The SpaceCottage in heavenly place.
At Bananal Pequeno Beach, with only one neighbor on the other side of the beach.
Total privacy and incomparable view. More nature impossible.
Calm beach, no drift.
Perfect for romantic getaway, for travelling with friends or with family.
Home features: Refrigerator, stove, electric oven, hot bath, outdoor shower, external hammock, wood stove / improvised grill.
A large bunk bed in each room (holds 2 people in the lower bed and 1 in the upper one), additional space with waterproof mats in the living room for 2 more people to sleep in.
Additional mats may be added if more people are going.
The house is in Bananal Pequeno Beach (Small Banana Beach) the middle of the forest with only one neighbor on the other side of the beach (about 100 meters away). 1:20 hour away (on slow boat) from Angra dos Reis, Mangaratiba or Abraão village).
To get to the closest village, at Bananal beach, you must take a 10 minutes walk through a trail. There is not much way to get lost, the trail goes side by side with the sea.
The village has some inns with restaurants (open depending on the amount of guests they have) and small bars/grocery shop.
The best (and cheaper) option would be to buy most things in Rio/São Paulo or in Angra, before going to Ilha Grande.
There are other beaches with bigger restaurants, but they are more distant. You may go walking (about 2:00 walk) or renting a boat (price depends).
There are no roads and cars on the island.
So you will need to take a boat to get there.
Supposing you are starting your trip from Rio de Janeiro:
I usually go to the Angra dos Reis city (about 2:30 from Rio by car or bus) and, from there, I take a boat (about 1 hour ride).
If you go by car to Angra, I have the contact of a parking group which picks up your car by the touristic boats wharf when you arrive and returns your car there when you come back from the island (you just need to call them).
There are also other parking options closeby.
If you take the bus, the bus station is about ten minutes walk from the touristic boats wharf.
I uploaded a map picture with the main spots highlighted.
About the boat:
1st option (cheaper - 1:20 trip):
There is a big boat that takes people from Angra dos Reis to Bananal Beach and to Bananal Pequeno Beach (where the house is).
Cost: R$ 15,00 per person
from Angra to Bananal/Bananal Pequeno - 2pm on Mon, Wed and Fri.
from Bananal/Bananal Pequeno to Angra - 7am on Mon, Wed and Fri.
2nd option (more expensive but faster - 20 min trip):
Our neighbor's housekeeper has a small boat (enough for 3-4 people).
Costs: about R$200 total, if 2 people are going. With 3 people, it goes up to R$240.
Depends. Must talk to him first.
3rd option (more expensive - 1:20 trip):
If you want, it is also possible to hire a private boat.
Costs: R$200 during the day and R$250 at night (total, no matter how many people are going) to go and another R$200/R$250 to come back.
If you take this option, you will be able to chose the time of departure (I usually depart from Angra at about 1am).
Climate and access:
In the Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande region sometimes there are heavy rain storms. This happens a few times in one year and is more usual from November to March
During stronger storms, the boats can cancel their trips and power / water shortages may happen. Also, landslides in the access roads happened a few times on the last years.
Therefore, before traveling there we always check the weather forecast. When there is strong rain forecast (above 35 ~ 40mm), we postpone the trip until after the rain. This happened a few times in recent years, but it is an important care to ensure a smooth and fun trip.
If you have your stay booked and identify this situation (heavy rain forecast), we can postpone / advance your stay in order to avoid the storm, or even make a full refund (if you can not change the date).
I would love to welcome you personally. But I work in Rio from Mon to Fri, so it may not be possible. If I can’t be there to welcome you, I will talk to our neighbor's housekeeper so that he may welcome and assist you.
He is not our employee, but he helps us in some tasks.
He also has a small boat, which may be used in any emergency.
There are big waste bags in the house. We usually take our
trash back to the continent, as the trash service in the island is not available all the time. If you can´t do it, please let us know, so we can fix it before it starts smelling bad.
Please, try not to forget any food or drink that may rot in the house, and try to leave the house as tidy as you found it.
If you are also coming to Rio we may meet in person, so we get to know each other and I can give you hints on Ilha Grande and on Rio.
We are also hosting people in our apartment in Rio, in front of Maracanã Stadium, and in a cottage, in the mountains of Rio.
Frequently asked questions:
1 - Is the beach next to the house only rocks?
No, it is mostly sand. It has two mais parts.
To the left of the pier the beach goes for about 100 meters of continuous sand. This is our neighbor area. To the right of the pier there is about 10 meters of sand (depending on the tide). This is our area.
2 - is it deep quickly or could the kids play in the sand?
It does not get deep quickly and the sea is really calm. Waves are mostly 30~40 cm high, and there is no drift. My mother used to take me there since when I was 1 year old.
3 - Do you provide breakfast?
Unfortunately not. I live in Rio de Janeiro.
However, our neighbor housekeeper has a bakery/pizza delivery business.
He does the deliveries using his quick small boat.
4 - How do we get from your place to the beach with restaurants?
Please see item "Surroundings" above.
5 - How easy is it to get get a boat?
There are some available in Bananal Beach.
If you need help in scheduling a boat, I can try to help you, calling the ones I know and trying to find the cheaper one and scheduling it for you.
Usually it is not too difficult. The price depends on how far you are going and on how long would the boat stay out with you. Usually, a boat trip going to 4-5 beaches and taking 4-5 hours costs from R$ 150 to R$250. There are also some options on the internet:
6 - does the house have internet? or does it catches the cell phone network?
It does not have internet, but the cell phone network works fine, usually with 3G connection, for Claro and Oi carriers. Claro is the best one there.
For Vivo and Tim I do not have info, as I do not use them.
7 - Do you provide towels, bedsheets, etc?
The beds mats have waterproof covering and pillows.
There are bedsheets for all beds in the house.
But I recommend taking your own, as I can´t go there everyweek to change the sheets for cleaner ones.
Towels and blankets are not provided.
