Great Things To Do in Barbados What's On in Barbados Fitts Village more Barbados things to do Welcome This district on the west coast of Barbados is ideal for a relaxing Caribbean vacation. Fitts Village in the parish of St James derives its name from the man who owned that western tract of land undulating toward the Caribbean Sea: Benjamin Thomas Fitt. It was its placement at the edge of a tranquil and clear blue ocean that would see the Fitts district become a predominantly fishing village. Fishing still goes on there to this day, extending toward its neighboring Paynes Bay Fishing Market. Features The area contains several reefs and with clear blue waters its good for snorkeling. Ocassionally you may even spot a turtle surfacing for a breath of air. This is a favorite release spot for sea turtle hatchlings rescued by the Barbados Sea Turtle Project. There are areas along this coast that are excellent for swimming. This is typically a quiet beach, and is the ideal spot to relax with a good book under the shade, or enjoying the sea and sun. Getting AroundBlue Waters Cottage is next to a bus route. For anyone not wishing to hire a car, local transport is very frequent and inexpensive. Watersports operate all along the coastline. There is a supermarket one minute from the Cottage in a complex which also has a doctors surgery and pharmacy if needed. Holetown is situated 2 miles north of Blue Waters and this very vibrant pretty town has many popular restaurants and good shopping facilities. The town has a very long history being the site where the first settlers landed and the town has grown over the years to be a very popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Bridgetown is 3 miles south of Alverton and has a large number of shopping areas and is worth the visit just to browse and soak in the history of this very old Caribbean city. Speightstown, a charming old Bajan town, is 7 miles north of the charming Blue Waters Host's Directions The property is easily accessed via the Highway from the Airport. Follow signs to 'Warrens' from there follow signs to 'Spring Garden' roundabout on the West Coast. At Spring Garden take the third exit (Right=North) onto Highway One. After tow miles on the same road you will come down a hill into Fitts Village. The property is on the beach side. The land-mark is Cristal Cove on the Beach side. The SpaceThere are two 3-bedroom apartments on the property both offering something unique to our guests. One of our units is tailored to provide wheel-chair access without being imposing while the other 3 bedroom 2 bathroom villa offers a large upstairs deck with a private barbeque grill and outdoor lounge chairs for sunbathing. The 3-bedroom units are spacious and comfortable. They both have jacuzzis in the master bathrooms and a second full bathroom which is shared between the other two bedrooms. The master bedroom features a queen sized bed while there are double beds in the other two bedrooms and an optional pull-out bed if requested. Our charming open floor-plan allows the large, fully equipped and well stocked kitchen to flow into the living and dining areas. The furniture is comfortable and Caribbean while the décor is brightly coloured and reflective of the true Barbadian experience. The 3-bedroom villas are fully air-conditioned and satellite television is available on our large screen televisions. There is daily housekeeping. Internet access available to all guests.               The SpaceThis apartment is in a safe neighborhood & close to the University of the West Indies. This is a self-contained apartment - one unit part of a larger townhouse complex (4 buildings, 8 units total) & unlike many of the other listings in the area this apartment is located in a tranquil upscale neighborhood & is not connected to the landlord's house. Apartment in gated townhouse complex, full laundry, patio, BBQ & beach gear (umbrella, chairs, cooler, raft, bocce ball, paddle ball, snorkel equipment). If I am in island - of course I will come to meet you! Most of the time I will not be there as I travel frequently and I rent it when I am out of the island. I am always available via email and by phone as well. Also I will provide you a list of other local contacts (my landlord, taxi man as well as the numbers of some of neighbors & friends in the area) in case you need anything or have any questions during your stay! Quiet & serene yet close to west coast & amenities. Close to the University of the West Indies, West Terrace School and Holders Hill, St James. Bus #3 is very close (less than 3 min walking) to the apartment but I strongly recommended that you rent a vehicle to get around as the apartment is not on the main bus route. You can rent a car from a local rental agency or perhaps my personal jeep. I have a local taxi man that can pick you up from airport or for use during your stay. Ajoupa 13 has a open plan kitchen, living and dining area that leads on to a covered patio on the lower level. On the upper level of this town house are two air conditioned bedrooms and one bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a balcony with a sea view. It is one of fourteen homes, set in tropical gardens with a shared pool. We are situated just 250 metres back from the beach. Ajoupa 13 is 30 minutes from Grantley Adams International Airport and 10 minutes from Bridgetown the centre of Barbados, you are not far from any amenities. For shopping Limegrove, Barbados' first mixed use lifestyle centre, is located in the heart of Holetown which is 5 minutes on the bus and is home to many of the world's leading retail brands. So why not try out Oistins Fish Fry Oistins is an active fishing town on the south coast and is a hub of activity on weekend nights. On Friday night particularly, the big thing to do is go to the fish fry at Oistins . The food is the main draw - excellent fish, (tuna, swordfish, marlin, mahi-mahi, flying fish), lobster, chicken etc served in an extremely informal setting. You can get your fish grilled or fried depending on which vendor you choose from. It's all cooked on the spot in front of you. Seating is plentiful, if rustic and a plate of fish (and there’s plenty fish on it) and a beer will cost you about Bds$30 (US$ 15). Food is usually available from about 7:00pm There are also arts and craft items on sale, including jewellery, pottery, ceramics, leather craft, wood carvings, straw craft, clothing and accessories, and original paintings and prints. Frequented by visitors and locals alike, it's a great place to spend an evening. Getting AroundThere are local buses at the bottom of the road and an abundance of taxi's to choose from.
