The SpaceWe are a rural property although it takes only minutes to drive or cycle to the small town of Comox, to the airport or the ferry to the Sunshine Coast - ideally located! The house is moments from the beach as well as the NE corner with its bird sanctuary, bike and walking trails. Attend the C.V. Music Fest (#1 in Canada), which is an easy drive from our home, and visit Seiffert's Farm Market for fresh vegetable; farm itself borders our property. Head up to the skiing and hiking trails of Mt. Washington or visit nearby Crown Isle Golf Course. The house itself has a library that you are welcome to use, and a large professional kitchen, that includes all appliances from a gas range to a soda maker, for creating feasts to be enjoyed on your choice of decks; the house is fitted with garage doors which when open eliminate the distinction between indoors and out; as one of our guests noted, "we kept those garage doors open all day long, letting the wonderful air move through". This appealing open space has a large living area, a master bedroom and bath as well as a loft - open to the space below - with a double bed for a second couple or a teen; a second bathroom w shower serves these guests. Do note that the loft is open and while separate from the space below is not completely private. We are computer users so wifi is available as is storage space for sports equipment such as golf clubs, bikes, boards and kayaks; parking is plentiful. Enjoy three acres of naturally treed area - to be shared with the deer and rabbits - and fenced, cultivated garden space which surrounds you in privacy; someone may show up to work in the garden for a bit or mow the lawn; enjoy the eagles, herons and hummingbirds which visit. We love where we live and delight in leaving lots of information for guests. Guest AccessGuests have access to all areas of the house although we do have a kayak/sports equipment room, which is generally not available to guests. There is plenty of room in the indoor shop for bikes, kayaks, skis or any equipment that guests might bring; it has a large garage door and access from the mudroom; it can easily be locked. Interaction with GuestsWe leave a detailed, complete manual so that guests can function independently; it includes phone numbers should any problems arise. We ask that it be read as it includes important information regarding heating, recycling, water and household practices. We often travel when guests are here; however, we do like to meet our guests when they arrive, and in the spring, especially, when gardening is in full swing, I may ask you if it is appropriate for me to come and work for an hour or two; I love to chat on these occasions as we are on airbnb to connect with people and help them to enjoy the area in which we live. The NeighborhoodWe live in a neighbourhood of hectare-size properties; our neighbours live on their decks and are often found at the waterfront or wandering toward it; we all monitor the eagle trees and any large scale projects we have must wait until their nesting period is over. It is the best walking/running circuit around - we do it every day! Getting AroundPoint Homes is not on a public transit system route, so arriving by vehicle is the best option; it is an easy, scenic cycle into town. We have plenty of parking on our property; two spots are covered and one is usually available. It is a quick trip to the airport, and we could certainly arrange to meet or take someone to the airport if we are around. Other Things to NoteWhile we leave a great list of ideas for places to visit as well as a list of our favorites, it is the oasis of our forest and garden that our guests, such as Diane last August, have appreciated: "The week we spent in Comox was the most relaxing of the summer and your home was an oasis of serenity and beauty. The outdoor space and garden is exquisite and our favourite reading spot was in a chair beside the bedroom--so comfy and out of the full sun.

This stately home is placed squarely in the yard on the loop of the circle drive, behind wrought-iron fencing lining the green of the tree-lined avenue. The home has old-world elegance yet is modest and not at all showy-for-the-sake-of-it. It is both central to the little town and at the same time very peaceful and gives you large private outdoor spaces. It is a sanctuary for visitors, and birds. You may take an easy stroll down the avenue and into town where all the basic amenities are available. The Marina Park and the boardwalk out beyond the Marina make an excellent destination. I recommend this stroll after dining at Martine's Bistro, a couple of blocks over. Of course the Comox golf club is right nearby as well and it is a fine course. They can set you up with clubs or you may want to bring your own set. There is a range of affordable golfing in the Comox Valley with five other clubs also close by. Also within walking distance you find the lovely historical Filberg Park. Meander the grounds and gardens and stop at the tea-house for lunch and occasional music. Take a drive out to the sandy strip of beach on Goose Spit on a sunny afternoon and stay to enjoy the deepening hues of the sunset. You'll feel elevated by your stay on the AVENUE. The Comox Valley was awarded the Cultural capital of Canada with the Music Fest, Annual Music Business Conference, Originals Only Art show, Kitty Coleman Garden shows and Filberg Art fest and Marina Park Nautical Days, Historical Cumberland Days, Snow-birds Aeronautical show, Shell-fish celebration, Ski to Surf triathlon, Golf tourneys, to name a few of the valley's regular events. And of course the Mountain! World class Mt. Washington is there for both Nordic and Alpine skiing fall to spring. The walking trails and swimming holes up on the mountain are also a special retreat in summer. The mountain also has rugged mtn bike trails and enroute to Comox Lake is another network of well-run trails. Horse-riding and running trails connect through to Seal bay park. Take a kayak out on the waters to enjoy the aptly named park or paddle to Tree island. The Comox valley is renowned for its fresh organic produce. And still the valley has a small-town feel and is easy to get around.

