The SpaceNeil and Darlene Pryde invite you to enjoy their circa 1899 seaside home on the peaceful waters of the Chester Basin. They have just completed a total professional restoration through which the original trim and style was either retained or painstakingly recreated. You will feel like a successful sea captain from the age of sail. The captain though now enjoys a 50" flat screen in the movie room, a new washer/dryer stack and glass corner shower unit besides his original clawfoot tub, and his kitchen/pantry now is a full kitchen/breakfast nook opening onto the Bali room and further opening out the garden doors onto the side lawn...all with views of the ocean. In fact 180 degree views of the Chester Basin and countless islands, mostly deserted, many with fabulous beaches. The closest is just a swim away. There are no rips or undertows, currents to worry about. The house is halfway between Chester and Mahone Bay with all the restaurants, golf courses and services of these two top rated south shore towns. Bring the dog, your horse, your bikes, or at least good walking shoes as the "tracks to trails" runs through the forest just behing the house. It is a groomed level exrailway bed managed by the municipality across the province. The perfect way to experience Nova Scotias forest. The moonrise/sunrise directly in front of the house will stop time for a moment you will never forget. When the sun sets it illuminates the islands giving the illusion they are floating above the ocean. Welcome to the south shore. Enjoy the Islands In The Sun.

The SpaceThis charming newly renovated space has been designed for relaxation and comfort. Providing all the comforts of home, without having to bring anything. The recent renovations aimed to make the house more efficient, add more natural light, storage and a great kitchen while leaving the character in tact. It turned out great! The outside also got some love - relax in the locally made adirondack chairs and enjoy your morning coffee or evening drinks and dinner out on the spacious deck. Guest AccessGuests have their own entrance and parking and deck (and BBQ), and have complete access to the apartment. There is currently no in-suite laundry, but laundry may be able to arranged for stays longer than 5 days. Interaction with GuestsThe apartment is fully contained, so interaction is minimal, unless of course you want or need anything! The NeighborhoodLocated at the end of a quiet street, the house sits on a spacious corner lot. Deer sometimes visit the yard. The stars shine brightly at night. The neighbours are lovely. And it's quiet. Its just two easy blocks walking to go watch the sunrise over Mahone Bay. There are nature trails just behind the house that can take you far away… amazing. Everything is so close yet there is a feeling of seclusion here. It's a perfect mix! Getting AroundEverything you need can be found within walking distance, including the bay! Yoga, walking/biking trails, unique shops, groceries, cafes, and restaurants. Get in the car, and the UNSECO heritage town of Lunenburg is less than a 10 minute drive along the shore and home of the Bluenose Schooner, unique shops, and if you fancy taking an art course, the Lunenburg School of the Arts ((website hidden)). Surf and sun are part of the NS experience, and some of the best beaches in Canada can be found just a short drive away. You can even rent a kayak in town, to tour the many islands. Mahone Bay is an ideal base for exploring Nova Scotia - and only 45 minutes from the city of Halifax. Other Things to NoteThere is a charming cat who lives upstairs, and will not be a bother and the apartment is off limits, much to his dismay! So, anyone with allergies need not be concerned. It is an old house, so you may hear creaks from up above, but its very quiet otherwise.

