The SpaceCharming village house with nostalgic 2 room flat ideally located in the countryside of Salzburg. The flat is in the ground floor of the old mill house - two rooms: newly equipped with kitchen, dinning area, sleeping couch, wardrobe, TV etc. There is an electric heating as well as a wood stove. Extra bathroom with bathtub, shower, toilet. The house is closely connected to the city of Salzburg (bus stop just around the corner) as well as to the surrounding lake area "Salzkammergut". The location is ideally for sightseeing or exploring the countryside, walking, climbing mountains, swimming in the lakes close by etc. You will find an authentic touch of living in the countryside in Austria with an excellent bus connection (bus no. 140) to the city of Salzburg (the bus ride from my place to the city of Salzburg takes approximately 30 minutes) The appartment is for 2 people, but in case you have a baby, I can give you an extra cot. Guest AccessThe 2-room flat is in the ground floor of the house with own entrance. The bathroom is extra and very big and spacious. I also rent a room in my flat in the first floor for 1-2 people (see my other posting) In case I have (a) guest/s, the bathroom in the ground floor has to be shared. Around the house is a huge garden which can be used! There is also a table with chairs to have breakfast/lunch/(URL HIDDEN) case the sun is out;) The garden is very quiet - no car noise, only 2 quiet neighbours;) Please note that the house is really old (built in the 16th century) and therefore don't expect the same comfort like in modern new houses...however the atmosphere is more or less "original". It's a place for lovers of authenticity and a little bit of adventure;) Interaction with GuestsI live in the first floor of the house in my own little flat. If you need something I will always be there to help you. I like to talk to my guest and give them information about the surrounding area, sightseeing etc. The NeighborhoodThe area where the house is located is just outside the village and situated in a lovely and charming landscape. It's quiet and authentic and definitely something very special for people who want to experience the life "how it used to be and feel" in the countryside of Austria/ Salzburg. The village "Thalgau" is about 8 minutes walk from the house, where you will find shops, bakery, restaurants and one coffee house. Getting Around1 Minute walk from my house you'll find the bus stop "Thalgau Obervetterbach" which goes directly to Salzburg or Mondsee. Bus no. 140 Last bus from Salzburg "Hauptbahnhof" (main train station) to Thalgau departs at 22.35 pm. There is also a night bus on Friday and Saturday nights - please ask me for more details. Other Things to NoteIn the village "Thalgau", which is 6-8 minutes walk from my house, you will find 2 supermarkets (Spar, Billa), 2 bakeries, 2 cafe's and several restaurants. Be aware that u can only use the regional-trains. so take the train to Ostbahnhof (S 8) and change into the R train to salzburg Hauptbahnhof Other Things to NoteWHAT TO DO IN SUMMER Summertime in the Salzkammergut is amazing. Blue skies, crystal clear warm lakes, mountains shrouded in vibrant green forests and of course the beautiful alpine meadows bejewelled with wildflowers. The possibilities for the perfect holiday are endless, whether you are an outdoor adventurer, a culture-vulture or simply wanting to relax and unwind. A small selection of the many activities available and places to visit are shown below, but please ask us if you have a particular interest and we will do our best to help you. Fuschlsee I will show u my favourite place. You will be excited. I promise! Walking around it, having a swim IN it, relaxing ... the possibilities are endless. Highly recommended (not only by my guest) : a fresh smoked trout from the fishery next to Schloss Fuschl. You sit next to the lake, a glass of cardonney in your hand. just perfect:) Wolfgangsee This world famous lake, set in glorious, spectacular scenery makes an ideal day out for the whole family. Whether you want to swim, hire a boat, take a gentle cruise from village to village, cycle, go up a mountain by cable car, train or foot or simply enjoy hunting for souvenirs in the many fascinating shops in St Wolfgang, St Gigen or Strobl, its perfect. Be sure to stop for lunch or coffee and cakes in one of the many hotels and cafes. Walking My home is the ideal base for a walking holiday in the Salzkammergut. There are many excellent scenic walks of varying lengths around the area which are well signposted. Perfect for everything from a high paced Nordic walk right down to a gentle wander round the lake to Fuschl. The easy way up mountains My house gives you excellent access to the two best ways to get up a mountain. Firstly, you are only two