The SpaceThis home is uniquely situated at the doorstep of Coolemen Court, a local shopping mall with restaurants, fruit market and boutique shops. The house itself has recently been renovated with upgrades not only to the interior decor but the technology that goes into running the home; with smart locks, wireless streaming of films to the communal TV and more. The landlord was a chef and designer so the kitchen is fully equipped to make wonderful dishes in the comfort of a cosy modern cosy home. However, to keep expectations in check, this is an old property - the exterior of the home is a little dilapidated, window sills have pealing paint and some carpet is peeling up. The home is shared with other professional long term tenants who will be your host. These things noted, the house is full of character, cosy, well decorated and painted with modern accents and premium furniture and fittings. Our guests love the place and we hope you do too. Guest AccessGuests have access to the master room, a shared bathroom (with space dedicated to them) and laundry facilities. There is also parking available on site. All guests may use the the community entertainment hub which includes a Netflix subscription, 5.1 sound system and an HD television. High speed unlimited wifi is accessible throughout the home. Interaction with GuestsThe home and bathroom (with hot tub) is shared with three other professionals who will be your host. They're friendly and love a chat, but respect your privacy and will leave you to your own space. We occasionally bake our own bread and brew our own coffee! If we're making some you're most welcome to it! The NeighborhoodThe home is located conveniently near two major shopping malls. One is located just a five minute walk to Cooleman Court, the other is just a five minute drive to Woden shopping mall. Cooleman Court is extremely convenient allowing easy access to the fruit market, supermarket, petrol station, and plethora of boutique coffee shops and of cuisines to pick from. It is just a five minute walk away. Woden shopping mall also is one of Canberra's largest shopping complexes and it is a prime destination for young, hip, individuals. Nearby is also a nature reserve where guests can stroll and embrace Canberra's hilly, green surroundings. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop a minutes walk away. Take the 25 for a five minute joinery to Woden a shopping mall, or transit there and catch the 313 to the city centre. Other Things to NoteThe property although maintained very well, is over 60 years old. We do our earnest best to keep the home modern and chic, with hipster photography and high technology used throughout. However, to keel expectations in check, the exterior of the home is a little dilapidated, window sill have pealing paint and the bathroom is shared. These things noted, the house is cosy, well decorated and painted with modern accents and premium furniture and fittings. Guests love the place and we hope you do too.

The house has ducted gas heating to keep you warm in winter, and air conditioning to keep you cool in summer. There is plenty of uncovered off-street parking and I have unlimited wi-fi and Netflix. There is a deck out the back, and you're more than welcome to join me for an Aussie barbecue. I can also take you for a walk to the nearby reserve where you are guaranteed to see kangaroos. This listing is for a single room with a very comfortable king single size bed. It's light, bright and very quiet and gets the morning sun. Please also see my other listing with a double ensemble bed in a larger room. Guest AccessYou have your own room, but welcome to share the house with me including the living room with a 55 inch television and Netflix, radio and DVD. There is a deck and barbecue out the back with tables and chairs, and an outdoor lounge. Interaction with GuestsI'm happy to help you with local information, including what to see - and sit down and watch tele with you, or share a meal. If you prefer to keep to yourself, that's okay to. Coffee and tea is provided, as well as help-yourself cereal and toast for breakfast. I usually have fresh eggs available too from my own chooks in the backyard. The NeighborhoodWeston is a quiet Canberra suburb referred to as the 'Centre of Canberra', so it's convenient to many places. Cooleman Court is a great shopping centre under 10 minutes walk away with Woolworths, Aldi, Target, Post Office, Coffee shops, variety stores and a number of really good restaurants. The Irish Club is only 5 minutes walk and often has music on Sunday afternoons in summer, Karaoke on Friday nights and other events including comedy acts at different times of the year. You're also welcome to ride my pushbike, where off-road cycle paths will take you almost anywhere. Other Things to NoteMy 17 year old son stays with me intermittently but pretty much keeps to himself if he's here.. and I have a very friendly Spoodle called 'Vegas'. I am painting bits and pieces around the house and making improvements to the garden - but these small changes will not affect you in anyway. I have another listing for a large double room, so it may be possible that there will be another guest in the house.

Here you’ll find an easy 400 metre return walk from the picnic area to the top falls, and a steeper 1.6km return walk to the bottom falls. For longer walks, there is the Hume and Hovell Walking Track which you can trek parts of the track. This drive is suitable for 4WD’s only. The entry into Landers Creek Falls is a short 15-minute drive from us here at Pether Cottage. This is a fairly decent walk so we definitely recommend setting aside a few hours for this one. The falls are a 10km return walk from the 2WD car park or a 1.6km return walk from the 4WD car park (closed in winter) along the Cumberland trail. This is a great place for photos – at the end of the trail you’ll have views that stretch across the escarpment and plunging into the valley below, as well as the clear blue Talbingo Reservoir. At the Talbingo Lookout, you’ll get a great view of Landers Creek Falls emerging from the cliff. There are some other fantastic walks and places to visit in the area. Some of our favourites (apart from those we’ve mentioned) include Coolamine Homestead accessed off Long Plain Road along the Blue Waterholes Fire Trail; Blue Waterholes Campground; Clarke Gorge Walking Track; Nichols Gorge Walking Track; and the Kiandra Heritage Track. If you feel like taking a break from all the walking and hiking in the area, fishing, water sports and swimming are popular with many tourists and locals. You can fish all year round for rainbow trout, brown trout and redfin in Lakes Talbingo, Blowering and Tantangara, while Murray Cod is often caught in Blowering Dam. Fishing supplies can be hired from goPlayoutside, or purchased at the service station and supermarket. With so many waterways available for use, you can water ski, sail, canoe, kayak and swim on Talbingo and Blowering Lakes during the warmer weather. There are also many local creeks and swimming holes around including Jounama Creek. We highly recommend goPlayoutside for your snow and leisure equipment hire including cycling, hiking, water sports and snow sports gear. You’ll be out exploring the local area quicker and be hitting the slopes sooner. You’ll also find a four-day weather forecast, snow report and road conditions posted on the shop window each day. There are some great towns and villages to visit if you feel like exploring the local area. We recommend trips to: • Kiandra – historic ghost town and walk • Adelong – historic mining town • Tumut - the gateway to the Snowy Mountains • Gundagai – home to Australian folklore, the Dog on the Tuckerbox • Batlow – famous for cold climate fruit including the popular Batlow apples • Cabramurra – the highest permanently inhabited town in Australia • Adaminaby – in long periods of dry weather, you may be able to spot remanets of the old town under Lake Eucumbene • Cooma – home to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre Surrounded by some of the most sensational scenery, there is so much to see and do in the Snowy Mountains area, and you can experience it all from Pether Cottage.
