The SpaceWEEKDAY SALE: January through Easter 2017.
Message us to request to stay for four nights, arriving Sunday or Monday and departing Thursday or Friday, and we'll offer you a rate of £100 (inclusive of the cleaning fee but exclusive of airbnb's fees) for single occupation for the four nights. It's a great deal if you are working away from home for the week. Add the Optimist's breakfast, when booking, for each day for just £8. (All prices stated are before airbnb fees.)
For all other bookings, if you would like to include our Optimist's breakfast - coffee/tea, with toasted bread, butter and marmalade/jams/Marmite - book it in advance for just £2.50 (rather than £3.00) per person per breakfast.
Your room is a spacious and light bedroom, with a very comfortable double bed and high quality Egyptian cotton bed linens and towels.
It has a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a bedside table; we aim to make the space a home from home. We'll happily place a selection of teas in your room, and flasks of cold milk and hot water; tea, coffee and chilled water are always available in the kitchen. If we've been baking, you'll also have homemade biscuits! Homely, relaxing and calm; perfect whether you are staying overnight or for a few days.
The room has a television with a Sky connection, providing access to Freeview and 35 premium television channels and a host of radio stations.
The room will easily accommodate two people.
If you are staying for more than four nights (or multiples of four nights), we will change your towels after the fourth night. There is no charge for this on the first occasion but there is a charge of £3 (single)/£5 (double) for subsequent changes. If you are staying for more than seven nights (or multiples of seven nights), we will provide you with fresh bedlinen (but not clean the room) on the eighth day. There is a charge of £5 for this.
Downstairs, the space is contemporary and stylish, with the large living kitchen overlooking the house's glorious tree-lined garden. In the kitchen you'll find a water and ice dispenser, and the facilities to make tea and coffee at any time. The room also has a large dining table, sofa and 55" TV which is connected to Sky.
The lovely garden, which adjoins the lane up to the village church, is perfect to relax in after or before a long day. We'll happily serve breakfast, lunch or dinner in the garden, if the weather permits; or just wander outside with a book and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The sitting room provides a quiet and dog free space to relax in. We have plenty of books, CDs and DVDs, most of which can be found on the extensive book shelves of the sitting room. Please feel free to browse and read, listen to or watch them during your stay. There is a TV in the sitting room, which is connected to Freeview, so has all the BBC and ITV channels. If you wish dinner can be served in the sitting room.
We have two dogs who are both very friendly and great fun. One is a Cardigan Corgi (an indigenous and increasingly rare, only 94 were born in 2013, Welsh breed) and the other a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. They do not have free run of the house.
We are very happy to have other dogs (but no other animals) come to stay but please note that:
(1) We can only host either two medium-sized dogs or one large dog at any time.
(2) The dog(s) cannot sleep in your room and must bed down with our dogs (otherwise we'd be breaking the rules that we set our dogs).
(3) You must bring with you their bed, food bowl and food.
(4) There is a charge of £5 per night and a cleaning fee of a minimum of £25 if there is any sort of accident!
(5) We would prefer it if you arrived early enough for us to be able to take the dogs out for a walk together, so that they can get to know one another a little before moving into our dogs' territory.
(6) We reserve the right to ask you to leave if your dog is aggressive (rather than playful).
Please note that we have a second room listed on airbnb, our larger double with an en suite bathroom, so you may be staying with us when other people are in the house.
With this room we are also able to accommodate another couple of people on the exceptionally comfortable king size sofa bed, in our sitting room. We will only take bookings for the sofa bed with bookings for this room, as you will share access to the bathroom. Guest AccessYou have sole access to your double bedroom and bathroom, unless members of your party are staying on the sofa bed in the sitting room, when the bathroom is shared. Please see the note below for further information about this option, if more than two of you want to stay.
Refreshments - an extensive range of teas, coffee and chilled water - are available in the kitchen throughout the day. If you are lucky, we may also be offering a freshly baked cake or biscuits alongside an afternoon tea.
Meals - are served in the living kitchen, sitting room or, if the weather is good, can be served in the garden. Most evenings you can enjoy the peace and quiet of our relaxing sitting room, with access to our eclectic collection of books and music. The room also has its own television.
Sitting room - We can accommodate a further two people to stay on the exceptionally comfortable sofa bed in the sitting room. If there are more than two of you, and you want to book this double room and the sofa bed, please let us know. Please note that we will only make this facility available when our other double room is occupied, and only to people who are prepared to share the house bathroom, i.e. it will not be let out separately.
Out of bounds - The study area of the sitting room, the first floor studio and our bedroom are not open to guests. The sitting room will be unavailable when the study is being used for Andrew's work, this is most weekday mornings and afternoons and occasional evenings.
Please note that we have a second room listed on airbnb, our larger double with an en suite bathroom, so you may be staying with us when other people are in the house. Interaction with GuestsWe work from home, so we're around in the house most of the time, normally in our respective studio and office spaces. So we're normally on hand to answer questions.
We're happy to serve one of our signature breakfasts or a delicious home cooked seasonal dinner, just ask for the options and let us know what you want the day before!
Otherwise, we won't seek to impose ourselves on you!
Please note that we have a second room listed on airbnb, our larger double with an en suite bathroom, so you may be staying with us when other people are in the house. The NeighborhoodThe village is quiet and quintessentially English, with a charming parish church and some wonderful local walks. Within an hour's travel time, we have the joys of London, Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Northampton. We are equidistant from the M1 and A1. Getting AroundBedford station is on the mainline from St Pancras International out of London. The fast train takes just 38 minutes. The train station is just twelve minutes away by car or taxi.
Being an English village, in a rural location, there isn't a constant stream of buses in and out of Bedford. We have five into town during the day and six returning to the village, the last being at 16:00. Otherwise, it is a six mile taxi journey from the station, which costs between £10-£15. We recommend Anglia Taxis in Bedford.
The nearest airport is London Luton, which is 40 minutes away by car. London Luton and London Gatwick are both readily accessible by train from Bedford station.
It is possible to park a car at the property and we have a charging point for an electric car. (Please note that using the charging point is an additional cost.) Other Things to NoteWe ask you to remember that we're not running a bed and breakfast! This is a home stay offer, so it is our home and we're doing this because we like to meet people from a diversity of backgrounds. We've travelled widely, so we're very at ease with other cultures.
Whilst we are happy to cook for you and to do some laundry for you, we don't let others use the kitchen or laundry room. It's primarily a fire/health and safety issue that we are keen to avoid. Even though this is "home stay", it is still covered by various bits of government legislation.
If you don't want us to cook for you, there's a very good local pub, within easy walking distance, that does food Wednesday through Sunday, and there are a number of places that deliver.
