The SpaceThe Old Timboon Library has been fully renovated to offer a brand new 2 bedroom apartment in the Timboon CBD. The whole place is yours! Timboon is 20 minutes from Port Campbell and down the road from the 12 Apostles and the Great Ocean Road. Timboon is a quintessential Aussie town; it is the local hub of the region with a hospital, school and old ladies with a rug over their knee selling raffle tickets out front of the supermarket. Maintaining original wooden floors and exposed beams, streams of natural light show off a a new kitchen (with everything you need), funky period furniture in the living/dining area and two Queen rooms (with linen supplied). Complete with split system heating/cooling, the Old Timboon Library Apartment is smack bang in the middle of the 12 Apostles Gourmet Food Trail. In The Age newspaper May 2012, it was written: "After stashing the fillets of meat in a fridge at Pebble Point, we drive towards Timboon, home of some of the most popular parts of the food loop. With about 800 residents, Timboon is, by the Princetown measuring stick, a metropolis. Jodi and I top up our haul of meat with cheese from French-born Matthieu Megard at L'Artisan Cheese. The tasting shot(s) of whisky at the Timboon Distillery are enough to run off thoughts of an afternoon siesta, at least for me. We buy more local produce at the Fat Cow. This place of good food, a cafe, isn't on the food trail but includes curries made from scratch and pies made by the owners, Tod and Lisa, who are both chefs. Here is also a selection of produce from the food trail." The the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery, Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Fat Cow Cafe, Berry World, Mouse Trap Cafe L'Artisan Cheese are all minutes away. The quintessential Timboon Pub, banks, supermarket, and other amenities are all in walking distance. Timboon has an 18 hole golf course and the Rail Trial passes 20 metres from the front door! Food hampers, flowers and the like are available on request. Just ask. Guest AccessWhole house. Easy check in. Full kitchen. Laundromat down the street. Two TV's. Sunny balcony. Off street parking. No Neighbours, no hassles, total privacy. Interaction with GuestsOften as required and fast responses. The NeighborhoodThis is honest Australia in a true village. While close to the Great Ocean Road, very few tourists. A very honest town with everything you need without things you don't want.

Getting AroundTrain then Bus from Melbourne 3 hour drive to Melbourne Other Things to NoteBe aware it’s lousy mobile phone reception unless you’re with Telstra. Port Campbell wide The water’s from a local bore with a high mineral content. Some like it, some buy bottled. The local store is okay but closes early in winter. Foodies will drive to Timboon to stock up. Meat eaters claim it’s an excellent butcher, the IGA is well stocked and there’s a good gourmet food outlet. The SpaceLess than five minutes from the centre of Timboon; the apartment is secluded and self-contained. It is of an older "RUSTIC" style and a great place for a relaxed affordable break. * Completely separate from the main house ( which is about 50 meters away), the apartment is clad in corrugated iron and has been built at the end of a working farm machinery shed. * Nights are very quiet, and when the sky is cloudless the stars are amazing. * Koalas and kangaroos are sometimes seen on the gravel bush road leading to the property. Guest Access* The 2 bedrooms, fitted with ceiling fans, are upstairs via the enclosed external stairs. Bedroom 1 : Queen bed Bedroom 2 : Double (brass) bed & 1 single bed Full & private use of the self contained apartment including: * Open plan kitchen / dining/ lounge with gas heater. * Kitchen with family sized fridge, microwave and gas oven. Light breakfast basket supplied ( i.e., cereal and toast). * Laundry with front loader washer, dyer and outside clothes line. * Downstairs bathroom with shower and toilet. * Undercover car parking in the machinery shed. NB: please indicate when booking the configuration of beds you would like; if this is not obvious. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be welcomed upon arrival (or suitable arrangements made). The privacy of guests will be respected and additional contact with host, although always welcomed, will be at the desire of guests. The NeighborhoodThere is much to experience & explore ! 5 minutes or less by car... * Timboon - a unique small rural town with an emerging reputation for great food, coffee, ice-cream, home made cakes and whiskey produce. * "Camperdown - Timboon Rail Trail" - great to walk or cycle. ( Bicycle hire available). A must see is the restored railway trestle bridge; built to cross the Curdie's River in the 1890's. * Strawberry farm to pick your own berries ( in season) * Timboon Golf Club - guests always welcome! 20 - 45 minutes drive.... * Port Campbell National Park with spectacular sights, including the 12 Apostles. * Great Ocean Road towns of Port Campbell and Peterborough. * "Boggy Creek Pub" - an historic sandstone hotel on the Curdies River at Curdievale. * "12 Apostles Gourmet Trail" including local cheese, wine, and chocolate produced on farm. * Warrnambool - the regional city. Whale watch (in season) and attend the popular "May Races". * Camperdown - historic streetscapes and festivals ( Robert Burns, Rocakbilly). Getting AroundTimboon is just over 200 kms from Melbourne. There is a frequent train service Melbourne to Camperdown, but then only a limited bus service to bring travellers to Timboon. Timboon Taxi service can meet the train, but perhaps the best way around is with your own car. For bike riders, the Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail is a great way of exploring the local area. A popular trip is to get the train from Melbourne to Camperdown and then ride on the Rail Trail to Timboon. Other Things to NoteA part of Timboon's appeal is that it is a small Australian country town in a beautiful setting. It's size however means there is a limited number of cafes and restaurants ( details for these are available in apartment information folder). It is also important to know that the (well stocked) supermarket closes 7pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends and public holidays. Please also note: the stairs in the apartment may not suit those with a physical disability or very young children

