The SpaceSpare room in Kentish cottage (built 1733): open fires, beams, etc. Not suitable for people with mobility problems. The room has double bed, is carpeted, has central heating and a walk-in wardrobe. Shared bathroom next to room; also a wetroom downstairs. We have a piano and a big garden, with a drive you can park on. Towels and a hairdryer are provided. Please note both the pillows and duvet are filled with feathers. Breakfast is included: tea, coffee, fruit juice, and as much toast as you can eat - though I'll happily provide other things if you give me enough warning :-) We have a Jack Russel...she's very friendly, but this is not a good place for someone who doesn't like dogs! The house is on a street off the main road in a quiet village between Canterbury and Sandwich. At the back of the house there's a field full of rabbits, squirrels and birds. The house is about a mile away from Howletts wild animal park. Good bus service to Sandwich and Canterbury - every 20 minutes through the day (not so good in the evening or on Sundays!) The bus takes about 10 minutes to get from Canterbury to Littlebourne. Half hourly train service from Canterbury to London (St Pancras/Charing Cross or Victoria); the fastest take just under an hour. The coaches (to Victoria) (National Express) are usually much cheaper but take about two hours. Apart from being 4 miles from the world famous tourist destination of Canterbury, the village of Littlebourne is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and the sea is within half an hour to the north, east and south....oysters at Whitstable, glorious sandy beaches of Thanet, Turner at Margate, Dickens at Broadstairs, birdwatching on the sand dunes at Sandwich, a pier and two Tudor castles at Deal, the White Cliffs and Castle at Dover (not to mention frequent ferries to France) - and there's Britain's only official desert at Dungeness, about an hour south west of Canterbury. Guest AccessAll rooms downstairs and both bathrooms, but only their own bedroom! Guests are welcome to relax in the garden, too. Interaction with GuestsUsually quite a lot! I am usually at home whenever the guests are in. I usually make breakfast for guests, but if they don't want my company, they only have to say :-) The NeighborhoodIt's quiet and rural. Canterbury is a very busy little town and I love it, but it is nice to get back to the peace and quiet of my garden. I think the most important things to see here are Canterbury, and the coast: Dover, Whitstable, Broadstairs, Sandwich - depending on your tastes and amount of time available. Getting AroundBuses to Canterbury run every 20 minutes throughout the day (Monday - Saturday) - but much less frequently in the evenings and on Sundays. Guests can park on my drive, but as it's a little tricky to reverse into, most park in the layby just round the corner from my house (50 metres). Other Things to NoteMy dog loves people, but hates all other animals, so very sadly, I cannot accommodate anyone else's pets.

The SpaceWith my carpentry skills I have created a space that has a strong theme based around reclaimed wood. It has a cosy living space with custom built stairs leading to a converted loft space. The bed space has cosy and unique feel to it, having designed and built the bed myself. The kitchen is small but has everything you should require for your stay. Guest AccessGuests will have full and private access to the entire flat and the private parking space. There is also wireless internet available in the flat for those who require it. Interaction with GuestsPlease contact me to discuss anything about the flat, or if you require any further information regarding the surrounding area and local amenities. The NeighborhoodAs well as great local connections, the is an extensive variety of places to eat locally in Canterbury. If you would like to eat in, or simply buy some supplies, there is also huge supermarket about a 3 minute walk away. At the end of my road there is a recently converted pub that is now a very reasonably priced breakfast/brunch cafe. If you fancy an alternative stroll into the city centre, you can join the 'Great Stour Way' (4 min walk away) which is a newly intoduced walk/cycle route following the Stour River. Opened in 2011 for Canterbury as a gateway to the Stour Valley and to the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I mention this as elderly people or those that have difficulty with stairs may find it a little steep. GROUND FLOOR Entry hall Cloakroom with WC and sink, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. Kitchen and dining area is fully equipped with plates, glasses etc, dishwasher and all the usual appliances. Baby highchair can be provided. We supply the basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, fruit so you have these on arrival. Living room Double sofa, two chairs. Large TV, HD freeview, lots of books and games. The following are just some of the attractions which are all within an easy 5 minute walk from the cottage: Canterbury Cathedral Beaney Art Museum and Library The Heritage Museum (also home of Bagpuss and Rupert the Bear for kids) The Marlowe Theatre Punting Tours - our favourite, very relaxing and interesting way to see the city And look at these websites for day trips from Canterbury: Visit Kent Kent Attractions There is parking for a car outside the cottage. The high speed rail train from London St Pancras takes 52 minutes and comes into Canterbury West Station (look at the