Loon Lodge is our personal home, not just another bare-bones rental and is equipped accordingly with comfy leather furniture, fine hi-thread-count linens, hotel-quality towels, lots of fascinating antiques, folk art and original art (we're serious collectors and dealers) as well as a varied summer reading library. And, of course, it truly has one of the finest waterfront views in Eastern Canada. It's just a short walk to justly famous Mahone Bay Village, with great restaurants, pub, boat tours, art galleries, public tennis, lifeguarded pool (with children's swimming lesson), GUIDED SEA KAYAK TOURS, organic farmers markets, festivals & concerts. Nearby are beautiful beaches, sailboat day charters (with lessons), tall ship day cruises, lobster boat harbor tours, sea cave tours, sailing camp for youths and adults at the local yacht club, oceanfront golf, boogie-boarding and surfing, seaside hiking and fishing. There is a small summer theater group in the village, as well as two professional SUMMER THEATERS in nearby Lunenburg and Chester. Loon Lodge is just 70 min. from the international airport and 2.5 hours from the Portland/Yarmouth ferry and is CHILD/INFANT FRIENDLY as well as the ideal, very romantic getaway for couples. Loon Lodge Activities: Swim in warm water from your private pier float, laze in the large, 4-seat floating lounge, or launch the Lodge boats to explore the harbor, meet the visiting yachtsmen from the world over, shop and dine. Warm-water beaches are just a short pedal or drive away. Also, the Loon Lodge road winds along the harbor for a few miles out to the postcard-beautiful boat-building village of Indian Point. Our guests report walking, cycling and driving this fascinating road several times each week, the views are that wonderful. Of the three roads that rim Mahone Bay Harbor (Main St., Edgewater St. and our own Oakland Road) Oakland road has by far the least traffic. Sit on the porch, pier or lawn, or float in the warm waters in a kayak, canoe, dinghy or tube for hours, rowing to the Pub, or watching the harbor activities, splendid views, sea birds, sunrises and sunsets. So relaxing! Sea island sailing cruises and adult sailing lessons can be booked just up the road with Mike Ernst. Day/sunset harbor cruises and whale/puffin watching on a safe, comfortable lobster boat can be arranged at the town wharf with fully-licensed Captain Chris Banfield. Nearby Activities and Attractions: Dramatic, OCEAN-FRONT GOLF COURSES in nearby Lunenburg and Chester. TALL SHIP day trips, guided kayak tours on our superb kayak trails, scuba diving, whale watching, sea cave boat trips, deep-sea fishing and carriage rides can be arranged in nearby Lunenburg. SURFING TRIPS, lessons and rentals are in nearby Blue Rocks. Hiking & cycling trails pervade the province, including one over the ridge right behind the Lodge. Superb bird-watching from the Lodge and pier for loons, bald eagles, great blue herons, ospreys, kingfishers, hawks and diving ducks. Hummingbirds visit your kitchen window feeder every day (birding guides are in the Lodge library). Swim/tube from the 'secret' little nearby beaches with warmer ocean waters that are shallow enough for small children and have lovely views of the sea islands and harbor. Walk up the hill behind the house on a nearby dirt lane to enjoy a stunning sunrise and harbor views. Activities a Bit Further Afield: HIRTLE BEACH, very popular with picnickers, surfers, boogie boarders and hikers for the nice waves as well as for the outstanding Nature Conservancy Gaff Point walking trail (don't miss this), is 35 mins. away. Returning from Hirtle, visit the exciting OVENS SEA CAVES & the Nantucket-like village of Kingsburg, or cross the LaHavre River on the CABLE FERRY to lunch at the historic riverfront La Havre Bakery (detailed driving map in the Lodge living room desk). The rocky seascapes of Blue Rocks village, only 15 minutes away near Lunenburg, attract countless artists and, being near the open Atlantic, are quite exciting on a windy day. Carter Beach, a seaside preserve with Carribean-like clear blue waters, is one of our favorite picnic spots and is only an hour of very pleasant driving away. The lush Annapolis Valley, a New England-like area of farms & adorable villages, is 45 mins. away, and the hiking trails over there along the Bay of Fundy coast are spectacular, particularly the easy trail out to CAPE SPLIT with its dramatic 200-foot cliffs and views across the Bay of Fundy. And, of course, the countless miles of nearby water-side roads are some of the loveliest seaside drives, cycles and walks in North America! We were lucky to find Loon Lodge in 2003. We had been searching for a second home in Maine and New Hampshire for over a year, but couldn't find a house that was what we had dreamt about for so many years. Tired of real estate shopping, we took a short vacation to Nova Scotia, staying in the small, seaside village of Mahone Bay that we read about in a New York Times article. We bought Loon Lodge four days later, we were that certain we had found exactly what we wanted. And we think Loon Lodge will be exactly what you want also for your Nova Scotia vacation. Please note that, as Loon Lodge in is a rural area where all homes are on small private wells and private septic systems, overnight occupancy is limited to 6 people and there is no dishwasher. Email us anytime via FlipKey for more information, photos, or just to get acquainted. Even if your schedule or budget requires you to rent elsewhere, we'd be happy to share our local knowledge to guide your vacation planning. Jennifer and Terry McAdams Kearsarge, New Hampshire Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia The historic town of Mahone Bay is one of the prettiest harbors on the east coast of North America. The colorful homes and galleries, cozy harbor and hills above the water make this special harbor one of the finest in Nova Scotia. Our favorite activity is sitting on the Lodge Porch or pier and just enjoying the harbor sights and visiting yachts. An added bonus is the relative absence of fogs in Mahone Bay, probably due to the relatively warmer, shallower waters. We get fog a few mornings a week and they are generally gone by 10 AM. Walking, bike riding and boating are the favorite ways to see the local sites. The many miles of gorgeous local waterside roads are some of the Province's best for scenery. Nearby Lunenburg and Chester - both 15 minutes away - also historic towns, provide even more variety with attractive waterfronts, more restaurants, local theaters and festivals. The tiny village of Blue Rocks - near Lunenburg - is a great place to see crashing surf when the wind blows up. Dramatic Hirtle Beach with the adjacent Nature Conservancy Gaff Point Park are just 35 minutes away and well worth the drive for a seaside swim, picnic or walk along the rocky cliffs. You'll never be bored during your stay at Loon Lodge on Mahone Bay Harbor

