The SpaceBuilt from local hardwood trees for the flooring, local bamboo for the walls and home grown grass for the roof, the hut is an authentic Carib dwelling. The hut has a double bed (and can also take a single bed upon request) and a large porch which boasts a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean - a little over a mile away - and the two islets of Castle Bruce bay. There is a separate pit toilet and fresh water shower which is piped straight from the stream that acts as a border to the land. There is a small kitchen equipped with a gas stove, utensils and storage space. The electricity in the hut is limited to one light bulb, but perishables can be kept in my fridge and electrical gadgets can be charged in my house. In Dominica it is easy to immerse yourself in nature. Hummingbirds hover everywhere, lizards scurry in the bushes, parrots fly above - and occasionally below you - and flowers and herbs emit wonderful scents. The evening is filled with the sound of the tree frogs and crickets, and in the distance, the waves steadily wash up on the shore. It is beautiful and very peaceful. I'm sure you will love your time spent here and make some very special memories!! Guest AccessGuests have access to all facilities mentioned above; private room with porch, private kitchen and bathroom (pit toilet and cold shower). You have your own key and parking space and are free to come and go as you please. Towels are provided, and a torch (flashlight) also if needed, though I suggest you bring your own too. Due to the remote location and being off-grid, I can only offer wifi via my mobile phone, which is very slow but fine for checking emails etc. Electronic items can be charged at my house and food & drink can be stored in my fridge. Guests have access to the organic gardens and orchard, the bathing pools in the river bordering the property and the yoga platform (coming soon). For the privacy of our other guests, the Eden Heights - Coconut Cabin accommodation (situated lower down on the property, obscured by trees) is off limits. I am working towards a dream of community living and as of September 2016, Eden Heights is also home to a lovely family with 2 boys. I kindly ask that their privacy is respected around their house area. Interaction with GuestsI love to interact and consider Eden Heights as a cross between a bed and breakfast and a homestay. Whether it's cooking you dinner with homegrown organic produce, showing you how to make your own calabash bowls, or taking you on a hike to see something spectacular that nature has created, I enjoy spending time with guests! Complimentary garden tours of the 2.8 acre property are available and you are welcome to take the opportunity to get your hands dirty in the garden or even in the kitchen with a local 'ital' cooking lesson! Breakfast is not included in the price, but can be added at your request at US$5 / $13 EC per person. I serve meals on the porch of my house and am flexible with the time. Guests can have help from us with planning their day trips, if needed, and ask any questions about the island and its culture, or we can just chat! It's up to you. To give you the most authentic Dominican experience, the breakfast offered is strictly local - local fruits and juice, local coffee, bush tea or hot chocolate (cacao tea as it is known here!), cassava bread, plantains or locally-made 'pap' or granola served with fresh coconut or almond milk, sourced from the garden. We also offer our guests to join us for an evening meal, where we serve vegetarian/ital meals (or fish when available) made with home-grown, seasonal produce. Dinner is US$12 / $30 EC per person, and 24 hours notice is preferred. We want you to feel at home and relish in a truly local experience. Help yourself to fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from the organic garden. Plant a tree! Savour fresh coconut water, learn how to process cocoa or coffee, make your own calabash bowls, press freshly cut sugar cane and discover many other traditional practices that we are excited to show you! The NeighborhoodThe sprawling village of Castle Bruce is a 25 minute walk away. It is a quiet, friendly place where people usually greet passersby on the street with a 'good morning' or 'good afternoon' and there is a strong community feel. Here you can purchase basic groceries, enjoy a local lunch or dinner (a couple of restaurants also have free wifi), and of course chill out at the beach or river. There are some roadside stands nearby selling fresh produce and there are a couple of stores that sell essential items and basic food supplies should you wish to cook your own meals, but food shopping is best done in Roseau (roughly an hour away) where there is more on offer. