The SpaceChurch Cottage is a delightful and unique Grade II listed, 15th Century house in the heart of historic Stratton, beside St Andrews Church and within walking distance of the local shop, pubs and art gallery. Bude itself is less than 1.5 miles away, with a wide selection of shops, popular surfing beaches, a sea pool, boating canal, golf course, cafes and restaurants. It has recently been sympathetically restored and is a great get-away for a couple, a group of friends or a family wanting to escape for a long weekend / week and enjoy the countryside and seaside, in delightful surroundings. You can just relax and chill by the fire, hide away in the secret garden listening to the Church bells sound the hour, or test your dart skills in the games room. The cottage is everything a country cottage should be, with lovely beamed ceilings downstairs (high enough to happily handle the taller 6ft+ members of the family!), with two lovely bedrooms rooms and new bathroom upstairs. Then accessed through the garden, up a small flight of stairs is a bedroom with two single beds and en suite bathroom all newly done, giving you a selection of pleasant and unique rooms to choose from. There is lots of charm and history both inside as well as in the immediate area outside, and the cottage is mentioned in the battlefield walk and the town trail. After a long day of reading and relaxing you can just walk 30 seconds down the hill and meet the Giant in the Tree Inn over a pint! The nearest beach is just 5 minutes drive away, with lots of rock pools for children to play in, as well as sand that is ideal for sandcastles! The area has some of the best surfing in the country with 33 surfing breaks within 20 mins drive (North and South), from easy sand beaches to world class reefs. More surfing spots compared to anywhere else in the country, and able to handle all wind directions that Neptune can throw at you. There is also lots of good river fly fishing just a short drive away, several coarse fishing lakes nearby, riding, loads of coastal climbing routes within easy reach, great walking along the SW Coast path, as well as great cycling routes. On top of all this there is also indoor bowling and an indoor swimming pool just 2 minutes away. Then a quick hop, skip and jump away in Bude you have a fun sea pool on the beach, tennis, bowls, crazy golf and loads of other activities. ----------------------------------------------------- The Cottage comfortably caters to 6 people (also available to rent for x4 people), but it should be noted that the bed in the smaller of the two upstairs bedrooms is a small double, but my wife and I happily sleep in it - but If you have a larger frame it might not be comfortable for two people. ------------------------------------------------------- Health and safety laws being what they are and young children being so inquisitive, we are not keen to have children under 10 years old staying at the cottage. For their own safety, and so no damage is done to cottage - we hope you understand. --------------------------------------------------- Being a listed property, recently restored, we ask that you submit a security deposit, to ensure that you enjoy and love the cottage as much as we do. This is normal practice for most properties you stay in around Europe and the World - thanks for your understanding. Guest AccessThe Cottage, Garden, the Garage, Games Room, and all areas. The Cottage is fully equipped, and has all the things you would need for a great break / holiday. ---------------------------------------------- There are only two areas which you don't have access to....... - a locked cupboard in the garage under the stairs (which has some tools) - 1 out of 5 cupboards in the main bedroom (which just has cleaner stuff in). Interaction with GuestsWe won't be around during your stay, but have people who can leave / pick-up keys / clean when you leave. We are available by e-mail / phone to help in anyway we can. The NeighborhoodYou will find yourself in the heart of the village, please support the village shop, which is just down the road. Make sure you go and look at the inside of St Andrews Church to see the lovely inside, but also the original stocks of the village and the shot and shell from the Battle of Stamford Hill on the hill opposite. You must also go and visit the full sized Giant in the Tree Inn and have a pint with him! Launcells Church, a 12th century church, just one mile from the cottage was described by John Betjeman as one of the most unspoilt churches in Cornwall. The village of Clovelly is a great escape for any day, rain or shine. Walking round the museum and churches is really interesting. Not to mention the great pub at the bottom around the magical harbour. Getting AroundThere are buses in to Bude, just at the bottom of the hill, 1 minute walk away. ---------------------------------------- If you are going out at night and don't want to drive a cab into town only costs less than £5 and about £7 on the way home after midnight - Bude & Stratton Ta(phone number hidden) ---------------------------------------- You can park directly outside loading the car with the boot open, and at your own risk over night), but in the morning from 8am do not park on the double yellow lines. There is loads of parking all along beside the Church, and we have never had any issues parking. If there is a big event on there is a parking area at the bottom of the hill, we have never had to use it - but it is only 100metres away. --------------------------------------------- If you have a bicycle , the garage is a great place to store it. Bicycles are a great way of getting around, and there are quite a few local cyclists who whiz around. The NeighborhoodCancleave is situated in a stunning clifftop location with a large garden overlooking Bude Bay, as far as Lundy Island on a clear day. Just outside the garden gate lies the South West Coast Path and from here a path winds down the sloping cliffs to the pebble beach below. Take the coast path to the south west of the property and you will shortly arrive in a dense stunted oak forest; a forest of fully mature yet miniature oaks. Interaction with GuestsProperty is managed by Sandpiper property management - they will fix any small problem you might have. Other than that just relax. Owners will not be present during your stay. The NeighborhoodExtremely beautiful National Trust location in a wooded valley with