The SpaceThe Shed on Blackwood is a fully insulated, totally renovated, converted shed - it is separate from the main house and has its own space with a shady seating area outside. More information on The Shed's webpage. Netflix is free. WIFI is free. Guest AccessYou may wander over our entire property. The gate must be kept closed at all times to prevent our dogs (two fluffy Labradoodles) from escaping! Interaction with GuestsWe will always be around when we have guests staying. We can help with lighting the fire, cleaning if necessary during your stay and any advice you may want on where to go, shops, restaurants, wineries, truffle farms, bushwalking, orchid/bird spotting etc. in the Southern Forests Region The NeighborhoodBridgetown is the center for the Southern Forests region of Western Australia. It has a cold winter, ideal for snuggling up in front of the fire, and a temperate summer, with temperatures generally cooler than Perth and much cooler at night, making it a very pleasant place to live or holiday in. We have wineries, boutique shops, artists galore, and trees to hug Getting AroundThe Shed is not close to public transport, however, there is a daily coach service from Perth to Bridgetown (TransWA and South West Coaches) and it would be possible for us to collect you from the drop-off point in Bridgetown if you didn't have your own transport. It is strongly recommended though that you have a car to drive around the region in. Other Things to NoteThe main problem with rural properties is that we are all on septic tanks. This means that nothing other than human waste and toilet paper may go down the toilet. Sanitary items, wet-wipes/facial wipes, facial tissues, cannot be flushed down the toilet and a receptacle is provided for these items. It is the most important rule we have for The Shed.

You can escape the city to this quiet country life in under three hours by road and wake up to valleys filled with morning mist and tranquil forests. The centre of a thriving timber, mining and farming district, Bridgetown is a prolific producer of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and olives, not to mention wine and cider. You can indulge in some of its flavours in the region's cafes, restaurants and cellar doors and cidery. Many artists are drawn to the area, finding their inspiration in the Blackwood River Valley landscapes and exhibiting their work in local galleries. Action and adventure are in abundance too, with a network of canoeing/kayaking, walking, mountain biking and bridle trails to choose from. The town also hosts many events, including the ever-popular Blues at Bridgetown Festival, attracting world-class musicians and large crowds to the region every November. The SpaceMy home is very new and is a work in progress. I have worked hard this year to create the beginnings of a beautiful sanctuary for my guests and myself. The front now boasts a young, but lovely white woodland garden with a meandering pathway under the wispy silver birch trees. The shady front veranda, where guests can enjoy a quiet drink, leads onto an inviting expanse of green lawn (young and still growing at the moment). Fresh herbs grow among the english cottage style garden and guests are encouraged to enjoy these during a cooking class or when enjoying a special home cooked country dinner (when privately arranged). I have half an acre out the back which is just a paddock at the moment. My plans for the coming year are to build a generous veranda and deck and begin the Kitchen Garden. But it all takes time and so is a work in progress, which I look forward to sharing with my guests/friends over the coming year. But for now, if you enjoy good food, cooking, gardening, fabulous views or taking spectacular photos, then you may have just found your little bit of paradise. I understand and respect that a lot of guests just want their own space, peace and quiet. However, it you're looking for a bit more interaction with your host, someone who is happy to show you around and take you to all the best places that Bridgetown has to offer, well I make a pretty good tour guide, or so I have been told. So I look forward to meeting you and sharing my home and my wonderful part of the world with you in the not too distant future. Guest AccessGuests will, of course, have their own fairly spacious bedroom with queen bed, built in wardrobe with hanging space and drawers for unpacking. Each room has a delightful view across the valley. There is a light and airy sitting room for relxing. One spacious bathroom with large bath is shared between the three rooms. A theatre room for the use of guests will be set up fairly soon. Guests are welcome to join me in the living room if you wish to watch TV. Breakfasts, picnic lunches, dinner can be organized by arrangement. Interaction with GuestsI am a primary school teacher and do work full time. I am usually home not too late in the afternoon so I am available to help guests with most planning and recommendations. I try to keep my weekends free so am at your disposal should you like me to show you around. I am a keen photographer, gardener and cook and plan on running small private events in these areas so please ask about what I can offer if you interested in any of these hobbies. The NeighborhoodBridgetown is a delightful country town that has a lot to offer visitors. We are situated on the bank of the mighty Blackwood River, surrounded by hills and valleys that offer changing views throughout the year: from lush green paddocks in winter, to spectacular autumn trees, amazing wildflower bushwalks in spring to bare, brown paddocks with wonderful fresh water swimming in summer. Bridgetown is centrally located to the wider South West area so it is only an hour or two drive to places like Walpole and the Treetops Walk, Pemberton wineries and Big Brook Dam, boutique Margaret River, Augusta on the coast and the spectacular Boranup Forest. Bridgetown itself has so much to offer the visitor. Delicious cafes line the main street and boutique shopping. We even have one of the best gift shops right here in town called Wag Walters. For the more adventurous visitor, bushwalks through National Parks and forests are everywhere. Or you can canoe the Blackwood River, cycle through the hills or try some four wheel driving. Several major events happen in and aroung the Bridgetown area throughout the year. Some of the main ones include Open Gardens Weekend, The Blues in Bridgetown and the Blackwood Marathon. But in Bridgetown, there is something for everyone so book your room and come and explore the area. Getting AroundYou will probably need your own vehicle to get around Bridgetown, especially if you want to do some sight seeing. We do have a local taxi service in town and I will do what I can to help you sort out your transport needs.