Southeasternrailway website for train times etc which is a 10min walk away. The SpaceVery close to the city centre, the cathedral and easy access to walking/cycling. Guest AccessYou will have your private double room with large double bed and wardrobe, and are of course welcome to use our bathroom with bath and shower, and share our living room and kitchen space if you desire. Sometimes we go away or are working weekends, so if you prefer this then please get in touch to discuss which dates would be suitable. If we are around though we are happy to leave you to your own devices or to show you around, eat dinner together.... whatever you want. Just let us know :) The NeighborhoodCanterbury is a beautiful city, there are many shops, restaurants, bars, museums etc. The cathedral is well worth a visit and just a few minutes walk from the apartment. There are fast train links to London and the coast, the main bus station is very close and there are lovely cycle/walking routes Getting AroundParking is in a private carpark, we can provide a permit for one car for £5 per day or £20 per week, payable on arrival. There is very limited free parking in the area if you prefer to chance it :) It is easy to walk to the city from the apartment. The main bus station is about 10 minutes walk where you can catch buses to all local areas, nearby villages and the coastal areas of thanet, whitstable and herne bay. Train station is about 20 minutes walk where high speed trains to london go from. Other Things to NoteI am a teacher so during the week I cannot accomodate arrivals before around 5pm. If you arrive after 5pm I will usually be able to pick you up from the station and bring you back here. However if you arrive earlier it is a 2 minute walk into town from the station where you can wander round the shops, get something to eat or drink etc until I am back from work and can give you your key. At weekends I have no such restrictions! Departure time is listed as midday, this is to ensure that I have time to prepare the space for the next guests, however if I can be flexible then I will be and have no problem with you leaving bags to collect later on.

The SpaceWe want this self contained space to be comfortable for you so we are limiting it to two people, although we could easily accommodate a baby if you bring a cot with you. We can also set up a small futon in the room for a young child. This is a summer time let but there is central heating and a wood burning stove available for any unusually cold spells. You have your own entrance into a large sitting room and dining area, with desk, wifi and television with Sky HD. There is a connecting door which is kept locked on our side, except when we come and replenish breakfast provisions and collect and return dishes from washing up Upstairs in this charming converted Coach House is a large double bedroom with an en suite shower room. A a high beamed ceiling adds character, even a view of the cathedral! There is an outside courtyard and garden with a covered small pond. There is also a table tennis table which you are free to set up and use. There is ample on-road parking outside of the house. (Use of wood burning stove, garden with protected pond, and table tennis table must be at your own risk and need extra care if you bring a small child.) Guest AccessIn the dining area, there is a fridge, microwave oven, kettle, muesli, fruit juices, fresh milk, teas and coffees provided along with a wide variety of breakfast choices including yogurts, preserves, cheese, ham, rolls, croissants topped up every day. We will provide fresh tableware each day as there is no kitchen sink. The garden around the house and courtyard has shared access between guests and ourselves. Interaction with GuestsChris and myself live in a separate but attached part of the house and will be there to greet you. We will respect your privacy but are available to give you as much information as we can and answer any queries that you may have. The NeighborhoodIf you want a taste of a beautiful and charming Kentish village that sits on a hill above Canterbury; walks through apple orchards; a city full of history, culture, markets, universities, shops, labyrinths and a beautiful cathedral; a short drive and ferry crossing to France; an hour on the fast train into London; this is a place for you. Getting AroundWe are situated a 15 minute walk from the centre of Canterbury and from Canterbury West, the railway station with a fast train to London, 1 hour. There are buses once an hour into town, on road parking is outside the house and there are day trip coaches available in Canterbury to a variety of castles, gardens and places of interest. There are good cycle paths into town and along the coast. We are only a 20 minute drive from Whitstable, a seaside town that has kept its character and small shops with lots going on. Other Things to NoteWe are happy to learn from our guests so that we can offer a good service so let us know of any improvements we can make. It is not child friendly accommodation because the stairs have no guard and there is a pond in the garden, albeit covered, but we are happy to have babies without extra charge. If toddlers or older children come, there is space for a futon in the bedroom but responsibility for their safety must lie with the parents. We can accept no responsibility for accidents. We have lived in this house and village for 40 years and never tire of exploring the wider area and things going on locally.

