I have an apartment in the basement. We have separate entrances. Guest AccessYou have access to BB-Que, patio, Washer and Dryer, Living room, Kitchen, TV and WIFI. Interaction with GuestsSince l live downstairs you will have the upstairs to yourself unless someone is renting the other room. I usually am around to check you in and give you a tour of the space and answer any questions about your plans. If l can't be there l leave a lock at the front door so you can enter the house on your own. We sometimes have a bonfire if the weather is nice. I leave it up to you how much interaction we have as l also respect the fact that people need some down time after a busy day in Algonquin Park. Usually if you are only here for one night you will only see me when you check in. I live in the apartment downstairs. I was raised in the tourist industry so I love being a hostess plus I have 30 years as a Natural Health Counselor and Coach. I work at the Couples Resort's Algonquin Spa down the street. The NeighborhoodI love that this street is quiet, you can walk on trails right behind the house or go to the lake to watch the sun set or rise. The beach is only 2km away and has a lovely view of sunsets. My neighbours are all friendly and private at the same time. I live on a peninsula surrounded by Galeairy Lake but I am on the hill amongst Maple trees. The lake is 11km long and 80% of it is in Algonquin Park. There are many interior camping sites on this lake and on an unoccupied one you can stop for a picnic. If you want to go canoeing on Galeairy Lake you can drive right up to the docks about 2km away. Make reservations with (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) is the place for whitewater rafting tours and is a 45 minute drive from here. The village is within a 10 minute walk. most stores are open until 6pm. The SpaceThe Eco-Lodge is situated so deep in the forests there is no car access, no telephone or electricity poles, and the only people you will see are other Lodge guests. The parking lot is 2.5 km away, so guests hike (about 25 minutes) through Algonquin Park to get to our building. The Eco-Lodge is completely off-grid, but we create all of our own power from a micro-hydro generator we installed n our waterfall. Since the Lodge is so remote there is a good chance to see animals like moose, beavers, and deer. Sometimes we get lucky with wolves howling at night while we sit around the bonfire. Guest AccessGuests have access to free canoes and a paddle boat on our private lake. They can also use the outdoor hot tub or wood fired sauna. We have 40 km of hiking/ski trails that start right at our front door. And there is horseback riding available nearby. Interaction with GuestsThe Lodge staff are there to answer any questions, help with starting the bonfire and giving a wolf howl demonstration. They also prepare all the meals. The NeighborhoodAlgonquin Park is a world famous wilderness park. It is over 7,600 square kilometres in size, which is equivalent to 1/4 the size of Belgium or Hawaii, and roughly the same size as Wales! There are over 3000 moose, 2000 black bears, and 40 packs of wolves within its' borders. While at the Lodge you should definitely take a day trip by canoe to High Falls, or do the hike to the Grand View Lookout. We'll provide maps and any needed directions. Getting AroundGreyhound bus to Maynooth and we can pick you up there for $30/person. If there are two or more people it will be cheaper to rent a car than to take the bus. We'll send you detailed driving instructions when you sign up. Other Things to NoteThe Algonquin Eco-Lodge won the 2012 Ontario Tourism Award for Sustainable Tourism.

