The SpaceThis is the kind of place that you would go to if you don't want to be in the city or if you're from overseas and want to see a part of Australian history in the form of a small agricultural and old gold mining town it still has many of the old mine shafts visible. There is a push bike here for you to use so you can cycle around the roads of the town. If you like hiking there are several small mountains around Clunes that I'll just lovely to climb up and see the view. If you're a student of mature age this might be the perfect place to get away to study and relax for a weekend. If you're workaholic you might want to come here just to meditate and do day trips to the spas at Daylesford for relaxation and contemplation. In the summer the local pool is actually warmed gently by solar panels making it very soothing for a swim. In the autumn the lovely old English trees turn orange, red, yellow and amber and the leaves fall gently on the ground so that going for a walk is a simple joyful experience. Even in winter if you rug up warm and get the outdoor fireplace burning you can read books, study, bring a romantic partner and talk beneath the stars... And best of all spring is when Clunes comes alive and the flowers and the trees burst into life and a sense of wonder and possibility fill the town. I'm a psychotherapist, counsellor and spiritual man so my house is full of books on healing, spirituality and self development - if you want a place to go away to so that you can evolve this is it. Finally the annual international Clunes Booktown festival is held here. Pine lodge is an awesome hideaway hut to stay at as you drift through the bookshops on an enchanted Autumn afternoon. There are so many reasons to stay at Pine Lodge. Guest AccessHot bubble baths Beautiful bush walks A cosy comfortable bed. GLBTI Friendly Interaction with GuestsIm often away working in Melbourne during the week so minimal interaction. The NeighborhoodInitially as you arrive it may not look like too much as the landscaping has not been started yet however inside Pine Lodge is warm cozy and rich in colour! The quiet "far from the city" peacefulness. Waking up to the sound of magpies early in the morning The many different beautiful walks you can take in the area - up mountains beside creeks and along beautiful old roads. The view of Mount Beckworth and the exhilarating 40 minute walk up if you choose to. An assortment of local farmers markets in Clunes Talbot, Keynton, Ballarat etc. and only 35 km from the stunning Daylesford shops and galleries as well An ever expanding variety of coffee shops and cafés in the area and the main street for cozy brunch and breakfasts. You can get a great coffee here! A very friendly and growing LGBTI community. Who play Pétanque in the town square - Collins Place on a Sunday afternoon once a month. Ask owner for details. There's a milk bar 20 meters from the front door of Pine Lodge where you can get anything you need till 8pm at night. Getting AroundWe are very lucky to have the Clunes train station recently opened up so you can take a train directly from Melbourne city and get off in Clunes if needed I can organize to have you picked up from the train station and brought to Pine Lodge as well. Other Things to NoteIn this area there are many things to do such as visit Soverign Hill in Ballarat or the Botanical gardens and Lake Wendouree. If you take a short drive to Smeaton just 16 km away you will find the gorgeous old Anderson's Mill where you can have a romantic day or a picnic. Again just 20 km towards Maryborough is Talbot where you will find the Talbot markets on the third Sunday of each month and Clunes now too has a once a month Farmers market - check online to get the dates. There is a well established museum in the Main Street - The William Barkell Center. There are several bric-a-brac and antique stores in the town. A beautiful creek winds through Clunes that has a bridge and walkway beside it and in the middle of town and is gorgeous to walk beside in Autumn as the leaves change color. If you drive for 30 or 40 minutes beyond Clunes you will find many old gold towns with beautiful cafés and craft shops such as Maldon and Keynton. Pine Lodge is an affordable and comfortable base for you to explore the beautiful Hepburn region.

The Maryborough Railway Station is a sight not to be missed, you can't help but appreciate its grandour. Some say Maryborough, is a town attached to a railway station! For those who love our history, Clunes is just 15 mins away and is famous for the buildings that line the Main Street, as filmed in many historic movies. Local wineries abound as do the scenic walking trails. Spot kangaroos in their natural habitat! Bird life aplenty and picturesque views as you travel through the area.

Increasingly in the past 10 years Clunes is known for its Book Town Festival held early May each year. You'll have full access to the house and surrounds, but not to the garage or gazebo out the back. Interaction with GuestsWe will leave a key in the key safe for you. The neighbours are available for you to call if you have any urgent issues during your stay. The NeighborhoodThe indigenous people of this area named this place "Korweinguboora", meaning "place of many springs". The property has a natural spring running a underneath it, which we use to pump water to the fruit trees in summer. The house is on the corner of the wombat state forest, with few neighbours, so it is very quiet and private. The loudest noises you'll hear are the birds in the morning and the horses cantering back to the neighbour's house at dusk. Getting AroundIt's a 10 minute drive to town, where there are great places to eat and shop. We recommend you have a car when you visit, as public transport to the area is infrequent. Other Things to NoteThe chickens lay daily and you are most welcome to enjoy the eggs. You can even let them out for a peck around provided they go back in before night time. There is very patchy mobile phone reception, but we have a land line and wireless internet available to all guests.