The SpaceThis listing is for our single room. We also have a further single room, a double room and (occasionally) a king size room. Beds are very comfortable! We have separate listings for the other rooms. Although we're flexible about exact length, we are not looking for bookings much longer than 2 weeks. We are in Wincheap which has it's own independent high street but is a short walk to the city walls and central Canterbury with all its beauty, history and culture. You are also walking/cycling/short drive from the Kent countryside. The rest of East Kent is easily accessible. We are also 30 minutes from Dover and Ashford International railway station. You are welcome to use the kitchen and living/dining rooms. We have freesat & BBC iplayer etc on TV which you are welcome to watch. We provide help yourself breakfast. We are likely to be at home some of the time but please do feel at home! We're happy to chat about local amenities etc. if we are around. I've lived in a few places but have chosen to settle in Canterbury as it has a beautiful green historic centre, small enough that everywhere is within walking distance. It has the benefits of being a city with interesting independent shops and cafes and plenty of cultural opportunities. Yet we are just a short drive from the country and 20 minutes from the sea! For the energetic we have the wonderful crab and winkle traffic free cycle route from Canterbury to the sea at trendy Whitstable, famous for fine dining including local beer and oysters! Finally if the big city calls, then a day trip to London is easily feasible. We are within easy reach of both train stations and the bus station. We speak English, French and Arabic. In addition to the listed amenities we can provide hair dryer/iron & ironing board and hot water bottles - though the house is pretty cosy. There is also a free standing additional radiator in this room. Anything else you need or have forgotten - just ask! Please note that this bedroom is next to the bathroom. Most guests have not mentioned this as a problem but note one reviewer remarked on this, so I am letting you know. We will of course do our best to use the bathroom quietly! The SpaceOne pretty, small single bedroom. Single bed, towels, hanging space, shelves, a little desk and original victorian floor boards. There is usually a box of assorted useful items in there to borrow if you have forgotten things, a hair dryer, long mirror, and black out blinds. The house is 100yards from the high street, and is suprisingly quiet. It's a great position to walk into or around all of Canterbury (the city is tiny). I do not provide breakfast, but you are welcome to help yourself in the kitchen to tea or coffee. The bathroom is shared with just me and has a new bath and good shower. Parking is for residents only. However, the house is a maximum five minutes walk from Canterbury West Station. You can easily get a bus from down the road up to Kent Uni, or if you walk into town the bus station is probably 15 mins walk form the house. Sometimes I have parking permits available for overnight stays, but these are £5 each. The Marlowe theatre is excellent (2 min walk away) and the Curzon cinema is just around the corner (5 mins). I'm a 20 min walk from Canterbury Christ Church Uni, and probably 40 min walk from Kent uni. I usually rent to actors and musicians working at the theatre, and have been doing so for a long time, hence the large chunks of time which are already booked up. Please don't be under any illusions, the room is 6ft x 12ft - space for all necessary items, but you can't fit another person in there