The SpacePoirier Cove is just right for a family vacation, a romantic getaway or fun with friends. The private beach is perfect for picnicking, watching wildlife visitors in the bay, swimming out to the bird rock, or setting off for a paddle. You can scramble up the rock to watch the sunset - or the sunrise. There are two expansive lawns for badminton, croquet or soccer. There's a firepit for roasting hot dogs or marshmallows - or keeping warm when the sun sets. And then there's the view, which always seems to be changing. Away in the distance, over the Juan de Fuca straits, you can see the snow-capped mountains of Olympic national park. You can spend a day quite happily with a pair of binoculars watching birds squabble over their place on the rock in the middle of the bay, spotting bald eagles and ospreys, or waiting for the seal family to visit - perhaps even a passing whale. Or you can set off to explore the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Inside the kitchen, sitting room and dining room all look out over the ocean. The kitchen has everything you need if you choose to eat in. The dining table seats 6, and the comfortable living room has a fireplace. You'll find a woodpile next to the garage. We've left plenty of board games and books for evenings around the fire, but there's also wifi and TV if you prefer. The master bedroom has a queen bed, the other has twin beds, and there's hideaway bed to put anywhere you want. Poirier Cove is a short drive from Sooke's shops and restaurants; miles of sandy beaches; west coast rain forest - or 45 minutes to downtown Victoria. The ideal place for a vacation! Guest AccessYou have the whole house to yourselves - including a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer - and of course the beach and garden. Interaction with GuestsWe'd like to talk before you go so that we know exactly what you need. We're also available by phone during your stay. But when you're there you have the property to yourselves. The NeighborhoodThe location of Poirier Cove is incredible - the view spectacular. But Sooke, just 10 minutes down the road has everything you need, including one of Canada's finest restaurants. 15 minutes up the road the other way you'll find miles of sandy beaches at French Beach or China Beach - and the start of the Juan de Fuca trail. If you like to bike, you can pick up the Galloping Goose trail just east of Sooke, and head off for an adventure up to the Sooke potholes. If it's a hot day you'll welcome the swim. Fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking - all on your doorstep. Victoria is only 45 minutes away. The BC Royal Museum is great; the bug museum fun for the kids; and walking around the harbour watching the boats and street performers is a fun way to spend the day. Poirier Cove is well located on Vancouver Island to explore as much as you like - or stay home and hang out on the beach. Getting AroundWe'd recommend that you hire a car at the airport if you're not bringing your own. There is a bus out to Otter Point, but you'd get much more out of your vacation with a car. There's plenty of parking. Other Things to Notenone

The SpaceThe wood-burning fireplace in the living room and large steam shower are a few of the highlights this beautiful, open concept space has to offer. The master bedroom is located upstairs with a guest room off the upstairs balcony, there is also a main floor bedroom with bunk beds and a sleeping loft with a queen size mattress. The steam shower is extra large with benches along 2 walls. It's the perfect way to end any west coast day full of surfing, hiking or beach grazing. Newly built with granite tiles, this magnificent shower will keep you happy and thoroughly warm inside. This newly built modern cabin located in Jordan River’s lush Rainforest is the ultimate home away from home. Please note that this cabin is architecturally unique, with some of the design features making it challenging for toddlers, small children and those with mobility issues. There are multiple levels, polished concrete floors, bunk beds and two ladders. The cabin boasts an open-concept design, which is beautiful, but can pose challenges if you are looking to get multiple little people to stay sleeping while the adults carry on. That being said, we have a toddler ourselves and love spending time at the cabin with her. We have equipped the cabin with safety gates, a high chair and a pack and play that you are welcome to use! If you are planning on visiting the cabin with small children, please get in touch about the details so we can ensure that you and your family will have a safe, restful and enjoyable vacation! Guest AccessYou have access to the entire place (minus the crawl/storage space in the basement, which is locked). The other 2 cabins on the property are also off limits. Interaction with GuestsWe live in Victoria which is about a 1.5hr drive from the cabin. We are accessible by phone and email at all times should you have any questions during your stay but are generally not available on the premises. The NeighborhoodThis newly built modern cabin is located near the town of Jordan River. The area is well known for a variety of fun, cold water surfing breaks, glorious beaches and beautiful hiking trails. The cabin puts you within 30 minutes of over half a dozen surf breaks. China beach and Mystic beach trail heads are a short walk away. Both are part of the Juan de Fuca provincial park ((website hidden)_de_fuca/). Cabin is also right near the turn off to access the Kludahk hiking trail (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundThis cabin is located in a remote area, you will need a car to access the cabin. Other Things to NoteThere is wifi at the cabin, but because we are in a remote location the internet connection is via satellite which means that there is limited bandwidth. The connection works well for checking email, browsing the web and sending small files but live streaming or large uploads/downloads are not supported. Also, there is no cell phone coverage at Jordan River but there is a landline at the cabin for your use.

