The NeighborhoodNorth Norfolk is a beautiful area to explore & Oak House is ideally situated to access all the different areas. We are only 10 miles from Norwich, 15 miles from the coast, 12 miles from Holt & Wroxham is only 1/2 an hour away for easy access to the Broads. Sandringham is only about an hour away.
The coast has many sandy beaches from Sea Palling to beyond Holkham. It is also a fantastic area for bird watching with reserves at Cley and Titchwell. The area is great for cyclists with Marriot's Way and National Cycle Route One close by. The Norfolk Broads are within easy reach for nature reserves and boating activities. Norwich is about ten miles away and the attractive market towns of Holt, Reepham and Aylsham are nearby.
Cawston is a typical Norfolk village. What once was a thriving village has lost its shops & pubs to the vagaries of modern life. Where there was once two butchers, three pubs, a hairdresser, a greengrocer & a hardware store there is now just one pub (next door) & a convenience store. However we are within easy reach of larger villages with a good selection of shops & the area has some terrific pubs & restaurants.
As well as The Bell next door we are well served with good local pubs with restaurants (all within a 15min drive) The King's Arms at Reepham, The Pigs at Edgefield, The Black Boys at Aylsham, The Buck at Blickling & The Walpole Arms at Itteringham. A little further afield The Gunton Arms at Thorpe Market all highly recommended.
Cawston is a country village & transport links aren't good so a car is essential although bicycle is a great way to explore North Norfolk. Getting AroundCawston is fairly remote & transport links are not good so a car is essential. However a great way to explore North Norfolk is by bicycle. Other Things to NoteWe have a nominal arrival time of 16:00 onwards & departure time of 11:30 however we are very flexible. We like to know an approximate ETA of your arrival so that we can make the appropriate arrangements. Depending on other guest arriving, leaving is usually not at all pressured.
On Bank Holiday weekends there is a minimum of two nights stay.
Parking is on street directly outside the house, it's a small village & perfectly safe.
