The SpaceComprising 4,000 Sq Ft of interior space. The property is in a unique position, almost its own hamlet as the buildings are scattered across its gardens boasting courgettes, lettuce, potatoes, apples and pears, with an in ground trampoline, treehouse, conservatory with its own wood burning stove. A writing/painting studio also with its own wood burning stove and French doors opening out onto the river (replete with crayfish, use our nets to catch.) There is a plethora of wildlife to be enjoyed ( ducklings nesting along our garden wall in the next few weeks.) There are no other properties over-looking, no flight paths and no main roads - this really is a sylvan idyll, having travelled far and wide, I have yet to find anywhere that comes close this throne in paradise! There is a large studio in the grounds where a part-time caretaker lives and sorts wood for the fires and makes sure things are running smoothly. You won't see her much but she can be available if help is needed. Guest AccessA private road which opens into a large driveway for yours and your guests cars. Interaction with GuestsVia email or phone or with above caretaker for keys and questions. The NeighborhoodThis 16th Century property is reminiscent of an "ye olde worlde" English charm. The whole hamlet is built in the same stone with a river running through the middle and the only noise is the odd tractor trundling through with bales of hay. It's a perfect escape for adults or an adventure holiday for children. We have also had novelists, biographers and painters complete books and fill galleries from productive uninterrupted stints spent at Brook Cottage. Getting AroundThe Village of West Kington is about 20 mins drive from the beautiful City of Bath, 3 miles from the M4 (making the journey from London 1 hr 40 mins) with Chippenham Train Station a 20 min drive and the train journey to London from there is 1 hr 15 minutes. Other Things to NoteThe room configuration needs a little explanation as may not work for all - I have not had any complaints yet but I definitely prefer to tell people. There are two sides to the house with separate staircases. Two of the bedrooms on one side have their own bathroom each - Master Bedroom is en suite and the other bedroom with the single beds has it's own bathroom adjacent. The other two bedrooms are on the other side of the house and the 2nd bedroom is reached via the first bedroom with the bathroom just before the entrance to the first. In the 2nd, furthest bedroom are two double beds and in the 1st main bedroom is one double. The walls are thick and each room as its own door but the bathroom and exit access obviously does involve passing through the main bedroom. Works really well for families. It is also worth noting there is a river so small children must be monitored by adults at all times and if you build open fires, this is, of course, your responsibility too. We can take no responsibility for accidents on trampolines! But everything is there to be enjoyed responsibly.

The SpaceSomerford House is a 400 year old Cotswold country farmhouse situated in the midst of a 5 acre holding in the centre of Little Somerford village, 3 miles south of ancient Malmesbury. The house has a beautiful garden, paddocks and ponds. We also have a cottage which is ancillary to the main house. Ample parking and stabling if required. We provide a full English breakfast. We have available a twin room and a double room with large shared main bathroom (incl. both bath and shower). Breakfast is served in our large comfortable country style kitchen. Just around the corner (less than a 5 minute walk) is our fabulous village pub (the Somerford Arms) that serves great food and buzzes every night – it is wise to book up in advance regardless which night you are with us and we would be happy to do that for you if you let us know. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to enjoy the garden and wander around the grounds. We normally have horses in the stables or in the paddocks. You are very welcome to say hello to them, but we regret they are not available to ride. In springtime there are often ducks nesting on at least one of the ponds and sometimes moorhens. In summer we usually have traditional English croquet set up on the front lawn and we'd be happy to show you how to play if this is an experience you would like to try! The NeighborhoodSet in the beautiful countryside of the North Wiltshire / Gloucestershire border, Somerford House is within easy reach of Avebury, Badminton, Bath, Cirencester, Lacock, Westonbirt Arboretum and of course the Cotswolds. Whether it is pre-historic, Roman or medieval Britain; or more recent but wonderfully historic National Trust houses and gardens that most interest you, we are in the middle of a wide selection of all of them, and if you want to stay more than one night, daily trips in different directions will give you a wealth of visiting opportunities! For sports followers we are also conveniently close to Badminton and Princess Anne's Gatcombe for the horse trials; Cirencester and Beaufort for the polo; Castle Combe for motor racing; and of course Bath for the rugby.