The SpaceI have 2 bedrooms to rent on the main floor. You share the kitchen, living room and bathroom which has a jacuzzi bath- tub/shower. The kitchen has a basic stock of coffee, tea, spices etc. I live in a separate apartment downstairs. You can rent the whole floor if you book both bedrooms. Guest AccessYou have your own key to get into the front door. I go through the back door and there is a doorway separating the upstairs where you are, from downstairs where I am. Interaction with GuestsI am 99% of the time there to greet you and show you around, unless something comes up and then I leave the key in a lock on the door and give you a passcode. In that case l will catch up with you later. There will be days when I have time to interact but basically you are on your own and have lots of privacy unless someone is renting the other bedroom. I like to give people their privacy so if you would like to chat just come outside and join us around the campfire or in the yard where we will be relaxing. If you are only here for one night you will only see me when you check in unless we are outside having a campfire and you can always join us there.. I live downstairs so you can reach me if you need any assistance or have any questions. The NeighborhoodHere are my suggestions. We know all our neighbours. Its a quiet friendly street and nice to go for a walk around the block or over to the Bear Trail. We have beautiful sunsets that you can see from the beach which is 2km away. If you want to canoe on our lake you can make a reservation with (URL HIDDEN) and drive less than 2km to get your canoe which is at the dock. Take a picnic lunch with you. You will find places to go ashore. Galeairy lake is 80% in Algonquin Park and is 11km long. If you are interested in Whitewater rafting tours Madawaka Kanu Centre is 45 minutes away. See their web site (URL HIDDEN) A trip only takes a couple hours. If you like biking you can rent (at Lake of Two Rivers store) or bring your own to Algonquin Park's railway bike trail which is nice and flat. There are several access points besides Lake of two rivers. It is 16km one way if you do the whole trail. If you are looking to see Moose, they are mostly out near the swamps along Hwy 60 in the Park at dusk and dawn, but in May you can see them anytime of the day so watch for cars parked on the side of the hwy, they are watching a moose or two. If you want to go horseback riding you can call the Couples Resort at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and make reservations. Adventure stables is 2km from here. Getting AroundYou need to have a car to get around and I have free parking of course. Other Things to NoteI have a fire pit and patio in the backyard with a BBQ for your use. The SpaceWelcome to THE LAKER. This retro cabin was built in the 1980s when this historic property was still known as "Riverview Cottages." The cabin's natural retro charm has been preserved since it was built. The Laker is now a certified Bongopix RETRO cabin and belongs to Whitney's wackiest accommodation: Camp Bongopix. The Laker features the best retro media setup offered at Camp Bongopix: a one-of-a-kind 1960s Zenith television, a mind-blowing 1970s hi-fi stereo, and the legendary Nintendo 64. Also included are POGs. This cabin is specifically designed to entertain fun groups. There are 2 bedrooms with one queen bed in each bedroom. There is also a pullout couch in the living room. Bathroom includes: toilet, shower, sink. Bedding and towels are INCLUDED. The Laker also includes a private deck and your own fire pit area. Parking is free. The cabin is winterized so it can be used all winter long! Guest AccessGuests have the entire cabin to themselves. You also get a private fire pit, outdoor deck, charcoal BBQ, and a private picnic bench. We have a small sandy beach and three docks on our property that all of our guests share. Please note: you must bring your own firewood and charcoal. The cabin is stocked with retro goodness. We have a beautiful hi-fi stereo, retro TV, and N64. Upon arrival your cabin will be stocked with VHS tapes, N64 games, and vinyl records. You can swing by our main lodge and browse our huge collection if you want to pick out specific titles of vinyl, VHS, and N64 games. You can borrow more for free! In the winter months Laker Cabin guests have free use of our snowshoes and cross-country skis. Please notify us in advance if you wish to use our gear so that we can make sure to have it ready for you. We have canoes and kayaks available for you to borrow free of charge. Please inquire with us directly when you wish to use our boats - just so that we can equip you with the proper safety gear (lifejackets, safety kit, paddles, etc.) Interaction with GuestsWe are EXTREMELY OUTGOING. We love meeting new people, exchanging stories, and sharing laughter. We have bonfires often and we like to gather all of our guests together. We promote a social atmosphere and we also encourage all of our guests to mingle with each other. Our favourite activity is to talk about Algonquin Park (Andrea works in Algonquin Park) and play music with our guests. Mike is a professional photographer so if you like photography let him know - he's always eager for nerdy photography chats! We are FULL of recommendations for activities if you have questions about what to do!!! The NeighborhoodWHITNEY IS THE BEST! We are the TRUE gateway to Algonquin Park. Our lake, Galeairy Lake, connects DIRECTLY into Algonquin. You can begin a canoe trip into