The SpaceIt is privately located in the centre of a double lot. 210 feet of shoreline. Quiet setting. Quiet Lake. Great fishing! Propane BBQ WiFi Cell phone reception is excellent Swimming is fabulous. Guest AccessStove, Microwave, BBQ, Firepit, Freezer, WiFi (No washer & dryer therefore guests are responsible for their own linens, towels, hand towels and tea towels.) Interaction with GuestsI am on the other side of the lake if you need me otherwise consider the place yours! The NeighborhoodArden is a small community West of Sharbot Lake off hwy #7. It is central to Ottawa and Peterborough. Arden has an active Community Centre where you can join a game of Euchre on Tuesday nights at 7pm. The Library is in the same building as the Community Centre. The hours vary during the week. Complimentary WiFi. There is a legion where you can purchase some groceries, play pool, darts or Euchre on Thursday nights. Your nearest full grocery store is in Sharbot Lake. You are very close to the old Kick & Push trail. The K&P Trail is a recreational trail that runs along the old Kingston and Pembroke Railway bed. The K&P was abandoned by its owner, Canadian Pacific Railway, between 1962 and 1986, and ran from Kingston to Renfrew, Ontario. (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundThe Kick n Push Trail is a great trail for easy hiking. If you go West on the trail off Arden Road, you will eventually arrive at High Falls. This is a beautiful old railway bridge overlooking running rapids. Other Things to NoteThe cottage is in fairly rustic mode during the winter months as the water will be shut off and it is winterized. What this means is that you have to haul water up from the lake. No water comes from the taps so it is one step up from camping in the winter. Means sponge bath, heating washing up water etc... Yes, there is an electric range so cooking and boiling water is not an issue. It is also heated primarily by wood. So you have to know how to make a woodstove fire and keep it going. Wood is provided. Therefore, when you arrive, the cottage inside temperature is about the same if not colder then outside. Once the woodstove is going, the place is toasty warm and this process usually takes 8 hours to go from -20 to 25 degrees. When we use it on the weekends, we arrive Friday at 5, get the woodstove going and pumping heat, by morning it is usually around 15 degrees and noon we have it toasty at 25 for tshirts. It is not for the faint at heart. Wintering at our cottage is for the real rugged sort. That is why the cost to rent in the winter is reduced. Basically, the rental covers the cost of the hydro and the wood consumed. There is a lovely cedar outhouse as the indoor plumbing is winterized. I usually open up the drain in the kitchen for brushing teeth and dishes but then you have to remember to refill the trap with anti-freeze. This is also provided. The second cabin does not have heat therefore you would require and electric heater. It is insulated but it would require patience while it warms up! It is a private access road. Therefore, if it snows, you will need to arrange your own snow removal. This is at your own cost to you.

The SpaceThe loft area sleeps 1 to 4 guests in 2 beds; 1 queen and 2 twins. The beds are distributed on the upper level in two rooms. In keeping with the original feel of the structure, the barn is in fact a loft and therefore the bedrooms are not separated by a wall but not doors. Located on the ground floor, the rustic kitchen is nicely equipped for your cooking pleasure. A bar-sized fridge, Kuradori cooktop, plates, cups, mugs, utensils & pans are included. Enjoy your breakfast looking out over the pastures and fields. The repurposing of the barn didn't include a full-size kitchen sink. There is faucet and sink in close proximity to the kitchen area but when it comes to the dishes - it’s your getaway so we'll do the dishes. During the day we'll pick them up and drop them back off to you as quickly as possible. Located on the main floor, the two-piece bathroom is a definitive, modern contrast to the rustic feel of the barn with clean lines and bright lighting. Right beside the sofas and loveseats, and just a few steps from the hand crafted walk-in stone rain shower is the four person hot tub. Relax and enjoy a movie from the comfort of the warm water, or from the comfort of the sofas & lounge chairs. Renovated to high insulation efficiency standards, in the summer the barn easily maintains a comfortable temperature. Floor fans are also available as needed. In the colder months, the entire barn is heated from a central boiler system that uses wood as a renewable and sustainable non-petroleum heat source. For your additional comfort and ambiance, there is also a wood stove located on the main floor. We provide the wood, and it will be neatly stacked inside for your convenience. Guest AccessWith nearly 700 acres of woodlands, sugar bush, primeval swamps, wetlands and rolling pastures, there is more than a lifetime of natural beauty to discover. Our family has been stewards of this land for five generations, maintaining a pristine environment not by accident but because we care. We invite you to wander under the canopy of maples and oaks, or simply rest under the cedars. Then we let you enjoy your sacred country time. We live just across the yard and are available to answer questions and/or trouble shoot throughout your stay. An intercom phone system provides an easy and private way for you to reach us. Chunk and Carson are the beautiful, gentle canine guardians of the property. The SpaceWe welcome household pets but reserve the right to refuse certain breeds, i.e.. Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Doberman, German Shepherds, et al. We have a large fenced back yard and require that pet owners respect the "poop and scoop" considerations. Guest AccessAccess to the second floor rooms can be obtained through private entrance from the balcony - guests can come and go at all hours without disturbing the other guests. Guests have the use of the 280 foot balcony complete with chairs, tables and umbrellas and comfortable couches. The ground level patio, complete with chairs, tables and umbrellas are also available to our guests. For those who wish to go out and have a good time at different local festivals and shows we offer complimentary shuttle services to and from the festivities. Interaction with GuestsWe can offer recommendations of interesting festivals, shops and stores, places and tours that are available in and around our area - include taking advantage of one of a kind possibilities in close by Madoc and the hamlets and surrounding areas associated with Tweed. The NeighborhoodOur closest neighbour is the original Methodist Church built in 1864 - known as "The Marble Church". After a fire in the 1890's the insides of the church were rebuilt but parishioners had moved on and become affiliated with other local churches. The parsonage [now Actinolite Bed and Breakfast] was rented out to families and had several business activities throughout the years. The Marble Church took on a new life about ten years ago and is very successful operating under the Tweed & Area Arts Council, hosting live theatre, jamborees, plays, student theatre and a vast array of other enjoyable performances. The Actinolite Community Hall, which was originally built in 1864 is directly across the street and offers space for a number of activities and is available for use at a reasonable rental fee. The area has a number of excellent restaurants and public parks and lakes - 3 or 4 fishing derbies a year too. Arrangements can be made to have a taste and tour of our local Potter Settlement Winery, just a stone throw away. Getting AroundWe have excellent free parking. We are conveniently located, just 9/10th of a km south of Highway 7 about half way between Toronto and Ottawa. For those taking in the many activities offered in and around Tweed, we are just 7 kms north of downtown Tweed [the Tim Horton's stop].
