The SpaceA sweet little cabin all to yourself is a great alternative to a crowded hostel. Come visit a part of the Coast you will never forget.....I Promise. The Cedar is a simple one room cabin perfect for a night or two. A queen size bed will envelop you for a long sleep in after a day of touring our unique little island. This part of the world is off the grid, so forget about noise and light pollution. A secluded outhouse set in the forest offers ultimate privacy and great views. Our accommodations are self catering so it is essential for you to bring along the necessities to make your stay as comfortable as you want it. There are no cooking facilities with this cabin. Drinking water, food and maybe some sweet treats from our local cafe or cookie stand can put you in heaven. Lasqueti Island is a jewel of a secret. Those who have visited always leave a piece of their heart here. We are off the beaten track and a culture all on our own. Our community is completely off the grid and every house is self sufficient. Our homes and landscapes are pieces of art, as everyone here is an artist in one form or another. Our Saturday market is filled with locally grown produce, fresh baked goods and hand made wares you will find no other place. If it is just some chill out time you are looking for then our forest and beaches are the perfect place to do it. Many will tell you, we've got the best sunsets on the coast. So easy to get to. We are a 5 minute walk from the ferry landing which you board in French Creek Parksville, just 30 minutes north of Nanaimo. Look up Lasqueti Island online and you will see why we are booked all summer long. Other Things to NoteThe ferry to Lasqueti is a walk on only, there is no car transport. During the summer months it can be very busy so it is important to arrive at the dock a minimum of 30 minutes prior to departure. Earlier for long weekends. On the busy days the ferry crew will put out boarding passes located on the metal post beside the ferry. With these in hand you must be on the ferry 15 min prior to departure to ensure passage. These passes are not always necessary but will be on the long weekends. Dogs - Although I have hosted some wonderful pups in my cabins, the island in general is leery of dogs due to the large population of feral sheep wandering freely on the island. Dogs must be on leash at all times and never allowed to run freely for there own protection. Medical Emergencies - Our island is serviced by a qualified team of first responders. If there was a medical emergency they would attend you and have you transported via Coast Guard or medi-vac to the nearest hospital. Power - This homes electricity is generated by solar, hydro or gas generator if necessary. It will be the guests responsibility to provide their own gas if they will be running the generator. Fuel is available on the island. Water - The water that services this home is untreated and it is therefore not potable. There is a Daulton water filter for drinking water and large jugs of water can be purchased on island. Heat - The house is heated by a wood stove. A sufficient amount will be provided for your stay. Wifi - There is no wifi in the house. There is cellular coverage for tethering if internet access is needed. There is also wifi available at the pub.

The SpaceThis is a West Coast style home-turned-B&B nestled amongst evergreen trees and natural gardens. Your room is a self-contained suite, up a flight of steps to a private second-story entrance. It has perfect views of the sun setting over the Salish Sea and mountains. This is a spacious room with a queen-size bed and two single-size beds, an ensuite bathroom with shower, a sitting/dining area, and a kitchenette (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, coffee maker, teapot, kettle, toaster oven, mini-fridge, microwave, utensils, glassware, tableware). It includes high-speed wi-fi, cable TV and easy off-street parking. My home is walking distance from Judges Row Beach, the old-growth Heritage Forest, the Qualicum Beach Visitors Information Centre, Memorial Golf Course, Milner Garden Trails & Woodlands, and several great waterfront restaurants. My home is set back from the Old Island Highway (19A), busy during the day, quiet at night, we're close enough to the ocean to hear the waves rolling in, sea lions barking and awaken to the trill of local eagles. Check out Trip Advisor to see my excellent reviews! Guest AccessGuests have access to their own personal self-contained space separate from my living space. Each room enjoys it's own private, outdoor seating area plus there's a wee rope swing(!) out front, to play on. Interaction with GuestsI greet my guests upon arrival to welcome them and pass on any knowledge they'd like about their space and the local area. I live in a separate part of the house and leave my guests to enjoy themselves privately. That said, guests are always welcome to come say hi or ask questions. The NeighborhoodI enjoy walking and love all the beautiful spaces that can be found within walking distance of my home. Nature abounds here: deer visit regularly, we hear owls hooting and sea lions barking at night while eagles and blue herons can be spotted in the day. We always love to see the quail babies and parents that share our property every year. Be sure to check out Judges Row Beach at low tide to catch the exposed sandy beaches. The