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas; from moderate hiking and visiting waterfalls to bird-watching and visiting the Kalinago Barana Aute model village, and even trekking to secluded beaches! A little further afield are the glorious hot springs, various local health and wellness spas and activities such as canyoning, snorkeling, scuba diving and, of course, chilling out on the calm beaches of the Caribbean Sea. We are within easy reach of Emerald Pool, L'Escalier Tete-Chien, the Kalinago Territory, segments 5 & 6 of the Waitukubuli National Trail, Dernier Falls, Sari Sari waterfall, and a number of beautiful attractions found in the South-east and centre of Dominica. I love the safe and peaceful friendliness of our immediate neighbourhood. We have a few rastafarian neighbours who are the most kind and peace-loving folk living simple, self-sufficient lives. Our neighbourhood is also home to a lot of dogs - most of which are very friendly! If you crave a 'day off' from sight-seeing, the walk down to the village is lovely and the beach is always a great and energising hang out spot. We are also very close to some fantastic, secluded river locations that are wonderful for bathing, relaxing and meditating. Getting AroundWe are well connected to the north (50 minutes from the airport) and eastern parts of the island. Roseau and most of the west coast can be accessed within an hour. Public transport is not too reliable and the accommodation is 1.5km uphill from the main road so I strongly advise you to hire a four-wheel drive car. A rental vehicle will save you time and allow you go explore the entire island as you please much more easily. Rental can be arranged for you or can be booked online and collected at the airport or ferry port on arrival. If you don't drive, I offer a taxi service from and to the airport and ferry terminal and we may also be able to arrange a driver to facilitate your sight-seeing on certain days. Please let me know in advance if you may need this service. Other Things to NoteCell phones work and smart phones can access 2g internet with a local sim card and data package, which costs from $2.50ec per day. Slow wifi is available via my mobile phone, best done during breakfast. More speedy internet can be accessed at a local hotel or in the capital, Roseau. Due to the rugged terrain of the island, we strongly advise you bring comfortable walking shoes to allow you to access locations more easily and safely. It is also wise to bring waterproof casing for cameras, mobile phones and other valuables.

The SpaceFor the down to earth individuals or pair of travellers seeking to experience the wonders & beauty of nature on our 6 acres of tropical rainforest and permaculture homestead. Guava, found within our beautiful open-air hammock hut, is its own private wooden and stone floor enclosure. It is an open air room that features two twin size beds, storage space and spectacular views of the natural surroundings. We have a large property with lush greenery as well as breath taking mountain views with plenty of space for you to explore, select your idea spot to lounge and relax in nature. After following the perimeter-walking path that takes you around to explore the entire property you’ll definitely feel reconnected to nature. There are several lookout points along the way, which you can take in the sweeping mountain views. We have a Fantasy Forest (in the making) with swings and colorful upcycled tire structures along with an aquaculture pond. It’s enjoyed by both the children and adults! Our main house was built traditionally with cob using natural methods, and it also features our cob oven. We have culinary herb gardens, which you may access, along with wild edibles available for foraging. We would be happy to help you identify any plants! Along with your stay, you’ll have access to our hammock hut and facilities which are equipped with electricity for functioning lights and outlets powered by our solar system, a small camp style kitchenette (with double gas burner, utensils, sink with drinking water, calabash wooden storage bowls and small fridge), a library and an outdoor lounging area with comfortable hammocks, chairs and dining tables. The SpaceCoconut Cabin is the perfect location for a romantic getaway or nature-lover's adventure. Set on the outskirts of the Central Rainforest Reserve, you cannot help but relax to the sounds of parrots flying above, the hum of hummingbirds and the gentle crashing of distant ocean waves, as you breathe in the cool sea air, bask in the glorious sunshine and savour the wonderful scents of flowers and herbs. It is beautiful and very peaceful. I'm sure you will love your time spent here and make some very special memories!! Local white cedar lumber sets a calming mood for this simple, cosy studio space with porch overlooking the bay at Castle Bruce beach. Inside contains