The SpaceJoin us in our recently refurbished country cottage. The whole house has been featured in 25 Beautiful Homes, House Beautiful and Dorset magazines. We're also delighted that our previous guests feedback has meant that we are now, officially, Airbnb 'Superhosts'! The cottage is in the small village of Uploders, a few minutes drive from Bridport and 10 minutes from the Jurassic Coast at Burton Bradstock. The room is away from the main living area of the house so you'll feel very private. It's a large room with an en-suite bathroom, sitting area, TV, dressing table etc - you'll certainly be able to swing a cat!! The local pub is but a 5 minute walk and does great food as well as standard pub drinks! Bridport is a great place for the Arts, live music, markets and antiques (in the Vintage Quarter). And of course, there's the whole of the Jurassic Coast to explore. Although the pub is only a short walk away, there are no shops within walking distance. You'll need the car! Breakfast is included in the price, comprising coffee/tea/ juice; cereals; home-made bread/toast and preserves; cold meats, cheese, locally sourced yoghurt etc. If you want a 'full AGA English', this can usually be arranged for an additional cost of £5.00 per guest, payable during your stay; but do let us know if you want this option, prior to your arrival! This is our private home and we'd love you to share it for a few days. If you know where you want to go, we'll leave you be, but if you want some help to 'get under the skin' of this great part of the world, we'll happily oblige! Guest AccessYour suite is totally self contained on the ground floor of the house. We'll sort your breakfast in the large dining area off the kitchen - so that's just about it for the house! We have a large terraced garden which we're happy for you to wander around. At the end of the sunny day there's a table for two by the Koi pond - we're more than happy for you sit there enjoying the rays. If you're really lucky, and you enjoy al fresco dining, we'll happily lay up breakfast for you on the patio right behind the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsWe'll certainly be around to say hi on arrival. Let us know what we can do to enrich your stay and we'll do our best to help - after that, it's pretty much up to you - it's your holiday. The NeighborhoodPeace and tranquility with great access to the coast and the buzzy town of Bridort, sometimes interrupted by the odd passing tractor!! Getting AroundYes there is public transport, but too infrequent to spend all day waiting Other Things to NoteFor both our security and safety (and yours!) we require all our guests to have airbnb Verified ID.

The SpaceThe studio, a small stone barn (separate from, but alongside, our house) is surrounded by National Trust land and just 100 yards from the cliff and coast path. It is just one room, with separate en-suite shower room and loo, and measures about 18x15 feet. There's a comfortable double bed, sofa, table and chairs and galley kitchen with hob, oven and fridge. You can just about see the sea from the window, but step outside and you're free to walk footpaths in all directions through orchid-rich meadows, copses, along tiny streams and find a way down to the beach (about a half-hour walk to the beach). Access is on foot from the coast path or a mile or so down a long, rough track, quite overgrown from late spring onwards (unsuitable for cars that don't like to get muddy or be scratched by brambles, hawthorn, honeysuckle and toadflax). There's parking available immediately outside the shed, but this isn't a good place to come and go by car from regularly - better to use it as a base for walking, writing, painting or retreat. (We can also collect you from the bus in Charmouth or train in Axminster). The barn has wi-fi and a good supply of maps and books. We live across the yard and can help with most other things. If you're arriving on foot we can have food and basics ready for you. Guest AccessYou're welcome to use the main part of the garden and, if you're staying for a while, to use our washing machine. Interaction with GuestsWe always try to be here to welcome you but, once you're installed, we'll leave you alone. Apart from hearing our car come and go occasionally, you should find the studio very quiet. The NeighborhoodThe house is set in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery in the southwest. Apart from our house across the yard, you can't see another house in any direction. Kestrels sometimes nest nearby, buzzards hang in the sky, owls may wake you at night, ravens drift past, deer and badgers are often seen and almost everyone says they've seen a whale, or at least a whale-shaped dark patch, out to sea. At night, with the house behind you, you get to see the Milky Way against a (for England) very black backdrop. At full moon, the silvery path across the sea in front of you is so inviting. Getting AroundThe X53 and No 31 buses go through Charmouth and there's a railway station about 6 miles away at Axminster, which is on the London-Exeter line. Please read the bit above about cars carefully. The track down to the house is rough and overgrown - though it's easily passable for any car, the last 10 minutes are slow and prickly. Other Things to NoteWe live simply, have an organic vegetable garden and try to tread lightly on the planet. We really welcome people with similar values, anyone escaping the city for a while, walkers of course, writers, artists or anyone looking for a space for inspiration or creativity.

Bridport is an attractive, vibrant and historic market town, lying in the beautiful rolling countryside of West Dorset. It is an excellent centre for exploring the coast and surrounding countryside. The restaurants, twice weekly market, churches, museum and other amenities of the town are a short walk from the cottage. Bridport is gaining a reputation as quite a gastronomic centre with some excellent restaurants and plenty of fresh food available. There are many artists and craftsmen living and working in the area. The fishing port of West Bay ( ITV's setting for Broadchurch ) is 1.5 miles away. Lyme regis and Weymouth and other sandy beaches are close by. The Swannery at Abbotsbury, various stately homes, ancient hill top forts, gardens and other places of interest are within easy reach. The recently refurbished cottage is attractive, very clean and well appointed, being sunny in the summer and warm in winter. Enjoy relaxing and eating your meals out in the sunny courtyard. Convenient and safe parking is available. Short breaks are offered outside the holiday seasons. Bridport is linked by a coastal bus route from Exeter in the West to Poole in the East. The owners live next door, and want to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The area both inland and along the coast is outstandingly beautiful, and is a World Heritage Site. The Jurassic Coast is renowned for fossil hunting, and fossil walks are organized from near by Lyme Regis and Charmouth. There are dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches along the coast. At near by Abbotsbury there is a natural swannery and a children's farm in a historic tythe barn. Picturesque Weymouth has all the fun of a sea side town with a safe sandy beach with donkey rides, a Sea Life Centre and many other visitor attractions. There is plenty to explore in Lyme Regis with its famous Cob harbour, sandy beach, little alleyways and fossil hunting heritage. There are plenty of National Trust houses and sites in the area. We supply literature about the many places of interest to visit in the holiday cottage, along with maps and inland and coastal walks. Inland there are walks, hill top forts, country pubs and the county town of Dorchester is 14 miles away.