No Wifi here, so it's considered a true "retreat" now, but if you are staying a while and wish to hook up service, it's wired in the cabin, just need to call in the Shaw or Telus dude and he will swing in from the neighbours tree like Tarzan and hook up the line in for you.:) . If you want to access WiFi for short periods , you can feel free to come on up to the house. There is Parking for 1 car, and several bikes. Coin laundry on site for small loads, or for bigger stinkier, post camping in the Himalayas type loads , there's a Village laundromat like no other. Please note ,this small , funky space is really best suited to outdoorsy" , physically active agile types who are mostly 'out and about' exploring the surrounding areas during the day. Also guests must be ok with the usual bugs and creatures that come with indoor/ outdoor living and not be afraid of bears, raccoons, spiders, or nesting sparrows. 1 Quiet kid safe non yappy dog considered if not left home or unattended for long periods. Additional pet deposit , 1/2 months rent and references, req'd, for month long stays. Big dogs will have to sleep on or in your bed with you as the cabins are smallish. Ponies sleep outside, unless your willing to pay quite a bit extra to have them sleep with you in the cabin..we do have several small fenced paddocks for horse visitors to stay in .Sorry no cats as the space is not suited. Must be a good match with us, as this cabin is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood We DONT want people holding parties here or having a lot of visitors coming and going at all hours, (unless we are invited). Absolutely NO INSIDE SMOKING ( of anything) in any of the cabins , as all furnishings , draperies, etc will be affected. Smoking outside in designated areas only. No warm muffins served here, This is a self catering accommodation, Guests bring their own linen, towels, food, but basic dishes, and cookware will be supplied. Guests are expected to leave all their unopened alcohol and unwrapped chocolate on the premises in the fridges and cupboards upon departure. ;) At the end of your stay guests are expected to restore everything back to the way it was and do a basic cleaning. The place is never pristine because it's partially outdoors and the elements and local wildlife have their own agenda, but a basic sweep, tidy and wipe go a long way. Guests who leave the place cleaner than when they found it will be given $50 off the next week long visit and a free pass to our local museum...yeah! Guest AccessSelf catering unit, guest has full access to the Cabana's indoor, outdoor facilities indicated in the listing. In winter months November through February the outdoor shower may not be accessible due to weather. Guests will use the main house shower at that time. If there is a freeze the water will be temporarily turned off and guests may have full access to Main House kitchen and washroom -but this is usually short term. The Main House washroom is also available at times when the Composting toilet requires a break. The outdoor spaces are considered "shared "areas as the Cabana is located on a small horse farm adjacent to a riding arena that is rented to a horse and dog trainers, but you are welcome to hang out in it and the fenced yards . Horse stalls are available for guest use at an additional charge. Interaction with GuestsHost lives on the property and will be present during all stays. Host has young kids and a dog, sometimes 2. The SpaceThis original home was built in 1911 as a cabin. Fast forward to 1990 when I purchased this lovely property and spent 24 years either undoing other people's work or creating new and tranquil spaces. I added a whole new living space at the back and brought the original cabin up to building code in 1996. The inside is now an open floor plan and the back property is amazingly tranquil. The term, 'don't judge a book by it's cover' is a perfect description of my home. If you see a go-(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map street view you may pass my home by. If you come and have a look, you'd be pleasantly surprised that go-go-(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), didn't get it right! I'm one of the best kept secrets in my rural neighbourhood!!! I do have 2 large breed dogs that are indoor dogs but they can be contained in the other half of my home if you're not comfortable with them. Their biggest downfall is they like people too much. Once they meet you, you're just part of the family and you'll always be greeted with a huge tail wag and loving eyes. They're pretty much a doofus and goobers! Currently, I also have a foster dog that is also contained in the other side of my home, away from the living area. The loft is designed for two people but I can put another 2 people up there with air mattresses or cots. It'll be cozy but not nose to nose so you should all really like each other!! The fees are for double occupancy with the exception of the monthly fee. The 'monthly' fee is based on single occupancy, with a negotiated additional charge based on individual circumstances. Guest AccessAs a paying guest in my home, you will have access to my large, bright and very well stocked kitchen, a decent sized full bathroom that is exclusive to you, laundry facilities, wifi, wii, hammock, lovely fire pit, large deck out back, any food that is in season and growing on my property, small fridge in your room to store your goodies, BBQ facilities. Interaction with GuestsI like my guests to feel totally at home and comfortable and if that means never seeing me, I can work with that! If you're into chatting and finding