The SpaceThis is the perfect getaway for singles, a couple, or a group of friends. It's a super cute and funky 600 square foot float home located right in the heart of Cowichan Bay! It has everything you need for a fun adventure including use of a canoe and kayak. Steps to the quaint Cowichan Bay Village means enjoying a latte at an outdoor coffee shop, browsing the unique artist nooks and boutiques, and heading out for an adventurous whale watching tour in the warmth of the afternoon. An evening at the local pub or infamous Rock Cod Restaurant means you will be ready to take a evening stroll along the boardwalk and marinas enjoying all that nature and the splendid ocean has to offer. You can even enjoy the Nature Centre, the Wooden Boat Museum and enjoy late night entertainment at the local hangouts. This is really an incredible opportunity to leave the hectic life behind, sit on the outside garden dock, sip cocktails and listen to the otters and sea lions play. As far as accommodations go ... there is a queen bed in the main bedroom, a double up in the loft/bedroom as well as a pull out chair that makes into another single. There is also a double futon in the living room that pulls into a bed. We have just recently renovated including all new paint in the living room and kitchen, bathroom and bedroom (which looks great if I say so myself!) and new carpet in the living room and loft. So everything looks fresh, bright, and clean! Come give it a try ... you will want to come back again and again! Interaction with GuestsI am available by text or phone any time. Please leave a message if I happen to miss your call. Usually I work a lot and am away most weekends and I like to give people their privacy ..but when I am around I'd love to meet up - just let me know! The NeighborhoodWhat a fabulous neighbourhood! There is so much life and attractions and generally a fabulous feeling that comes with a fabulous community of people. There is a lot to do right in the area from walking the beach to enjoying a beverage at the local watering hole. The best part is that the nights are so quiet you'd hardly know you are right in the heart of a small town. As a side note, some of the shops are closed on Mondays - so there maybe less to do on those days. Getting AroundThere is a bus that goes right into Duncan and the surrounding area that stops right outside the marina grocery store.

The SpaceThis unique strawbale house is set in a sunny, very private location in the beautiful forest of Glenora, 10 minutes west of Duncan. This is an opportunity to have the full 'eco-house' experience with unique features including off grid solar power system, earthen floor (warm and clean), strawbale walls and very low EMF radiation. The strawhouse has all the comforts of a regular house (full bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, loft, large open plan living area, beautiful mountain view). It's a house you need to spend time in and appreciate the details of living off-grid. It really can be done. It feels like a healing sanctuary from the moment you walk in and you will not want to leave. The healing energy of the earthen materials soaks up the positive charges our bodies are subjected to whilst living and working in our modern buildings. This is the ideal place for those wishing to heal from serious illness, re-plenish their life force, write or take time out to meditate and contemplate their next direction. Extremely relaxing and quiet with walking trails on this 35 acre property including Glenora Creek, sweat lodge, beaver dam, maple tree grove. Only five minutes driving to the Trans Canada hiking trail and Cowichan River's most beautiful swimming hole and place to begin inner-tubing. Wineries, horse riding, unique dining cuisine all available within 5 - 10 minutes and shopping in Old-Duncan only 10 minutes away. The entire house is yours. There is a work shed and yurt shaped building set apart from the house which is usually empty but may be accessed by prior arrangement. We will demonstrate the off-grid power system. It is just like the grid except you watch the battery power level for power consumption. We are in an extremely private location just 10min driving to town. There is easy access to 5Km of trails in the beautiful old riparian forest by Glenora Creek with beaver dam, sweat lodge and maple grove. Swimming and inner tubing in Cowichan River 4km away. Horse riding, wineries all nearby. You will need a car to get to town and access this location. The drive is 1Km long and slightly bumpy in places but not a problem for normal cars (not low riders!) Best to plan not to do laundry or do activities requiring heavy power use in view of off-grid battery/solar system. WiFi works well - we switch it off when not in use (to reduce EMF if desired). There is a cel phone booster antenna which you can access indoors (there is no extraneous EMF inside the building) Guest AccessThe entire house is yours. There is a work shed and yurt shaped building set apart from the house which is usually empty but may be accessed by prior arrangement Interaction with GuestsWe will acquaint you with the off-grid power and water systems etc. It is important to know how to keep the battery power supply within normal limits. Interaction with GuestsWe totally gauge our interactions with guests according to their wishes and expectations. People who are renting for longer periods and desire complete independence get that, but have the advantage of on the spot information and assistance. From Cowichan Bay, travel to many of the top destinations on Vancouver Island can be easily accomplished. We truly are central to your many day trip adventures! The largest island on the western side of North America, Vancouver Island has an extremely diverse topography ranging from lush rainforest valleys and snow-capped peaks to rugged, rocky coastlines and smooth, sandy beaches. It's this diversity that gives such distinct flavors to the various regions and the communities that comprise them. The southern tip of the island is comprised of Greater Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula and the Western Communities. Much of Victoria itself can be characterized as a modern heritage city with turn-of-the century buildings standing alongside condo high-rises. And with its ancient oak forests, cherry blossom-lined streets and warm, windswept weather, it's no surprise that Victoria is consistently ranked one of the most beautiful cities worldwide. Only a short drive from the city centre, the Saanich Peninsula is a cradle of agriculture with quaint communities and calm, inland beaches, while the more rugged Western Communities are a cluster of booming townships on the island's more rugged and forested Pacific Coast. Only an hour's drive up island, the Cowichan Valley enjoys a unique micro-climate, evident in the area's proliferation of vineyards, orchards and dairy farms. Small communities such as Cobble Hill, Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Cowichan Lake and Chemainus breathe a unique mix of small-town flavor and aboriginal charm into the region. Further north, the mid-island city of Nanaimo is a quaint tribute to Vancouver Island's oceanic history. With fabulous restaurants, bountiful shopping and numerous outdoor activities at your fingertips, it's clear why this is a growing, prospering community. Just minutes from Nanaimo are the coastal communities of Parksville and Qualicum beach. Parksville boasts the best beach in the world at Rathtrevor Park, it has to be seen to be believed. At low tide the ocean retreats more than 2km our exposing white sand for as far as the eye can see in every direction. One hour further north, the Comox Valley is not only home to the communities of Courtney and Comox but also the island's alpine sports destination: Mt. Washington boasts 60 runs, a high-speed quad chair, a fixed-grip quad (among other lifts) and a vertical drop of over 500 meters. It's easy to see why visitors from the world over make this their skiing destination. Like your recreation a little warmer and wetter? Take a detour to the island's west Pacific Coast and experience the awesome, wave-crashing majesty of Long Beach, the surfer mecca that stretches between the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino. Simply put? If you haven't experienced Vancouver Island, you haven't really experienced British Columbia. Vancouver Island is located off of the west side of Canada and is easily accessible by plane, boat and car. In order to drive to the island from Vancouver you must use the BC Ferries system so please check the schedule before departing. Victoria has a large International Airport that has daily flights to and from Seattle and Vancouver as well as many other destinations. The east side of the island is accessible by car, bus and train. Most of the west side of the island is best accessed by 4x4 as most of the roads are very rugged and much of this part of the island is true wilderness. Please make sure you let someone know where you are going and when you are returning if you intend to head into the back country. Cowichan Valley Country Villa is a large country home on acreage with stunning mountain views. Enjoy the beautiful sight of a pair of young bald eagles who, each year build their nest directly below the mountain in the farm field. Watch the growth and eventual flight of the young.
