The SpaceThis is a well appointed century home within walking distance to downtown St Catharines for access to a variety of restaurants and pubs. It is only a 15 minute drive to Niagara Falls and a 20 minute drive to Niagara on the Lake, a lovely historical town and home of the world famous Shaw Festival for professional theatre. (Public transportation is also available.) We are in the heart of wine country with well over 100 wineries in the surrounding area, most of which have tours and tastings. The Welland Canal which passes right through the city also makes for a very interesting visit as you can watch huge shipping vessels 'cllimb' the locks as they travel through the Great Lakes. Toronto, a large cosmopolitan city, is just over an hour away. Guests would have access to the bright sunroom for watching TV, perhaps playing with the Wii or just relaxing. They are also welcome to use the kitchen facilities and In warm weather there is a screened in porch which is lovely for enjoying a bug free meal. WiFi is available. There is off road parking as well. Breakfast could be self catered or prepared. I have three bedrooms so would be able to accommodate up to 5 guests. The double room on the second floor has an antique bed with a custom made mattress adorned with a handmade Mennonite quilt. Facing east means lots of morning sunshine. The bathroom would be shared by occupants of the queen room. The queen room on the second floor has a very comfortable queen bed and is a Florida-like coral and white decor. The bathroom would be shared by occupants of the double room. I regret that my home is not suitable for young children.

You can hike through the ancient plunge pools and see potholes and discover ant lions, tulip trees and rare ferns such as the walking fern. I own a company called Niagara Nature, Wine & Garden Tours so could guide you if you wanted a naturalist along! I have books and maps to lend you and itineraries I've made up that will enhance your visit and lead you on some special adventures!

The SpaceOur Jordan Station house is over 100 years old, built for the son of this small town's patriarch from the 19th century. It was renovated by the previous owners and we have continued to update and upgrade the house since becoming the owners in May 2010. We have been renting the house since then but we only began renting on AirBnB in 2015. We have had over 100 amazing, all-positive reviews over those years (and a guest book full of warm & wonderful thanks) and many of our guests return each year. The main floor consists of a large, gourmet-friendly, country-kitchen with a large kitchen table to sit at and talk or eat. The kitchen looks out onto the spacious deck with patio furniture and a large, landscaped yard. Just off the kitchen is a bathroom (including a shower) and the laundry room. The living room/parlour is at the front of the house and looks out onto the front porch. The living room is furnished with a couple of comfortable sitting chairs and a sofa, perfect for a quiet afternoon reading or napping, or an evening of lively and friendly conversation. (Almost all of the rooms in the house have a collection of books for your reading pleasure.) The original sliding "pocket doors" are still in working order. Right next to the living room is the dining room with an antique dining table and and a turn-of-the century jam cupboard full of locally purchased antique trays and plates for your use. On the second floor you will find the master bedroom with a queen-size bed and a large walk-in closet. The second bedroom on this floor comes with a double-bed, antique dresser and a charming, hand-painted wall mural. The main family bathroom is also on this second floor and is large and modern, and has a wonderful full-size bath tub, perfect for a long soak! The third floor of the house is the attic-loft. It is spacious and bright with a couple of sitting chairs, a futon-double-bed/couch and a single bed tucked away in an alcove. The loft has a flat-screen HD-TV connected to a 130+ channel satellite dish and a DVD player with an interesting selection of movies/TV-series for both the adult's and children's enjoyment. Also kept up here is a fun collection of board games for everyone to play. Kids & teens love this attic getaway as they often make the attic their own space during their stay! Guest AccessLinens and towels are supplied. Access to the house is via a lock-box kept at the house. Guests have access to the whole house except for the basement and garage which are used for owner storage. Patio furniture and the propane BBQ are available from Apr-Oct. Bicycle rentals are available next door. Interaction with GuestsA full instruction manual will be sent shortly before the rental period with driving directions and details on the house along with our personal recommendations for dining, shopping, golfing and wineries. The NeighborhoodOur house is set in Jordan Station, a small, quiet village with a number of century homes with nearby orchards and vineyards. It is just a 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk to the village of Jordan and it's stylish food and clothing shops, the Jordan Tavern (live music on weekends), Cave Springs Winery and the Inn On The Twenty. Getting AroundOur house is just outside the popular village of Jordan. There is local shopping nearby but it is only a 10 minute drive to two different shopping centres in St. Catharines. The QEW highway is nearby allowing ~25 minute drives to Niagara Falls or Niagara-On-The-Lake. Downtown Toronto is about a 60-minute drive if you travel outside of rush-hour.