The SpaceOur house used to be an old school house in the 1870s in a small country town called Carpendeit and was moved to Port Campbell about 15 years ago. It is a charming home full of character. There are two bedrooms upstairs: a main with a queen size bed and a smaller bedroom with two full size single beds. Please note that bed linen and towels are provided. All of the bed sheets, including the doona cover, towels, face washers and tea towels are freshly washed for our guests when we get the house ready. Please ensure to let us know the correct number of guests so that we can provide enough towels. There is a sofa-bed in the living room downstairs which pulls out to a double bed. We also have two thin single mattresses that can be used for an additional child. (Please ensure to let us know if these are required so that we can provide you with the appropriate bed linen.) For any guests traveling with a baby or small child, there is a travel cot available to use at no extra charge. There are two balconies upstairs. Downstairs there is a large deck that wraps around 3 sides of the house. There is a BBQ on the deck for you to use if you wish. The house is located right next to a small reserve and is therefore nice and quiet. You can hear lots of birds sing, especially the local Rufous scrub bird, which has a particularly nice song. We are keen to keep the character of the house. The toilet will remind you of an Australian outhouse. We also kept the kitchen rustic although it has all modern amenities you will need for your stay: freestanding electric oven and stove with range hood, a new kettle and new toaster. (Please note that pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery etc are provided.) The spacious bathroom has a full size bath and a separate shower. There is an air-conditioner in the living room for heating in winter and cooling in summer as well as a wood-fire heater for cosy winter nights. There is a panel heater in the main bedroom and a radiator heater in the second bedroom for cool winter nights. If using these heaters, please ensure these are switched off when leaving the house. There is a large dining table that seats 8 people if you wish to invite some friends over for dinner. Guest AccessBased on the size of bedrooms, the house is best suited to a family of 4-5, two couples or a group of 4 close friends. Bed sheets, towels, tea, instant coffee and sugar are provided. If you need to any of the spare bedding (ie sofa bed or spare mattresses) please make sure to let us know so we can instruct our cleaner to have enough sheets available for you to use. Interaction with GuestsYour hosts live in Melbourne. We are happy to provide you any help over the phone, via sms or via email if you have any queries. If we don't answer the phone straight away, please send us an sms. We have very busy lives but do check our phones regularly and endeavour to respond asap. The NeighborhoodThe Old School House is a leisurely 900 meters to Port Campbell beach and town centre. The beach is situated in a bay and is therefore suitable for swimming most time of the year. There is also the river at the end of the beach which is great if you are travelling with small children. Port Campbell town has a tourist information centre, police and a CFA fire station, a local grocery store, a petrol station and a number of nice cafes. The local pub has ocean views and is located right opposite the beach. The 12 Apostles are only a 10-15 minute drive from the house, same with Loch Ard Gorge, the Gibson Steps, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs. Visit the neighbouring towns of Princetown (Princetown river is great for fishing and kayaking, the boardwalk is beautiful and there is also a nice walk along the river/lake to the wild beach, which you might have all to yourself) and Peterborough (big river/lake, safe swimming beach). Once you have done your exploring of the scenic coastal area, take an inland drive to Timboon and enjoy a delicious lunch with local produce at The Distillery. Visit the local cheese farmers, the strawberry farm, Gorge Chocolates and the local vineyard (subject to opening hours). About a 45 minute drive east from our house, will take you to the edge of the Otway National Park. There are lots of great walks to do, a number of them suitable also for small children. Make sure to visit the Cape Otway light house. You might be able to spot a few koalas on the drive there. Once night sets, you can visit the fireflies at Melba Gully. If you are not scared of heights, the Otway Treetop walk is absolutely stunning. Getting AroundIf you are travelling by car, there is plenty of space to park at the bottom of the drive way right outside the house. Other Things to NoteIf travelling with small children, please be aware that the bedrooms are located upstairs with a further two steps leading into the second bedroom. It is therefore recommended that small children are supervised at all times when walking up and down the stairs. Please also ensure that children are supervised when on the balconies and make sure that there is no furniture pushed against the balcony balustrade, to prevent falls.

