The SpacePinn Cottage is a lovely 4bdr country house down a quiet lane in a rural setting near the Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire border. Enjoy green views, peace and quiet and creature comforts whilst only 30 minutes away from the centres of Oxford, Bicester or Aylesbury, and from the M40. Set in large private gardens the house has the benefit of underfloor heating throughout, a 4-oven Aga cooker and a wood-burning stove. Downstairs the large kitchen is the focus of the house, with a light and bright dining area built in conservatory style and leading through french doors to outdoor terraces on both sides. Cooking is done on the Aga range, which also has a double ring electric hob on one side. The kitchen is fitted with a large Amari US ice- and water-dispensing fridge, and Miele dishwasher. The utility room houses a washing machine and butler's sink, with a shelved pantry and wine store off it. There is also a spacious separate dining room perfect for more formal gatherings. The dining room and living room sit cosily side by side, in the older 'cottage' part of the house, with a dual aspect wood-burning stove in the fireplace between. Logs are stored at the side of the house. Off the entrance hall is a small study which can provide a quiet bolt-hole to compose e-mails if work calls. Upstairs are four double bedrooms, 2 of which have ensuite shower rooms, while the other 2 share a family bathroom with bath and shower. The master bedroom has a superking size bed, and a walk-through wardrobe area leading to the ensuite with double-basin and walk-in shower; bedroom two has a king size bed and smaller ensuite shower room; bedroom 3 has two single beds, one of which stows under the other when not required; bedroom 4 has a double bed and shares the main bathroom with bedroom 3. There is also a downstairs cloakroom lavatory. On the main terrace there is garden dining furniture, and a barbecue on the smaller terrace. At the top of the garden is a summerhouse and deck with all-weather rattan seating area where you can enjoy far-reaching views over the countryside and many a red sunset. The summerhouse has a power supply, so there is a fridge for drinks, and lights for those late summer evenings. The garden is largely south-facing and well-established sloping up from the house with several sets of steps leading to the top, (hence unsuitable for toddlers or anyone with limited mobility). There is ample parking in front of the house for 4 cars. The old thatched villages of Long Crendon and Haddenham are only a mile and three miles away respectively; two miles takes you to the market town of Thame with its variety of shops (incl Waitrose) and weekly market. The area is blessed with a huge choice of excellent pubs and restaurants, from our local favourite just around the corner to Michelin-starred establishments a short drive away. Our nearest station, ten minutes away, is Haddenham & Thame Parkway on the Chiltern Line out of London Marylebone. Guest AccessThere is sometimes a two-night minimum stay during January and February allowing for short winter weekend breaks, otherwise 3-night minimum for most of the year, rising to 4-night minimum at peak periods. Guests will have access to all parts of the house & garden APART FROM one room, which is locked off for owners' use only, and both the garden shed and old garage. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be present during your stay, however we will have a manager overseeing the property who will let in guests and hand over keys etc. The NeighborhoodOurs is a rural region offering all the pleasures of country living yet within easy striking distances of towns and cities and their amenities. It is walking country, with many footpaths and bridleways, with places of historical interest waiting to be discovered, thriving market towns to visit and pretty thatched villages to wander through. The Chilterns (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) can be found just to the east of the region, and the ancient national trail of The Ridgeway further to the south. In the Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire borders we have small local communities which enjoy the best of both worlds - a rural life in beautiful countryside as well as access to historical Oxford, 30 minutes away, and of course our capital city London (50 minutes away by train on the Chiltern Line into London Marylebone). We are also easily accessible from the M40 (ten minutes away) all of which makes this area a perfect mid-way point for any multi-stop tour of the country. There are many historic properties to visit in the area (including Waddesdon Manor and Blenheim Palace to name only two) and a myriad different events to chose from throughout the year. Cinemas and theatres are 30 minutes away in Aylesbury or Oxford, and Oxford also has its many museums and colleges. Local communities are busy organising film clubs, sports clubs, summer fetes and concerts, so the tranquillity of the area belies a very active society. This is Midsomer Murders country so you may well come across guided tours in the vicinity. Getting AroundA car is pretty much essential in these parts, however there is a good train service out of London (see above) and a taxi company operates from our local station at Haddenham & Thame Parkway. Other Things to NoteOff-season, for most of January and February, we sometimes agree to a 2-night minimum stay. We have a 3-night low season minimum stay during most of the year, with a 4-night high season minimum stay at peak periods.

The SpaceThe bedroom available is the spare bedroom. It's an old cottage and therefore rooms are reasonably small and the stairs quite tight and typical for this type of cottage which I believe is around 150 - 200 years old and so not really suitable for anyone who may struggle with this. The bedrooms are quite close together but not immediately next to each other, the bathroom lies in between and is shared with myself if I am there. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use the kitchen, living room and garden during their stay. Interaction with GuestsI work from home during the day mainly, however, the weeks that I am offering will be those where I may be staying in London for the odd night and so for these times the whole cottage is available for guests to relax in as they please. The only requirement and the reason I am offering the room at such a low price, is that when I am not staying the night there myself any guest will agree to feed my very friendly and cute Ginger Tom cat called Jack. The NeighborhoodAshendon is a picturesque village situated on top of a hill in rural Buckinghamshire. There is a very nice pub called 'The Hundred' which serves high quality food. The nearest town is Thame, a small market town about 15 mins drive. Waddesdon Manor, run by the National trust and ancestrol home of the Rothschild family is situated on the next hill and under 10 mins drive away. Bicester Village Outlet is 20 mins drive and Oxford just under 30 mins. Getting AroundThere is no public transport to speak of and no shop. Guests will definitely need a car which can be parked in 'The Close' which is just a few meters down from the cottage. Other Things to NoteBreakfast is help yourself, guests can use whatever is in the fridge or in the kitchen. The minimum that will always be available are eggs, bananas, bread, milk tea and coffee I do not have a TV but there is wifi, although it is very slow in the village generally and so only really available for basic stuff, it would not take more than a couple of devices streaming movies for example.

It is well known locally that J.R.R.Tolkien visited Brill regularly in his early years at Oxford and is reputed to have lived in the hamlet for a short time, using Brill as the basis for the fictional village of Bree along with other features of Brill in his famous Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is in this magical setting that you will find Brill Cottage, nestling on the edge of Brill Hill, a beautiful holiday cottage which is just a few hundred yards away from the renowned Brill Windmill, the famous landmark set high overlooking Buckinghamshire and its neighbouring Shires and steeped in English History. Brill Cottage is a comfortable and luxurious holiday retreat, with breath taking panoramic views from every room. Attached but entirely separate from the main house, Brill Cottage is decorated to a high standard with great attention to detail. Soft furnishings in natural colours throughout the open-plan sitting room/ dining area effortlessly combine quality and comfort, and the modern and stylish fully fitted kitchen has everything you need - just inviting you to cook! On the next floor the spacious bedroom holds a King Size double bed and ample wardrobe space and has the advantage of a bright and airy en-suite bathroom complete with bath and shower - attention to detail is paramount in Brill Cottage. A suntrap ‘all-weather’ terrace with table and chairs built on the side of the house overlooks the peaceful landscape with Red Kites soaring and gliding above as you enjoy the tranquillity and stunning sunsets. Adjacent to Brill Windmill is the popular village pub ’The Pheasant ‘ which offers delicious home cooked food and is a warm and cosy retreat to drop into on a frosty morning after a walk around the peaks and hummocks that surround the Windmill. It’s easy to see, when sitting on the terrace at the Pheasant, just what made Tolkien dream up such a magical and mysterious vision. The view over The Common, past one of the oldest post windmills in the country, is truly breathtaking.