minutes away from the busstop that will bring you to ST. Gilgen to the station where you get the combined ticket for the boat on the Wolfgangsee AND the Schafburg Mountain railway, who’s steam powered locomotives will get you to the top in comfort with 45 minutes. The other is the Zwölferhorn Cable Car just at St Gilgen. Both give spectacular 360 degree views of the alpine lakes and mountains. Mountain biking There are lots of well marked mountain bike trails ranging from easy to very demanding. The internationally renowned ‘Salzkammergut Trophy’ takes place in the lakes and valley around here. If you don`t like the bikes I provide for free and would like us to enquire about bike hire for you please ask. Swimming If you enjoy swimming in the great outdoors, then Fuschlsee is for you. There a number of locations which have sunbathing and swimming beaches, many of which are free to use and other which charge a small entrance fee. Bad Ischl and the Eurothermen Resort thermal baths are a "must-do" part of any holiday. Completely refurbished in 2007 the thermal baths offer swimming, a spa pool heated to 33 degrees centigrade, saunas, steam baths and a wide range of therapies to help you relax and unwind. Alpine Ambling If a more gentle approach to walking is your style, there are lots of walks we can recommend that can be covered with relative ease, with possible stops at local "hütten" or cafes to enjoy one of the refreshing local beers, a lunch or Kaffee and Kuchen, while taking in the amazing views. Watersports There is a wide range of water sports on offer at Wolfgangsee have boat hire, wake boarding, water skiing, scuba diving, banana boating etc available Cruises If you prefer more gentle water-borne pursuits then why not have a gentle cruise on Wolfgangsee. You can travel from village to village around the lake. Golf One of Austria's oldest and most famous golf clubs is in Bad Ischl, just a twenty minute drive away. The Franz Laimer Golf Academy which compliments the many other golf courses in the Salzkammergut. High fliers Hot air ballooning and paragliding is on offer in St Gilgen. Outdoor Adventure If more adventurous pursuits are your thing and you would like to try your hand at canyonning, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing or Segway touring there is a centre in St Gilgen. PLACES TO VISIT Salzwelten (Salt-world) A fascinating visit to an ancient but still working salt-mine at the ‘World Heritage Site’ of Hallstatt, about a 45 minute drive from my place. Well worth a visit if only for the view from the entrance to the Salt mine. Summer Tobogganing Great fun for all the family and only a 10 minute drive from my home, the Sommer Rodelbahn is ideal as part of a family day out in Fuschl am See. Dorf der Tier Literally Animal Village is situated just the other side of Gschwendt on the way to Bad Ischl approximately 15 minutes drive away by car. All Weather Family Fun The Abarena is a perfect family day out, extensive indoor and outdoor activities including play grounds, observation towers, model making, electric go karts and a jet flight simulator. What more could you ask for. Museums The Salzkammergut area is home to some wonderful museums of all sorts. If your into music its got to be Mozarts mothers house in St Gilgen, followed by the museum of musical instruments, which is not far away. If local history is more your thing, try the heritage museum for a look at traditional local trades. Salzburg Our home is an ideal base for a history holiday. From B.C. to present day it is all only a short drive away. No visit to the Salzkammergut is complete without a visit to this historic city. Famous as Mozart's birthplace, it has lots to offer, whether you are a culture vulture, seeking art galleries, concerts or museums, or are like many people, following the "Sound of Music" trail and would like to see some of the locations from the film, Salzburg is just spellbinding! Fabulous buildings, open-air music and cafés that serve delicious coffee and cakes. Shopping in Salzburg is excellent and a visit to the famous Getreidegasse is essenti From Hof to Salzburg city centre is less than 20 minutes drive, with its quaint shop signs that hang over the narrow street is essential for avid shoppers, seeking designer labels, fabulous jewellery or simply window shopping. There is a market most days selling seasonal produce and souvenirs. The famous Salzburg Music Festival takes place during the summer. St Wolfgang St Wolfgang is a village beyond compare. The narrow cobbled streets are home to some of the most wonderful architecture in the whole of the Salzkammergut. Teeming with shops, stores, restaurants and bars St Wolfgang is a delight to behold. Take the opportunity to wander slowly and enjoy the beauty, the atmosphere and the pace of