City of Fernie - Community Life The NeighborhoodSituated alongside the meandering Elk River, green and blue in colour and offering some of the best fly-fishing in North America. A quick drive to numerous lakes. Back roads leading to countless adventures and new places to discover. Until you're here, it's hard to believe how perfectly placed Fernie is and just how close the recreational opportunities really are.... Once here, you may notice people biking with their golf clubs on their back heading to hit some balls or enjoy a round. Others will have fishing rods, biking to a secret location where they will spend the evening casting into the river. How Fernie is situated has so much to do with the lifestyle found here... a lifestyle that becomes so ingrained in our lives, we do whatever it takes to stay. " - Fernie Fix Summer Guide 2015
Fernie Fix, a local magazine also does a great job publishing articles on restaurants, news and events. Search 'Fernie Fix' online to check out their website.
There are also lots of restaurants where you can enjoy world cuisine. Our personal favourite include Curry Bowl, Yamagoya, Big Bang Bagels and the Rusty Edge, right at the Griz Inn.
When hiking or biking, please be mindful and safe of bears, cougars and elk. Hike in groups of four or more people and make noise on the trail. When possible, bring bear spray and read the instructions for your safety.