The Lodges have been furnished to meet all your needs for comfort, rest and relaxation. The kitchen, with its Gaggenau appliances and stunning bench top is guaranteed to delight the gourmet cook. The beautiful dining table is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed dinner with friends. Once you have eaten, retreat to deep comfort of the lounge and enjoy the open fire, listening to music or watching your favorite movie in the television room. The master bedroom, with a king bed that can be reconfigured into king-singles has stunning views of the forest and ocean by day, and of the evening sky by night. Snuggle into the comfort of the bed and awake refreshed to see our local kangaroos grazing on the front lawn. The ensuite offers an experience of unparalleled luxury. Let your cares be washed away beneath the amazing showers, or enjoy the unhurried pleasure of soaking in the stunning bath as you meditate upon a star-filled sky. The remaining three bedrooms all have king-sized beds, which can be re-configured to king-singles to meet your needs. An additional bathroom with separate toilet and shower services these bedrooms. Alkina is also an architectural treasure. While the Lodges are temptation enough, they provide the perfect place to explore the surrounding area. Visit the Twelve Apostles (15 minutes drive) and the stunning coastline to the west, or the waterfalls and forests of the Otway’s to the east. Port Campbell (25 minutes away) and Apollo Bay (1 hour away) are within easy reach. Other local delights include the gastronomic delights of Timboon’s cheeses, ice-cream and whiskey. Chocolate, seasonal berries and several renowned restaurants make this an area a foodies delight. Alkina Lodge is also within walking distance of the Wreck Beach section of the Great Ocean Walk, making it an ideal location for walkers or those who wish to explore this stunning section of the coastal walk. Alkina Lodge has everything to guarantee your perfect holiday, be it a weekend with friends or a romantic holiday for two. But be prepared, in the end the house itself will seduce you with its beauty - soothing body and mind to a state of gentle bliss. Guest AccessThe entire Lodge is exclusively availably for your use. This includes a lounge room, a kitchen/dining area, a television room and an outside balcony. If you have booked for two people (one bedroom) we ask that you do not use the other bedrooms. If you have booked for more than two people ($90 per additional person) those rooms will be made up and available for your use. Please note: We only take bookings for the entire Lodge. While the price is dependant on the number of guests, unused rooms will not be booked out to other guests. The NeighborhoodAlkina is located in a unique environment, situated on the coastal headlands of the Southern Victorian coastline. As part of the Otways and within easy reach of the Twelve Apostles, the area is filled with stunning natural beauty. We are also surrounded by an abundance of wildlife. Our mob of kangaroos can regularly be seen grazing in front of the lodges, and if you look for them, you may also find echidnas. If you are keen, you can take a drive to take you to locations with koalas and platypus. Getting AroundWe are not situated within easy reach of public transport. Alkina is best accessed by car. The property provides free parking. We are however within easy reach of the Great Ocean Walk. This makes Alkina an ideal stopping off point, and a great place from which to explore this amazing coastal walk. Other Things to NoteAlkina has been designed to have a minimal environmental impact, utilising passive solar heating and natural air flow. To that end we do not have air-conditioning in the summer and rely instead on ventilation, and where necessary electric fans. We do have heating in the winter months (open fire and hydronic heating). However if you are expecting to be able to walk around in t-shirts when it's middle of winter, Alkina is probably not the place for you. While the Lodges can be made to be comfortably warm, you will need to dress appropriately.

Access to the world famous Great Ocean Walk is only a 40 min drive away through picturesque countryside, rolling views and coastal seascapes. Other Things to NoteThe hidden jewel of Jancourt is its surprising wealth of native animals and plants, a microcosm of the Australian bush. Waking early, you will be privileged to the morning chorus, as a host of birds flitter through the soaring eucalypts, their musical calls echoing between the trunks. Marvel at the surprising cackle of the laughing Kookaburra (Australia’s giant kingfisher), the warble of the ever-present magpie and the light (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and blue flash of the superb fairy-wren as it bounces through ferns. If you’re lucky, dark fluffy swamp wallabies and majestic grey kangaroo’s can sometimes be seen browsing the shrubs out-front or even resting on the deck. In the evening, be surprised by the deep grunts of amorous male koalas as they challenge each other across the forest. Or the patient observer might witness a ring tail possum as it scuttles across the deck in the dusk. Like everywhere the best times to see wild life is early in the mornings or as the sun goes down in the evenings. Whatever your level of enthusiasm for the wild, Jancourt is a wonderful place to just relax and allow the natural sounds of the bush wash away the city from your mind!