a bed, shower, composting toilet (toilette chèche) and kitchenette area equipped with gas stove, shelf space and cookware. Perishable food items can be stored in the fridge in my house. The water is sourced from a natural spring further up the mountain. This water is drinkable and feeds the sink and shower (which only has 1 temperature). Electricity is limited to energy efficient lights powered by solar panels on the roof. Electronic items can be charged in my house. Guest AccessGuests have access to the organic gardens and orchard, the bathing pools in the river bordering the property and the yoga platform (coming soon). For the privacy of our other guests, the Eden Heights - Kalinago Hut accommodation and its facilities are off limits. Guests will also have access to the porch of my house, where breakfast is served to those who chose not to self-cater. Getting AroundPublic transport to Roseau and the Kalinago Territory just north of us is pretty good - during the day. It's difficult to move around Dominica after dark without your own transport. Hitch-hiking in rural areas is common, though I wouldn't advise doing this in the evenings. I strongly recommend hiring a 4x4 in order to see the island at your own pace and not have to hustle to get to some of the more remote locations. A 4x4 is also best for accessing Eden Heights as we are over a mile from the main road and the terrain is steep in certain places. It takes 20-25 minutes to walk from the main road. Other Things to NoteIf you would like to see some reviews from previous guests of our other accommodation, please look for the Eden Heights - Kalinago Hut page, which can be found via my host page. Rainy season is officially June-November but we can get occasional heavy showers at any time of the year. Please bring waterproof clothing and waterproof casing for your cameras, phones and other valuables. Just to reiterate - we are a 20-25 minute walk uphill from the main road so it is wise to hire a vehicle if you do not want to make the walk. If I am around, I will be happy to give you rides up and down if car rental isn't possible for you.

Travelers also enjoy taking a walk to our natural river pools to immerse themselves in the invigorating water or bathe under our bamboo shower set in a secluded area of the property amongst tropical rainforest. Guest AccessAt Beyond Vitality, solo travellers, couples and the entire family can enjoy a very unique experience like no other. We are deeply connected to nature, living sustainably and off the grid – no television, city lights, noise pollution or traffic. Our electricity is generated by the sun (solar panels) and our fresh clean water comes from a natural spring and stream on the mountains behind us. Everything we do is with sustainable living, holistic health and happiness in mind. THE GROUNDS Our peaceful property, found on the side of a mountain with cool elevations and spectacular views, is surrounded by tropical rainforest, botanical gardens, flowers and a stream running through it with natural pools perfect for cooling off. We have 6 acres of rich and fertile organic land as made evident by the abundance of organic fruit trees, vegetables and medicinal herb gardens that spread throughout our permaculture homestead. THE CAMP Our main house is traditionally built of cob, a natural resource, also known as mud! We have a campground you can pitch your tent on, an open-air hammock hut offering comfortable sleeping hammocks and some lovely eco cabins. Our delicious homemade meals are created using fresh, organic produce from our own vegetable and herb gardens. Enjoy our unique Rainforest Cuisine. You can do your morning yoga and meditation with an amazing view of the ocean on the horizon or have a cup of “bush tea” while lounging in a hammock. We also have plenty of Excursions and Activities to offer! Our nature camp is a place made with the intention of helping you truly connect to nature and leave with a feeling of health and rejuvenation. We are proud to offer our services in such a special place on Earth! We love sharing this good vibe with people who have an appreciation for nature and holistic living. Interaction with GuestsBeyond Vitality Nature Camp is a place for people who enjoy meeting other travelers, sharing communal outdoor facilities and interacting with the hosts. We consider our place a cross between an eco lodge, hostel and homestay – hence the Nature Camp! We love getting to know travellers and meeting individuals from around the world when we get the chance (between caring for our two young children). Whether it’s cutting a coconut, identifying wild edible plants or having a chat about island life or off grid living, we are grateful that we and our children get to meet so many interesting people from all backgrounds and walks of life. We often