on the prevailing winds and seas there are several surfing spots near the property. Guest AccessYou are able to walk over most of the 1.5 ha of the property. Interaction with GuestsI normally have a drink on the deck of the main house with guests when they arrive and explain what is in the area. I also will normally show you through the accommodation and explain how things work. Apart from that it is up to you if you want to socialise further or keep to your own space. Getting AroundYou will need your own transport if you wish to stay at my property. It is in a semi rural environment and there are no public transport options. The SpaceThe drive up the hill to Seaview through bush is always rewarded by suddenly coming to the expansive view of the East Coast. High up on a small plateau with lush green fields it is like coming into another world where most feel an immediate state of relaxation and contentment. This, on a sunny, still day, is a paradise. But even in rain and wind there is an escape to cosy wood fires and in the warmth one can still gaze at the magnificent views. Guest AccessThis is a working farm so there are certain areas that are out of bounds so please ask. Interaction with GuestsWe always meet and greet. And we are able to show guests the pet sheep and other animals, give information about the local area and have long discussions if they are interested in healthy food and the environment. And sometimes even share meals with guests. We are always here for guest queries and any asistance they have relating to the accommodation. We also will prepare some meals such as slow cooked leg of lamb but need prior booking for this. We realize some people do not appreciate much interference from hosts in their holiday - so after the initial information and meet and greet we leave it to guests as to how much interaction they prefer. The NeighborhoodWe live in a small rural community eight kms from the small village of St Marys. Our farm, of 300 acres and the neighbouring farm of approx. 150 acres makes up the cleared land that constitutes German Town. Here are four permanent residences and two part time. Guests can experience farm life as well as the surrounding bush and walk to a spectacular South Sister lookout with 360 degree view. Guests from Singapore, Hong Kong and other places where they do not need a fire for warmth, can also have the exotic experience of lighting a fire and sitting by its glow.. St Marys is a quaint old village and has many attractions as does the whole of the Fingal Valley. Further afield for day trips guests can experience the Freycinet and Douglas Apsley National Parks, Bay of Fires, Pyengana Cheese Factory where cows milk themselves and the St Columba falls, among many other attractions. Getting AroundThere is no public transport in this area. Guests will have to provide their own. Getting to here from the airport, if they do not rent a car, a weekday bus goes from the airport to Launceston then to St Marys where guests will be picked up by prior notification. But this severely restricts their ability to see the wider area. and attractions so it is recommended that guests have their own transport. Being on a farm parking is never a problem. Other Things to NoteIf you love the environment, if you love knowing how healthy meat and blueberries are produced, if you love a taste of older slower times, if you love spectacular scenery and a place for reflection, relaxation and exploration, then Seaview Farm will not disappoint.