the park simply by launching from our dock - we are essentially our own access point! If you're not going into the park's interior, then you can drive to the East Gate (5 minutes away), purchase a permit, and explore any of the 15 trails found along Highway 60. Whitney is fully serviced by a pub (The Mad Musher), beer store, grocery store, pizzeria, breakfast diner, pharmacy, and gas station. All of these amenities are within a 5 minute walk from the chalet!!! If you're doing some camping and need gear then you can go to Opeongo Outfitters about a 2 minute drive from us. They rent and sell all the gear you would ever need. Getting Around99% of people drive to get to us. Having said that, there is PARKBUS that departs from Ottawa in the high season only (May-September). Parkbus is a new bus service and the first stop departing from Ottawa is in Whitney. You can get to us directly from Ottawa by bus in the high summer season. Parkbus from Toronto: take Parkbus all the way to the last stop: Opeongo Lake. We can arrange to pick you up from Lake Opeongo. Please inquire directly so that we can coordinate and give you more details. If you don't have a car the other option is the following: take a Greyhound bus to either Peterborough, Bancroft, or the little town of Maynooth. We'll have to arrange to pick you up for a reasonable fee although we would love to host you so we'll do what we can to arrange a ride to our place! Keep in mind that it will be difficult to experience Algonquin Park without a car; if you're interested in exploring the many hiking trails in Algonquin, we highly recommend that you use a car as your main means of transportation. Other Things to NoteWe're the type of place that is more suited towards young adult travelers, couples, and groups of friends. We are not a kid-friendly kinda place. That being said, we welcome families during select times of the year. If you're interested in bringing your family, give us a shout and we'll let you know when our "family-friendly" dates are! NO WIFI, NO INTERNET. If wifi is really important to you then you might not like Camp Bongopix. This is a place that encourages people to forget about their phones and rewind to the 80s. If you absolutely need internet then you can walk to a pub 300 metres away that offers free wifi. There are other cabins on our property but you get The Laker all to yourself. You also get your own fire pit/picnic bench. Our cabins are meant to encourage social interaction between travellers and if Camp Bongopix is busy then we're not always a quiet place. If you're looking for 100% solitude then we recommend that you camp in Algonquin Park. We promote a social and "hostel-like" atmosphere. Camp Bongopix is best suited for energetic travellers that are eager to meet new people, play music together, tell stories at the bonfire, and share a few laughs over some drinks. We strongly believe in the Airbnb philosophy and we only accept true Airbnb travelers. Please tell us about yourself when you make an inquiry and let us know why you want to stay at Camp Bongopix! We only consider travelers who have a thoughtful Airbnb profile (include a good photo & bio). We get lots and lots of requests every day, and if you really want to stand out and make us excited, share a little bit of who you are and what interests you about our listing. We are super passionate about what we do, and our goal is to meet people who are equally as enthusiastic (and crazy!) as we are. Airbnb is all about making connections and building relationships. We want to make sure that every single person who comes to stay with us at Camp Bongopix will be comfortable with our no-frills, social cabins, and will get the most out of their time here. And maybe make some friends along the way! We're the type of place that is more suited towards young adult travelers, couples, and groups of friends. We are not a kid-friendly kinda place. That being said, we welcome families during select times of the year. If you're interested in bringing your family, give us a shout and we'll let you know when our "family-friendly" dates are!

Hyrule Cabin was built in the late 1950s. It is part of an old historic resort, "Riverview Cottages." It was owned by a mysterious German lady for decades. For years the German owners exclusively invited their friends and family from abroad to stay at the cabins. They never advertised, so these unique retro cabins have virtually remained a secret. Now that ownership has changed we intend to share these charming (and practically antique) buildings with travelers visiting Algonquin Park! This particular cabin, "Hyrule Cabin," has been impeccably preserved and meticulously decorated. It is meant to be a social outdoors experience. Allow us to rewind your reality to the 1980s cottage lifestyle. Guest AccessGuests have the entire cabin to themselves. You also get a private fire pit and a private picnic bench (please bring your own firewood). We have a small sandy beach and three docks on our property that all of our guests share. We love meeting new people, exchanging stories, and sharing laughter. You can stop by our house, AKA the Lake Fever Lodge, if you'd like to chat or have any questions about the area. We can of course provide you with maximum privacy if that's what you prefer. Andrea works in Algonquin Park and Mike is a professional photographer. We march to the beat of our own drum. The NeighborhoodWhitney is our favourite town ever. You can paddle into Algonquin Park right from our private