have international Work Exchange volunteers helping out at the property that are just as eager to mingle and share their experience. You are more than welcome to learn and get your hands dirty in the garden along with us, discuss holistic health and sustainability or ask about our packages, services and activities. We can help you arrange outings or even bring you on exciting full day excursions ourselves (when available). These can be booked in advance or discussed upon arrival. The NeighborhoodTake a walk down our secluded ½ mile access road where you’ll meet some friendly farmers tending to their land where a variety of tropical fruits and vegetables are growing like cacao, guavas, coffee, dasheen, starfruit, bananas and cinnamon. The quaint little village of Castle Bruce is just a 10-minute drive away. People are friendly and eager to welcome travelers to the community. Here you can enjoy a local lunch or dinner, get some sun, sand and sea at the Castle Bruce beach and stock up on basic staples, should you wish to cook your own meals. Variety is limited, thus we encourage you to stock up on your way from the airport or in the capital of Roseau, where supermarkets and the farmer’s market are found. Please come prepared, as Beyond Vitality is in the rainforest, where only wild edibles are found! ;) Otherwise, we are happy to prepare you breakfast and dinner with advanced request. Beyond Vitality Nature Camp is located beside the Belle Fille River – between the villages of Pond Casse and Castle Bruce, and near the east coast of Dominica. There is plenty to do around us, from hiking and swimming in waterfalls and beaches to visiting the indigenous people of Dominica and foraging your own wild edibles! We are hiking distance from many waterfalls and trails, and before the “Castle Bruce stretch” that leads to Castle Bruce Beach and River. We are a perfect hub for a wide range of experiences and unique activities – relaxing in hot springs in natural wellness spas, turtle and whale watching, canyoning, river tubing, snorkeling and river tubing and of course, dining in local creole and ital restaurants. The 9 hectares domain extends from Castle Bruce river to the tropical rain-forest above the little mountain and are organized in various parcels planted with cocoa, coconut, avocado, mango, cherry, vanilla, nuts & coffee trees, among tannia, yam, dasheen, aromatic herbs and flowers. Each parcel is crossed by the river which creates natural pools at the feet of massive stones providing a perfect relaxing area to spread yoga mats or simply to meditate. Our focus like most of the farmers is clearly on preserving the nature of the farm and the quality of the soil. It is on purpose a wild and organic farm and the work is done by hand, no electrical machines. The volume produced is quite low and does not always allow to generate a regular income, nevertheless the size and surrounding of the farm allowed us to develop other activities that perfectly fit with, notably agro-tourism and fishing activities as we are lucky enough to live by a river and nearby the ocean. Also we developed the farm activities to regroup farming-fishing-camping and opened the wild and nature space to welcome travelers and adventurers who look for something different, off the beaten track and invigorating. It's on a sunny parcel nearby the river side that we started to build few spacious platforms on pillars with large tents for 2 to 4 persons. On the same parcel but a little more inside looking towards the mountain, is our first Caribbean house which we just finished to build. The tent is a 13m2 space, furnished with a double bed, (+additional double matrix to accommodate up to 4 people), and little hand made furniture's. You are also welcome on the terrace of the wood house where you can use the equipped outdoor kitchen, table & chairs, and another terrace with an outdoor bathroom & shower. Everything is hand made, from the river wood left after erika, from selected forest trees, and some plywood to finish. It's "wild life & back to the roots" experience on purpose to offer you something completely different and in connection to the real nature. Here you can freely enjoy a comfortable and large tent in a wild and safe environment, profit of the fruits and the vegetables provided by the 9 hectares plantations all around, have a bath in the natural river pool, catch crayfishes and other sweet-water fishes, prepare a barbecue, enjoy your meal with a stunning river, forest and mountain view, and fall asleep under a million stars sky and the sounds of the jungle. Guest AccessFree up and enjoy everything which is provided by the nature, and have a real extraordinary experience of the Caribbean wild life. Nestled in a private space at the feet of the tropical forest, the tent on pillars are well designed to