view of the sea. Easy to get changed, wander down to the beach, come back and shower. Fantastic walks to Bude and Boscastle via the coastal path. Walk there and catch the bus back. Getting AroundIt is best to have a car. There is a bus that travels between Wadebridge and Bude that stops at Crackington Haven. Walk to Boscastle and catch the bus back. Other Things to NoteChough Cottage is situated on a quiet private road called Ludon. The garden has ample parking for four cars. The garden adjacent to the house is set to lawn and is a real sun trap. We also own the grassy area to the left of the house and the cliff behind (approx 1/3rd acre) . This has a lot of wild flowers and three benches – the top bench is up some steps – which all have great views of the valley and the sea. Great for sunsets. The area around the house is set with local Cornish slate and this is also on the floor in the porch area accessed through the front door. The hallway has wood flooring and has a pew for sitting, the wifi router, and a tidal clock. The kitchen is quite large and consists of the cooking/washing area, a dining area and a two seater lounging seagrass settee with ipod doc. We have just had a new kitchen with stone worktops, ceramic cooker, fitted appliances – dishwasher, microwave etc. There are two fridges. There is a large kitchen table with a bench one side and chairs around – room for about 8 people. Fake (I’m told high quality fake) wooden floor – good for cleaning. Downstairs toiet is accessed through a separate utility room. The living area is a large room with two three seater settees and two armchairs. We have a new falt-screen Samsung TV connected to a freeview satellite box – but feel free to bring your own sky box. We have been collecting furniture made from driftwood and there is a clock, drawers and cupboard – very Alice in Wonderland-like. The wood burning stove is easy to use – best to get firelighters – kindling and logs are provided. The conservatory comes off the living area. It has an oldish Life Fitness cross trainer – still works fine. Suggest you ppen the door when using it or you will roast. There are three bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom is large. It has a UK king-size bed. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. There is a chaise longue – good for lazing and reading. There is also a telescope for looking at stars – I’ve never really managed to work it but feel free to use it. The second bedroom is also big – it has twin beds. There are drawers and wardrobe space and a diftwood mirror. The ensuite has toilet, basin and shower. The small bedroom has a deb that can either be a single, two singles or a double. It has a mattress underneath that can be pulled out. I suggest that this is ok for kids and adults that know each other very well. There are two foldaway beds that can be placed in either of the two large bedrooms. The main family bathroom has bath, toilet, basin, shower and airing cupboard. The garage has an electric remote controlled door. It has a full size professional table tennis table and dart-board. There are some surfboards – one big and two small – I’ve never managed it but feel free to try at your own risk. There are also some old body-boards which you are free to use. You will find our new – very expensive – gas barbecue either in the garage or on the patio – feel free to move it – probably needs two people. Its stainless stell so hopefully will last longer than the old one. Patio area has teak table and chairs, poshish umbrella etc. All linen and towels are supplied by Sandpiper – our property manager. Cleaning is included in the price so don’t spend hours cleaning before you leave.

The SpaceSuperb quality south facing two bedroom lodge. The kitchen has an electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and all the utensils you may need. There is a barbecue on the deck, together with table, chairs and sun loungers. Guest AccessThis is more than a holiday lodge it is our second home and we welcome you as our guests. You are therefore welcome to make use of all that is there - the only personal items are in the ottoman in the double room , the wicker baskets in the twin room and the box marked 'food' in the kitchen. We just ask that you leave enough of everything for others that follow you, but please help yourself to tea, coffee, sugar, condiments, cleaning materials, sauces, jams, cleaning materials, kitchen roll, toilet rolls, baking foil, etc.etc. There are wet suits in the storage box outside as well as a couple of basic body boards and beach chairs and equipment. In the lodge there are many games, jigsaws, toys, DVD's and a WiFit that you are welcome to use - we just ask that breakages are replaced (this is sometimes necessary if people are a bit enthusiastic with the body boards - but they are only cheap ones!). From the end of July we will also have a travel cot available for your use. Our lease allows us to park one vehicle in the area near the Lodge - any further vehicles should be parked nearer the laundry. As we are so far away we cannot supply linen, but there are duvets and pillows in the bedrooms. Please contact us if you are coming from overseas as we may be able to make special arrangements for an additional charge. Interaction with GuestsAs we live in Essex all communication will be via telephone or e-mail, but the site owners are on site for emergencies. The NeighborhoodBadger can be whatever you want it to be - a time to relax in lovely surroundings - a base to explore the area or surf. The site is family friendly but the children's play area is far enough away so as not to disturb! There are many amazing beaches - incredible walks - and many places to visit. For the active the area is great for surfing and there is a 9 hole golf course and mountain boarding centre just up the hill. We have folders with local information in the lodge and books and maps to help you get around. Getting AroundAlthough it is possible to reach the Lodge by public transport this is not really practical and I would think that you would need your own transport. Morrisons and Lidl's supermarkets are not far away - but some guests pre order their food to be delivered. Other Things to NoteWe only let for full weeks in August and the changeover day is Saturday - check out 11.00am - check in 4.00pm. At other times we are able to arrange shorter stays and a reduced price for off season visits.