trick is to go swimming just as the tide is coming back in over the sand. The water is warmed up by the hot sand and it's heavenly for an afternoon or evening dip in the waves. Other experiences include strolling along the Ocean Promenade, exploring the Heritage Forest trails, golf at the Memorial Golf Course, dining at the nearby waterfront restaurants, and smelling the flowers at Milner Gardens. With a 3-minute car drive, you can access downtown Qualicum Beach's restaurants, shops, art galleries, groceries and museum! Getting AroundVehicle: Qualicum Beach has minimal public transit. Vehicle travel is easiest though not required. Biking: Everything in Qualicum Beach is very close so biking is a great option as well. The SpacePicture a warm cedar cabin, nestled on a bluff overlooking the trees and ocean. Independent of the grid, all of our power is supplied through solar and micro hydro generated on the property. A quiet stillness surrounds you. You can snuggle up with a good book under the duvet on a bed that begs you to sleep in. Step out of the urban chaos into a small kitchen where you can prepare a meal of locally grown produce. Revitalize your self when you step from the outdoor shower into the fresh smells of pine forests and sweet honeysuckle vines. Reconnect with what you love. Let the cell phones, laptops and noise of the contemporary world fall away and experience how our residents live successfully with a small footprint on this planet. Please READ the house manual for important details about your visit. Gardeners are embraced at Jessie's Path as our garden grows perennial treasures of native plants, collectable trees, unique herbs and locally grown organic produce. We are an island that celebrates the building of our community through festivals, food, live musical performances, comedy, burlesque, circus and any other art form. (costumes always welcome) Do a web search and you will see what I mean. The Farmers Market will welcome you Saturday morning with fresh doughnuts, coffee, raw foods, fresh produce, local jams, music and artisans galore. June 20-Sept 12 At the market you will meet people with alternative ideas for home building and energy. See first hand, cob house construction, micro hydro energy and small scale farming If you remembered your fishing license you can collect oysters at low tide for an evening feast back at the cabin. Fresh local garlic and butter makes it all worth while. After a stunning sunset on your private deck, swim the warm incoming tide in the bay below the cabin and discover the phosphorescence at midnight. You won't leave the same. Guest AccessThe Arbutus cabin is a spacious 2 room living space with a Master bedroom and double bed in the living area. The cabin is independent and set away from the main house. There is a covered outdoor kitchen that has been steam punked by a local artisan and set up with a small oven and 2 burner stove. Salt, pepper and some spices are already in the pantry with the necessary cooking utensils to prep a tasty local dinner. Your outdoor shower is a natural spa, set on the corner of the deck with the arbutus as your company. The neighbouring cabin is also independent and does not share facilities unless otherwise prearranged. Interaction with GuestsI enjoy interacting with my guests and welcome questions or needs. I do ask that my guests respect my privacy and text ahead before coming to my home. The NeighborhoodI love my community. We could not live here without the support of our neighbours. Living off the grid is not easy and it is with helping hands that we have created a strong neighbourhood. I would hope that my guests enjoy the camaraderie and embrace our alternative style of living. Getting AroundThe ferry to Lasqueti Island is walk on only, there is not a car ferry. There is no public transit on the island but the cabin is located only minutes from the ferry and within walkable distance to the beach, restaurant and store. Locals are happy to pick up travellers if you just stick your thumb out. Dogs must be on leash at all times and never allowed to run freely for their own protection. Medical Emergencies - Our island is serviced by a qualified team of first responders. If there was a medical emergency they would attend you and have you transported via Coast Guard or medi-vac to the nearest hospital. Power - The cabin electricity is generated by solar, hydro or gas generator if necessary. If the weather is cloudy it is possible that the power will go out during your stay. This is part of living off grid. Please disconnect any draws and use flashlights until the batteries have had time to recharge. minimum 1 hour of sunlight. Water - The water that services this home is untreated and it is therefore not potable. There is a Daulton water filter for drinking water and large jugs of water can be purchased on island. Heat - The house is heated by a wood stove usable from Sept - May. A sufficient amount of 1 tote of wood will be provided for each night of your vacation. Should you require more it can be purchased at a cost of $10/tote. Wifi - There is no wifi in the house. There is cellular coverage for tethering if internet access is needed. There is also wifi available at the pub. Lasqueti does not welcome media. If you are with the media or an independent journalist, please disclose. Failing to do so may result in you being asked to leave.