welcome 2 to 4 persons, furnished with a "in cabin" double bed and a little lounge where it's also possible to install an additional double matrice for 2 pers. Bed sheets are provided as well as the necessary to cook and to eat and a water jerrican with shower jet, plus a cleaning kit for you to leave the tent clean before your check out. You can use the outdoor kitchen equipped with a few basics and cook on the fireplace. Our very affordable price allow you to stay freely and as much as you wish in all Marclarkin land including the river, and to enjoy everything which is provided by the nature like fruits & vegetables, bush herbs, river fishes as well as natural river pools and "SPA", sport & fishing activities and so much more... We are in a central location, which means that you won’t spend your entire vacation “driving to the other side of the island”. We are a perfect hub for a wide range of experiences and unique activities – relaxing in hot springs in natural wellness spas, turtle and whale watching, canyoning, river tubing, snorkeling and river tubing and of course, dining in local creole and ital restaurants. Both the airport and ferry are under an hour drive, as well as the capital of Roseau. IN THE ENVIRONS If you’re in need of adventure, there is a large range of attractions to choose from near The Nature Camp. Have a swim at the beautiful Castle Bruce Beach and/or river, which is just a short trek away. Take a hike and have a relaxing dip in the crystal clear Emerald Pool. Mermaid Pool, our favourite family swim hole, is also near The Nature Camp. You can visit the Kalinago Territory (indigenous people of Dominica) and L’Escalier Tête Chien on the East coast, or soak and relax in one of the sulphur hot springs at Morne Trois Pitons National Park (hike there via Segment 5 and 4). Spanny’s Waterfall, Rainforest Mushrooms Organic Farm, Sultan Falls and Jacko Falls are all a short drive away in the interior of the island. There are also a number of beautiful attractions found on the South East coast such as Dernier Falls, Sari Sari Waterfall, Glasse Pool, Wavine Cirque and Victoria Falls. It's a 30m2 wood open-house, furnished with a double bed, (+additional double matrix to accommodate up to 4 people), little hand made furniture's, a hammock, a terrace with an outdoor kitchen, table & chairs, and another terrace with an outdoor bathroom & shower. Everything is hand made, from the river wood left after erika, from selected forest trees, and some plywood to finish. Here you can freely enjoy a comfortable little wood house in a wild and safe environment, profit of the fruits and the vegetables provided by the 9 hectares plantations all around, have a bath in the natural river pool, catch crayfishes and other sweet-water fishes, prepare a barbecue, enjoy your meal with a stunning river, forest and mountain view, and fall asleep under a million stars sky and the sounds of the jungle. Guest AccessFree up! Enjoy everything which is provided by the nature, and have a real extraordinary experience of the Caribbean wild life. Our very affordable price allow you to stay freely and as much as you wish in all Marclarkin land including the river, and to enjoy everything which is provided by the nature like fruits & vegetables, bush herbs, river fishes, as well as natural river pools and "Jacuzzi", outdoor sport and fishing activities and so much more... It also includes the house on pillars*, with basics to cook and to clean, an outdoor kitchen & fireplace, an outdoor shower & a dry toilet, as well as our assistance for everything you might need during your stay. It does not include meals and drinks but you can freely pick-up fruits & vegetables to cook, or we can cook delicious Caribbean meals for 30EC, drinks included. On demand, we have electricity provided by a generator for lighting, phone & computer charge; It is 15EC for a gallon of gaz (per day); We also provide a WiFi connection from our mobile in case you need (on demand, 5EC per hour). Interaction with GuestsWe see the domain as a sustainable and autonomous little heaven and we choose to adapt ourselves to this environment. That's why we can easily live without electricity and the so-called "comfort". Our comfort in Marclarkin is the liberty to create, to build and to live how we want, to eat what we grow, and to enjoy and profit freely from the river and the forest that we cherish and protect. We look forward to welcome you in the same spirit and to make you discover our little processing farm that we keep on developing. Depending on the season, you might also participate in the fishing and farming activities if you wish. Whether you want to enjoy the Caribbean Wild Life experience on your own, with a group or with us, we are at your disposal to organize an amazing and extraordinary adventure in Dominica.