local areas to visit, I can help you there. I've been on this rock for 51 out of 57 years so I have information and sometimes connections to get you the stuff you came to Sooke for!!!! The NeighborhoodSooke has always been a safe and down home place to do your daily business with. Back in the day, if I didn't have quite enough cash, I was told to bring it the next time I came shopping. Never needed ID to write a cheque and everyone trusted everyone. It's not quite the same now with it being an affordable bedroom community with townies moving here to get started. Luckily where I live is still like ole town Sooke. We all have a bit of property and small farm animals. Getting AroundThe transit bus stops directly in front of my house. On the reverse route to leave Sooke in the mornings, the bus stop is across the road. The cost is 2.50 to get a ride into town. I have lots of parking on site if you have a car. If you are just doing local Sooke activities, a brisk walk to Sooke town will take you about 25 minutes. Other Things to NoteThe ocean is an 8 minute walk from my house. and Whiffen Spit is a 5 minute drive. Sooke is home to many spectacular rugged west coast beaches. If you have a car, you may like to go to French Beach or further away is China and Mystical Beach. There are several beach accesses along Westcoast Road so pack a picnic and go explore. There is a Gov't wharf just down the road from me and as long as you have a licence, you can catch crab off the dock or cast a rod to see if you can catch a wild salmon. I have a crab trap you can use but I gave my rods away but I can probably borrow one if you want to cast off the dock! Sooke has a few charter boats to take you out whale watching or fishing. Salmon, halibut and cod are the most favourites. I have freezer space if you need to store your catch before going home.

The SpaceA haven away from a fast-paced, noisy world, our sleepy cabin comfortably fits four (queen and double bed), with a futon for additional sleepers. (Two kids easily fit on the futon, two adults might be a squeeze!) It's a bright space with lots of natural light and warm organic finishing throughout, including woodwork from reclaimed wood from city buildings from Victoria B.C. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking at home, with a wood stove for warmth on chilly evenings. Sleeps: 5-6 Bathroom: 1 Full Kitchen Check in: 5 PM Check out: 11 AM Books: Lots! DVDs: Shandell's collection: Mostly sci-fi and vampire stuff. Things with explosions. Neil's collection: Documentaries. Movies that make people sad. Dogs: Negotiable under strict terms. We love dogs but want to make sure that everyone -- you, your (usually) four-legged companions, and our neighbours -- remain happy and safe. Surfers: As an extra bonus, located outside there's a hot water faucet for rinsing wet suits and boards. Expect a relaxing stay and great sleep in our cozy loft house located in a private forest near the ocean. Finally, we try to make your stay as low environmental impact as possibly and provide as many sustainable products as possible (recycled toilet paper, biodegradable soaps, biodegradable garbage bags, organic cooking supplies etc.). We ask that you help us out with this and please properly separate your garbage and do not throw anything out that is clearly recyclable compostable. Guest AccessCompost Firewood Barbeque Board Games (Settlers of Catan, Risk, Scrabble) Books DVDs Printer Interaction with GuestsGuests will enjoy a private coastal experience, but will have contact information easily at hand if there are any questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodJust a 10 minute walk to the beach and 5 minute walk to the beginning of the Juan de Fuca trail, the house is located in a quiet, thickly wooded neighborhood with little traffic or noise. For the most part at night you will only hear the crackle of the fire and the wind in the trees if you leave the windows open, though in the winter and spring the creek that runs across the back of the property can be quite impressively loud. Though the house itself does not have cell phone coverage, just a fifteen minute drive towards Sooke is Shirley Delicious, a delightful cafe that serves excellent coffee, a wide variety of treats, soups, sandwiches and breakfast fixins, as well as offering internet service (vegan and gluten free options). There's often cell coverage there too, so it's an excellent option to connect to the world. Just down in Jordan River, The Cold Shoulder cafe also serves great coffee and snacks. For a romantic evening, the nearby Point No Point also offers dinner (and lunch), though be sure to make reservations. Note: Be sure to pick up any food or other supplies needed before passing through Sooke as there are no grocery stores or gas stations in Jordan River. In addition to the Juan de Fuca and China Beach, there are numerous nearby beaches with differing levels of access. The beach at Jordan River is very easy access (you can drive right to it), and for a bit more of an adventure, head to Sombrio, about a half hour drive past Jordan River; if you are lucky you may see killer whales, humpbacks or seals. Getting AroundJordan River is remote and a personal vehicle is necessary. Other Things to NotePower outages are common during the storm season (November - February). In case of an outage there are two large jugs of water stored by the washer and dryer. First Aid kit, flashlights, and candles are kept in a basket on the fridge. While an outage can be inconvenient it's an excellent excuse to make grilled cheese sandwiches in the cast iron pans on the wood stove.