I am happy to offer tips and advice about local events, day-trips, activities and dining options. The NeighborhoodChester Basin is the perfect base location for day-tripping. Chester is 8 minutes down the road in one direction and Mahone Bay is 15 minutes in the opposite direction. Lunenburg is 25 minutes to the South with all the fascinating twists and turns of the Lighthouse Route beyond. Summer Theater, art shows, shops and fabulous restaurants are all along the South Shore just minutes in either direction. The rail trail system is meters away and offers miles of relatively level trails for walking or cycling. The public boat launch is within one block as is the government wharf. The community has a rich history of ship building, fishing, gold mining and barrel making. The Government Wharf is a good spot to see visiting boats of all kinds and a place to watch the locals squid jigging or mackerel fishing. The Chester Basin Public Boat launch is a few hundred meters down Borgalds Point Road if you are travelling with kayaks or a small power boat. Borgalds Point Road runs along the shore just below my yard and is a very popular walking and cycling route. The Village itself has a restaurant, drug store, gas and convenience store, post office and Credit Union, all within a block. The UNESCO Heritage Town of Lunenburg and the picturesque Town of Mahone Bay are a few minutes drive farther down the South coast. There are many lovely beaches and great vistas in every direction. For those interested in the South Shore’s colourful history you will find the coastline dotted with remarkable architecture in quaint villages, a testament to the industry and history along this shore. Getting AroundFrom the Halifax International Airport take Hwy 102 south to Hammonds Plains Road at Exit 3a. Take Hammonds Plains Road to Tantallon and the junction with Hwy 103. Take Hwy 103 South and proceed to Exit 9. From the off ramp turn left and proceed for approximately 3 minutes to the stop sign at the junction with Highway#3. Turn left and immediately right at #5367. Parking is on the gravel area immediately to the left of the gate. If you wish to go out for the evening and not have to drive there is a reasonably priced taxi service available in the area. Other Things to NoteBreakfast is Continental style with seasonal fresh fruit and berries, yogurt and muesli, fresh muffins, home made preserves and great coffee. I can accommodate special diets with 48 hour notice.

The NeighborhoodThe cottage is nestled among a combination of year-round homes and seasonal cottages. Most of the neighbouring properties are seasonal and most of the activities on the lake occur on weekends. The area is very much a small community within a community and people are friendly and helpful. There are two sandy beaches nearby on the lake that rarely get used, but which guests also have access to if desired. Currently in Summer 2016, a neighbouring property owner is constructing a new house, so some construction noise and/or machinery may be heard during typical work hours. Other Things to NoteThe high speed internet in this location can be slow at times and is not really adequate for streaming videos or movies. However, it is sufficient for checking email, general basic web browsing, and streaming music.

The SpaceThis clean, bright, completely independent townhouse is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of our ocean front home. We are on a point overlooking the sparkling Atlantic and the islands of Mahone Bay. You have water views from every window and deck! This modern residence offers comfort and tranquility in a convenient location. Your residence for up to 7 has a private 2nd floor entrance and is about 1400 square feet. It features 4 decks, eat-in kitchen, living room with TV, 2 full baths and 2 bedrooms. There is also a sleeper couch. The bedroom (with the king-size bed) also has TV. The house has high-speed Internet and wifi. A private, small beach and a dock are just steps away. No pets are ever in your townhouse space, but we do have a cat on the ground floor of our townhouse. All our guests enjoy new, high quality 100% cotton linens. This includes sheets, comforter with duvet for king bed, and new comforters for other beds, 100% cotton towels, and blankets. There was a comment left by a recent guest about a wasp nest, but upon inspection, turns the nest is completely empty. No wasps at all, but quite an impressive engineering feat. We are leaving it where it is. If a wasp had appeared while out on the deck, it had to have come from somewhere else. We upgraded both the cable and Internet, but it unfortunately took the cable company 3 tries to finally get the WIFI fully functional again. It is now better than ever high-speed that reaches all parts of the house perfectly. Guest AccessYou have a private entrance to the 2nd floor townhouse apartment. All guests must be able to handle stairs! For your exclusive use are 2 large bedrooms. One bedroom has a king-size bed and the other has 3 twin beds. The bedrooms have carpet; all other rooms have ceramic or hardwood flooring. Both baths have showers, one also has a tub and one has a jacuzzi. The kitchen is fully equipped. All decks have seating. One deck has a hammock and the rear deck has a gas grill. (A washer and dryer are located in a bathroom but we were surprised to find that the 220 outlet installed by an electrician some time ago does not appear to be connected to an electrical panel! This is a tricky problem that we are trying to solve. In the meantime, a washer and dryer are available on the main floor of the house. As soon as the wiring mystery is solved, I will add a W/D to the amenities for the unit.) Check-in is 3 pm. Check-out is 10:30 am. Interaction with GuestsWe live in our separate townhouse unit in the same building, so are close by should you have any questions. We're always happy to recommend restaurants or things to do. Italian and some Spanish spoken. The NeighborhoodOur street is pure Nova Scotia; charming, quiet, and all about the sea. It's a great location for easy travel to some of Nova Scotia's best sites and a relaxing place to call home during your stay. Getting AroundA car is essential to get around. Tourist brochures and menus from some area restaurants are provided in the unit for your convenience.