The largest island on the western side of North America, Vancouver Island has an extremely diverse topography ranging from lush rainforest valleys and snow-capped peaks to rugged, rocky coastlines and smooth, sandy beaches. It's this diversity that gives such distinct flavors to the various regions and the communities that comprise them. The southern tip of the island is comprised of Greater Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula and the Western Communities. Much of Victoria itself can be characterized as a modern heritage city with turn-of-the century buildings standing alongside condo high-rises. And with its ancient oak forests, cherry blossom-lined streets and warm, windswept weather, it's no surprise that Victoria is consistently ranked one of the most beautiful cities worldwide. Only a short drive from the city centre, the Saanich Peninsula is a cradle of agriculture with quaint communities and calm, inland beaches, while the more rugged Western Communities are a cluster of booming townships on the island's more rugged and forested Pacific Coast. Only an hour's drive up island, the Cowichan Valley enjoys a unique micro-climate, evident in the area's proliferation of vineyards, orchards and dairy farms. Small communities such as Cobble Hill, Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Cowichan Lake and Chemainus breathe a unique mix of small-town flavor and aboriginal charm into the region. Further north, the mid-island city of Nanaimo is a quaint tribute to Vancouver Island's oceanic history. With fabulous restaurants, bountiful shopping and numerous outdoor activities at your fingertips, it's clear why this is a growing, prospering community. Just minutes from Nanaimo are the coastal communities of Parksville and Qualicum beach. Parksville boasts the best beach in the world at Rathtrevor Park, it has to be seen to be believed. At low tide the ocean retreats more than 2km our exposing white sand for as far as the eye can see in every direction. One hour further north, the Comox Valley is not only home to the communities of Courtney and Comox but also the island's alpine sports destination: Mt. Washington boasts 60 runs, a high-speed quad chair, a fixed-grip quad (among other lifts) and a vertical drop of over 500 meters. It's easy to see why visitors from the world over make this their skiing destination. Like your recreation a little warmer and wetter? Take a detour to the island's west Pacific Coast and experience the awesome, wave-crashing majesty of Long Beach, the surfer mecca that stretches between the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino. Simply put? If you haven't experienced Vancouver Island, you haven't really experienced British Columbia. Vancouver Island is located off of the west side of Canada and is easily accessible by plane, boat and car. In order to drive to the island from Vancouver you must use the BC Ferries system so please check the schedule before departing. Victoria has a large International Airport that has daily flights to and from Seattle and Vancouver as well as many other destinations. The east side of the island is accessible by car, bus and train. Most of the west side of the island is best accessed by 4x4 as most of the roads are very rugged and much of this part of the island is true wilderness. Please make sure you let someone know where you are going and when you are returning if you intend to head into the back country. The SpaceWe probably should have named ourselves "NBTB B&B" - Nothing But The Best B&B! We have a very high standard, we live each day to the fullest, with great food, great wine, great friends - and we like to treat our guests the way we like to be treated. We welcome our guests with a nice glass of wine or a beer, spend a little time getting to know each other, and we like to answer all your questions and make sure you make the most of your stay in this area. We will show you to your bedroom, with newly renovated hardwood floor, a nice firm queen bed, with new Egyptian linen duvet and bedding. The SpaceThis is a West Coast style home-turned-B&B nestled amongst forest and gardens. Your room is self-contained with a ground-level private entrance. This is a spacious room with a queen-size bed and a futon couch/bed, an ensuite bathroom with shower, a mini-kitchenette, and a sitting/dining area. It includes high-speed wifi, cable TV, easy off-street parking at your door and your own private patio. We are walking distance from Judges Row Beach, the old-growth Heritage Forest, Memorial Golf Course, Milner Garden Trails & Woodlands, and several Qualicum Beach restaurants. Set back from the Old Island Highway (19A), busy during the day, quiet at night. We're close enough to the ocean to hear the waves rolling in, sea lions barking and awaken to the trill of local eagles. Check out Trip Advisor to see my excellent reviews. Guest AccessGuests have access to their own personal self-contained space separate from my living space. Each room enjoys it's own outdoor seating areas plus there's a wee rope swing(!) out front, to play on. Interaction with GuestsI try to welcome my guests personally, upon arrival, and pass on any knowledge about their space and the local area. There will be a note on my front door with instructions for you, if I am not at home. I live in a separate part of the house and leave my guests to enjoy their own privacy. That said, guests are always welcome to come say hi or ask questions. The NeighborhoodI love walking in my neighbourhood - the secret loop by the ocean. Ask me about it. The trick is to go swimming just as the tide is coming over the sand. The water is warmed up by the hot sand and it's heavenly for an afternoon or evening dip in the waves. Set back from the Old Island Highway (19A), busy during the day, quiet at night. Other experiences include strolling along the Ocean Promenade, exploring the Heritage Forest, golf at the Memorial Golf Course, dining at the nearby waterfront restaurants, and smelling the flowers at Milner Gardens.
