Also, if you allow them on the bed than please bring your own blankets. Also, they must be leashed and cleaned up after when outside so they don't leave gifts for the neighbors. Beautiful sand beaches are where Mother Nature lovingly places them! Who are we to ask why? Nestled along a rocky shoreline between two conservation areas, the Leith Beach House is a beautiful, sand beach "oasis" of a three bedroom waterfront cottage located on the shores of Georgian Bay. From the crafty folk art "fish" truss ends to the shipwrecked boat, this cottage will awe both young and old visitors! Like every waterfront cottage should, the view to and of the water is celebrated. While a monstrous 55" plasma TV screen dominates the room, the open living room / dining area has an even larger "screen" of large windows and sliding glass doors to provide a panoramic view of Georgian Bay. The main living area has two couches, a comfortable chair, oil fired stove, and dining room area with wooden family table and chairs that will seat everyone in your group comfortably. With its easy access to the dining room, the large kitchen - with fridge, stove, dishwasher and plenty of cupboard space - is a joy to work and entertain in! It too celebrates the water view and the skylight adds plenty more sunlight too!! Adjacent to the kitchen there is a mainfloor washroom (3-piece with shower stall) which doubles as the laundry room (with washer and dryer). Further down the hall is a small office with a fold out couch, and high speed internet. A short flight of stairs leads upstairs to the bedrooms. There are 3 bedrooms here and 2 bathrooms. One bathroom serves two bedrooms and a luxurious separate en-suite bathroom is part of the large master bedroom suite. While the cottage has its own large sand beach, it is located between the Hibou and Leith Spit Conservation Areas. Both have their own sandy beaches and wildlife areas. Hibou has a long boardwalk with interpretive walks through a wetland and beaver lodge/dam. Enjoy a quiet walk and enjoy the outdoors and later, warm up and get cozy in front of the outdoor fire pit at the cottage. There is also a large deck facing the lake to enjoy. The deck provides a commanding view of the lake and sunsets over the water. The deck comes equipped with comfortable lounge chairs and a patio table to enjoy all your meals outdoors. There is a picnic table on a separate wooden deck nearer to the beach too! Bring sunscreen! Remarkably, the beach is blessed with full sun all day long (assuming there's sun that is!). Unfortunately, the hot tub is not for renters' use. The cottage is within walking distance of the historic Leith Church, which is the burial place of the renowned local Group of Seven painter, Tom Thomson. Or slip into Owen Sound on Sunday nights for the Summer Harbour Nights concerts featuring live music of all genres. The cottage is close to many attractions, either walk and grab a bite at the Bay River Restaurant or it is only a ten minute drive to Owen Sound with its shopping mall, restaurants, museum, theatres and art galleries. Additional amenities include: coffee maker, tea pot, high speed lite, pillows, dishes, pots and pans, television hd (55"), fire pit, cutlery, patio furniture (patio table, umbrella, 4 chairs,, cd player, cleaning supplies, vacuum, blender (magic bullet), blankets, refrigerator freezer. The SpaceRustic, private, cozy, romantic, comfortable... "glamping" as it's called... the cordwood cabin is a unique space and place to stay and like having your own personal retreat. This listing, the photos & captions, provide lots of detail but feel free to ask for any clarification whatsoever before you book. CABIN AMBIANCE: The cabin was crafted using the cordwood masonry technique by Rob Roy, iconic proprietor of the Earthwood Building School of West Chazy, NY. It features a living roof, massive posts and beams from local Amish mills, a flagstone floor fabricated from Wiarton quarry stone, and cordwood walls built from trees felled on the property. This quaint and cozy structure nestles itself organically into the forest which surrounds it and offers exceptional privacy and peace… all the charm and nature connection found in camping, but waaaay more comfortable & convenient :-) CABIN FACILITIES: The cabin does not have running water but alternate conveniences are at hand: a privy opposite the cabin is serviced by a flush-action portable toilet; a Victorian washstand in the cabin; kettles and butane stove to heat water for washing or drinking. If you like, try going full-on “pioneer” mode and be self-sufficient with cabin & privy, or feel free to use the full 4-piece washroom in the main homestead, or whatever combination of the two is most convenient. The cabin is heated by woodstove and a plentiful supply of wood. In the summer, the stone floor keeps it cool on all but the hotest days. A hardwood futon frame and new eight-layer mattress provide comfortable seating and sleeping for one or two people. (In case you are concerned about such things, but too polite to ask, the mattress has a breathable micro-pore cover which locks out moisture, bed bugs, etc.). There is also limited electrical power for small items like chargers, lights, etc. Guest AccessIn addition to a cozy cabin to relax and rest in, your AirBnb stay also includes to 50 acres of private woodlands with 4km of trails (it’s like having your own personal park!) as well as some facilities at the main homestead (located 100m from the cabin): + you may use the full washroom between 8AM-10PM + you are welcomed to the living room, dining room, porch & deck areas during most waking hours + you can arrange to use the kitchen for light meal preparation + book time to use the wood-fired barrel sauna In addition to using the outdoor fireplace, table & chairs, and hammock by the cabin, guests may also use the campfire pit and gathering area at the ruins of the original settler's barn foundation. The main homestead is completely off-grid, with no power line connection to the “outside world”. Electricity is generated on-site from solar energy, plus a propane backup generator (a necessary evil on some short, grey days of winter). The core and soul of the homestead is a circa-1850 log home which was relocated to this site in the 1980s. In 2004, a top-to-bottom renovation and addition, along with a new septic system, and deep drilled well, brought modern conveniences while still retaining its rustic charm. Interaction with GuestsIt's all about nature, peace and privacy here, and you should feel welcome to engage in those however you wish. I enjoy chatting with guests, or their having their company on the porch or in the living room. But if what you want to do is seclude yourself and do your own thing that is totally fine too. It’s your time and space to make whatever kind of experience you like. As host & property owner, I will be around most of the time if you require assistance or have questions about anything on- or off-property. I have broad knowledge of the local area, from the Beaver Valley all the way up to Tobermory and down to Kincardine, and I am always happy to recommend routes, suggest activities, eating places, and so on. I have a particular interest in off-the-beaten-track places, and unique less-touristy experiences, without hordes of people. I am pleased to provide a general orientation to off-grid living to any interested guests, or a more-structured comprehensive half-day workshop on how it all works is available at extra cost. The NeighborhoodThe Off-Grid Retreat is located on the doorstep of a large concentration of natural, cultural and food/drink attractions in Grey County and the Bruce Peninsula. Lake Huron's famous sunsets and gentle beaches are a 30 minute drive to Southampton. The waters of Georgian Bay are as close as 20 minutes to downtown Owen Sound. The farthest point, Tobermory, and Bruce Peninsula National Park are less than 90 minutes drive. Getting AroundIn contrast to driving to the Muskokas, you are unlikely to encounter traffic delays or frustrations on the way to Grey-Bruce counties. Once you’re off the 401 or 410 (depending which way you’re coming) it is usually smooth sailing. The drive here takes approx: 3 hours from Mississauga, west Toronto, or London; 2½ hours from Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton or Kitchener-Waterloo; 2 hours from Brampton or Milton. Complimentary pick-up & drop-off is offered to guests who are through-hiking the Bruce Trail (closest access: Inglis Falls, 10 min drive) or travelling by Greyhound public transit (downtown Owen Sound, 20 min drive). At extra cost, guests can arrange shuttle service for day-hiking or paddling the nearby Saugeen River. Other Things to NotePRIVACY: There are two AirBnb rentals on the Off-Grid Retreat: Private Camping and Cordwood Cabin. Guests are never booked concurrently into the cabin and camping (unless they are all part of the same group)... once one is booked the other is marked off as unavailable. If you would like to reserve BOTH cabin and camping in advance, book cabin at usual rate then contact host to arrange a booking at 50% off regular rate for camping. BREAKFAST: Join the host for breakfast at the large Mennonite dining table in the main house or have it brought to you in the cabin. We'll work out particulars the day before. You will receive a breakfast that is wholesome, plentiful, homemade, and will include as much local and/or organic food as possible. This household is ovo-lacto vegetarian but, with advance notice, most dietary preferences can be accommodated. CELLPHONE/INTERNET ACCESS: Depending on the phone and the carrier, signal (usually 2-3 bars) is available in the cabin and most areas of the property but it can sometimes get spotty depending on location and weather conditions. Guests without their own internet access can arrange to use my wireless (4G) hotspot at extra cost. TRAILS: The private woodlands have several well-marked trails, 4 km in total, looping through varied types of forest, each with its own character: mystical cedars, feathery larches, towering red pines, dense spruces, hardwood bush dominated by sugar maples, and white pines that whisper to you in the breeze. Guests will receive a colour trail map. COUNTRY LIVING: Being situated in a rural area, at certain times of year you may occasionally hear (or, ah, smell) agricultural activities in the neighbouring vicinity. Similarly, the trade-off for living surrounded by the good vibes and plentiful oxygen from tens of thousands of trees is inconveniences like insects… welcome to country life! I generally know the times of year these are most impactful but nothing can be guaranteed. If it is a concern, please inquire before booking.