dock in about 45 minutes (you are allowed to borrow our canoes/kayaks for free). Otherwise, you can use one of our bikes. Or you can drive into Algonquin Park in 5 minutes. We are located about 300 metres from an awesome pub, a wonderful breakfast diner, a charming grocery store, and a BEER store. Running low on supplies? You can walk to all amenities in 5 minutes (please note that everything closes at 6 pm). Getting AroundWhitney is a very special town because it is remotely located "in the bush" but it features excellent walkability. Once you're in Whitney you won't need a car. We have a pub, restaurant, grocery store and LCBO all within walking distance. If you're keen to experience Algonquin Park, it's a 5 minute drive to the East Gate from Camp Bongopix. If you want this experience but aren't sure where to start, tell us! We can arrange to lend you a hand into the backcountry if time permits. We're hardcore campers and love a good trip into the bush. Welcome to MewTwo Retro Cabin. This retro cabin was built in the 1950s when this historic property was still known as "Riverview Cottages." The cabin's natural retro charm has been preserved since it was built. MewTwo is now a certified Bongopix RETRO cabin and belongs to Whitney's wackiest accommodation: Camp Bongopix. This cabin is named after 2 things: our favourite campground in Algonquin Park - Mew Lake. And it's also an homage to the legendary Pokemon character, MewTwo. We are Nintendo geeks and we can't help it! Like all of the Camp Bongopix retro cabins, MewTwo features a sweet retro media setup: a super retro television, a mini stereo + solid collection of audio cassettes, and SUPER NINTENDO. Also included are POGs, Balderdash, and SIEGE - an excellent strategy board game. MewTwo accommodates 2 people comfortably. You can squeeze 4 if you bring an air mattress. The couches are not ideal for sleeping although you can try. There is NO shower - rather, there is only a BATH. The "essentials" are NOT provided. You must bring your OWN: bedding, pillow, blankets, soap/shampoo, toiletries, and towels. MewTwo includes a private deck, charcoal BBQ, and your own fire pit area. Please note: you must bring your own firewood and charcoal. Upon arrival your cabin will be stocked with retro goodness: 5 VHS tapes, 3 SNES games, and 20 audio cassettes. All media is carefully curated so you can expect some entertaining titles! You can swing by our main lodge and browse our huge collection or Super Nintendo games and VHS tapes. You can borrow more for free! Having said that, there is PARKBUS that departs from Ottawa (Search Parkbus if you don't know about it - it's great). Parkbus is a new bus service and the first stop departing from Ottawa is in Whitney. You can get to us directly from Ottawa by bus! Other Things to NoteNO WIFI, NO INTERNET. If wifi is really important to you then you might not like Camp Bongopix. This is a place that encourages people to forget about their phones and rewind to the 80s. If you absolutely need internet then you can walk to a pub 300 metres away that offers free wifi. Please note: In order to maintain a friendly price the room DOES NOT feature any of the "essentials." The following items are NOT included and you must bring your own: towels, bedding, soap/shampoo, and pillow. The room includes toilet paper, however. If you absolutely need "the essentials" then we recommend that you look for our other cabins listed on Airbnb: Hotel Yorba Cabin, Hyrule Cabin, or Ken's Cabin. Although more expensive, these cabins are closer to the water and feature towels and bedding. You can find our other cabins in our Airbnb profile. There are other cabins on our property but you MewTwo all to yourself. You also get your own fire pit/picnic bench. Our cabins are meant to encourage social interaction between travellers and Camp Bongopix isn't always the quietest place on a summer weekend.

The SpaceWe strongly believe in the Airbnb philosophy and we only accept true Airbnb travelers. This cabin was built in the late 1950s. It is part of an old historic resort, "Riverview Cottages." It was owned by a mysterious German lady. This cabin has been impeccably preserved and meticulously decorated. It is meant to be a social outdoors experience. Allow us to rewind your reality to the 1980s cottage lifestyle. Guest AccessGuests have the entire cabin to themselves. You also get a private fire pit and a private picnic bench. We have a small sandy beach and three docks on our property that all of our guests share. The cabin is stocked with retro goodness. We have a VCR, Super Nintendo, and a 1970s hi-fi stereo. Upon arrival your cabin will be stocked with 5 VHS tapes, 3 SNES games, and 5 LPs. You can swing by our main lodge and browse our huge collection if you want to pick out specific titles of vinyl, VHS, and SNES games. You can borrow more for free! But wait, there's more: Fender electric guitar with a cute little amp, plus various percussion instruments. 