with you! I do my absolute best to have everything ready for your arrival - but I also work a lot, if there is a late change over then on the odd occasion the room might not be ready, but it will be done when I get back from work. I don't have check in/out times, come and go as you please. There is a cleaner once a week, but the house was built in 1860 and I am renovating it, so despite the cleaner I have to say that old houses can be dusty. It is my home not a hotel after all; it's cute and characterful, but Clardiges it is not. If you can't cope with cats this is not the house for you. The cats are cute but are tiny tearaways, and will stick their nose in your luggage and expect attention. And finally please do ask if you need something - even if i'm not there i'm reachable by my mobile, I am a psychologist by profession, but unfortunately not a mind reader (yet)! Guest AccessWIFI KITCHEN You're welcome to use the kitchen for breakfast/dinner: tea and coffee by the kettle, cereal in the cupboards, and bread in the freezer. BATHROOM The bathroom is shared, new, and contains a bath and a hot shower. Again, use as you wish. GARDEN and REST OF HOUSE A work in progress.... i'm renovating! Interaction with GuestsMostly people stay who are working in Canterbury and we are all busy, but if i'm around i'm usually up for a pint or offer you some wine! The NeighborhoodCanterbury is your typical Tory enclave of Middle England. It's an historic world heritage site, and I live within the city walls. My street is a mixture of students and families, i'd say people have a typical level of British reserve here. There is a lovely French cafe at the end of my road which serves great pastries. There are some wonderful pubs (I love the Dolphin and the Parrot), and if you've money to burn for food The Goods Shed, Skinny Kitchen, and Kitsch are great eateries and close to the house. The theatre is excellent (2 min walk away) and the Curzon cinema is just around the corner (5 mins) but quite pricy. I'm a 20 min walk from Canterbury Christ Church Uni, and probably 40 min walk from Kent uni. Getting AroundTwo train stations (house close to Canterbury West station and about 15 mins from Canterbury East), bus station about 15 mins walk. Everything is in walking distance. PARKING - if you search for Canterbury Council Parking, you will come to their webpage with lots of suggestions for paid and free parking. I can't put a link on here as air bnb keep deleting it. Alternatively, if it's one or two nights I may be able to get you a resident permit (at £5 per night) please ask me.

The SpaceJust to clarify the bed is a John Lewis day bed. It is good quality and comfy, about the same height as a normal bed but it is a little narrower than a normal single. I & a range of other guests have slept on it with no problem but it may not suit everyone - please enquire if you have any concerns. There is basic storage in the form of hooks behind the door and one section of the wardrobe can be made available. You have your own sink. We do also have listings for another single room, a double room, and (occasionally) a king size room. A lot of additional information is available on those listings. This room is only available on a short term basis, no more than a week, as an individual booking. I should also note that there is also a boiler in a cupboard in this room. It makes a little noise when it is on. The shower pump is also located in this room and makes a noise when the shower is in use. Other guests have been fine with this but if you think this might disturb you then this may not be the best room for you!

