Most people travelling to Colombia´s coffee district tend to limit their exploration to the area surrounding Salento and the Valley Cocora, or the amusement parks around Montenegro but don´t get to really experience life in the Eje Cafetero and see the full beauty of the area.
We believe the only way to really experience the area is by spending time on a “Finca” (a country farmhouse). Of course most of the Finca´s in the area have been built for very large families and have therefore made it too expensive for small groups and single travellers or couples to get a taste of this classic Colombian experience. Unless you have local friends or family that will invite you, then many travellers are forced to stay in town and miss out on the real beauty of this area or overpay to stay at Finca Hotels that often overcharge and offer few services to guests.
So we have done the leg work for you and found you the perfect Finca, in the perfect location and we offer different types of accomodations to let everyone in on the experience, with double, triple and family rooms, plus a couple of small dorm rooms and single room rates for those travelling alone or on a budget.
After travelling extensively in Colombia we found it difficult to find accomodation which offered a good relationship between price and value. So we have attempted to fill the void by creating affordable, clean accomodation in a beautiful setting with the luxuries you want in a hotel but the independence and atmosphere you seek in something a bit more laid back. Sure it is great to get a good deal, but the point of travelling is also to relax, enjoy, eat good food, meet new people and get a good night´s sleep.
Filandia: As it says it the town square, Filandia is simply the most beautiful town in the Eje Cafetero. It is a typical colonial town, set amongst rolling green mountains where mixing with locals is as easy as finding a perfect cup of coffee. It is in the centre of Quindio which is the most traditional of the 3 coffee departments and the focus is really on well… coffee, agriculture and simple country life.
The town in just starting to see its first boost in tourism which is mostly visited on weekends by locals from Armenia or Pereira but the popularity among local tourists has already created some of the best cafes and restaurants in the area.
This is the place to wander around town, taking photos of the colourful architecture, share a cup of coffee with local producers and learn to weave baskets from local artisans, or just sit back and let it all sink in. Getting AroundCasa Country is located in Finca Juliana which is one of the most typical coffee houses in the area.
We are approximately 15 mins outside of Quindio´s most beautiful town, Filandia in a beautiful country setting surrounded by birds, butterflies and coffee. Or just under an hour from 45 both airports in Armenia and Pereira.
Because we are downhill from Filandia, the drop in elevation allows you to enjoy the perfect climate to relax and swim in the pool during the day and sit around the campfire and watch the stars at night. You won´t need AC and can sleep comfortably with a light blanket. ( Day time temperaturas fluxuate between 24-30 degrees and drop to 15-17 degrees at night).
In case you haven´t figured it out we are a country location and so you should not expect stores or restaurants close by. However we do offer food and drink services on site and there is plenty to keep you busy (or not) both at the house and close by.
How to Arrive: A shuttle from the airport is about 100,000 pesos (33$) if you want to be picked up in style by a classic Jeep Willys and brought directly to the Finca.
Please note: No matter where you are coming from Casa Country is located at Finca Juliana. It is the original name of the finca.
If you are coming from Armenia or Periera and prefer to come alone simply head to the bus terminal and ask for the bus to Filandia. There are direct buses from both destinations.
From Filandia there are collective Jeeps that run every hour from the main square. Just look for the Willys parked in the square and tell them you want to go to Pavas. The Jeeps leave from the corner in front of the ‘?? and usually say Filandia - Mesa – Quimbaya. You will need to switch Jeeps momentarily in Pavas and continue about 5 kms towards Alcala. The total trip is about 10 kms and should cost about 4000 pesos (a little over 1$).
By car it is easiest to arrive first to Alcala and just follow the indications to Filandia and Bosques Saman. We are about 5 kms from Alcala, you will come to a fork in the road on your way out of town, stay to the right. If you are coming from Salento though it is faster to take the same route as described above though you may want to call when on your way to get directions. The road from Filandia is unpaved for most of the way. From Alcala to Pavas it is paved.