1980s National Geographic magazines, 1990s DC comics, and books from when I was studying at Queen's University in Kingston. You can paddle into Algonquin Park right from our private dock in about 45 minutes. Canoes and kayaks are available for free for our guests. You can use one of our bikes for free. Or you can drive into Algonquin Park in 5 minutes. We are located about 300 metres from an awesome pub, a wonderful breakfast diner, a charming grocery store, and a BEER store. Running low on supplies? You can just walk to whatever you want in 5 minutes (please note that everything closes at 6 pm). Getting AroundWhitney is a very special town because its population is tiny but it features excellent walkability. Once you're in Whitney you won't need a car. If you want this experience but aren't sure where to start, tell us! We can arrange to lend you a hand into the backcountry if time permits. We're hardcore campers and love a good trip into the bush. Ken's Cabin was built in the late 1950s. It is part of an old historic resort, "Riverview Cottages." It was owned by a mysterious German lady for decades. Interaction with GuestsWe can help you plan your adventures (summer and winter) in Algonquin Provincial Park and the surrounding areas. Kirk is a park ranger in Algonquin Park and can tell you the secrets of travelling the road less travelled. Mariska worked during the summer for the Friends of Algonquin Park, in the Visitor Center and the Logging Museum. Mariska is an avid cross country skier, snowboarder and loves to hike. We can both help you pick the right trails for you, to either ski, snowshoe or hike, when we are available. The NeighborhoodWe are located 10 minutes from the East Gate entrance to Algonquin Provincial Park. The park offers about 15 interpretive trails along highway 60 and a vast backcountry for canoeing and camping and a lot of other fun activities to participate in. The town of Whitney is about five minutes from the apartment. Whitney offers two gas stations, a post office, a grocery store, a beer/liquor store and a couple of restaurants which serve alcohol. Please keep in mind that the grocery store has a limited supply and prices are often a bit higher than elsewhere. We recommend that you do you your shopping in one of the bigger cities you might be passing through. Also keep in mind that store hours and restaurants and gas stations close earlier in the evening in the winter time. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation in this area. Other Things to NoteYou can hook up your laptop to our TV, so bring it along if you want to watch movies off of your laptop. We are both avid cross country skiers and have intimate knowledge of the Leaf Lake Ski Trail network. We can help you pick the trails which are most suitable to your level of ability. Not only can we help you with cross country skiing, but we can also help with other winter activities, such as dog sledding, snowshoeing and skating. There are also two downhill skiing/snowboarding hills within a 90 minute drive. In the summer time we can help you pick trails for you which are suitable to your level of experience and what you would like to do in the park, when we are available. We have two cats, but they are not allowed in the apartment and have never been in there. If you're allergic to cats, you need not worry! Mariska is fluent in English and Dutch. We've been having issues with the directions that Airbnb offers to find our place. Please follow the directions that we offer on our site and in our communication with the guests. In the event of a power outage, which sometimes happens when we have a severe weather network moving through our region, think of thunderstorms, high winds and a sudden downpour or rain; it could happen that we don't have power. When this is the case, keep in mind that we will not have power for our waterpump. Which means that we will be unable to flush the toilets or use any other source of water, such as drinking water and the shower. A power outage is a rare event, but if it does occur, please keep in mind that amenities offered will be limited and it is out of our control. In case of a power outage, we do have a barbecue available for our guests to cook their food on. We will do our best to be as accommodating as we possibly can.

If the weather is mild or warm then we always have a campfire with guitars, stories, marshmallows and drinks. Snowshoes can be rented for $10 per day per pair. In the canoe season canoes rentals are $20 per day. Guest AccessAccess to the Common Room, all of our property including our water front! Interaction with GuestsWe are EXTREMELY OUTGOING. The NeighborhoodWhitney is the closest town to Algonquin Park. We are also within walking distance of a grocery store, beer store, pizzeria, pub, breakfast diner, and gas station. You can also find hiking trails within walking distance of the Backpacker's Bunk. Getting AroundWhitney is a very walkable town - getting to Whitney can be tricky without a car though. Having your own car is most ideal but if you want to travel here without a car please let us know and we can arrange to pick you up from Huntsville for a very reasonable fee. Other Things to NoteWe do not enforce "quiet hours." Campfire sing-a-longs go as long as the energy lasts. We have a "let the good times roll" philosophy when it comes to late night noise. The Bunk is designed to encourage you to meet, mix and mingle with fellow Algonquin Park adventurers. For this reason we do not have a noise curfew. If you are a light sleeper then we recommend to bring ear plugs. We have a live music jam every Saturday night beginning at 8pm. On a busy weekend the music can go as late as 1am-2am... so let the good times roll! During busy weekends the Backpacker's Bunk has a hostel or "university dorm" atmosphere. For this reason it is best suited for younger and energetic travelers who want to mingle and hang out with other travelers. We allow dogs but we do not allow children. If you are a very light sleeper bringing ear plugs would be a good idea.