The SpaceOur cottage's unique location within a city park in the heart of Canterbury offers the best of all worlds - a idyllic, peaceful setting but just minutes of the city centre, cathedral, restaurants and shopping. We have carefully remodeled the cottage to provide every modern convenience while preserving its historic character. With a well equipped kitchen, living and dining rooms, plus two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the cottage is especially well-suited to families or couples traveling together. Laundry facilities, your own private walled garden, and private parking further add to the cottage's appeal. --From the Gardener to the Chauffeur-- The first Gardener’s Cottage was built in Dane John in 1812 by John Simmonds (James Simmons in some records), a banker and city alderman who had obtained permission to improve the public land of Dane John Field as an “ornament to the city, conducive to the pleasure and health of all the inhabitants”. He did so at considerable personal expense, and for his trouble was rewarded by being summoned to court for non-payment of a small debt! He returned the land to the city in anger, whereupon it fell into disrepair until the city took over its upkeep in the second half of the century, building the current cottage for the head gardener in 1877. The cottage became the home of Kay Seymour in 1975. Kay, who had driven ambulances in WWII in heavily-bombed Portsmouth and had always loved driving, found herself bored and struggling to make ends meet in retirement, so when she saw a job advertised for a chauffeur to the Mayor of Canterbury, she applied for the job (fibbing slightly about her true age) and became the first woman civic chauffeur in England. She lived in the house until her death in 2006, when her daughters renovated the cottage as you find it today. Guest AccessFull use of the house and private walled garden, with off-street parking for one vehicle onsite. Interaction with GuestsWe greet you upon arrival, with a few welcoming amenities to ease the start of your stay. For longer stays, we provide interval cleaning at a mutually convenient time and day. The NeighborhoodDane John is Canterbury's city park. The cottage's front door opens right onto the park. Nearby, there is an historic mound for exploring, and children will enjoy playing in several playground areas within the park. Getting AroundThe cottage is an easy 5 minute walk to the Canterbury East rail station, with frequent trains to London. The main city bus station is on the opposite end of the park from the cottage, with frequent service to surrounding towns. For those guests here to visit University of Kent students, note that the "Uni" double-decker bus leaves frequently from this location. Other Things to NoteAs many guests have commented, our kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped for those who like to cook. The private walled cottage garden is a lovely space to enjoy in warmer weather. You may park your car off-street, right by the front door of the cottage. (Parking is a very valuable amenity within Canterbury's city walls!)

Our flat is on the second floor and there is no lift. Parking in Canterbury is like gold dust, and can be similarly priced! but If you let me know which direction you are coming from I can recommend some lesser known cheap car parks or suggest locations for free on street parking that are a few minutes walk away.

The SpaceThis self contained studio-room is ideal for one person or a couple. The room is ensuite ( there is a shower and a toilet inside) so you can enjoy complete privacy. And there is also a small kitchen area composed of a compact mini-kitchen with Sink, Mini Fridge/Freezer, storage Unit and Electric Ceramic Hob. Well, it is not the Hilton :) but if you want somewhere to stay in absolute privacy without having to share a flat with someone else, and close to wonderful Canterbury Cathedral, this will do just great! The studio-room is comfortable, has everything you need, including wireless Internet, small fridge and private car parking. In order to avoid false expectations, I would like to invite you to look carefully at the pictures and make sure that you are happy with the size of the studio-room. To conclude here are some of the words of previous guests who in my view describe well this listing: ' Very nice little studio with basic cooking facilities and private bathroom. Great for a short stay'. 'Good place but be aware that this is more of a traveller's rest than a romantic retreat'. Guest AccessThere is a communal door that when opened leads to a communal hall where there are two doors the one to the left is the entrance to the independent room-studio and on the right there is a door that leads to the flat where landlord (Sakis) lives with his (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). The studio-room and the neighbouring flat are completely independent and have their own locks on the respective doors. Interaction with GuestsDepending on the day and your arrival time, me or my (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) will meet you and give you the keys to your self contained studio-room. There is also the option to leave they keys on a lockbox for you to collect if you arrive late or if your arrival time is inconvenient for me to be there because of work. Your studio-room as it is depicted in the pictures, is independent with a different entrance and a lock in the door and the interaction with the host is minimum, meaning that you will probably only will meet with myself or my (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) when we give you the keys. The NeighborhoodJust behind the flat there is a nice walking pathway ('great stour way'). It is a three mile surfaced shared use path between Canterbury and Chartham running alongside the river. The path is part of the National Cycle Network, route 18, and for people from Canterbury it’s a gateway to the Stour Valley and to the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Getting AroundIf you need parking please let me know and I will provide you with a parking permit for visitors.