life. Evenings in St Wolfgang are ideal if you want to eat out particularly in summer when several restaurants have 'al fresco' tables. There are quite a number of bars right by the lake, with some offering live entertainment particularly at the weekends. St Wolfgang holds fortnightly festivals in July and August called 'Summer Nights' which are truly unmissable. Street music, activities for the children, a street market, pavement bars and restaurants combine to create a real party atmosphere. Bad Ischl Just 20 minutes away, Bad Ischl is historic holiday home of the Kaisers. If you would like a guided tour around this historic town, why not take a horse drawn carriage ride to see the sights. Throughout the summer all the local shops, restaurants and bars are open and there are a profusion of pavement cafés where you can sit and take in the scenery or simply people watch. The world famous confectioner and coffee house Zauner, where superb cakes and fabulous house-made chocolates can be sampled, is an essential part of any visit to Bad Ischl and in Summer they have a super riverside café on Bad Ischl's stylish Esplanade. Another not-to-be-missed attraction is a visit the Kaiser Villa, the holiday home of Kaiser Franz Joseph I, perched on the banks of the River Ischl. It is said that Franz Joseph brought his court to Bad Ischl in order to benefit from the health giving properties of the waters here. Russbach Part of the Dachstein west area and a short drive from Panoramablick Russbach is an ideal place for all the family to visit on a warm summer's day offer in the chance to walk in the mountains, hunt for fossils, have fun at the water park and many other attractions. WHAT TO DO WINTER Advent & Christmas Markets From the end of November until New Year there are Advent markets held in Salzburg, Ebenau, Guggenthal, FAistenau, St Wolfgang, St Gilgen and Strobl. They are all individual and excellent in their own way. One of the most memorable holiday experiences for many guests is strolling among the candle-lit streets with seasonal music playing or choirs singing, while looking for Christmas gifts and traditional Austrian foods from beautifully decorated stalls. Be sure to enjoy a mug of warming gluhwein and try the hot roasted chestnuts. A giant candle floats on Wolfgangsee during Advent and Christmas and you can take a romantic moonlight cruise around the lake to complete your special day out. Winter Activities: Postalm Again a short drive away. Postalm is popular with local skiers. It is ideal for the whole family and has 20km of mainly easy to intermediate runs as well as a "fun-arena". There is a chair-lift and 6 draglifts as well as cross-country tracks, a toboggan run, an ice-rink and an alpine curling alley. Ideal for a day-trip incorporating a visit to the villages of Strobl and St Gilgen. Gaissau/ Hintersee is part of the Hintersee ski area....and MY favourite one!! It is only about 20 mins drive by car ...or by FREE SKI BUS Gaissau has 20 km of pistes, 3 chair lifts and 6 draglifts. Although fairly small, this is a very family-friendly resort, with ski-hire and ski-schools and slopes to suit beginners and experts alike. Gaissau makes an excellent day out as there are also extensive cross-country tracks nearby, ski-tubing in the village of Faistenau and a good selection of "Hütten" and guesthouse to enjoy an après-ski ,snack or supper. And if you want to go a little further afield the pistes at Abtenau, Loser-Altaussee, Feuerkogel and Tauplitz are all within an hour's drive. Cross-Country Skiing The Salzkammergut is a popular area for cross-country skiing with many kilometres of tracks available through spectacular scenery. There are cross-country tracks right behind my home. The village of Faistenau has excellent cross-country trails and makes a really good day out. If skiing isn't your sport Winter in the Salzkammergut is a magical time with plenty to see and do, even if skiing is not your sport! Tobogganing and Snow Tubing There are several toboggan runs near to Hof bei SAlzburg The closest is at Postalm, which is 20 minutes drive away. It is possible to hire a toboggan. Snow tubing really is great fun for kids of all ages. Absolutely no skill required just the ability to sit in a large rubber air filled ring and slide down a snowy mountainside. No skill required for snow tubing the winter sport for everyone Walking Snow-walking in the mountains is becoming increasingly popular. Most of the ski-lifts offer a "one up or down" ticket at a greatly reduced price, so you can enjoy the spectacular views while walking or just sitting at one of the many typical Austrian" Hütten" where you can enjoy a wide selection of drinks and home-cooked food. Ice-rinks Salzburg No visit to the Salzkammergut is complete without a visit to this historic city.