The SpaceMine is a 'Bi-level house, meaning it has four levels, the lower two of which have a private entrance and are for one guest, and the upper two of which are for me, the owner, and are occasionally shared with another guest. Each apt has a private entrance, and include Bathroom & Bed/Room. Each also include more than 400 square feet of open concept Living/Kitchen/Dining/Sitting Area. Each also includes lcd or led monitors and Apple TV, plus sofas and reclining chairs. These guest accommodations are best for 1 professional each. Guest AccessEach apt has a private entrance. There is sheltered outside bicycle parking. Interaction with GuestsI travel a great deal, and keep a flat in Toronto for business, so there isn't much time for mingling, not to mention 'interacting', though I am happy to chat and/or share a drink with my guests, depending on their interests. Getting AroundMy home is about 15 minutes walk to public transportation (bus) on Glenridge Avenue (the main bus route in St. Catharines), less than 12 minutes walk (up the Niagara Escarpment) to the main entrance of Brock University, and less than 15 minutes bicycle ride (or bus ride) to St. Catharines downtown, or the Pen Centre (St. Catharines' largest indoor shopping mall). Other Things to NoteI prefer guests who are looking for relatively long stays (normally at least four months for the lower, and at least one month for the upper). I also prefer vegetarian guests. In July and August, I occasionally welcome couples who only wish to stay in the lower apt for a week or two, but from September - June, the minimum stay is, as noted, four months. As for the upper apartment, although there are three bedrooms, only one is available for a guest, as the others are used by me, the owner. Minimum stay in the upper is normally one month; however, during July and August, I will, under special circumstances, consider stays of no less than one week. Both apartments are ideal for only one guest in each.

The SpaceThe guest room has one good quality twin bed, a comfortable chair, bedside table, chest of drawers and laptop table. The room has a curtained casement window that opens easily for fresh air and the glass is frosted for privacy from the neighbouring house. You can count on draft-free warmth and comfort in the winter and air-conditioning in hot summer months. I have whole house air cleaning. (Did you note that I have a dog?) My home is 1 1/2 hours from Toronto, 20 minutes from Niagara Falls by car and about 25 minutes from Niagara-on-the-Lake. You can bring a bicycle on GO Transit and the St. Catharines stop is close to my house. There are also bike rental and delivery options (see Guidebook). I am a 15-20 minute walk from downtown where there are restaurants and a farmers' market 3 days a week. Some food products can be purchased in a little mall down the street. A bigger mall is on the other side of the freeway - 15 minute walk. I do not use toxic cleaning products etc. so this is a good place if you have allergies to them or are just, like me, sensitive to chemical smells. There are many green features to the house such as a tankless water heater which means you adjust the hot water temperature. My home is Bullfrog powered, lowering my home's emission footprint and supporting green energy. Niagara is best known for its wineries and I am equidistant between the 2 major areas, Beamsville Bench to the west and Niagara-on-the-Lake to the east. There are great conservation areas and trails in the area including the Bruce Trail. Take a look at the Niagara Greenbelt Gateway website (you'll have to search, Airbnb doesn't allow URLs here.) Brock University is about 10 minutes away by car. There is good professional theatre in St. Catharines and Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake is about a 25 minute drive. There is also quality music, literary and visual arts here. To get to Henley Rowing Course is 35 minutes by bus, 10 minutes by car and I can advise on different ways to get there by bike. Guest AccessYou will have access to the wireless internet.* We will share the bathroom, kitchen and dining area(s). In warmer weather, you are welcome to enjoy the garden and back room for sitting or dining or sit in the little front room. My kitchen is mid-renovation but fully functional with gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher and fridge. *Please note I do not have unlimited internet. I expect guests to be reasonable with their internet usage. Interaction with GuestsWomen guests are preferred and I always look for strong Airbnb verifications or other references. I like to help and am happy to answer questions but I expect us both to go about our own business and I'm not a travel agent! My house is small so expect close quarters - the shared bathroom is between our bedrooms. This is my home and this is Airbnb - if you are looking for a hotel or b&b experience, please go there instead. I expect guests to be here either on business or with a leisure itinerary, I am uncomfortable when guests seem to have no reason for being in St. Catharines and burrow in my room for long periods. My home may be of particular interest to fellow artists and dharma practitioners and I have often hosted academics attending classes or conferences at Brock University. Take a good look at my Airbnb Guidebook for many places mentioned above. The NeighborhoodThis is a quiet residential neighbourhood and is not a destination in itself. Getting AroundParking is available only on the street and please do be careful about not blocking the opposite driveway. There are no street parking time restrictions or fees. The walk to the inter-city bus terminal (Megabus or Greyhound) is about 15 minutes and there is a City bus close-by that will get you there sooner or you can call a cab. The GO Transit bus stop is at Fairview Mall (see map) and also about a 15 minute walk (over the freeway). The VIA train station is further away and it's best to take a cab (10 minutes only but no bus service). Other Things to NoteI am 5 minutes in a car from Yoga by Sarah, Pilates Emporium and a large and lovely municipal swimming pool is not much farther away.