Guest: Judy Thank you Henrie and Pat, for your kind and generous hospitality in making my stay at Mariner's Lookout so very conducive and comfortable. You have a great location, good views, but most of all, a wonderful way of providing a tranquil and restful retreat - far from the crowd. Looking forward to seeing you in 2014. Merci beaucoup. Guest: Harald Thank you very much for making us feel welcome and at home at Mariner's Lookout! We really enjoyed the wonderful views - and all of beautiful Comox Valley during our one week stay. We'd love to come back and explore more of this wonderful island, Guest: Laura Thank you for this beautiful space. You were so accommodating and made us all feel welcome. We will be back to enjoy it in the future. Guest: Mary This has been an amazing place to stay. The location, the views, and the decor have all contributed to create a peaceful environment and enjoyment of nature. The thoughtfulness and kindness of Henrie and Pat has ensured we never forget our lovely stay, just wish it had been longer. Guest: carol “It just doesn't get better than this...” 5 of 5 stars Every aspect of our stay was absolutely perfect! With the warm welcome from Henrie when we arrived, we knew we were going to feel right at home. It was something of a shock when we first entered Mariner's Lookout--I can honestly say I've never stayed in a place that was so well designed with top-of-the-line finishes and beautiful, tasteful decor. And, most importantly, it was immaculate--every surface and corner of the unit was perfectly clean. It was a wonderful stay, and I will definitely return as soon as possible. Thanks, Henrie!!! Guest: Laura and Ann Thank you Henrie and Pat for a delightful stay - love the view, the peace and quiet and the great space to relax. We will be back. Guest: Eric Well, here we were one year to the weekend since our first Valentine's visit, and it was just as great the second time around - this time with more eagles, gulls, heron, duck, and even a flying vulture. We found the same snow ridge where we got engaged last year on Mt. Washington and it was still buried in 20 ft. of snow. See you next year (we hope). Guest: Dave Thank you Henrie and Pat for the wonderful suite to spend our family Christmas. It's been a long time since we spent Christmas together in the valley. Your suite and hospitality made it all perfect. Guest: Ivan Thanks again for providing us with such a lovely suite to return to each evening after our days exploring new places and visiting 'old haunts' in Courtenay and Comox. The serene atmosphere of Mariner's Lookout is a great fit with the natural beauty of the Comox Valley. We will certainly take both our many pictures and wonderful memories back Ontario and Nova Scotia to share with friends and family. Guest: Helen Thank you for the wonderful vacation spot to stay in. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit down Memory Lane, 38 years later. It is more beautiful than you can take in in a week. You have a great view and a great resting spot. Guest: Dave What a lovely spot you have - a great place to stay. The suite has a very relaxing atmosphere and you were very kind in offering vegetables from your garden (the beetroot was wonderful) and freshly baked muffins. We really enjoyed our stay in the Comox Valley - We went to Paradise Meadows trail, Oyster River trail, Lazo Road, and cycled along the Courtenay side of the bay (Waterfront Park?) and walked along the spit. Thanks for the trail advice. Guest: Tara & B Thank you very much for a lovely stay. We enjoyed ourselves immensely! It is so very relaxing here; the mountain/ocean view and your garden are unbeatable. Thanks for making our last days in Comox so special. Guests: R & K Mariner's Lookout hits all the right notes. The apartment we rented was beautifully designed and furnished. It was very clean may even be cleaner than my sister's house, (sorry Bev). The kitchen has everything needed to cook and bake, with a dining table that overlooks the water and mountains through the large and (again) clean windows. The bedroom is quiet and restful with luxurious bedding and comfortable pillows. In the apartment we were treated to several pieces of art on the walls, done by the host Henriette, who has an art gallery on the main floor of the building. The apartment is on the second story, and very close to the owners house, but separate, which allows privacy for both. I am an avid gardener and really enjoyed discussing plants and flowers with Henrie, yes, plants and some flowers in January! The hosts are well suited for this business, they are friendly and attentive while respecting our privacy. We stayed for 3 weeks and are already planning to return. My only word of caution is that the lore around Mariner's Lookout is that many couples have moved to Comox area after staying there. Winter rate: $110 price is set for two nights, $135 is for one night only stay, double occupancy during the winter season. Please contact us regarding additional guests, suite accommodates 2 (king ) included in rate + 2 (twin beds at $35 each per stay). Additional suite (sleeps 2) is available either as a separate or joint booking. Please inquire re rates. Visa, MC, eTransfer or cash. One bedroom fully furnished second floor unit, situated on a flourishing landscaped property overlooking Vancouver Island's Beaufort Range and Comox Bay. You will be a hop, skip, and a jump from the Goose Spit Park, and a 10 minute walk to downtown Comox, good restaurants, golfing, Filberg Lodge and Park, marina, and hiking. A pair of eagles have made themselves a nest within view (with binoculars) from the kitchen. The Comox Valley Airport and the hospital are each a 5 minute drive from here. Mt. Washington Ski Resort is 45 minutes away for those who enjoy snow sports. BC Ferries: We are 15 minutes from the Powell River ferry to Little River (Comox Valley) and 1 1/2 hours from the Nanaimo ferry to Vancouver (lower mainland).
